I love watching ABS shows and for me they are better..
does rating really matters? Or it's just a propaganda used by pathetics to influence others not to watch ABS shows...

You're right! as long as you're happy then watch it kasi dun ka naeentertain...isa nga yun sa purpose ng television di ba? so why bother with ratings? Sabi nga ng friend ko from AGB:

yeah I know that advertisers depend on ratings..but that's the problem of the networks..:rolleyes: Audience like US have nothing to be annoyed by the ratings..it doesn't change our taste in shows and TV stations..:cool: So, why brag about..?

ABS-CBN accused of union-busting
Manila Times Aug 27,2005

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network’s rank-and-file employees has accused its management of union busting and unfair labor practices as reflected in its massive retrenchment program.

While the employees are all set to go on strike, the National Conciliation Mediation Board has scheduled a meeting between the two parties on Monday.

Roberto Andres, union president, said his group chose to continue with its protests, such as a regular noise barrage during lunch break.

“We have a continuing mobile noise barrage around the outside perimeters of ABS-CBN every lunch break. We hope to have Father Robert Reyes to lead an interfaith prayer today,” Andres told The Manila Times in a text message Friday.

With its significant profit drop incurred this year, the Lopez media firm is conducting retrenchment and streamlining program in all departments.

In a previous interview, Maria Ressa, ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs division head, said that retrenchment would continue until the end of August or September.

Thirty-five employees under Ressa’s division were axed a few months ago.

“This was a streamlining necessary because the company was bleeding money. If you don’t cut costs, you won’t survive,” Ressa said in a previous press conference.

ABS-CBN has announced that early retirement packages would be given to employees to cut costs. It would also avoid exclusive contracts with talents to preclude higher costs.

These initiatives were undertaken due to the bleak economic conditions that the firm is expecting this year during its annual stockholders’ meeting Friday.

Eugenio Lopez 3rd, ABS-CBN chair, told reporters that current economic conditions would be put pressure on the firm’s bottomline this year.

Kaya pala masyadong madaming negative writeups against ABS-CBN's Pinoy Big Brother kasi threatened ang GMA 7 sa show, dahil ang katapat nitong Sugo, talent fee pa lang ni Richard Gutierrez, kapag nadikitan sa ratings, talo sila! 2 million per week pala ang talent fee nito! Compared sa Pinoy Big Brother na 128 million ang total na dapat gagastusin sa show, kaso dahil sa sponsors na mga funitures and appliances, mas mababa pa ito sa 128 million!

Its now 2005, and its been ten years since the ABS-GMA rivalry went full blast. Its amazing how viewers in the last half of a generation got so fixated with arguing with each other over numbers that are not useful to them.

I'm beginning to think that the people who are fiercely defending the ratings of their favorite shows have no other agenda in their lives than to eat, drink and breathe broadcast television.

But guys, time for some wake-up call in your endless Kapamilya-Kapuso mudslinging. Time to realize the following facts:

1.) ABS-CBN's bottomline has been severely hit by the prolonged economic downturn that we have. In 1Q 2005, the mother company hit the red for the first time in more than 50 years of its history. Partly to blame is the hiring of wrong people to the President/COO position (formerly held by Freddie Garcia, now handled by a former Kraft Foods brand executive, a line far far away from broadcasting).

2.) The threat of a massive strike at the network's main fortress in Bohol Ave. is REAL, due to the massive retrenchments done recently. Anytime soon, interruptions in regular programming may be experienced. We may not see it now, but if the network's no. 2 position in Mega Manila will persist, the possibility is not remote.

3.) Channel 2's acquisition of "Pinoy Big Brother" is the network's biggest "gamble" to date. If this show still loses after 5 weeks, the network will "bleed" severely in their profits for the first time in its more than 50 year history.

4.) Ever since Maria Ressa took over ABS-CBN's News and Current Affairs division, the network's news programs have been struggling over their "credibility" problem due to the owners' association with the current political dispensation. Ms. Ressa came at a wrong time, but her expertise is badly needed. And she needs to rework on the concept of "tabloid journalism", that "TV Patrol World" invented more than 18 years ago, because more and more viewers said that the news items in the program are sounding "more and more like a news entertainment program than a serious newscast".

5.) Recycling of programs and celebrities are becoming more evident at the network. Vice-President Noli de Castro returned to "Magandang Gabi Bayan", because the show is suffering seriously at this point. This despite Kabayan's now busy schedule with the Filipino people. And a famous radio soap of theirs from the late '40s, which was turned into a '70s top TV drama on a Benedicto-controlled Channel 2 is poised to revive soon.

Far from the facade of still being the "most-watched" television network in the country, inside ABS-CBN today, many of its employees, including its talents, are fearing for their job security nowadays. Gabby Lopez' painful consequences for his propensity to favor big money above value and conviction is about to go full steam against him. And he better be prepared for it much. Rough times are about to set in for his family due to his companies' continued high profile image.

Nakapagtatakang panay paninira nga ang naririnig naming comment ng mga mismong kapamilya ng PBB, at kung may positive feedback ay ‘yung mismong mga taong involved sa programa.

Pero may magandang pangyayari pala kapag nasusulat ng negative dahil binabago ang mga palpak, tulad ng boses daw ngayon ni Big Brother, hindi na raw malamya, kundi matigas na as in kuya na talaga siya at hindi na sister.

Dahil ba sa mga negative feedbacks ng Pinoy Big Brother kaya dedma lang si Richard Gutierrez nu’ng hingan siya ng comment na magkatapat na ang telefantasya niyang Sugo at ang reality show ng ABS-CBN?

"Hindi naman sa dedma, I want to think na okey siya, it’s a new concept and may pressure rin naman maski paano sa amin. Kaya lang, kumportable ako sa team namin, the Sugo team is doing their best para mas lalong mapaganda ang show, so siguro hindi ko lang pinapansin kung anuman ‘yung katapat namin.

"Actually, sa sasakyan na lang ako natutulog minsan, kasi after ng Sugo taping, diretso naman kami sa Mulawin, The Movie, so mahirap talaga, pero okey naman, kayanin dapat," nakangiti pa ring kuwento ng actor.

At kaya naman niya nakakayanan ang lahat ay dahil "kumpleto ako sa vitamins, food ko, kumpleto rin, if I have time, I go to the gym to exercise, to keep me fit, tumatakbo rin ako para alive lagi, actually kung may pagkakataon, talagang natutulog ako para makabawi."

Pero hindi nangangahulugang wala na siyang time sa lovelife niya, ‘yun nga lang, ayaw pag-usapan ni Richard ang tungkol sa kanila ni Georgina Wilson, ang commercial model na girlfriend niya.

Umatras pala ang Toyota bilang sponsor sa anniversary episode ng Extra Challenge na nakatakdang ipalabas this week na ang tema ay amazing race.

At dahil umatras na nga ang nabanggit na car company ay malinaw na tig-isang milyon na lang ang matatanggap ng first prize.

Not actually nag- away. In the previous episodes, Uma was assigned as the "king" of the group. He asked Cass and the other girls to dance like lesbians. Uma said Cass seems enjoy what she did. When Say was asked to do the same, she cried, she told Uma she don't do that. Cass overreacted and blame Uma for his challenge. Nakakabastos daw. At first, Raquel was seen enjoying what the girls has been doing. When Say cried, she also cried. Parang sinabi ni Uma na Cass and Raquel had crocodile tears.

i have this feeling na lahat ng korean dramas ng dos ung mga upcoming pa lang mapupunta sa sat & sun (ung time slot ng save your last dance rewind nila) tapos ang mga rewind dun na sa timeslot ng 10am (katulad ng oh feel young diba? rewind na cy)...

i don't know about this pero may mga upcoming kasi sila na series/drama na dapat talaga primetime yung slot eh. so i hope na nagkamali lang ako ng palagay

Psychologists usually isolate a group to study their behaviors. just like Sigmund Freud, he started his study on the different behaviors of his subjects starting from prenatal to senescence (old age) and this we call now Developmental Psychology.

"Big Brother" is a character from the novel of George Orwell entitled 1984. At the time it was written in the 1940s I think, the totalitarian states have started to gain power (USSR, Germany, Red China) and there was a trend towards making individuals secondary to the society. Baka magalit ang mga sociologists pero parang gunun. Orwell's setting for his novel is in the year 1984 where people has no privacy and their lives are totallu controlled by the State. May ganyan din novel si Milan Kundera, medyo similar, yung The Joke. Going back to 1984, dun sa novel, nagkalat ang slogan kahit saan which says "Big Brother is watching you!" Yung isa sa mga bida sa novel, meron syan friend who made a comment against the present system. As a result, the person was wiped out and all traces that he ever existed was gone. They are not even allowed to talk about him. Maybe I should read the novel again. College ko pa yun nabasa at medyo matagal na yun. =)

I read in the PBB website that psychologists are available all the time for the housemates, which is good. If this was a psych experiment, the housemates upon evistion should be debriefed. Pero let's not forget that PBB is primarily for entertainment so enjoy natin. =)

I'm sorry to break the news that Hero Angeles has been released from the Star Circle roster, and his contract with ABS ends on September 30 this year. From a news release I have read somewhere yesterday. His legal spat with a showbiz reporter caused him to distance from ABS.

ONE thing we admire about ABS-CBN is the way they produce a teleserye and present it to televiewers. In cast and in scope, it is like they are producing a full-length movie.

In "Vietnam Rose" which premieres Sept. 19, quality and authenticity become the primary concern of everyone involved in the production. Key scenes were shot in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam as it traces the family roots of Yeu (played by Maricel Soriano), a Vietnamese refugee who transformed herself into Carina Mojica dela Cerna, a successful businesswoman married to an equally powerful man.

Joel Lamangan, who directs the sweeping drama, feels proud of the fact that the entire cast met the challenge of transforming themselves into the characters they are playing.

Can lead star Maricel Angelica Panganiban. Soriano say "no" to Joel? No way. She is what Hilda Koronel was to the late Lino Brocka. Theirs is a combination already tested at the box-office.

Rosa Rosal, the original femme fatale (during the LVN days) says, "Kahit ano pa ang ginagawa ko ay bibitawan ko kung si Joel ang director."

In "Vietnam Rose," she plays the mother of John Estrada. Jay Manalo, Angelica Panganiban, AJ Dee and Maricel play characters that are 100-percent Vietnamese.

Angelica took pains learning how to speak Vietnamese and admits it wasn't that easy. In the story, she plays Tin, half-sister of Maricel.

Well, tpos na rin ang Episode 1 ng Vietnam Rose, well here r my comments

1. Wala ako masay sa performance ng ating diamond star and the rest of the actors/actresses. Good Job!

2. About the graphics, well some scenes are good, some are not, mejo kadistract kase especially the flying doves na dumapo sa van (heller pwede ba un?) saka ung mga butterflies after mamatay ung mommy(mejo exaggerated to) SUPERB scene naman ung garden sequence, ok cia, especially the falling leaves....well congrats din sa effects team kase alam ko mahirap talaga gawin ung mga birds, etc...sana lng ilagay minsan sa lugar...

3. Sana ayusin din ung sounds, especially dun sa opening part, lakas ng mga background vietnamese chimes....pero all in all okey naman...

-maganda ang Vietnam Rose, breakthrough na rin cia sa filipino telenovelas, sana lng magclick to!!!!

i've also seen the Panday Teaser 2, eto talaga na-amaze ako sa mga fighting movements ni echo....ginaya nila siguro ung fighting scenes ng Troy. Astig ung hinahagis ung sword parang boomerang...mukang may laban talga ang PAnday! gwapo pa ni echo!!!

I agree with you. That's because they are cost-cutting. And in case you still don't know, dahil din sa cost-cutting nila, some of their employees are also been laid off, mostly the support staff. Yes, you read it right there. Like it or not, matamlay na ngayon ang ABS pagdating sa finances nila. They really weren't the same as some years back.

errrr..have you read professional reviews? cno bng nagsabeng tight ang budget ng vietnam rose, pinagkagastusan nga ito..and the reactions of people regarding its quality after the pilot episode is shown tells us that it is such a quality drama..

Vietnam Rose is not on fantasy, yet, mas maganda p nga ang effects nito kaysa sa Sugo..(very funny)

Panday's coming, I've seen the teaser..we'll just have to wait and be awed ny this production..

I think ABS-CBN for the past 2 years had been loosing money. Pero according to some kug gagawa lang sila ng asianovela dapat co-production na lang sana with other countries para pupuwedeng pang-export to other Asian countries.

Just like what Korea had been doing with China and Japan
