Zhou Yumin (ZaiZai) and Xu Hsiyuan (Da S), who became famous because of "Meteor Garden”, had the fortune of meeting with the author of the manga herself. When Japanese female author Youko Kamio saw ZaiZai, suddenly it was like fans seeing their idol, very shyly stealing looks at ZaiZai the entire time, it made the scene look quite amusing!
The night before last, ZaiZai and Da S attended two press conferences for "Meteor Garden” and “Mars” which attracted nearly 200 media personnel who went there for interviews. Because the number of people was too many, the reporters alone needed more than an hour who lined up just to enter the venue.

At the presscon, they were able to invite the “Meteor Garden” author Youko Kamio to be present. Because it is understood that Youko Kamio is in fact also an F4 fan herself, she was extremely shy when saw ZaiZai, and couldn’t look at him straight the entire time. While ZaiZai was being interviewed, she steals adoring looks at him, and even requested to have a photo taken with ZaiZai.

Youko Kamio praised ZaiZai greatly in the interview: “When your own manga is being adapted into a TV drama, it’s a very exciting feeling. Then I see F4, these four boys from Taiwan, and I couldn’t believe it. They’re practically identical to the manga characters, all four of them perfect people!” With regards to ZaiZai who played Hwa Ze Lei, Youko Kamio couldn’t help but praise him again: “At the beginning, when I first saw photos of him I thought only that he’s very like Hwa Ze Lei who has a kind of melancholy feel to him. It was only after conversing with him that I discovered that he’s a very lovable boy, very charming!”

ZaiZai also praised Youko Kami “I feel very honoured that I was able to meet her. That she could write such a perceptive and sensitive manga like “Meteor Garden” is not an easy task. The look in her eyes is very gentle, she has the feeling of an artist.” When mentioned that Youko Kamio would often steal looks at him, ZaiZai smiled in embarrassment and said: “Did she? I’m also very shy, I dare not even look at her!”

ZaiZai, who’s promoting in Japan for the first time, says that it feels strange and unnatural seeing all those giant posters and billboards of himself hanging in the streets of Japan. For the past few days he has been interviewed by more than 10 media groups. ZaiZai, who admits that language is a weak point of his, was very nervous. Luckily Da S, who understands Japanese a little, is there to act as interpreter.

Moreover, this 4 days 3 nights of promotional tour in Japan made ZaiZai so busy he couldn’t breathe. Aside from press conferences, meet-and greet with the fans, and tedious interviews with the media, the media discovered ZaiZai’s is wearing a platinum Cartier ring on his middle finger. To my dear twin Pretty and JMs who can't read Chinese characters...

I couldn't collect the ticket because I had to go to work, so I asked my friend to do it for me. It was No. 1145 which was far away from the stage. Some freinds of mine who are Japanese got No. 49 and No. 79 respectively. They were close to the stage.


We are going to meet at Yoyogi Park ( 代代木公园 ) at seven. Haha!! Please don't delete my thread. I'll post the pictures here later and revise the thread. Hurray!! I'm going to meet Z!!

I rushed off from office at once regardless of my boss. He seemed to look for me, hehe. I hardly got to the venue with a friend. It was crowded with people. I found my friend who got ticket no. 49. How lucky she was!! She was close to the stage. It was seven thirty then. I got ticket no. 1145 which was far away from the stage.


So I decided to attend the exhibition with a friend first. Wow!! I really admired the work of the Japanese. Pictures taking was forbbiden inside, so I obeyed the rules. If we were found breaking them, it'd lose the face of the Chinese.


The clip of Z taken for PARCO was being played. Meanwhile, their costumes of 'Meteor Garden' were shown, too. The ones of Da S seemed rather old. Giant pictures of F4 were displayed everywhere. Ken Chu is so-so to me, but his pictures were rather fascinating. Apart from pictures of 'Meteor Garden', pictures such as 'Mars' and 'Taro' were shown as well. Besides, there was a small room which was decorated romantically in which MVs of F4 were being played there.


The venue was rather small, but the Japanese decorated it well. It gave me a sense of being in the Disneyland. Items such as DVDs and others were sold at the exit. Posters of Z were given if one purchase for 10, 000 ( Yen ).


I took a set of sticker photo ( Meteor Garden ) outside the room. There were few people at that time. Also, I took a picture of the bunch of flowers sent by Vanness. it was eight o'clock something, so we hurried back to the venue.


Since we didn't line up on time, we couldn't go to no. 1145 to wait but the very last of the queue. Somebody played the broadcast around nine. We wondered whether we could meet Z or not since the queue stood still. Those who queued up after us came from Shikoku ( 四国 ).


I was so proud that I fully understood what Z said. The Japanese had to get what he meant from interpretation. The queue started to move at nine twenty-five. The cameramen filmed us, the fans, as well. Some JMs wrote down the words 'Zai Zai' on their palms and of course, the formers filmed that, too.


The queue moved slowly. We guessed we could only progress 50 M forward according to that speed. The whole queue was over 1000 M. The screams of the fans was broadcast. We hoped that those fans could leave because we wanna meet him, too.


The speed became faster later. We were so glad and found it great fun for we had to run then. There were foreigners, aged women, couples and a fan with his / her seven or eight-year-old daughter. We could see posters of Z on the way.


We discussed whether to make any pirate recording or not. Though it was strictly forbidden in Japan, still, it'd be better if we could prepare well in case something might happen. 30 M left before I could meet Z, but we heard from the broadcast that the function was going to the end!! OMG!!


It didn't rain though it seemed likely to be. It was our turn, at last!! We couldn't figure out why others scream like that. Now we understood!! All of us screamed as if we were mad!!


The staff forced me to go once I got in, but we insisted to stay in front of the window. We waved to Z while he was answering the DJ.


He was dressed in white. His hair was shiny balck, and he looked amazingly slim. This was the first time I met Z in person. He looked a bit different from that of the pictures... How slim he was!! There wasn't any extra fat on his face...


While Z was answering the DJ, Da S was waving to us, with a smile. What a belle she was!! She looked like a barbie with big eyes and fair skin. We kept waving, and Z turned around, waving to us, smiling.


Wow!! I forgot what we planned!! Not to mention doing any pirate recording!! In fact we did nothing but kept our eyes on him!! Don't you know, guys? We went crazy!! He was smiling and waving to us!! To us!! We were thrown out by the guards before we were 'Conscious'...

We kept thinking of how Z looked like when we went out. We looked at each other understandingly, as if both of us were mad. Later, I met the Japanese friend whom got ticket no. 49 alone at a cafe nearby, sharing the moment on meeting Z. I told her I met him for around 30 seconds while she said she met him for around 3 minutes!! How lucky she had been!!

She was close to the stage. A JM showed Z a Doraemon's mask and he winked to her. How lovely Z was!! I also heard from other JM that she joined a fan club of Z. 600 members attended the function and 12 of them were lucky enough to take the chance to shake hands with Z. One of them was so excited that she couldn't helping crying.

Da S comforted her with a hug. She told her 'That's OK' in Japanese. Her Japanese was pretty good. Z patted her shoulder and gave her a piece of tissue to wipe her tears. A JM asked them what food they preferred in Japan. Da S replied 'Curry with rice' and Z frowned, not knowing what to say. Then Da S replied, 'OK. I'll pick other'. Z replied quickly,' Curry with rice'. Wasn't he lovely?

Z either waved to the fans or clasped his hands as what monks do. Japanese fans wondered what it meant. I told them it meant 'Thank you'. Haha!! Z was slim and innocent!! I met him in such a rush that I felt dizzy, not to say making any responses.




Who can tell me when Z will leave tomorrow? It is said that very probably he won't leave at eight...

Supplementary:

Japanese JMs left me the way of contact. They told me that they had heard of Vicpower and had surfed it, but they were not familiar with Chinese, so they knew not how to apply to be members. A JM took a picture with Da S while the latter was out and she promised to send me the picture. She came with her mama from Osaka ( 大阪 ).

The function was a great success!! It attracted fans from all over Japan. Japanese JMs called Z as 'Zai Zai'. I am not sure from where they learnt it, but their pronunciation was pretty good. I told them Z likes to take drumsticks and they were interested in it.


One of the Japanese JMs was filmed by Taiwanese reporters. The latter ran the story by saying that the mentioned JM, together with others filmed, could get a poster and an autographed CD of Leehom within a week if they visit TW. Faint... I really admired Japanese fans. They were friendly and helpful. And they were obedient.

We believed that Z will surely visit Japan in the future. Hurray!! I couldn't help smiling on my way home while I was travelling on the tram.

Japanese JMs asked me to confirm when Z will leave tomorrow. Can anybody kindly tell me, please? They are still waiting for me. Thanks.

ZaiZai arrived in Taiwan at 10:50pm. It was already 11:30 when he came out through customs.

So many baggages…looks like he received a lot of gifts in Japan. Zai was in a good mood today…but he still has a cold and looked a bit tired, so he responds to questions with just short answers.

Last night Vic Chou (Zai Zai) and Barbie Hsu (Da S) promoted the TV series "Mars" in Tokyo. They went to two sessions and ZZ was warmly welcomed by local female fans.

Da S hugs a fan
ZZ and Da S were first at a fans gathering in She Gu with about 600 fans. Da S used simple Japanese to answer questions. She also said, "When I was 14 years old I started to buy Japanese book and learned because I really liked Takuya Kimura at the time."

12 fans got to go on stage to shake ZZ and Da S' hand. One ri ji female fan first shook Da S' hand and Da S hugged her amiably. The fan was really touched. Besides seeming like her legs were weak, she also wiped her tears with a tissue. When she shook hands with ZZ, ZZ patted her on the back.

Before ZZ left, he said "I love you" in Japanese. Although he looked embarassed, but the 600 fans at the scene were pleased. There were also fans who took advantage of the time when ZZ was leaving and threw a horse mask to get his attention. When ZZ saw it, he picked it up.

Afterwards ZZ and Da S went to a radio station to get interviewed. They came into contact with about 2000 fans in the live broadcast room. Many fans were hitting the glass window to get ZZ's attention.

ZZ wearing ring of love, become stupid?

ZZ is 'caught'. When he was being interviewed by Taiwan media yesterday, he accidently revealed the Cartier ring on his finger. He said openly: "You can take photos, it's the only thing I can alwasy wear." He says that he now likes cook and would cook curry pork at home.

With a cold and dieting, ZZ only eats one meal a day. Despite this, his sweet expressions reveal that he is in love: "I bought the ring myself, its very cheap". What brand? How much? "That brand that starts with C, about a few tens of thousands."

2 days ago, in Japan, he showed off his Cartier platinum ring. The thing that let people got curious about is that if the ring is the both couple's love gift. He never buys designer clothes, but in order for him to break into Japan, he got to wear lots of name brands for the very first time, being fussed over by the designer until he was covered in sweat all over and felt dizzy in the head, declares frankly that it seemed like he “was getting married”!

ZaiZai Zhou Yu Min, who has only gone shopping and bought a few clothes for himself only twice in the past, accepted more than a hundred interviews from the media in Japan with all the grace of a seasoned general in battle and even had close encounters with Japanese girls. Dressed all in designer clothes, he was charming and stunning, as different from the usually easy-going ZaiZai in the past as heaven from earth.

Shows class and elegance, very unaccustomed to it


This reporter accompanied ZaiZai for this interview on his trip to Tokyo. Seeing the upper-class look the stylists tailor-made for him, mixing and matching 4 different outfits, ZaiZai was enjoying in the midst of it. He said: “I don’t have any opinions, respect the professionals.”



One of them was a very formal-looking suit. When the stylist was tying a hand-woven Japanese silk tie on him, ZaiZai got so “tied-up” he broke out in a sweat. He changed his clothes, looking irresistibly handsome. ZaiZai, who is euphorically in love, feels that he’s a bridegroom about to walk the red carpet, joking that, “This is so unfamiliar to me, I feel like I’m getting married!” Turns out this is the first time he wore a formal suit complete with tie in a public occasion.

One can see that ZaiZai is obviously in a very good mood. He’s got a serious cold and his schedule for interviews is too fully packed he doesn’t even have the time to eat. But he was all smiles nonetheless, answering every question promptly, and would even often tease Da S and speak about matters about him and F3 with humour.

Where before he seemed an idol who’s always kept under wraps and isolated, he is now carefree yet composed, talking and laughing happily. In a span of four years, ZaiZai has gone from the country boy from Yilan, to the Taiwan idol most qualified to challenge Takuya Kimura.

Shows self-confidence, character over gold accessories


In the NT$50,000/day suite of the 5-star Westin Hotel Tokyo located in the Yebisu Garden Place, ZaiZai was having his hair done while Itoh Masaru (stylist of 'The Gospellers' and other popular groups) adjusts his outfit - dark blue suit jacket with a shiny, velvety feel to it, full of class and elegance. Faced with the reporters, he is steady and self-assured, like a superstar who has fought many battles.

When he was just starting out, all questions must be asked and answered through his manager. But now he takes on everything volleyed at him himself, every difficult question he answers easily with his own wisdom. When the topic turned to name brands, he said: “If I wear jewelry or watches I will lose it, and I often lose it, so I can’t buy expensive name brands. A Thai fan once gave me a thick, gold necklace, but I’ve never worn it because I always fear that I’ll lose it, and also it’s too ostentatious.

ZaiZai wears a Cartier ring on the middle finger of his left hand, the style simple yet elegant. He said: “I used to wear a pinkie ring before, for protection against people who might want to do me harm, I wore it until I lost it in the end.” The reporters joked that he probably wore the pinkie ring until “all his friends were gone”, to which he bantered, “Then it’s good that I lost it.” Despite hearing from everyone that there 2 kinds of pinkie ring, gold and silver, and that the effect is vastly different. Gold can cause financial losses, while silver attracts wealth, he still insists “I only wear this Cartier ring for the moment, and I don’t want to take it off.” Shortly after, Da S blurted out that, “ZaiZai is copying me lah”, she has an identical Cartier ring on her finger as her boyfriend Lan Zheng Long (Blue) as a love token.

Before, putting make-up on ZaiZai starts from below the forehead, because his forehead is covered by bangs, it certainly doesn’t need it. And now? He said that: "I was really afraid of make-up, now I don’t insist what part they can’t put it. I don’t even like going out usually. When I’m not working or when I don’t have classes, I always just stay at home.” Lately, ZaiZai is into cooking. He’d cook dishes according to recipe books, and he’s most satisfied with his Japanese-style curry fried pork chop. Of course, there has to be someone who encourages and supports him, to make him do it more enthusiastically.

In reality, ZaiZai has a personality that’s very low-key. He still lives simply even after becoming famous. You won’t see him in nightclubs, and it won’t be likely that the paparazzi will be able to take pictures of him taking his girlfriend out to a movie, because he doesn’t go cinemas. Even get-togethers with F3 are often cancelled because he always muddle up the dates. Vanness would often scold him: “ZaiZai, what is it with you! You’re always mixing up dates and days of the week!” Recently, Japanese girls are all falling in love with him, but ZaiZai innermost feelings wasn’t really inundated with a rush of excitement. He has experienced too many over-zealous fans who chase after celebrities. “I’m not nervous, and I’m not specially excited. I’m just somewhat annoyed that, had I learned to play the guitar better, then I could now sing and play for all of you.” Pure of heart, with looks straight out of a comic book…this, then, is ZaiZai. "Meteor Garden" changed his destiny, but it didn’t change the purity and sincerity of his mind.

But Taiwan’s "Meteor Garden" looked so much like the comic book characters, it was like a refreshing new musical piece, striking deeply into the hearts of the Japanese people.

In the past, foreign actors must be adept at speaking fluent Japanese to be able to break into the Japanese market. But ever since the ‘Korean wave’ invaded Japan, it didn’t matter if a foreign actor couldn’t learn the Japanese language in time. As long as the drama is successful and the actors good-looking, they will certainly become popular. Especially Taiwan idol dramas, most of which are adapted from Japanese manga, as long as they look enough like the characters in the comic books, then penetrating Japan will be doubly easier. ZaiZai and Da S has already proved that “comic book look invades Japan, is the IN thing of the moment”.

Earlier there was a rumour that when F4 was in Las Vegas for a concert, a fan gave ZaiZai a gift of US$6,000,000? He hastily clarified that that red packet is in fact US$6,666 which he tried to return, but the fan wouldn’t take it back, so he could only give it as a donation to charity.
