Zaizai interview at QZ press conference

CETV Mars premiere was held on the night of 27th in Guangzhou. Zaizai Zhou Yu Min, DaS Xu Xi Yuan, and newcomer Lai Ya Yan attracted more than 600 funs across the country and from places such as Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Some of the Mars highlights were played in the premiere. The two leading actors' faces flushed and they were sweating with cold sweat while watching the love scenes. DaS, who is rumored currently having personal emotional problems, never mentioned Lan Zheng Long. She praised Zaizai's acting skills had made a great leap.

Zaizai interview: keen on acting roles with more depth

Was too absorbed in the role and "fell in love" with DaS

Reporter: You played two roles in Mars; especially Ling's personality is very different from yours. Do you have any particular thoughts on them?

Zaizai: Of course Ling's dark side is not like me, but his devotion to and bravery about love is quite like me. Contrarily, I feel Sheng is too weak. I don't like him. Actually, I'm not like him either. My own personality is more versatile.

Reporter: This is the third time you collaborate with DaS. Are you intended to create a new edition of best screen lovers like Qin Han and Lin Qing Xia of old time? Do you become not responding after collaborating many times? Are you considering new partners?

Zaizai: I'm not the type of person chasing after new things. I'm glad that I can work with DaS again and being appreciated. As for Qin Han and Lin Qing Xia, Ha Ha. It would be great if we can reach that kind of state. DaS and I were both very absorbed in the roles. We couldn't help feeling embarrassing because of the many love scenes. At some instant I would feel like I had falling in love with the leading actress. Fortunately when the director called cut, I could withdraw myself out of it. I don't have the right to choose my leading actresses. But for sure I will collaborate with other actresses. I hope there will be new inspirations inspired.

Too immersed in his character, fell in “love” with Da S

Reporter: You play two separate characters in Mars, especially Ling whose personality is so different from your own. Did you come by any particular insight while you were acting this role?

ZaiZai: Ling’s dark side is not much like me of course, nut his determination and courage towards love is quite the same as me. On the contrary, it is Sheng who I don’t like because I feel he is too weak. The real me is not like him. My personality is more changeable.

Reporter: This is the 3rd time you’ve worked together with Da S. Are there any plans of establishing a new love team for the silver screen, like Qin Han and Lin Qing Xia before? Does working too many times with Da S make you feel anesthetized and think about teaming up with another actress?

ZaiZai: I’m not a person who believes in “In with the new and out with the old”. I feel very happy to be able to work with Da S again and earn everyone’s approval. As for Qin Han and Lin Qing Xia, haha, it would be great if I could achieve what they have. Both I and Da S are very engrossed in our characters. Because there are a lot of passionate scenes there will inevitably be times when it gets awkward. At some point I will also feel that I’ve fallen in love with the female lead character. Fortunately I am still able to dissociate myself the moment the director yells 'Cut!' I don’t have the right to choose which actress I work with, but I will most certainly be able to work with other actresses and create a new kind of spark.

Reporter: F4 is said to have benefited the most from the success of Taiwan idol dramas. “Meteor Garden” made the four of you popular throughout Asia, and for the past two years there have been more and more Taiwan idol dramas. What is your opinion on that?

ZaiZai: It’s not necessarily a bad thing to have so many. On the contrary, I would like to see more outstanding artists from Taiwan aside from F4 and Jay Chou popular in every Asian countries. It’s true that most idol dramas nowadays are somewhat substandard, but there are still good ones around, like “Come to My Place” – I thought that wasn’t bad. A lot of drama series now are collaborations between Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China, and sometimes even with Korean actors. This way the work and the investment can be distributed evenly between everybody and the actors get to work with other actors. It’s a very good, new approach.

Fame came too quickly, success still baffles him

Reporter: You were still young when F4 became famous. How did you view your success then?

ZaiZai: Not that young! Just younger than now, haha! To be completely honest, during “Meteor Garden” I didn’t really know what success was, because I’ve never failed. I accompanied a friend to the audition and then was chosen to be in the series. At that time everybody encouraged me to treat it like just a summer job. I myself didn’t think anything of it, it was just for fun. It never occurred to me that we would suddenly become so famous. I remember F4’s first autograph session in Taipei – several streets were lined up full of people, the stage collapsed and we were forced to cancel the event. And the four of us even had tocome out and apologize because of that, haha. Now I think back on it and it’s very bewildering. All of our success before is due to “Meteor Garden”, credits should go to the director and Chai jie (Angie Chai). That’s why the four of us are watchful and alert and prepared. We all work very hard, hoping that there would be a new breakthrough in our careers, a success that we can call our own.

Reporter: You performance in “Mars” earned recognition from so many people, even Da S said that you improved a lot. Are TV drama series the main direction you want to take in the future?

ZaiZai: Yes, definitely. After filming “Mars” I have become quite demanding and picky. I have set very high standards towards new plays. I think that those roles with light love stories should be left to the younger people. At my age I need something with more depth.

Reporter: But you’re only 24 years old, is it necessary to look for depth so early?

ZaiZai: I started at 19. It’s been five years already, there is a need for more depth. A while ago some kids have already called me “Uncle ZaiZai”, if I don’t shape up on my acting, they’d start calling me “Grandpa ZaiZai”.



"Mars" is too raunchy

Reporter: There are a lot of passionate scenes in “Mars”, how do you regard idol dramas that incorporates passionate scenes and violence?

ZaiZai: We were all very serious about it during filming. We didn’t care if the result was “pretty” or not. I want the audience to feel that it’s all very normal. But watching those scenes earlier compiled together really made me blush and perspire. Made me feel like “Mars” is too raunchy. Truth is, acting to me is really a fun thing to do. You get to do a lot of things you can’t do in real life, and when you see the results you get this sense of achievement everytime that gives a feeling of contentment I’ve never had before. As for what you said about idol dramas adding a new element…well, what is an idol drama after all? Should a film be deemed an idol drama just because it stars a young, good looking cast? Being young and good looking is supposed to be an advantage! Look at Andy Lau – he’s good looking. Does that mean that he couldn’t act in the films he made when he was young? Hasn’t he also received so many acting awards now, not only in Hong Kong, but also in Taiwan and China! I believe that idol dramas that depend solely on beauty is past it already. The audience nowadays are not necessarily kids. People should change their point of view and treat idol dramas maturely, elevate our standard in watching television.

Reporter: Are there any other plans this year? Will you release another album?

ZaiZai: There are still plans for a movie, TV series and an album, I should think. I’ve never been familiar with the aspect of music. For the last two albums, I’ve always been at ease with just listening to the suggestions of my teachers and didn’t put in much of my own ideas. But for the third album I hope I can include more of my own feelings. I think this kind of music suits me better. I hope my third album will be about the real me, all of me.

i especially love the pic wherein his right hand was on a position seemingly telling people to quiet down while he was slightly winking. ;)

F4 who is tremendously popular in Asian countries visited Japan in late April and held a promotion press conference in a hotel in Tokyo Metropolitan.

F4 made a splash when debuting in 2001 in Meteor Garden, an adaptation from Japan's popular comics "Hana Yori Dango". They acted its main characters, a group of four beautiful men. The drama became an unprecedented big hit in Asian countries. They took the opportunity and expanded beyond TV series. They released their debut CD using the group name F4. The first album, Meteor Rain, sold 4 million copies. After that they held concerts and starred in more TV dramas. They have grasped firmly the hearts of Asian women. Now they still dominates as Asian super stars.

They started attracting attention in Japan after Japan BS TV broadcasting Meteor Garden in 2003. The number of their fans jumped and their popularity grew drastically when the Kansai local stations started broadcasting the drama. They extended their territory into selling TV magazines and Asian-centered idol magazines publishing F4 articles. Vic came in March and drew a great deal of attention. The four came together for the first time. There were more than 300 press groups gathered at their official press conference.

In front of the press stood four men of height 180 cm, looking magnificent and eye-dazzling. They are indeed the superstars and are welcomed with non-stopping flash lights. "The four of us will join forces and make most use of this opportunity." Jerry made the declaration of entering the Japan market. Moreover, "We will make time to come to Japan o interact with fans." said Vic. Activities in Japan are planned.

The day of the press conference was also the day their debut album Meteor Rain was released in Japan. The album was ranked No. 10 on the Oricon weekly chart in a week. In June, the world's first fan club will be established in Japan. In July their movies will be shown openly in Tokyo. The photo album for which they had come to Japan will also be published. This summer F4 who has conquered all Asia will sure to take Japan by storm.

Actually, if memory serves me right, ZZ did not directly admit before the media that he and wei lun are dating. It is mostly through the way they conducted themselves in public which more or less confirmed that they are dating. But it's more open now.

There are mostly articles and paparazzi pictures that caught the two in certain moments. Like there was an article once when a black Audi (black, right zaichos?) which was identified as ZZ's car fetched Wei Lun at her place and dropped her off, apparently after a date. It was this year however that clear pics were taken by paparazzi where ZZ took Wei Lun home and then they talked momentarily in front of Wei Lun's place while she was searching for her keys. There was also another pic where both of them where on a double date at the movies with ZZ's older bro and his then girlfriend (now wife). Those pics showed Wei Lun handing ZZ's his wallet and keys. A simple yet quite an intimate act.

If you ask my opinion, I would say, yep, they're dating. It's pretty obvious. And I think most of the Zaichos have accepted this fact. I just hope he learns his lesson soon.

I've been posting this long ago but like the old reliables said, they want Vic's thread to be as updated and informative and not merely active with crap postings. Lian Sheng is to co-star with Vic Zhou in a HK-Taiwan TV series

June 3, 2005, Sun of Hong Kong

Po En Hui who acted as Lian Sheng in "Jewel In the Palace" will be paid record-breaking HK$5 million to star in Silence, a joint production worthy of HK$25 million and co-funded by Hong Kong and Taiwan production firms. Po En Hui will be in Hong Kong on June 13 and 14 to promote cosmetics. She will officially sign up for the TV series on June 15 and then will go to Taiwan to shoot for locations. The series is called "Xiang Ju Yi Ke" in Taiwan. The leading actor is set to be Taiwan F4 member Zhou Yu Min.

Because the TV series is invested by F4 member Zhou Yu Min's manager Chai Zhi Ping and Hong Kong's Xia Ding Yi. Although there are rumors saying that the leading actor is Zheng Yi Jian or Gu Ju Ji. But Chai Zhi Ping confirms that these are all rumors and says, "Silence's first choice is still Zaizai. He is reading the story project. Sighing up will be determined after he finishes reading the script."

6/4 Fans raise over $120,000 to help the poor for Zai Zai's birthday

June 9th is Vic Chou's (Zai Zai) 24th birthday. Fans from all over the
world did charitable work to celebrate their idol's birthday. Besides donating money in ZZ's name to help impoverished children go back to school in 24 regions, plus the funds raised for the South Asia tsunami disaster, they raised over NT$500,000 (about HKD$125,000), touching the birthday boy.



Ever since ZZ asked fans not to waste their money on buying him gifts,
fans from all over the world would celebrate his birthday by doing charitable work. Among them, Vic Power started a "ZZ Love Project" where they help those in need. To celebrate ZZ's 24th birthday, recently through China's "Chun Lei Plan" they donated RenMinBi$28,800 to help poverty-stricken children in 24 regions to return to school


Because ZZ's hometown is Yilan, for the past 3 years fans have aided 8
impoverished children from "Yilan Family Support Center." In addition to paying attention to the children in China and Taiwan, ZZ fans would also donate to the Singapore Child Medicine Fund to help local children who are ill.



Fans also participate in many urgent disaster relief activities. In the
beginning of this year F4 attended "AZIO Send Love To South Asia" to
help the South Asia tsunami disaster. The four's fans called in to donate incessantly. Vic Power immediately donated more than NT$147,000.
At the same time they also donated to Thailand's Red Cross with the help of ZZ's Thailand fans. The sum of the first half of the year funds surpasses NT$500,000, incredible!



Before his birthday, ZZ went to Beijing and Guangzhou to promote "Mars." At that time not only did he receive more than 100 gifts, he also received Vic Power's card through fans. When he saw the card given to him for his birthday by the 24 children, ZZ was very touched, "They might not know who I am, but I only hope that they can study happily." ZZ appreciates fans for doing charitable work for him. He also laughing said that the most suprising thing that happened this year was being called "Uncle Zai Zai."

Ami Suzuki likes Taiwan drama; she just loves Hua Ze Lei Zaizai

Ami Suzuki also likes Taiwan idol drama "Meteor Garden". She specifically names Zaizai Zhou Yu Min who played the role of Hua Ze Lei. But Dao Ming Si of the original manga is the type of guys she likes in real life.

After being embroiled in lawsuits and recuperating for four years, Ami Suzuki joined Avex in March and staged a successful comeback. She was interviewed on June 1 in Tokyo by Taiwan media. She has a pair of large lively eyes, palm-size face and thin body. She looked even cuter than her photos. She has never been to Taiwan since she joined the show business. But through Meteor Garden which has taken Japan by storm, Ami Suzuki has gained some preliminary knowledge of the Taiwan locations shown in Meteor Garden.

Ami Suzuki said that Japan had previously adapted Meteor Garden into a movie, but the story line was changed. She never thought that the Taiwan version of drama would cherish and preserve the spirits of the original manga. The roles and dialogues are almost exactly the same as the manga. As a loyal Meteor Garden fan, she enjoys watching it.

Ami Suzuki said, "Via Meteor Garden, I know that Taiwan has an idol group called F4. I like Hua Ze Lei played by Zaizai. But actually Dao Ming Si is a better fit for the type of guys whom I like in real life because his personality is more positive and feels like a leader." Ami Suzuki joked that if she had to select a candidate from Japanese male artists for Hua Ze Lei, she thought Gackt's temperament and atmosphere were most suitable.

Zaizai-san: presently surprised

When Zaizai finds out that Ami Suzuki appreciates him, he is surprised at first and says, "It is she indeed? I'm very happy about it. It would be nice if I have a chance to collaborate with her in the future."

Fate seems to draw Zaizai and Japan together. His first photo album was shot in Japan. Mars went to Sendai, Japan to shoot the racing scenes. Both Meteor Garden and Pepsi Cola went to Okinawa for locations. Every time when he visits Japan, he feels very familiar and has no strange feelings. Recently Japanese women have eyes only for Korean male stars, but the local media predicts that Korea Wave will come to an end and be replaced by male stars of China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. A hot trend of Chinese male stars is destined to come in the future. F4 and Edison Chen are the favorites.

The issue of "Women 7" magazine published yesterday covers many male stars of the big Chinese circle. It says that F4 have become popular because of Meteor Garden. Accordingly their CDs have been selling well. F4 and Hong Kong movie, internal affairs, definitely are the major forces pushing the Chinese Wave forward.

Zaizai's cuteness matched by none

The magazine invites senior reporters who are familiar with Chinese cultures to analyze and select 9 Chinese stars with potential to become popular in Japan. My Story...

I planned for this trip for the most part of my summer vacation (in the Philippines, summer vacation starts in April until the first week of June). When the event in Beijing was postponed, I was really disappointed, and when subsequently the event in Guangzhou was also postponed, I was brokenhearted! But fortunately, both events pushed through and I was able to attend both.

I really pushed through with this trip even though I’ll be traveling alone from the Philippines and I only understand basic Mandarin! Good thing, I met so many wonderful JMs from Singapore (Wee) and Hong Kong (Tonton, Cecilia, Louise, Mrs Ma, Agnes, Jeannie, Doki, Ami, Jess), who took care of me during the entire trip. Wee translated for me while the HK JMs were the ones who reserved plane tickets, hotels, etc. The Beijing and Guangzhou JMs also extended wonderful assistance to us, overseas fans.


When I arrived in Hong Kong last May 25 (Wednesday), Wee and I met up with Hong Kong JMs, who treated us to a Japanese restaurant! I had a really nice time with them although I could only understand bits of the conversation. :D The next morning (May 26 – Thursday), we all met in HK Airport. At first we thought that we already missed Zai’s flight. The 3-hour plane ride from Hong Kong to Beijing was pure torture coz I thought that we wouldn’t be able to see him inside the Beijing Airport. Once we landed in Beijing, we learned that Zai actually has not yet arrived in Beijing! We all broke into smiles after hearing this news. It seems that Zai took a later flight than us (ours is at 10:40am, while he took the 11:30 flight). We all decided to wait for him in the arrival gates. We made an agreement that no one will take a video or picture of Zai so that his PAs would not shoo us! After waiting for about an hour, Zai finally appeared! I didn’t even notice Barbie, hehe!



I approached him and I can’t really remember my exact words to him. I think I greeted him "zhu ni sheng ri kuai le” and then I passed on to him the gifts from the Philippines and Singapore. I was able to touch his hand when he took the gifts from my hand :D I looked at him and said, “ZaiZai, gifts from the Philippines and Singapore.” He nodded and thanked me.



We walked beside him on the way to the immigration area. I kept on staring at him, trying to memorize his face... I told myself that I will preserve his image in my head because when I saw him last December in HK Airport, it was all a blur to me. It was only when I watched my video clip did I see that he was smiling when I told him “Qing ni lai, Philippines!” http://vicpower.net/asp/Skins/Default/emot/em01.gif So there I was, staring at him like an idiot! He must have felt so conscious because all I did was to stare at him!


Near the immigration area, Zai called Barbie, who was waiting for him in a corner. And then I told him, “Please come to the Philippines!” Barbie turned to me and asked me, “You’re from the Philippines?” I answered her in the affirmative and I continued staring at Zai!




In the immigration area, there was a loooong queue. Zai lined up in the Chinese Nationals area while I lined up in the Foreigners area. I couldn’t stand still because I kept on thinking, “OMG, OMG, he’s just right there!” I told the guy at my back to save my space in the line. I searched for a perfect view of him so that I could take a video. I tried to hide from Ah Juan and his PAs because I know that they don’t approve of us taking a video of him but I persisted because I want to share what I saw to my Philippine friends and also to the other fans... He kept on chatting with Barbie and he actually saw me taking a video! He must be thinking what a weird girl I am coz at first, I kept on staring at him and still I wasn’t satisfied so I took a video of him, haha! I also tried to take a picture of him but my hands were shaking too badly so I couldn't get a decent shot! However, Ah Juan finally saw me and she motioned for me to stop taking a video. I then went to the Chinese nationals area and continued looking at him! Then I told myself that I should talk to him, regardless of the fact that I can’t speak Mandarin! I approached him but I stopped because Barbie was saying something to him. When she finished, I approached them. I didn’t really practice what I was going to say to him. Everything that I was dreaming of telling him flew out of my head!



When I came up to him, at first I couldn’t look at him, haha! I looked at Barbie and said "Please come to the Philippines to promote Mars!” I knew I was speaking so fast so I looked up at him and he was looking down at me (he is soooo tall!) and I knew he didn’t understand what I was saying! So I slowly said to him “Phi-li-ppine.... Zhan Shen!” I wanted to laugh out loud because after almost a year of Mandarin classes, that’s all I was able to say!! http://vicpower.net/asp/Skins/Default/emot/em01.gif He nodded and said “Hao, hao, xie xie!” I almost died because I couldn’t believe I was able to hold his attention even for just a few minutes! Barbie then told me, “So you came all the way to the Philippines just to see him?” I said, “Yes.” Zai was smiling and then I told him, “A lot of your Filipino fans are waiting for you... It’s been more than a year since you last visited the Philippines.” He kept on nodding and smiling and saying “hao, xie xie.” I forgot the rest of what I told him. I just continued with my mumblings while he looked at me... This is the part where I knew he couldn’t understand what I was saying but it didn’t matter... I just hope that he felt the wishes of his Filipino fans who continue supporting him. After all my mumblings, I finally said my goodbyes to him and he and Barbie said “ba-bye.” Ah Juan thanked me, I don’t know why, hehe!




I returned to my position in the line and it felt so surreal... The guy at my back asked us who he is. We told him that he’s ZaiZai, an Asian superstar, a Taiwanese actor and singer and F4 member. He must be really amazed by the attention of the fans!


Flowersmile and Beijing JMs welcomed us outside the airport. They reserved a bus that would take us straight to the venue. No more hotel stops for us... We brought all our baggage inside the venue! We actually put our bags at the side of the stage! The meet & greet was very short, about half an hour only but I still enjoyed it. We were very close to the stage so instead of looking at the screen of my videocam, I just kept on staring at him! Here I am again with my staring habit, haha! I couldn’t really understand what is going on but Zai looks as if he enjoyed the event especially when the 2 kids came out and called him uncle. When the video presentation of Vicpower was being shown, he kept laughing when the kids sang “Make a Wish.”


After the meet & greet, we went to the hotel. We slept for less than 3 hours because we had to prepare for our next trip to Guangzhou. The next day (May 27 – Friday), we weren’t able to see him inside Beijing’s domestic terminal because we took a different airline. We were all so tired, lugging around our bags because we had to handcarry everything to save time.


When we arrived in Guangzhou, other HK JMs met us in the airport. We went straight to the hotel and then to the venue. We learned that Zai is staying in the same hotel but I didn’t have any hopes of seeing him inside the hotel, hehe! The meet & greet lasted for about an hour. Same with what happened in Beijing, since I couldn’t understand the language, I kept on looking at him again! When the make-out scenes in Mars were being shown, Zai’s expression was priceless! He looked so embarrassed, hehe! It was a little uncomfortable because they also showed the rape scene. After screaming so loud for Ling, everyone kept quiet during Qi Luo’s scene.



When the meet & greet ended, we went to Kentex to buy stuffs. I bought so many socks to be able to get the Kentex organizer/notebook!



We again slept for less than 3 hours so that we could arrive early in Guangzhou Airport. We were thinking that he would take either the 8:30 or 9:40 flight, but he took the 11:55 am flight! So we weren’t able to see him in Guangzhou Airport because we took the 9:40 flight to Hong Kong. When we arrived in Hong Kong, we thought of so many strategies in order to see him! Finally, we were able to wait for him in his arrival gate. His flight was delayed for about half an hour. We walked beside him again. Everyone was really quiet although many fans were behind him! I wanted to say something but I just cherished that moment of walking beside him. It was very quick because he already has a boarding pass. When he entered the gate, we all waved at him and he smiled at us and waved back. At that point, this amazing trip has finally ended.



Looking back, I will never forget the experiences that I had in Beijing, Guangzhou and Hong Kong: waiting for ZaiZai and seeing him; meeting new friends from different places... *cake blasts open, Brad Pitt comes out in his Troy costume, Freddie Prinze Jr in a dark suit from "Head over Heels", Ashton Kutcher in a 70s outfit (corduroy bellbottoms), Josh Hartnett in his military outfit from Pearl Harbor...

all dance in unison....gigolo style...

then Zai Zai comes out of the cake in his "Chen Ling" red racing outfit, sans the helmet but with the hair extensions and takes the center spot between Brad & Freddie and Josh & Ashton....they continue to dance...

then in the middle of the song's chorus...all in unison whip off they're outfits (which were only held together by velcro http://tsinoy.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif for easy stripping)!
All five men are now dancing dressed in white boxers stamped with the zaiwan logo, all supplied by mcbeal. (Zai Zai's pair was made to order http://tsinoy.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif )

After filming “Mars” I have become quite demanding and picky. I have set very high standards towards new plays. I think that those roles with light love stories should be left to the younger people. At my age I need something with more depth -- zai zai

hey there! thanks for droppin by.. hmm latest from zai.. says he;'s currently reading script for another drama with this korean actress.. still in talks for that.. but not sure if he would act in it...

as for june 15, he will be in Hong Kong (so far confirmed to go Zai, Loius Koo and Jy) for the PEPSI event.. luching of new TV commercial... there :)
