i got to watch the last 20 mins in qtv 11 last night (i was at home with flu :() let's just say that curiosity got the better of me so i checked it out. the first time i heard ling's dubber's voice, i was like, "aackk!!!" i was so itching to just press the mute button but i didn't. i figured it'd be more fun watching while criticizing hehehe.. and i might get used to the voice after a while. ok, that didn't happen. i hate it!! i also didn't like that they dubbed the dialogues in a "taglish" way. it sounded corny.

not much commercial breaks, i noticed but so many cuts!!! and those were necessary scenes too! grrrrr!! not seeing the ping ping scene (ok i know it's not that necessary but still..) and witnessing the shortening of the cutter scene were major disappointments!

the only positive thing i can say is that they actually used real music from the series, no tagalized versions of songs. hallelujah!! they also used the real names. well, except for daye whose name was mispronounced. was it just me (it might be a temporary case of deafness on my part due to flu) or did they call da-ye as "day" (pronounced as the english word for "araw")?

anyway... yeah... the only consolation i got from watching the premiere episode in QTV is seeing ZZ looking his usual drop dead gorgeous self (esp. during that time! wai!)... the ensaymada... that neck 'neath that black shirt... the pa-cute wink & smile. http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/8.gif Nyaha!

it really pays to set one's expectations at the lowest before watching this version of MARS. Instead of annoying myself with the butchering done... i just go http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/105.gif and ogle at ZZ's handsome feats. hehe. hard as it may seem, i also try watching it from one-who-havent-seen-and-went-bangag-over-it point of view... pero hinde eh.. kulang talaga. i was looking forward to the Ping Ping scene... wala sya. :(

and yeah.. just to echo these zaichotic biatches here... the cuts somewhat impedes the audience to get a deeper understanding and appreciation of the story. saka yung impact nung ibang scene nabawasan dahil na-cut -- THE KICK A$$ OPENING SCENE on which Ling steps into that garage in silhoutte.. the sound of the motorcycle as it revvs up!

on that scene where Da Ye's washing his face -- they sound like they're in an Echo Chamber or something. baket?! eh open-air naman yun? Nyaha! kakatawa.

what i noticed is that, masyado nilang pinabait yung dialogues at yung takbo ng storya -- ergo, na-cut yung mga "sensitive"scenes. but those scenes and dialogues are what makes MARS the gem that it is.

Oh well... seems we cant do anything about it now. I'll still watch it though... whenever i get the chance. :) naa-amaze ako sa bilis ng story... eh ang ikli na nga ng MARS compared sa ibang Tw series di ba?! ano yan.. pang 2 linggo lang?! http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/21.gif

Got to watch the second episode of Mars...The cuts are somewhat forgiveable this time. Only a few cuts but quite lengthy ones. So, here they are:

1. The scene were Ling was sprawled on the carpet is longer. Ling's face is focused more and he slowly reaches out for Qi Luo's sketch and gazes at it.

2. The part where Ling disturbs Qi Luo in her Art class. That scene actually opens with Ling entering the class and calls Qi Luo's name. He even prolongs Qi Luo's name by saying, "Han Qi Luoooooooooooooo!". He catches the attention of the teacher. Ling then smiles at the teacher and flirts with her, calling her "Little sweetie teacher." The teacher beside Qi Luo frowns and asks Qi Luo how she come to know such a bad boy. She says to Qi Luo, "Listen to your teacher. Stay away from that boy."

3. The part where Ling and Qi Luo talk in the art studio's storage area. The scene shows them entering said room and Ling commented, "So many stuff."

4. The scene where Ling modeled for Qi Luo. I'm reproducing the translations of Laiou 2002 of www.vicpower.net (http://www.vicpower.net/). The one she made during the first run of Mars in Taiwan. You can see the scenes and lines that were deleted:

Qiluo walked back to the art studio first. She looked around to make sure nobody was there.
"You can come in." Qiluo turned sideway to say to Ling.
Ling walked slowly into the art studio.

"So sneaky. I'm not used to it." Ling said and then walked up next to Qiluo.

The two of them walked in the studio and then Qiluo pointed to a spot and told Ling, "This is fine." Ling stopped walking.

"Do I need to take off clothes?" Ling asked Qiluo as he removed his book bag from his shoulder.

"Wo." Ling said.

"You can just sit here." Qiluo said after carrying over a chair, putting it down and positioning it at the spot she'd pointed earlier.

"How do I sit?" Ling asked Qiluo.

"However you like." Qiluo said.

Ling placed his jacket on back of chair and his book bag on the floor, and rolled up his sleeves and then sat down.

"When I said I would lend you my body, I never thought you would waste such a heavenly thing and use it for painting. My original intention was that the two of us went to do something very happy and would make you feel very comfortable." Ling said. (Which Ling says in a flirtations voice, waaaaaaaa! i would not use your body to model for me, promise!!)

the scene in this night's episode started with this one:

"Wei, Ive heard you hate men. Is that true? Why don't you like men? Is it that you like girls?" Ling asked.

I'm getting used to Ling's voice. It's ok for me. It's faaaarrrrrrr better off than Lu Ying Feng's dubber in Love Storm. (The kanto boy voice.)

I love Tongdao's voice! Accdg to Recluzze, while we were sms-ing while watching, it has an anime quality about it. The voice is apt for the character.

Hey Recluzze, they still used your son's song! Thank goodness! Would you believe I was smiling while they were playing that creepy tune. :D Sakura was watching with me and she was calling Tongdao, "Creepy Gay Guy". lmao! (reminiscent of the "creepy thin man" in Charlie's Angels)

Oh and BTW, Recluzze was fuming mad when they pronounced Tongdao's name as Ton-taw! :rolleyes:

In her opinion, the difference between MG and Mars is this; MG will tickle your senses but with Mars you will fall in love.


I fell in love with Mars. A lot of people did. I remember having this silly smile on my face after watching an episode. Watching this again on QTV brings back wonderful memories.

That's why one can't blame me if my heart breaks a little with the cuts those editors did. The series was the work of Director Cai, Zai Zai, DaS and the rest of the team behind Mars. To see one's creative work marred. It's a sin. If I were the director of Mars, I'd cry foul on those cuts.


There’s one foreign director who, while filming his series stated that he would prefer having only hundreds of persons viewing his series for they need to see it, rather than having thousands of peeps watching the series because they just happen to like it. Yet, the response was great. His series became popular. Hopefully it is the same with Mars. How I would love for this station to affect the lives of these people (youngsters in particular) who are still disturb by their ghosts from the past, when they watch Mars. That by airing Mars, the station will let them realize thru each episodes that even after their tragic moments in life, they could still uphold themselves & have all the rights & courage to love and be loved. That these physically and emotionally scarred individuals could even have the most beautiful human being anyone could hope for or be a great person to a “normal” one…

Guys, esp. non-Zai & Barbie fans, do yourself a favor by watching Mars! Even if it is just to placate your curiosity based on what you read and heard, we can assure you that it is really worth the time and effort.

I agree! I remember when Mars was just acquired by GMA, ganito rin ang broadcast nila noon, that they will bring ZZ and DaS here to promote the series.

Anyway, I made some effort to promote the series among colleagues at the office and they liked the series! I assure them that the best is yet to come! :D

well,reading all of the comments made by those who watched the series means
that Mars is definitely a good show.kasi yung mga comments nman were just trying to let the management realize that marami silang pagkukulang, pero meron din nmang pasado na.kahit makulitan kayong lahat sa akin basta sasabihin ko!!!!!
1) the Dubbing.....as in bakit ganon nag e-echo ang mga boses nila???Ano bang ginamit nung dubbers..megaphone?????
2) Deleted Scenes....kahit nman siguro mahaba ang naging conversation nung mentor/friend ni Ling dun sa hospital eh importante pa rin character niya sa Mars. Yung motorbike na binigay kay Ling,dramatic entrance kaya un sa eksena..( siguro kasi in a way libre yung plugging/advertisement ng YAMAHA kaya hindi na isinama ). Yung part na nakatulog si Qi Luo sa sofa na naka on pa ang tv hindi pinakita yung scene (medyo suspense) na me pumasok sa pintuan ng bahay nila tapos bigla na lang siyang nagising yun pala panaginip niya lang.then
she cried....eh dito nga maku curious yung mga viewers bakit ganon yung character ni Barbie.pati nga ending credits hindi rin pinatawad...Ano ba yan??
3) maganda sana kung boses pa rin ni Hua Ze Lei yung ginamit para me continuation yung identity ng boses diba..nasa diskarte ng dubber na yon kung paano niya gagawin astig ang boses ng lalamya-lamyang character ni Lei
into Chen Ling.pati sana rin ke Barbie...( pansin ko kasi ung dubber ni Noreen ng Attic Cat ang ginamit sa kanya eh!!)
4)yung pronunciation ng name ni Da Ye..ito ang cute..hehehe...Kasi sabi ng friend ko ang D in mandarin is pronounced as T. so i apply natin kung Ta Ye.!!
hehehe!!!!ang baho ng dating at sa pandinig ng pangalan niya...kaya siguro ang pronunciation ng dubber as Taye..as in "Tey".

hay naku buti na lang yung mga songs from the Mars soundtrack ang ginamit kasi naman sa mga koreanovela ng GMA eh tinatagalog yung mga kanta!!!Ok nman yung iba...but yung iba baduy!!!!So far yung episode nung
Thursday lang ang naapreciate ko...kaya ung cds pa rin ng Mars ang pinapanood ko!!!but hindi pa rin nakakatuwa ang GMA kasi wala pa ring banner

i've only watched Mars on QTV for the 1st time last night. all i can say is:

oh my goodness! in the first part, how come i can see QiLuo's mouth moving but no sound was heard? even the dubbing sounds sh!tty. it sounds like QingMei's dubbing was done in another studio and was inserted every time she speaks. and what's with DA YIIII? DA YE's pretty easy for Filipinos to pronounce but DA YI? come on. grrr.

but in fairness, i think the dubber for Ling's good. so far..

i don't know if they cut scenes in that particular episode. i'll have to ask mcbeal. :D but i was kinda disappointed with the flow of the conversations. i hope they stick with the storyline.

haaay. it's sad having to wait for Mars to be aired on Philippine TV for months, and when it's finally here, they ruin it. :(

By the way, in tonight's episode, the only noticeable cuts I saw was thew toning down of the violent scene. In the original television version, Ling was scene throwing the guy over his head. And also, Ling actually wound the thick rope around Abin's neck and pulling it. They cut these from tonight's episode.

I also remember another scene they cut from ep one. The part where Qi Luo was sleeping on a sofa and she suddenly had a nightmare about a man entering a door, dressed in a shirt and a tie. As to who is this man, that's the mystery. :D

I remember when the zaichos and i watched that scene, we were all shrieking and giggling! We were talking what we would do if we were in Qi Luo's place: one would take a peek at Chen Ling in that open shower, another would hand the towel but volunteer to do the drying off, then another would refuse to move and take up Ling's offer to get the towel himself..(who wouldn't want to see Ling in the buff), one would whip the towel off once he comes out of the towel, as for me, I remember suggesting wiping Chen Ling with my bare hands! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

today's episode and tomorrow's episode is episode 9 in the television version of Mars. I got to watch tonight's episode and as expected, extensive parts of some scene were edited out.

in the flashback scene, where the young Ling almost killed the bully, that was shortened. perhaps, it may have been considered quite violent.

the scene where Qi Luo kissed Ling, that scene was way longer.

Lol, zaichos, as expected, the "charming hipline" scene was edited. To those who watched the scene for the first time on QTV, that scene was longer. When Qi Luo and Ling started kissing, the kiss became more intense. As they kissed, Ling moved Qi Luo's body until they were lying on the carpet and started making out. Both of them were passionately kissing each other. Unfortunately, as this was happening, Qi Luo remembered the traumatic experience she had which she will confess to Ling in tomorrow's episode.

The "attempted rape" scene was also edited. Lest viewers had misconceptions, Ling was actually testing Qi Luo. He wanted to know why she flinches whenever they start getting passionate. So Ling pretends to force himself on Qi Luo and when Qi Luo freaks out, Ling's suspicion is confirmed that Qi Luo was abused.

the editing of the scenes somehow affects the impact of the scene itself.

oh well. so what else is new.

i don't get it. they usually have recaps of the previous episode, so why do they have to cut scenes all the time? kung may time cla for recaps, dapat di cla nagcu-cut. what a waste. mars is not just an ordinary taiwanese drama, it has substance. dahil sa ginagawa nila, they're taking away important parts of the story.

i really like this series.. vic zhou really is great here.. really like his character.. you wouldn't know what would happen next.. :) i also like barbie xu but i like her better in meteor garden, the strong and independent girl.. but her acting here is great. :)

Hi Sieghart! About dun sa question mo, originally Mars was an adaptation of the Japanese Manga by Fuyumi Souryo and guess what?! it's one of Japan's most popular comic manga ever. Originally Rei Kashino is Chen Ling and Qi Luo is Kira Aso. Actually Meteor Garden is also an adaptation of a Japanese manga also(Hana Yori Dango) na pinalabas sa Channel 2 kaya lang 10am. May mga revisions din sa series, pero the thing is ANG GWAPO TALAGA NI CHEN LING and He is the man of my dreams...jia you Zai zai.....

i have no idea how the last ep started (and ended since i heard that some parts were cut) in qtv but here's a part of the transcript of the last ep.

Episode 13 - Translated by Amy of Faithful4ever

Ling and his dad are at a park.

“How is it? Does your wound still hurt?” asked Ling’s father.

“I’ve been ok awhile ago,” said Ling.

They sit down on a bench.

“A few days ago, the doctor called me. He said that he forgot everything. He’s basically a recidivist. I’m really worried. They believe all words from such a dangerous psycho,” said Ling’s father.

“It looks like you have more gray hair. Is it because of me? If it is, sorry. For the past 10 years, probably no one said it to you before. Too bad I actually made the old man cry,” said Ling.

Qiluo was bought some water for them and comes back and sees the two bonding.

Ling is delivering his portrait by Qiluo to his father’s company.

“Excuse me, let me through. Excuse me. Sorry. Excuse me, excuse me. Sorry. Excuse me, excuse me. Thank you. Excuse me,” said Ling as he went up the stairs.

The painting is hanging in Ling’s father’s office.

“It’s very well done. Qiluo is really talented,” praised Ling’s father.

“I think it’s that the model is handsome so it can’t be helped,” said Ling.

“How is she doing at the research institute?”

“Ok, but she’s trampled by reports everyday she can hardly breathe,” said Ling.

“Concentrating on school is very important. So, when do plan to have kids?”

“Kids?”

“You guys have been married for almost a year. Hurry up and have a kid. Bring it to me, I’ll take care of it."

Ling laughs, “I think you should hurry up and marry Miss Fang Min. If she can’t have children then you guys can go adopt a kid. Raise him earlier so that he can become your successor earlier. Isn’t that great?”

“Having a boy isn’t bad. But a girl is more adorable. Or how about twins? Anything is fine, just make it quick.”

Ling laughs, “We aren’t dogs, it’s not that easy to make a baby. You really think we are dogs don’t you?”

Qiluo is drawing a picture of two people sitting on chair with their backs facing the viewer. Ling comes with a cup of coffee.

“Miss, I think we’ve met here before,” said Ling.

“Yeah. I think you said you were going to buy me some coffee 10 minutes ago,” said Qiluo.

Ling laughs. He sits down and hands the coffee to her, “Here.”

“Thanks.”

He looks at her drawing. “The feeling isn’t bad.”

“I want to create a small work of 10 pieces.”

“That’s great. What’s the theme?”

“Father and son,” said Qiluo with a smile.

“Your drawings…seems to have changed.”

“Really?”

“It’s different from when I first met you. It’s more in depth.”

“Of course, after going through so much.”

“True. Fortunately we didn’t lose to tragedy.”

Qiluo nods in agreement, “Fortunately.”

“Hey, how come I always think that I met Sheng when I almost lost my life last year? He was still like he was when he was in high school. Thinking back, I actually don’t understand Sheng at all. Though I was by his side, it was like I was look at a self-portrait,” said Ling.

“Ling…there’s something that I’ve been hesitant as to what I should do. But I think you need to know. I have something to give you. It’s in Sheng’s room,” said Qiluo.

Ling is reading Sheng’s letter.

“This idiot, only lived for 17 years and settled his life so early.”

He burns the letter.

“Wait for me there. I’ll be reporting to you sooner or later anyway. But I’ll probably be an old fellow by then. You might not be able to recognize who I am, ” said Ling.

“Strange, how come there’s no picture of a sudden?” said Qingmei, who is trying to get the TV to work in the restaurant. “Daye, Daye. Look, there’s no picture all of a sudden.”

“Why?”

“Is it the wrong line?”

“I remember you bought the VCR. Should have been you,” said Daye.

“Me? Wasn’t it you?”

“No, it wasn’t me.”

“It’s Ling’s first time to participate in the GP race. If we don’t record it he’ll kill us,” said Qingmei.

“Hey! There’s sound! There’s sound!”

“What about the picture?” asked Qingmei.

“How am I suppose to know?”

“Why do they always have to pick the times when we are busiest to race?”

“Owner,” said a customer.

“Hold on, coming right away,” said Daye. “You mess with it first,” he said to Qingmei and gives her the remote control.

“How am I suppose to record it when there’s no picture?”

“Owner, can you give me some water?” asked a customer.

“Sure, right away,” said Qingmei. She puts the remote control down.

Qiluo is running up the stairs.

“Ling!” She runs to a set of doors and opens them. “Ling.”

Ling is in his race suit talking with someone. They walk out.

“I was originally planning on getting first place,” said Ling.

“That confident? Then it looks like you won’t be nervous,” said Qiluo.

“That’s not what I mean. It’s just that standing here…I feel very happy. Life is great.”

He walks down the stairs.

“Ling.”

He turns around and looks up at her.

“Do you remember that we talked about the end of the world before? Do you still believe that the world will someday perish?”

“It is inevitable. It’s only a matter of time. But…we need to go on. Qiluo, you have to accompany me,” said Ling.

Qiluo walks down the steps and flies into Ling’s arms.

Tong Dao is at the sanatorium. Some crayons and a sheet of paper lie before him. He picks up a crayon but can’t seem to draw. The little girl with the red sweater walks up to him. She puts her hands on top of his and helps him draw.

Doctor’s voice: “I hope that he can at least lift up a pen. This is great progress. Drawing is the best way to communicate with your conscience.”
