Dark secrets revealed in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”

In “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) gains possession of a book of potions that once belonged to the mysterious Half-Blood Prince. The book’s multitude of personal notations give him an edge in class experiments, but it also reaches much deeper and darker.

In addition to the continued mystery and adventure that marks Voldemort’s deeply laid plot to bring destruction to Harry’s world, the Harry, Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) also experience a heightened sense of teenage longing and emotion. Harry finds himself increasingly drawn to Ginny (Bonnie Wright), just as Hermione must come to grips with her feelings for Ron as Ron gains a girlfriend in the form of Gryffindor student Lavender Brown (Jessie Cave).

“The last film, `Order of the Phoenix,’ was a very intense sort of internal tale,” remarks producer David Heyman. “It was a boy struggling with the attractions and pulls of good and evil. `Half-Blood Prince’ has a much warmer glow to it. There's more romance; there's more comedy. It began in the fourth film, but it is really pushed to another level in this sixth film—this idea of people being pulled together and apart through interest in the opposite sex. At the same time, there is a sense that Hogwarts isn't the safe place it once was, as Harry suspects that danger lies within the castle. As well as that, you have the building of the relationship between Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) and Harry. They spend the most time together and Dumbledore's preparing Harry to assume the mantel.”

As Harry grows increasingly confident and strong as a wizard, Dumbledore finds he must rely more and more on the young wizard to join him in fighting the encroaching evil brought by Voldemort and the Death Eaters. “I think we really focus on the intimacy [that develops between Harry and Dumbledore] and Dumbledore preparing Harry for the ultimate confrontation between Voldemort and Harry,” Heyman describes, adding that the next films—based on the seventh book in the series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”—contain what he calls a “spectacle of action.” “The seventh book has non-stop events. This is more personal and it’s got some great action, great thrills, but it’s a really human tale.”

Director David Yates jokingly describes “Half-Blood Prince” as romance, potions and rock 'n' roll. “There are all these wonderful things in our story,” he says, an obvious tone of excitement in his voice. “There's a potion that gives you perfect luck. You take it and everything goes right for you. But it does heighten your senses somewhat and you get quite breezy with it. Then there's a love potion that makes you very tactile with everybody. So, it's got all those metaphorical values. There are some really lovely comic beats here, which we didn't really get a chance to do last time.”

Aubrey Miles wasted no time reminding everyone why she is one of FHM Philippines' certified icons.



The July 2009 issue of the popular men's magazine showed the sexy mother of two wearing nothing but hand-shaped mud to cover her breasts. FHM editor-in-chief Allan Madrilejos acknowledged that having Aubrey—now a three-time cover girl—back on the magazine's cover made this month's issue extra special, leading to the annual 100 Sexiest Women in the World event, which will be held on July 9 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.



"My first-ever magazine cover was with FHM, so that's my launching. My second is the 50th anniversary Gold issue nila. Now the third one is July, which is they have it together with the 100 Sexiest, so I feel kinda special. I'm not saying 'yong mga ordinary issues are not [special]. Pero what I'm saying is for me, parang I feel good na may mga special event pag nilalabas nila 'yong mga cover ko," Aubrey told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview at the Kamayan/Saisaki/Dad's restaurant in Greenhills in EDSA earlier today, July 1.



ONE HOT MAMA. Aubrey's whistle-bait figure as splashed on the magazine cover doesn't betray at all that she's already a mother. The comebacking sexy actress—who gave birth to son Hunter Cody Miller, courtesy of longtime boyfriend Troy Montero on October 3, 2008—has a lovechild with ex-flame JP Obligacion.



"This is actually my way din to show to all the moms there that if I can do it, you can [also] do it. And also na you get better after all the challenges, after lahat ng napagdaanan mo inside and out, and then kapag maganda 'yong na-develop mo inside is lumalabas outside. Like 'yong determination ko to lose weight, ito 'yong result in eight months after giving birth. Parang kung kaya mo, kaya ko, kaya nila."



Aubrey's frame of mind has also developed considerably.



"You know what, it's really different, e, you get more parang open- minded and then you started being considerate sa ibang tao. Babies keep you grounded, it keeps you humble. Naging matured ka but still you're learning, still learning, learning process, e. Ngayon, I'm happier," she said.



Troy, according to Aubrey, is a hands-on dad: "Kung meron lang award na Daddy of Everyday, bibigyan ko siya. Kasi he knows how to change diapers, make milk kahit hindi pa siya nagkaka-baby, ngayon lang. Ready siya and he's very patient sa baby."



The arrival of Hunter likewise strengthened the bond between Aubrey and Troy. "Mas deeper ang relationship namin and we support each other more. No competition between us, walang jealousy. So ano lang kami talaga, parang puzzle kami, parang ganun, we matched."



Aubrey announced that she will have a special production number at the FHM Sexiest Women in the World event next week.
