By Bernie Franco September 03, 2008 9:49 AM "May mga offers naman pero, right now, hindi muna," actor Joem Bascon revealed to ABS-CBN.COM when asked about his take on doing gay roles on screen. "Okay naman ako, pero hindi pa ako ganun kalalim for that kind of portrayal. Di pa ganun kalalim ang experience ko sa show biz and acting." Joem added that he finds portraying off-beat characters very exciting and would definitely help him fulfill his dream of being a full-pledged actor. But at the same time, he also believes that one must be convincing in his portrayals. “Baka 'pag ginawa ko, ang babaw pala. So hindi siya ganun kagandang tingnan," he explained. After spending two years in show business, Joem is definitely showing promise of becoming a serious actor. His role in indie film Batanes, won him a Golden Screen Award for breakthrough performance by an actor. Joem confessed that he made a big leap when he accepted the role in Batanes. "I took the risk of grabbing a mature role," he began. "With Batanes, yung transition ko mabilis, from teenybopper to mature." The 22-year-old actor is now taking on another role in a socially relevant indie movie tentatively titled Kalayaan. The film is about Filipino soldiers guarding the SpratlysIsland. Joem is also busy with two TV projects – ABS-CBN’s I Love Betty La Fea and a showbiz oriented talk show on TV 5.The young man was very enthusiastic in describing his role on I Love Betty La Fea though for he will be transforming into Mark, Ecomoda Manila’s resident playboy. "Ako dito yung malokong vice president ng kumpanya. Ako 'yung best friend ni Armando (played by John Lloyd Cruz). Even before pa siya mag-work sa Ecomoda, best friends na talaga kami ni Armando," Joem concluded. |
Carlo Guevara on Yeng Constantino: ‘Nahulog yung loob ko sa kanya’
By Manila P. Santos September 03, 2008 9:21 AM During the presscon for the Your Song episode featuring Aiko Melendez and John Prats, cast member and Be Bench winner Carlo Guevara admitted that he and singer Yeng Constantino got to know each other more during an Asian cruise with other Star Magic artists last August. “Nung simula, nagkakahiyaan pa kami. Pero nakasama ko na siya sa show dati. Pareho pa kami ng handler pero nagkakahiyaan pa kami,” he recalls. The 19-year old shares with the press that he did develop special feelings for the singer. “Mabait po si Yeng. Parang nahulog yung loob ko sa kanya. Hindi ko akalain na ganun siya kabait. Talagang masaya kasama. Enjoy ako ‘pag kasama siya,” he adds.Although there were rumors circulating that they were already holding hands after the five-day cruise which took them to three different Asian countries, the model-actor says it’s too early to declare anything official. “Hindi ko pa naman siya nililigawan. Hindi po kami,” he shyly says. “Nagkakulitan-kulitan kami dun. Kasi matagal din kaming magkasama dun sa barko. Minsan pag nagdi-dinner kami grupo, minsan magkatabi kami, nagkakakuwento-kuwento. Tapos tinutukso na kaming dalawa,” he explains. Carlo says that he exchanged numbers with Yeng after their trip and even invited her to his birthday dinner last September 2, along with his close friends and fellow models like Ron Morales, John James Uy, and Regine Angeles. The “Salamat” singer appreciated the gesture, thanked him and immediately confirmed her attendance. So what attracted him to Yeng the most? “Her simplicity. Cool lang siya. ‘Pag tinutukso kami, tumatawa lang ako at natatawa lang rin siya,” he adds. Currently part of the cast of Dyosa and Your Song Presents: Somebody Like You, Carlo is happy to be living out his dream. “Talagang masayang-masaya ako ngayon. Kasi dati ang pangarap ko lang, magkaroon ako ng solo billboard at saka maging model ng Bench. Pero ngayon mas higit pa yung narating ko, nadagdagan pa ng mga show,” he happily admits. |

‘I Love Betty La Fea’ wins audiences over in sneak preview
by Rachelle Siazon If Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz used to move you to tears in their previous soaps, they are now set to make you laugh out loud in I Love Betty La Fea. During a sneak preview of the series, audiences burst into laughter over the antics of Bea’s quirky Beatriz Pengson who doesn’t have an ounce of insecurity in her body. Her unusual looks have often put her in difficult situations, but her family’s unconditional love has helped her overcome whatever hardships come her way.Audiences should look forward to Betty’s scenes with her best friend Nicholas (played by Vhong Navarro) since their similar looks, fashion sense, and nose for trouble make for a lot of hilarious moments. If Betty makes a fool of herself in front of new Eco Moda president Armando Solis during her job application, Nicholas in turn gets dumped by his date whom he tricked with his fake online profile. On the other hand, John Lloyd will surprise you as the philandering Armando who must hide his escapades from his over-possessive girlfriend Marcella (played by Megan Young). But Armando’s main problem is the scheming Daniella (Ruffa Guitierrez) who’s vying for his position. Ruffa’s mean girl act will most likely get audiences laughing at her attempts to snatch the president’s position away from Armando. As for John Lloyd and Bea’s TV reunion, their avid fans will undoubtedly be ecstatic to know that their onscreen chemistry is stronger than ever. Although Armando despises her in the beginning, Betty’s daydream moments will surely make hearts go aflutter. And in spite of Armando’s penchant for beautiful girls, it seems that he still has a soft spot for anyone who is down. Find out how Betty finally gets to work with the man of her dreams as I Love Betty La Fea premieres on Monday, September 8, right after Iisa Pa Lamang. |
