[2005/6/21] Lian Sheng, ZaiZai invades the European and North American markets

Korean star “Lian Sheng” (Park Eun-hye) and Zhou Yu Min (ZaiZai) have earlier accepted the offer to star in the Xiao Ding Yi-produced drama “Silence”. According to sources, Media 8, a publicly listed company who has always invested in Hollywood movies, favours the box office draw of the two highly and based their decision on that to invest their resources to let this drama break out of the Asian market and into the European and North American markets. The market value of the two has reportedly also escalated because of that. Xiao Ding Yi says, “They still don’t know about this piece of good news. Now their talent fees have gone up so much, much more than when I signed the contract with them.” ZaiZai’s value at present is reportedly NT$150,000 an episode, Lian Sheng meanwhile is at US$20,000 (approximately HK$150,000) an episode.

On Tokyo streets, F4 show their fascinating on and off sides. The first photo album for them in three years is finally coming on to market.

There are increasingly more F4 activities in Japan. As Early as July 20, the 2nd album "Fantasy 4ever" will be released by Sony Music Japan International. Photo album, "F4@Tokyo (http://61.129.47.141/asp/mailtF4@Tokyo)" will go on the market at the same time. It's a newly shot photo album with an "on and off" theme. "On" means they will express themselves in roles of actors and models. "Off" is where they show their true selves as real-life young people.
The photo album contains carefully selected photos. One of those photos is pre-published here. On the opposite page is a studio shot of the four of them gathering together, full of star aura. The 128 pages of the photo album are full of such charms. The special DVD has recorded all the details. Can hardly wait for it to come one the market!

Vic Chow

What Vic experienced is what Japan looks like. He was photographed on streets where young people gather such as the Center Street in Shibuya. Besides that, he also got exposed to Japan's good old days and was photographed in Japanese rooms and gardens in truly Japanese houses.

As long as Yan Cheng Xu and Gu Tian Le are on the scene, “ZaiZai” Zhou Yu Min must be a level lower than them? ZaiZai fans recently made an effort to bring Fulong Management Agency and Pepsi HK to a standstill with large amount of faxes to request an explanation.

ZaiZai fan’s club “ZaiZai Dong Li Lian Meng” (Vicpower) used photos taken at the scene and seat maps to show that, when ZaiZai and Yan Cheng Xu went to Hong Kong last week to attend an activity for the premiere of a Pepsi commercial together with Gu Tian Le, ZaiZai as well as his fans very obviously received an unfair treatment, even the fans who flew in to see ZaiZai were relegated to “third-class citizens”.

The said fan club also pointed out that, for a week following the event, F4’s management agency “Fulong” and Pepsi both haven’t made any explanations, and so fans from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China have continued their protest without once stopping. ZaiZai fans pointed out that they were assigned to the back section farthest away from the stage the day of the Pepsi event. There was no way to see their idol standing on stage clowing the candles and making a wish. “To come up with a good work plan for an artist, fight for good job opportunities for them, as well as defend the artist’s right and treatment in any public activities and situations --- that’s the responsibility of the management agency. But “Fulong” haven’t done any of that! ZaiZai haven't had any work for a year already. And now even in a promotional activity he is picked on by everyone. Fulong, I blush with shame for you!”

Yesterday F4’s management agency finally made an explanation. The manager from Fulong who’s currently in Shanghai, Zhi Xiang Li, indicated thanks to the ZaiZai fans for their long term support, but to please do not think they received “racial discrimination”. He said that when Pepsi gave the tickets to him, he gave the front right area facing the stage to the Yan Cheng Xu fans, because said that they are only 200+ persons, while ZaiZai fans have the most number there that day, and so they reserved the back area with a total of 400 seats.

Zhi Xiang Li stressed that the back area had to be divided because the section in the middle was for the media. That actually there are still 700-800 fans of Yan Cheng Xu and Gu Tian Le who cannot enter and must wait outside. He further disclosed that Gu Tian Le was originally supposed to be the one standing in middle on stage, but due to his persistence, it was only then that Yan Cheng Xu was arranged to stand in the middle. This is his to show his regard for the F4 fans present.

To repay the support of the fans, Zhi Xiang Li even revealed ZaiZai’s new project: two TV dramas, which have already entered the final discussion of the details. And the movie that ZaiZai was supposed to do long ago was delayed up to now because of the director, the schedule and other problems. Not because Fulong didn’t coordinate new work for ZaiZai. Zhi Xiang Li guarantees that the cast in ZaiZai’s next TV series will surely make the fans happy.

Funny. I looked in the mirror but I don't think I look stupid. Do we look stupid? Do we look like we’re not educated in basic arithmetic? Jerry has 200 fans present and ZaiZai has 400 fans? That’s the total number of tickets that Pepsi distributed that night! So where were the Louis Koo fans? Mr. Zhi should polish his arithmetic before making up this fairy tale to entertain little children. Besides, ZaiZai fans only got 100+ tickets, (there were even Jerry fans in the blue and green section) so where were the rest? Why assign all ZaiZai fans TO THE BACK? Why not divide the front section up EQUALLY between the two fan groups? And according to the fans who were there, there were no “600-800 Yan Cheng Xu and Gu Tian Le fans waiting outside”! Mr. Zhi just wanted to make it seem like he’s doing the ZaiZai fans a favour! Come on, who would believe that?! Only an imbecile will say these things and contradict himself.

The more he says the more he incriminates himself. Someone should tell this man to just shut up.

He’s using ZaiZai’s supposed new projects to placate the fans. I only hope that ZaiZai was not pressured into doing these projects.

Z: Privately we were fighting. The director said we had to film this scene, in the scene before we fought and then I was mad at her. In this scene I had to apologize to her and the director could see that my expression wasn't sincere. I wasn't sincere at all and said it with a murderous look but I still had to say sorry.

As long as Yan Cheng Xu and Gu Tian Le are on the scene, “ZaiZai” Zhou Yu Min must be a level lower than them? ZaiZai fans recently made an effort to bring Fulong Management Agency and Pepsi HK to a standstill with large amount of faxes to request an explanation.

ZaiZai fan’s club “ZaiZai Dong Li Lian Meng” (Vicpower) used photos taken at the scene and seat maps to show that, when ZaiZai and Yan Cheng Xu went to Hong Kong last week to attend an activity for the premiere of a Pepsi commercial together with Gu Tian Le, ZaiZai as well as his fans very obviously received an unfair treatment, even the fans who flew in to see ZaiZai were relegated to “third-class citizens”.

The said fan club also pointed out that, for a week following the event, F4’s management agency “Fulong” and Pepsi both haven’t made any explanations, and so fans from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China have continued their protest without once stopping. ZaiZai fans pointed out that they were assigned to the back section farthest away from the stage the day of the Pepsi event. There was no way to see their idol standing on stage clowing the candles and making a wish. “To come up with a good work plan for an artist, fight for good job opportunities for them, as well as defend the artist’s right and treatment in any public activities and situations --- that’s the responsibility of the management agency. But “Fulong” haven’t done any of that! ZaiZai haven't had any work for a year already. And now even in a promotional activity he is picked on by everyone. Fulong, I blush with shame for you!”

Yesterday F4’s management agency finally made an explanation. The manager from Fulong who’s currently in Shanghai, Zhi Xiang Li, indicated thanks to the ZaiZai fans for their long term support, but to please do not think they received “racial discrimination”. He said that when Pepsi gave the tickets to him, he gave the front right area facing the stage to the Yan Cheng Xu fans, because said that they are only 200+ persons, while ZaiZai fans have the most number there that day, and so they reserved the back area with a total of 400 seats.

Zhi Xiang Li stressed that the back area had to be divided because the section in the middle was for the media. That actually there are still 700-800 fans of Yan Cheng Xu and Gu Tian Le who cannot enter and must wait outside. He further disclosed that Gu Tian Le was originally supposed to be the one standing in middle on stage, but due to his persistence, it was only then that Yan Cheng Xu was arranged to stand in the middle. This is his to show his regard for the F4 fans present.

For me, one good thing coming out this news article is that it has confirmed what I have been suspecting: Zhi Xiang Li is not a good manager for Zaizai.

At least this is now out in the open.

Pronunciation error at the interview

Vic was talking about making a trip to Okinawa. Right after he said that they traveled by ship, he asked the staff around him if it was correct since he has a problem with pronouncing "an" and "ang". He had tried it out pronouncing it slowly first and everybody had confirmed it, but his efforts were wasted. ... A huge mistake

He pronounced "shang chuan" wrongly as shang chuang". "shang chuan" is to board a ship whereas "shang chuang" is to go to bed, which means to sleep and which in turn can mean making love in a roundabout way. Vic was talking cheerfully of traveling to Okinawa. The conversation was about the journey, but it might just possibly be interpreted as making love. Staff could only smile ironically.

Zaizai interview in Japan "Taiwan TV Drama" Pt 1

A long and interesting interview conducted in March when he was in Japan to promote Mars and Meteor Garden.

They have really come to Japan!!

F4 Japan Emergent Press Conference was held on April 27, 2005. The reason of their visit was to shoot photos for the upcoming F4 photo album, scheduled to be released in July.

They arrived one by one at the Narita Airport, Jerry and Vanness on April 23, Ken and Vic on April 24. On April 27, except for Ken who stayed in Japan, the rest of them left Japan hurriedly. The press conference was held on the morning of their last day in Japan. After entering 2005, indeed F4 have increasingly grabbed a lot of attention.

It was their first encounter with Japan media, so quite a lot of press members attended the gathering.

They have lots of zealous fans since their debut in Japan. Many people must have thought: "Finally, the day has come!"

With a simplicity not suitable for the showbiz
But naturally born with star quality

The first time when I saw Zaizai up close, I was even more fascinated by the childlike expressions on his face than by his beautiful face features - seemingly shy that only his eyes were moving. English-fluent Vanness and Ken were on his two sides, so he just giggled and cast side glances at them. Sometimes urged by Vanness, he would straighten himself and said a few words like a naughty child instructed by a teacher. Zaizai behaved exactly like a cute youngest brother. On the other hand, you could also see manly expressions as he showed in his latest works Mars.

The interview was conducted in March in a hotel in the city where he stayed with other Mars costars. DaS came to the room where the interview was conducted to take pictures. They were close friends, cared about each other, and worked with the press with a good mood.

Mom urged him to enter the showbiz

Q 1.1: Please tell me how you debut chance came by. Was it that you accompanied a friend to the audition?

Zaizai: Yes. I went to the audition with a friend who auditioned for the Qinghe role in the Meteor Garden and was scouted.

Q 1.2: Wasn't you originally not interested in the show biz?

Zaizai: Yes. Since I'm shy, originally I couldn't image myself working in front of crowds of people.

Q 1.3: Then, why did you decide to enter the showbiz?

Zaizai: The day I was scouted, the producer asked me to star in Meteor Garden. But I didn't have confidence in my acting skills. On top of that, I couldn't bring myself to do it at all, so I immediately turned down the offer. I went home and told the whole thing as a joke to my mom. My mom instantly became enthusiastic about it (Laugh). In the end, pressured by my mom, I had to say okay. Once I replied to the producer, arrangements for taking acting lessons were made. I immediately started taking acting lessons.

Q 1.4: So, thanks to your mom for what you have now!

Zaizai: Yes (Laugh). I fulfilled my mom's dream.

Q 1.5: Is your mom's face as pretty as yours?

Zaizai: Her face looks just like mine (Laugh)!

DaS was offended when he said he was a fan of her sister.

Q 2.1: What were your impressions when you first met other F4 members and DaS?

Zaizai: Vanness and I took the acting lessons together at the beginning, we got along immediately. The other two were already in the showbiz and also had more experiences in acting, I regarded them as seniors. Barbie and her sister have formed a group called SOS. Previously I was a fan of her sister (Laugh). Barbie is very small; I was astonished that such a doll-like person existed when I first met Barbie. I'm glad that we have become friends.

Q 2.2: When you said you were a fan of her sister, Barbie got angry, didn't she?

Zaizai: She was instantly offended when I said that (Laugh).

Q 2.3: Among the members, especially Jerry who is four years older and is a senior in the showbiz, did you have to exercise special care and awareness in acting as a childhood friend and a love rival?

Zaizai: Actually I don't feel our age difference is that big. I think, once starting working in the society, for example even with people 10 years older, one should be sociable with them on equal term. So, I didn't sense much of the age difference. But at that time Jerry was already a famous model, I had seen him in magazines and on TVs before I entered the showbiz. So, just like normal people would feel seeing a star, I was nervous the first time I met him. As we worked together and soon became friends, I started feeling relaxed. He is different from what he looks and is as innocent as a youth. Usually he is easy to get along. But once he starts working, he is completely changed and treats everything seriously. This side of him is good for me and I'm learning from him.

First overseas trip was to film on location in Okinawa

Q 3.1 Do F4 members go out together in private?

Zaizai: At first, we didn't know each other, so we didn't much socialize. When we got to film the latter half of Meteor Garden, We all had become friends. When I was off, I would go visit them on the set or we would go out to have some drinks. We really became close friends when we released the CD together. During that time we often went out together.

Q 3.2: Now that the four of you all have become stars of Asia, you can no longer find that kind of time, can you?

Zaizai: Because we work independently now, we end up feel closer. Indeed we all are very busy and don't have much time to spend together. Because of that, we feel all the more happy and cherish the time we spend together. Now eating together is something to cherish.

Q 3.3 You had gone to Okinawa to film Meteor Garden, didn't you? Please tell us some anecdotes about it.

Zaizai: it was the first time I went overseas. Usually people fly for overseas trips, but the script wrote that we went to Okinawa by ship. At first we were all thrilled about it and were very excited, I in particular since it was my first time. I was buoyant and excited with joy. Before we left, the staff warned us and wanted us to take medicines to prevent seasickness. But I had never been on a ship and didn't know what seasickness was. I paid no attention to it. We were having fun and finished the first day of shooting without a hitch. But when the night drew close, none of us could laugh any more. We all got seasickness (Laugh). We all threw up and were in really bad shape (Laugh). (He cast a side glance at Barbie taking pictures nearby.) I think it happened to Barbie too.

Q 3.4: You had gone through such hardship for shooting it,can you tell us a scene you consider cool to watch?

Zaizai: The kissing scene with Shan Cai on the beach when we traveled by ship. I thought I looked cool too. (He smiled shyly.) Meteor Garden was the first TV drama I starred. So did Barbie. It was my first kissing scene in TV dramas. It felt like stealing a first kiss from each other (Laugh). (Actually Barbie's first kissing scene was with Jerry.)

Cracking unusual weird jokes was how he repaid other F4 members for their help.

Q 4.1: Besides focusing on love stories, friendship between guys is also an important part of Meteor Garden. In real life, do you have F4-kind of relatives and friends?

Zaizai: Of course I have many relatives and friends. Taiwan has military services, where people sleep and take shower together, i.e. people live together. But usually it's very rare for friends taking bath together. Recently I went to a hot spring resort with a few good friends. Taiwan's hot spring resorts are different from Japan's and are equipped with private rooms where people usually go in by oneself. But that time we went to a public bathhouse. We all jumped in without clothes. It was a very rare experience for me. I feel our friendship has gone deeper after that (Laugh).

Q 4.2: Doesn't Taiwan have public bathhouse?

Zaizai: Very few. It's customary for people wearing swimming wear in places like SPA. Since I'm not used to it, initially I strongly resisted not wearing anything because I was shy. But I soon started enjoying it. We splashed hot water onto each other like children.

Q 4.3: From your point of view, what kind of relationship does it exist among F4 members?

Zaizai: Without question, we are better than colleagues. For me, it's my first group. I have gone through my first drama and CD with them. I'm very shy. Initially I didn't know what to say during interviews. The other members would come to my rescue. To pay them back, I told some light jokes. They were all just cold jokes (Laugh). After many practices, my jokes became popular. It became part of my reputation. Taiwan reporters thought it was interesting. During interviews, they always asked, "Please tell some cold jokes." (Laugh.) Even though now we are engaging in different activities respectively, for me F4 members are irreplaceable.

The kissing scenes with Barbie are the best highlights of Mars

Q 5.1: Please tell us something about Mars. Mars is about a youth whose heart has been badly hurt. You also acted the role of the younger brother. Facing the challenge of playing two roles, what kind of efforts did you make in order to act them?

Zaizai: It's the first time I feel like a professional in a drama. After reading the script, I thought the roles were difficult to act. To prepare for them, I met with the director twice. The director recommended a book to read, saying that after reading the book, I might understand the psychological aspect of Ling. After reading the book, we started shooting on locations. Playing the two roles wasn't that difficult, I just made some slight changes to the acting methods. What I had suffered more was Ling's fighting scenes. To shoot cool-looking fighting scenes, we toiled a lot for the best poses. A fighting master was called in. While we fought each other, poses were selected and shot. Fortunately, many satisfied poses were shot.

Q 5.2: Which scene in Mars do you recommend?

Zaizai: We all worked very hard for Mars, I wish you will watch it all. But if I have to, it would be the kissing scenes with Kira, they are very beautiful. You must see them. In private life, the relationship between Barbie and I are older sister and younger brother. We always joke and make fun of each other. It was very embarrassing to act the kissing scenes. Barbie has a boy friend. Right before shooting a scene, we would root each other to finish the scene in one take. But as we saw the other person's face, the two of us would burst into laugher. Sometimes it took many NGs to finish a scene (Laugh).

I'm more inclined to be an actor than a singer.

Q 6.1: You have been active in both acting and singing, will you continue in both areas?

Zaizai: Since I joined the showbiz up until now, I have released two CDs in Taiwan and starred in several TV series. I will appear in TV series and movies if there are good scripts. For myself, I like acting more than singing.

Q 6.2: Zaizai, when you see someone you like, which type are you - pursue as aggressively as Dao Ming Si or watch attentively like Lei?

Zaizai: um... In private life, I think I'm more like Dao Ming Si (Laugh), the type who chases at full speed (Laughing happily).

Q 6.3: What kind of girls do you like?

Zaizai: I like gentle type of girl. But it wouldn’t be good if she doesn't like to talk. It's best if she can play basketball with my male friends. After that, the most important thing is being dutiful to one's parents. It would be nice to be dutiful to my parents, but what's more important is to be dutiful to her own parents. The reason is that a person dutiful to his or her own parents can't be a bad person.

Q 6.4: What kind of kid were you in your childhood? You’ve got a pretty face, were you famous in the neighborhood?

Zaizai: Not at all! I was completely different from now. I was rather messy when I was little.

Q. 6.5: Was you an active child?

Zaizai: Way over too active.

Q 6.6: What were you good at?

Zaizai: I liked to draw, and I was relatively good at it. My brother also liked to draw. We often competed with each other. I particularly hated to lose. I would sneak a look at my brother's drawing out of the corner of my eyes. (He pretended looking out of the corner of his eyes.). For example, if my brother was drawing the house, I would draw the same thing. (Pretending he was drawing) If I saw him drawing trees, not to be defeated, I would draw trees. I would bring the drawing to my mother and said something like, "Isn't my drawing better?" Anyway, I was very determined (Laugh).

Oversea offers must include paying weekly round-trip tickets (Laugh).

Q 7.1: Any future overseas activities planned?

Zaizai: There are always offers coming in. I'm still a students and needs to attend class three times a week. It's impossible for me to stay overseas a long time for location shooting. So I have been centering my activities in Taiwan. There have been all kinds of offers from Hong Kong and China. The first thing I enquire is that if they would pay for two tickets every week since I have to return to Taiwan (Laugh). I'm just kidding. Right now the situations for overseas activities are difficult. At present there hasn't been any concrete plan for working overseas.

Q. 7.2 There were so many fans welcoming you at the airport when you arrived in Japan, please say a few words to them.

Zaizai: I was overjoyed at the time. I would not have expected to see that many fans waiting. It’s all thanks to fans' support that we have come this far. I would be nice that, in the future, F4 members can go beyond Tokyo and visit other Japanese places to do promotions.

When taking pictures before the interview, the photographer issued requests one after another, "Touch here.", "Look here.", "Sit here." Zaizai would move as were told, but he would say, "Taking so many pictures, enough to publish a photo album!” looking anxious to have the picture-taking session finished earlier. Photos of making funny faces and smiling mischievously were taken between serious-looking photos. But more than those poses, his merely gazing seriously into the camera showcased the beautiful face and sparkling eyes. Once again the thought came to mind that in spite of being such a simple young mean, he is destined to become a star.
Ever since he started in the showbiz, he has been criticized for his pronunciation. During the interview, from time to time, he would turn around to confirm with the staff with questions like, "Do I now pronounce appropriately? Does it sound right?" (He still seemed to have made quite a few mistakes....)

Even he is such a big star now, he is still a little shy. At the beginning he greeted us with a smiling face, looking a little bashful. During the interview he talked happily with his large eyes moving. At the time the interview was conducted, Zaizai still had a little cold. After the interview at the hotel, he had a tightly-packed schedule of press conference, fan meeting, and live broadcast on FM radio. In spite of all these, all the time he either looked a little shy or responded, smiling mischievously, completely different from artists' artificial smiles. It's probably because by nature he is an amiable and gentle person. Zaizai is refreshing and simple and looks gorgeously. It should be interesting to see what kind of actor and man he will grow into.

Pronunciation error at the interview

Vic was talking about making a trip to Okinawa. Right after he said that they traveled by ship, he asked the staff around him if it was correct since he has a problem with pronouncing "an" and "ang". He had tried it out pronouncing it slowly first and everybody had confirmed it, but his efforts were wasted. ... A huge mistake

He pronounced "shang chuan" wrongly as shang chuang". "shang chuan" is to board a ship whereas "shang chuang" is to go to bed, which means to sleep and which in turn can mean making love in a roundabout way. Vic was talking cheerfully of traveling to Okinawa. The conversation was about the journey, but it might just possibly be interpreted as making love. Staff could only smile ironically.
