Ernest Lorenzo "Enchong" Dee, born November 5, 1988, is a Filipino actor, model, and champion swimmer, best known for his role as 'Blue Mangubat' in the Philippine youth-oriented show, "Star Magic Presents: Abt Ur Luv".

Dee's first TV apperance came in 2006 when he appeared in a popular Philippine talk show "Homeboy" as one of the guests. He caught the eye of a modeling agency and advertisers and soon he appeared in several big campaigns including "Bench", "Globe", "KFC" and "Timex."

Dee's promising career took off when he landed several acting roles in 2007 such as "Sineserye", "Komiks: Pedro Penduko at ang mga Engkantao" and "Abt Ur Luv" book 1 and 2. He will soon star in the much-anticipated fantasy comedy series, "Lastikman", about a superhero who has the ability to stretch, and the ability to mold himself into any other object.

Lady boss knows where to go–just don’t rush her

MANILA, Philippines - The first person she broke the news to was her husband, Cesar.

“He was so overwhelmed with happiness―for me―that he cried on the phone,” Charo Santos-Concio tells Inquirer Entertainment as she recalls the evening she was declared the new president of multimedia giant ABS-CBN.

And the first ones who called to congratulate her? “The production people. I have worked with many of them for 20 years―writers, directors, production crew…”

Charo (or “CSC”) is not the first woman in the country, but certainly the first beauty titlist (Baron Travel Girl 1976-77), and the first award-winning actress (1978 Asian Film Festival in Sydney, for “Itim”), to become president of a major network. She finds parallels in those crowning moments. “The same feeling of lightness, joy, triumph.”

The announcement on Feb. 29, effective March 1, wasn’t completely unexpected. “Gabby (Eugenio Lopez III, chair and CEO), had been sounding me off. And also, the organization really has a succession plan in place. But I didn’t know about the exact timing, until it was announced at the end of the last management conference.”

She didn’t mind the element of surprise at all because, until then, her mindset was, “Nothing’s final until it’s final.”

These days, Charo is “very grateful” for the “energy” that she is receiving from within the network. “I hope I’m right about this feeling,” she says, “that many people in the organization are happy about my appointment.”

Harvard preparation

Last year, she went to Harvard for the Advance Management Program. As the industry buzz went―since she was apparently next in line―it was, indeed, a preparation.

Charo says the two-month course gives participants a bird’s eye view of management tools that an executive needs to manage a bigger organization. “The areas covered are marketing, information, negotiations. But at its core is leadership,” she notes. “You may be a technical expert in finance or marketing strategies and still not have the right values in place.”

She’s the first to admit that she needed the Harvard training. “My background is content production and I do know about projects and revenues, profits and losses. But it’s like, I was familiar with the dots, and that advance program taught me how to connect the dots. And to add on more dots.”

Her two secretaries agree that the lady boss is a “very hard worker” for whom 16-hour days are not unusual.

“Well, yes, that I’ve always been, especially when I was just starting,” Charo, 52, says. “And even now, if there’s urgent business to get done, I stay until midnight. If I have a meeting with Gabby, I’m here at 8 a.m. But on a regular basis, I come in at 10. Production personnel report at noon and work till the wee hours. So there’s a lot more activity in the afternoon, onwards. Previews are often scheduled in the evening. That’s not everyday, but back when I was very hands-on in production, I could go for three days with very little sleep.”

Meaning, she went home just to shower and change. “Cesar witnessed all that. Thus, he feels that my appointment is a well-deserved reward. His support has been such, that he often told me in the past, ‘Before you are a wife or mother, Charo, you are a person. You should pursue your dreams.’ Cesar is my rock.”

Home from the management conference in Antipolo, the couple celebrated with a “simple dinner at home” with their two sons, Cesar Francis and Raphael Martin.

Back at work, Charo has moved from her office as executive vice president and entertainment group head, to the office, a suite that consists of a reception area, its own monitoring room and the office proper. Since March 1, this corner of the building has been abloom and fragrant with fresh flowers.

Still immersing

Industry observers are eager to know what changes, big or small, are forthcoming under her stewardship. For example, the new big boss has always had a foot firmly in entertainment; would there soon be a shift in the ratio of news/current affairs to variety shows and other talent-heavy productions, at least in the network’s free TV, Channel 2?

Charo’s reply is lengthy and thoughtful: “I’m not rushing things; I’m still immersing in the other units’ operations. Channel 2 is simply the biggest, the parent, of these units. The subsidiaries’ requirements are much smaller in scale. Still, I need the immersion because I’ll be working on streamlining the operations to bring down the costs some more, while maintaining content supremacy.”

Should streamlining here read “reorganization”?

“It just means I want the organization to implement more cost-efficient processes. Also, I’m keeping abreast of emerging technology because I’d like to tap new blood in this area. I also want to conduct skills and competence training for writers, directors and other production people.”

She continues: “Sometimes people think we’re just free TV. But ABS-CBN is not just Channel 2. In fact, we’re no longer just a broadcasting company. We have evolved into a multimedia content company. We are into all the platforms―publishing, interactive, cable, cinema, radio, global TV, records. With merging technologies, the world will soon go digital, and we’re going with the flow. By the end of the year, we hope to launch digital television. Our engineering and corporate planning teams have laid the groundwork and, by June, we should be testing some areas.”

The Filipino Channel (TFC), Charo adds, has gone IP (Internet Protocol). “We going directly to the customers now, via subscription, because [we feel that] advertising revenues have maxed out. Locally, digital TV is also designed to go directly to the customers.”

As for the ratio of entertainment to news/current affairs, she says, “It will depend on the competitive landscape, which I always take into consideration. When a news program is up against an entertainment program, usually the entertainment program wins in terms of audience share. So if you look at the programming grid, news programs are in more or less the same time slots, and the same is true with variety shows, et cetera.”

Even if she wanted to increase the number of news/current affairs programs, she says, “I wouldn’t know where to put them. In the mean time, we have a full news channel, ANC, which takes care of the viewers’ need for fresh information and in-depth analysis of issues.”

In any case, Charo says, “Even in the so-called entertainment aspect, we mirror real life in a lot of the programs. For instance, ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’ tackles subject matters that occasionally invite the attention of the MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board). But life is not all happy and joyful; there is a dark side to it that we also have to show. All told, what should be imparted to the audience is how one can triumph over that dark side.”

Learning fast

She concedes that news operations is an area that she wants to “understand better.”

Charo explains, “I’m not a news person, strictly speaking. So I’m immersing myself in that aspect. I want to get to know the numbers really well. And I’m learning fast. In production, and in other units that are content-heavy, I’m okay.”

Indeed, shows on the opposite side of news/current affairs―and their audiences― she discusses with unflinching authority.

“I support shows that enrich the lives of viewers; I’d like to think that our shows do that. The qualitative surveys we have conducted indicate that our audience looks for empowered characters, for affirmation. These viewers are not the desperate kind; they are hopeful for change. This means that our shows are able to connect to strong-character types, exactly the types that the shows present. They are self-reliant, and rarely prone to saying, ‘Bahala na.’”

Beyond empowered, Charo says, viewers in this sector are more critical than most. “If we divert from material that they’re used to, if we present something that pushes creative license, they react. They demand logic. Remember that we’re also addressing a global audience that is exposed to high standards of entertainment and news/current affairs programming in other countries. This global audience is discerning and every-ready to say its piece when it’s not happy about where the programs are going … and these people do. We get so much e-mail.”

The local counterpart of that global audience, loyal to practically the same shows, are not necessarily in the ABC bracket.

“Economic stations do not matter,” Charo insists, “in the service of the Filipino―which is our corporate mission. When I talk to the producers, directors, writers and talents, I tell them, ‘If, for one moment we made the desperate and the hopeless find meaning in life despite their [difficulties], we have served our audience well. If we are able to make a person look inside herself through the story of a mother who rises above all obstacles for the love of her children, then we have touched their lives, and that’s service, too.”

Service, Charo clarifies, includes respect. “And so I also tell them there should be no place for mediocrity in our shows, otherwise we are not being sensitive to all of the viewers’ needs.”

She gives the Sunday variety extravaganza ASAP as an example. “A talent cannot just show up that morning and join a production number. Bawal ang hindi nag-rehearse the day before. I tell them, ‘You owe the public the best performance of your life. Every week. I cringe when I see a dancer who’s not in sync with the other dancers, or a singer who cannot lip sync his/her own number. Recorded na nga e, dapat naman, masasabayan nang maayos. They can’t be perfect all the time, true. So I keep reminding them.”

Woman power

Asked what her position means for women power in the country, Charo takes a rather long pause. Before she replies, she mentions that another woman, Kitchie Benedicto, was president of KBS 9 (Kanlaon Broadcasting System) during the Marcos years.

“I’d like to think,” she proceeds, “that gender was not a factor in management’s decision. But, well, a woman has certain built-in strengths. Women pay more attention to detail, for one thing. I myself don’t work with set formulas. Also, it seems natural to me, as a woman, that I realize I’m dealing with human beings here, basically. Talents, for instance, go through different phases of maturity at different times. I have to be sensitive to each one’s growing-up phases, struggles, frustrations, dreams, pains, insecurities.

Sounds more like a religious mission than a job description.

“Gabby says I’m too nurturing,” Charo says, laughing. “Maybe I am, but I’m also a disciplinarian. I exact excellence and I can dispense tough love. Magalit ka na sa akin ngayon, kasi tinuturuan kita. I guess I am able to say it in a calm way, but I say it anyway. And I find that people, well, they respond, they toe the line.

The movie fan

Apart from hard work, she says one other thing has kept her on track: “I’ve always been a movie fan. As a teenager, my dream was just to enter the premises of ABS-CBN. During school break in the summer, I would come to Manila from Mindoro, and queue up at the gate on Scout Esguerra. I would call out to the guard, ‘May tiyo po ako rito (Jimmy Navarro, program director pre-Martial Law), please naman, papasukin n’yo ako.’ I just wanted to watch ‘Stop, Look and Listen’ live.”

Obviously, the memory has stirred up feelings, too. “Totoo ’yun!” Charo says, her voice at least two notes higher. “I’ve been a fan of ABS-CBN all my life. Pinanood ko lahat ng top hits dito―‘Tang Tarang Tang,’ ‘Buhay Artista,’ ‘Magandang Tanghali’ of the late Pancho Magalona, ‘An Evening With Pilita,’ ‘The Nida-Nestor Show’… lahat!”

So, did the guard let her in?

“No. I finally went through the gate when I was a senior Mass Comm student of St. Paul College. Nag-practicum ako right in this same building. During Martial Law, I landed a job as production assistant on ‘John En Marsha.’ KBS na noon, wala na ang Lopezes, and the Benedictos had taken over. That was when I met Dolphy. Nag-PA din ako sa ‘Mr. Public Service’ ni Tony Santos Sr.”

Financial performance

She’s happy to say that ABS-CBN “hit P1.2 billion last year.” In 2006, she says, earnings were pegged at P700 million. She attributes the “jump” to increased synergy among production, sales and marketing.

She explains: “There was more creativity in revenue-generation. For example, a 30-seconder spot is no longer good enough for advertisers. So now we have what is referred to as product intrusions. To illustrate, in ‘Maging Sino Ka Man,’ John Lloyd Cruz, who endorses Biogesic, has this scene with Chin Chin Gutierrez, where she gets a headache. John Lloyd very casually hands her a tablet and says, ‘Eto po, magaling ’yan.’ Or something to that effect. He doesn’t even mention the brand name. The client was very happy with that. But the execution should be seamless. The concept is very much like in James Bond movies, halimbawa, pag pinapakita ’yung mga BMW or Seiko watches. Very casual, hindi hard sell.”

She says the product intrusions carry their own price tags, “because the client gets a lot more exposure.”

Another growth driver was global subscriptions. “Today, 40 percent of revenues come from these subscriptions,” Charo says. Dati, 100 percent, all from advertising. We see the ratio going 50-50, eventually, especially now that we’re offering varied content to specific market niches. We have products for the young, we have a lifestyle channel for women, and so on. The ultimate challenge is to deliver content that will satisfy all these niches.”

This year, the parent platform, Channel 2, is still bound to generate the biggest revenue. “But we have encouraging projections for digital TV, once it rolls out,” Charo says.

Rewarding diversion

“Nalihis ang buhay ko [in broadcast],” she recounts, “nung naging Baron Travel Girl ako. That was when Lino Brocka saw me. He called me right the next morning. Sabi niya, ganito, tuloy-tuloy, ‘You don’t know me but I saw you in the contest last night. I am Lino Brocka. My friend, Mike de Leon wants to cast a new face for the lead role in his first directorial job. Would you care to audition? Punta ka sa LVN bukas, 8 o’clock.”

That film feature was the memorable “Itim.” She would spend a good number of years in the movies. Charo reminisces: “Other projects followed, in the movies, and also on television. But my heart was still in production work. I was cast in a lot of Armida Siguion-Reyna’s television projects―‘Ilaw ng Tahanan’ and ‘Mga Kuwento ng Pag-Ibig.’ Favorite guest yata niya ako e. Maybe because I was always very punctual; she liked that. I observed everything she did as producer. ‘I can do that,’ I said to myself.”

In 1981, she got her break with Bancom Audiovision. For her first project, she worked as line producer on “Kisapmata,” again with Mike de Leon. She was also in the lead cast. “I am the only surviving member of that cast,” Charo says. “I worked with Charito Solis, Ruben Rustia, Vic Silayan, Jay Ilagan―ang gagaling nila! They won all the acting awards in the Manila Film Festival that year. Ako lang ang hindi nanalo. It’s true. The movie swept all the awards except Best Actress, which went to Vilma Santos for ‘Karma.’ It didn’t matter to me naman because, as line producer, I was very, very proud; it was my baby.”

She turns wistful. “When I think that all of them are gone … I realize, ’di ba, maybe I have a mission.”

A viewer’s POV

Even now, the network president says, she watches TV programs from the perspective of an ordinary viewer. “The movie fan’s POV (point of view) still resonates with me. I swoon over love teams,” she admits, suppressing a giggle (in vain). “I have a strong sense of who will make a good love team. I get kilig over the pairing of John Lloyd and Bea Alonzo.”

It’s no secret, either, that “Ma’am Charo” has always had a soft spot for Piolo Pascual. Asked who she thinks is the perfect screen partner for Piolo, aside from herself (this interview has been punctuated with crackling laughter from both sides of the exchange, but none so crisp as the one that follows this question), she holds up a cupped palm to her face and takes a moment. “I see very good chemistry at work between Piolo and Angel Locsin,” she says at last.

Little wonder then, that her current favorite show is the duo’s “Lobo.” She feels out of sorts, she says, when she misses an episode. She is assured that she doesn’t have to, but she explains, “I don’t feel this way about all of Piolo’s shows. I just really like the way the story is evolving. And it’s very different from the other series that we’ve done. Also, I really think it appeals to the young. Medyo meron pa akong dugong bagets.”

Another favorite is ASAP. Also “Wowowee.” She reveals, “When I’m stressed, I go to ‘Wowowee’ when it’s airing, even for just one gap. Nawawala ang pagod ko.”

Main mentors

Charo has long realized that she’s good at what she does as “both a creative and production person.” But the possibility of landing on the very top of network operations was sparked 11 years ago, when the late Eugenio “Geny” Lopez Jr., president and CEO at the time, verbalized it. She remembers it well. “That was in 1996, about two years before he passed on, and it was during a cocktail party where he announced the promotion of Gabby as CEO and Freddie M. Garcia as president. Geny was looking at me when he said, “I think, several years from now, ABS-CBN will be ready for a woman president.”

She remembers going beyond thrilled, if only because he believed in her. “Even if the old man (also called ‘Kapitan’) didn’t see me everyday pala, he appreciated what I had been doing for the network. Though he often called execom meetings, he wasn’t involved in day-to-day operations. But I should have known that he was sensitive in that way. Every Christmas, he would personally hand us our bonuses.”

The Kapitan is top candidate for Charo’s best mentor in people skills. There are familiar names on that cherished list of professional influences. “Mike de Leon was my first teacher,” she says. “While I was still his artista, he would invite me to watch post-production work. He taught me the basics of editing. I think he saw how interested I was, and also that I was a good student.”

Lily Monteverde taught her “the commercial side” of movie production. “Alam mo naman ang mga pelikula ko, hindi tipong blockbusters.” There’s also Freddie Garcia, Gabby, Jake Almeda Lopez (Geny’s best friend and general manager before Martial Law) and the late Rolando V. Cruz (assistant general manager in Freddie Garcia’s time). “Everything I know about television, I learned from them,” Charo says.

Patience, a virtue

But it’s not as though she sailed gently through 20 years (she joined the network in 1987). Cesar, whom she married in 1982, has been such a pillar of strength precisely because she needed one at landmark points in her career.

“One such time was when we lost the ratings in Mega Manila (last quarter of 2004) after 17 years of being number 1,” Charo relates. “When you’re a creative person, your work is an extension of yourself. Losing our audience share felt to me like a rejection of my whole being. It was a big blow to my self-worth.”

She got out of the slump by confronting her fears, she says, “by being honest about where I was wanting, and then buckling down to work.” The worst part of that episode, she looks back, was that she panicked. “I was adjusting to a new environment. Mr. Garcia had retired and I had no one to run to, no buffer. The buck stopped with me. Nataranta ako. I made panic calls that did not help the situation at all.”

“Panic,” she says, this woman who makes it a point to speak softly as a matter of course, slowly when the situation requires, sweetly whenever possible.

“Actually, I managed to stay calm on the surface … so calm, that at times I felt catatonic. I didn’t throw ash trays at people, you know ... but I was not sure about my calls and I stopped following my instincts because I started doubting my judgment. You know how it happens? You blame everyone when, in fact, you just got scared.”

Gabby, humingi ng tawad kay Sharon Cuneta By: Vinia Vivar TULAD ng naunang kumalat na text message kahapon ng umaga from ABS-CBN insiders, live nga ang interview ng The Buzz kay Gabby Concepcion yesterday afternoon matapos siyang lumapag sa Pilipinas pagkatapos ng 13 years kahapon din ng madaling-araw.

Sa studio, halos maluha si Gabby sa napakainit na pagtanggap sa kanya ng mga tao and all throughout the interview, may mga luhang namumuo sa kanyang mga mata.

Umuwing Kapamilya si Gabby. Isang bagay na ipinagtaka ng lahat since ang negosasyon niya na gumawa ng pelikula ay sa GMA Films.

Sa interview, kinumpirma ng aktor na may mga gagawin siyang pelikula sa Star Cinema, teleserye sa ABS-CBN at Maalaala Mo Kaya guesting.

Pero nilinaw din niya na nais pa rin niyang matuloy ang negosasyong pelikula with GMA Films. May mga conflict lang daw sa movie with Jolina Magdangal, pero inu-honor pa rin daw niya ang commitment niya sa nasabing film outfit.

Tinanong ni Boy Abunda kung totoo na kaya niya tinanggihan ang movie with Jolina ay dahil sa hindi nakasentro sa kanya ang kuwento at ayon sa comebacking actor, maraming kadahilanan.

“Kung ito nga ay magiging comeback, it has to be a comeback. Kung hindi ko magiging comeback, bakit ko gagawin? “Ang sinasabi ko lang is, babalik ako, eh. Ano ang tawag mo ru’n kung babalik ako?” sabi ni Gabby, na in a way, sinasabing a better project will do.

Nilinaw din ng aktor na ang kanyang ama na si Rolly Concepcion ang unang dahilan ng kanyang pag-uwi. May sakit daw ito sa puso at hindi niya mapapatawad ang sarili kung may mangyari rito.

Napakaraming offers na dumating sa kanya habang nasa Amerika siya, pero tinanggihan niya.

“Nu’ng umalis ako nu’ng 1995, nilagay ko na sa likod ko ’yun. Sabi ko, I think I need to move on, hindi naman lahat ng tao, eh, magiging successful sa showbiz and I felt that I had my time. Thirteen years was enough, sabi ko and I did move on. Nu’ng umalis ako, nag-decide na ako na hindi na ako babalik.”

Pero, dumami raw ang dahilan kung bakit kinailangan niyang umuwi sa ’Pinas at unang-una na nga ay ang kondisyon ng ama.

Inamin din ni Gabby na ayaw na niya sanang bumalik sa Pilipinas dahil sa maraming masasakit na pangyayari. Excited daw siya at kinakabahan habang pa-landing ang eroplano niya.

Napag-usapan din sa interview si Sharon Cuneta and of course, ang anak na si KC. He was asked kung sa tingin ba niya ay may mga issue siyang dapat i-settle with the Megastar.

“Hindi pa kami nag-uusap ng talagang one-on-one, but I don’t think there is a need for that dahil ilang beses na rin kaming nag-usap noong nasa Amerika ako, nu’ng nandu’n si KC at napag-usapan na rin namin lahat.”

May galit ba sa kanya si Sharon?

“Meron nga ba?” balik-tanong niya. “Siguro, sa mga naririnig natin noon, may galit siya sa akin. But that’s all in the past. So, eto, sasabihin ko, kung anuman ang kasalanang nagawa ko sa kanya o sa kahit na kanino, nandirito ako para humingi ng pagpapatawad,” dagdag pa ng aktor.

Tinanong din si Gabby ni Boy kung sino ang gusto niyang makasama sa kanyang mga gagawing project at iisa ang sigaw ng lahat – Si Sharon. Sinegundahan naman agad ito ng aktor.

“Sharon has been part of my life. Of course, I’d like to do a movie with her. I’d love to do a movie with KC, she’s my daughter. Sharon is the mother of my daughter and it would be nice if we could do something together, but of course, maraming intrigang papasok diyan. Katulad nga ng sabi ni Sharon, paglalaruan lang. Pero kung maiiwasan natin ’yun, ako, why not? You know, gumawa tayo, pakita natin sa tao tutal ’yun ang gusto nila,” anang aktor.

Kung sa intriga, wala raw problema sa kanya dahil handa raw siyang harapin ang lahat ng ito dahil wala raw siyang itinatago.

“Ang buhay ko, bukas sa tao. Lahat ng intriga, eto, nakadikit sa buntot ko. Kasama ako sa showbiz. Kasama ang intriga sa buhay ko. Kaya kung titirahin ako, I’m very open to it,” he said.

Sa ngayon, hindi pa rin daw niya alam kung hanggang kailan siya mananatili ng Pilipinas dahil may obligasyon din siya sa Amerika, pero base sa sinabi niyang mga proyekto, mukhang desidido na nga siya talagang balikan ang pag-aartista.

TV Patrol World's 'refreshed' look coming Monday

TV Patrol World, the flagship news broadcast of ABS-CBN, unveils its new "refreshed" look on Monday even as it retains its most popular segments and fulfills its mission to provide accurate, relevant, hard-hitting and timely news reports.

"[We'll] be giving it a new look... The viewers can expect a new set," Luchi Cruz-Valdez, ABS-CBN Broadcasting's vice president for news operations, told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

Valdez said when Patrol junkies tune it to the news broadcast on Monday at 6:30 p.m., they will be seeing a brand new OBB (opening billboard) with new and more catchy graphics, but still with the red, green and blue hues identified with ABS-CBN.

The news executive said the new OBB of TV Patrol World will replace the old one which has been used for the past three years.

TV Patrol World was launched in 2005 with Karen Davila, Henry Omaga-Diaz and Julius Babao as anchors.

In 2006, Ted Failon replaced Omaga-Diaz in TV Patrol World after the latter was assigned to the late night news program, Bandila.

The new look is accompanied by slight changes in Patrol's segments, particularly the "most popular" Citizen Patrol. Valdez said news executives are planning to "reformulate" the segment and air it twice or thrice a week.

Citizen Patrol showcases citizen journalism where news viewers are given a chance to tell their stories themselves on national TV.

The other popular segments, "Weather Weather Lang" of Kuya Kim Atienza, and Star Patrol anchored by Phoemela Baranda will be retained.

The sports segment, Valdez said, will be "stronger" with Sports Unlimited's Dyan Castillejo.

TV Patrol, the longest running Filipino primetime newscast, pioneered the fast-paced style of news delivery in the Philippines.

Nagtataka lang ako kung bakit sa Channel 2 si Gabo unang lumabas. Kung saan may special interview pa siya sa The Buzz. Samantalang maliwanag pa sa sikat ng araw na pumirma na ito sa GMA 7.

At kung ang sinasabi ng ibang tao na kesyo sa GMA Films lang kuno siya pumirma. Aba eh ang hina namang maka-pick –up ng tagapagtanggol ni Gabo. Dahil kahit sabihin mong ke mapa-GMA Films lang yan o mapa-TV o anu pa man, ang punto rito ay sakop lahat ito ng GMA.

Kaso ang hindi alam ng nagha-handle sa kanyang si Rose Flaminiano na tumanggap na si Gabby ng advance payment na P1M sa GMA. Eh nagtataka lang ako kung bakit mas inuna pa niyang dalhin si Gabby sa ABS-CBN.

Hindi tuloy maitatago ang malaking galit ni Rose sa GMA nung minsang hindi siya mapagbigyan sa hinihingi nitong time slot nung isang taon.

Hayyyy, hindi dapat pinaiiral ang personal na galit pagdating sa trabaho. Kundi ang tawag ng professionalism tsk tsk tsk.

So malamang na ang pagkakaudlot din ng paggawa sana ng movie ni Gabby sa GMA Films eh may bahid din ng pagganti ng manager niya ngayon?

Sa dami ng mga aasikasuhin ni Gabby, dapat isa na rito ang masinsinan niyang pakikipag-usap sa GMA once and for all para maayos na ang lahat.

At maliwanagan na rin ang kung anu-anong ispekulasyon at nang hindi rin naman naiiwan sa ere ang mga taong umaasa sa kanya.

MANILA, Philippines -- Gabby Concepcion will soon become a “kapamilya” as part of the ABS-CBN roster of talents, the actor announced in ABS-CBN footage aired over the show biz talk show “The Buzz”, when he arrived in Manila Sunday morning after a 13-year hiatus leading a private life in the United States.

Concepcion’s new manager, film producer Rose Flaminiano, also confirmed this in a separate taped interview with “The Buzz.”

Details of any concrete agreements however were not yet disclosed.

In a live interview over “The Buzz” on Sunday, Concepcion said he had “made peace” with former wife Sharon Cuneta and would “look forward” to a film project with her and daughter KC Concepcion.

He also disclosed reconciling with former talent manager Lolit Solis before the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight in Las Vegas when she approached and greeted him. Solis was named in City of Manila charges as the mastermind of the 1994 Manila Film Fest scam, in which he and Ruffa Gutierrez were wrongly given acting awards. Concepcion left for the U.S. the following year “to start a new life,” he told “The Buzz” on Sunday.

Accompanied by Flaminiano, Concepcion greeted reporters at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport arrival area and said he was in the country to visit his ailing father and attend KC’s birthday celebration. While he announced his upcoming deal with ABS-CBN, he said there were no definite plans yet on his show biz comeback.

Concepcion was supposed to play the lead male character in a GMA Films project to be shot in Europe but backed out after he allegedly did not like the script. According to GMA Films president Annette Gozon-Abrogar, Concepcion is still under contract with film company.

Concepcion said in “The Buzz” interview on Sunday said that he would honor the commitment despite his upcoming deal with ABS-CBN, GMA’s rival network.

Gabby Concepcion sparks 'Gabbymania!' at ABS-CBN; will do teleserye, films for Star Cinema (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/storypage.aspx?StoryId=113544)

Are we seeing just the beginning of Gabbymania? Less than 24 hours since actor Gabby Concepcion set foot in the Philippines on Sunday--for the first time in 13 years --he already sent fans and production staff a-screaming when he came to ABS-CBN.

He sparked a mini-stampede at the studio where The Buzz was airing live, and even the usually grimly serious staff at the ABS-CBN central news desk--women and men--were reduced to a frenzy of giggles and digicam-and-cellphone cam-flashing when he dropped by the news room.

Concepcion confirmed in his interview over The Buzz on Sunday that he already spoke to Malou Santos, managing director of Star Cinema (the film production outfit of ABS-CBN) and he was already offered two film projects.

He added that ABS-CBN has also offered him a teleserye.

It is undeniable proof of Concepcion's star power--his thirteen years away from show business notwithstanding. Thirteen years away from show business seem to have done very little to diminish Concepcion's romantic leading man looks.

In fact, The Buzz host Boy Abunda's first question to the actor at the interview was, "Bakit ang guwapo mo (Why are you so good-looking)?" Concepcion had to pause for a beat and mumbled something about genetics.

Indeed, the actor is several pounds heavier and age is already evident on the face that was first discovered some two decades ago as a model for a toothpaste commercial.

But his winning smile and finely-chiseled features remain. Whatever roughness that maturity and hardships have etched on his once boyishly handsome features only seems to have heightened his appeal.

Comeback

Concepcion left the country in 1995, several months after the 1994 Manila Film Festival scandal where he returned his Best Actor trophy after it was found out that the real winner of the award was, in fact, Edu Manzano.

Concepcion was the one who blew the whistle on his then manager Lolit Solis, whom he tagged as the mastermind behind an attempt to fraudulently proclaim him and then young actress Ruffa Gutierrez as the winners in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories.

"Nung umalis ako nung '95, nilagay ko na yon sa likod ko (When I left in '95 I left everything behind me. Yon, sabi ko I think I need to move on. Not everyone has the chance to succeed in show business. I felt I had my time)," he told Abunda.

In the United States, Concepcion used whatever savings he had from his very successful Philippine showbiz career to study at Lincoln University. He finished two degrees simultaneously then went into the real-estate business. He eventually became one of the top ten real estate brokers in the US state of California.

He said that for the longest time, he was dead set on never returning to the Philippines.

"Ayaw ko na sana bumalik. Maraming nangyari. Nasaktan ako. Hindi ko na rin naisip na babalik akong Pilipinas," he told Abunda.

(I never wanted to come back. Too much had happened. I was very hurt. I never thought of coming back to the Philippines)

Concepcion said that he felt compelled to return for the sake of his father Rolly, who is suffering from a heart condition. It has become serious enough for his father to become wheelchair-bound.

"Dumami ang dahilan kung bakit kailangan kong umuwi. Dahil sa ama ko. Maysakit na siya sa puso. Hindi ko pwedeng sabihin sa sarili ko na well ganyan ang buhay. Idadasal ko na lang. Pag may nangyari sa kanya hindi ko mapapatawad ang sarili ko," he said.

(The compelling reasons for me to come back piled up. My dad has heart disease. I can't just tell myself that that's life and then pray about it. If anything happens to him I won't be able to forgive myself.)

Concepcion also clarified an issue of his supposed welching on a contract with GMA Films for a movie with Jolina Magdangal. The actor said that he is still committed to the project, except that there's "slight conflict" that has to be resolved.

The actor also admitted that part of the "slight conflict" is the emphasis that the movie would place on him. He explained that since any film he would do with GMA would be his comeback movie, he would want such a film to have greater focus on him.

"Maraming dahilan eh. Kung ito nga ay magiging comeback. it has to be a comeback kasi kung hindi ko magiging comeback, bakit ko gagawin?" he said.

(There are several reasons. If this would be a comeback for me, it has to really be a comeback. Because if it isn't, why would I bother doing it?)

The actor then said that he already spoke with the GMA Films executives and clarified that he is still honoring his contract for the movie with Magdangal.


Movie with KC and Sharon?

Concepcion also expressed great interest in someday making a movie with his ex-wife Sharon Cuneta, his daughter KC or a movie with all three of them together.

"Sharon has been part of my life. Of course I’d like to do a movie with her. I'd love to do a movie with KC. She's my daughter after all. Sharon is the mother of my daughter; it would be nice if we could do something together.

"Maraming intrigang papasok dyan. Katulad nga ng sabi ni Sharon paglalaruan lang. Pero kung maiiwasan natin yan why not, you know? Gumawa tayo, ipakita natin sa tao, tutal yon ang gusto nila," he said.

(I know there would be a lot of intrigues. Like what Sharon said, some people could just make a circus out of the whole thing. But if we could find a way to prevent that from happening, why not? Let's make the movie because that's what people would love to see.)

Concepcion also said that he's very happy about his coming projects with ABS-CBN although there aren't any specifics as of yet. "I'm very excited about the projects kasi, I know kung paano gumawa ang Channel 2 (I know how good Channel 2 is at that sort of thing)."

Peace with Lolit

He also revealed that he is now on good terms with his former manager Lolit Solis. He said that he and Solis patched things up in Las Vegas, when they both went there to watch Manny Pacquiao's last fight.

"Wala na kaming tampuhan ni Lolit. In fact, nagkita kami sa Las Vegas. Nagulat nga ako na lumapit sya sa akin. Nag-usap kami na-settle namin yon on the spot. Sabi niya, "O sige bati na tayo. Pahingi ng 100 dollars.' Buti meron akong 100 dollars. Kung hindi baka hindi pa kami nag-bati," he said, laughing.

(There's no more bad blood between me and Lolit. If fact, we met in Las Vegas. I was surprised that she approached me. We talked and settled everything on the spot. She said, "We're okay now. Now give me a hundred dollars. Good thing I had a hundred dollars on me or else we wouldn't have patched things up.)

Abunda then asked if Concepcion is aware whether his ex-wife still has any gripes or grudge against him.

"Meron nga ba? Well, siguro sa mga naririnig natin noon may galit siya sa akin. But that's all in the past. Kung ano man ang kasalanang nagawa ko sa kanya o kahit kanino, nandito ako para humingi ng pagpapatawad. So let's put all the issues behind us now. I'm not here para mang-intriga. Nandirito ako to start a new life," he replied.

(Does she really? Well, before I used to hear from others that she's angry at me. But that's all in the past. Whatever mistakes I made, whomever I offended before whether it's Sharon or someone else, I'm here to ask for forgiveness. I want to start a new life.)

Humbling lesson

The actor told Abunda that his experience of going from a showbiz superstar to hitting rock-bottom in the United States was a very humbling one.

"On my part, the United States is very humbling. Dun ako natutong wala kang alalay. Wala kang kasama ikaw gagawa lahat. Walang tutulong sa iyo maliban ang sarili mo. Dun ko nakita na sadsad ka pero babangon ka rin dahil sa sarili mong gawa. Yun mapagpagaralan mo yon. Mangyayari lang yon at mararamdaman mo lang yon pag napadpad ka don."

(It was in United States that I learned to live life without any assistants. Over there you have to do everything yourself. No one will help you except yourself. I experienced what it's like to fall on your face and then get up again using your own hard work. You'll learn that only when you go through it and feel it when you find yourself in that same place.)

He also thanked all the Filipinos in the United States who helped him out when he was starting to build his own life, away from the glamour, fame and comforts of a showbiz career.

"Mahaba ang 13 years. Unang-una gusto kong magpasalamat sa kapwa Pilipino natin na nasa Amerika na nagtiwala sa akin nung ako'y pumasok sa real estate. Sila rin ang tumatawag at sila rin ang napagbebentahan ko. At pinagkatiwalaan nila ako. Sino ba itong artista na ito na may nalalalaman sa real estate? Pinagkatiwalaan nila ako," he said.

(Thirteen years is a long time. I give my thanks first to all our fellow Filipinos in America who trusted me when I went into real estate. They were the ones who called on me and they were the ones I sold property to. And they trusted me. I mean, it was good of them to give a chance to an actor who claimed to know about real estate. They trusted me.)

"I Am KC" kicked off last Saturday

"I Am KC," the four-episode drama anthology of the "Princess of Royalty," KC Concepcion (Maria Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion), kicked off last Saturday night on ABS-CBN. In the first episode entitled "Binibining Palengke," KC co-starred with Ai Ai de las Alas, who she said is her idol. Under the direction of Wenn Deramas, KC showed the lighter side of her personality – fun, wacky and funny as she played Gracie, a market vendor who is tomboyish and independent. In the light comedy, Ai Ai played Ramona, Gracie’s mother.

In order to earn extra income, Ramona let Gracie join small-time beauty pageants, and during one of them, Gracie met Jeremy (Jake Cuenca), a popular action star. Jeremy is immediately intrigued and later on attracted to Gracie.

Rgw second episode entitled "Yes Sir," directed by Andoy Ranay, KC will play the role of Kate, the chief-of-staff of a hotel and girlfriend to Budoy (Luis Manzano). But because of the demands of her job, they will soon have misunderstandings. As she vowed to take care of her ailing grandmother, Kate is also determined to succeed in her career. Also featured in the episode is Albert Martinez.

The last two episodes are "Time’s Up!" (April 12), and "Love 2 Dance" (April 19). Directed by Jerry Sineneng, "Time’s Up!" co-stars Makisig Morales, Gardo Versoza, Janjoe Zarudo, Jiro Manio, Joshua Cadelina and Matteo Guidiceli. "Love 2 Dance," with Johnny Manahan as director, will have Vhong Navarro as KC’s leading man.

Every Saturday at 7 p.m., KC will have the opportunity to showcase her versatility as a performing artist in "I Am KC," on ABS-CBN.

Three’s a crowd?

The shooting of a TV ad was postponed because endorsers A and B refused to be in the same scene as endorser C. The ad agency felt that would be too expensive to create separate story boards. So they considered replacing endorser C but she already got a down payment.

Endorser C is clueless about how the two other endorsers feel. If she did, she would definitely give them a mouthful—as she usually does. Three’s a crowd? Will the endorsers be a crowd drawer during the product launch, given such animosity?

Kuwento ni Mommy Rose, "Nung October 4 last year, nagkita kami sa Hawaii.' Tapos nagkaroon ng fight nga, yung kay Manny Pacquiao at Antonio Barrera. Nag-fight, then nung kuwan na yun...nag-Pasko, nag-Bagong Taon, doon ko lang siya natawagan. January 25, sabi ko pupuntahan kita. Isasama na kita sa Pilipinas.

"E, ngayon, sabi niya sa akin, ‘Sige, Mommy, magliligpit lang ako. Sasama ako sa ‘yo. Basta puntahan mo ako ng March 28. Kaya't narito kami. Diniretso ko siya sa ABS-CBN."

Kailan siya officially naging manager ni Gabby?

"Nung pinadala niya ako nung January 26. Tapos na siyang pumirma sa GMA."

Sa kauna-unahang live appearance ni Gabby sa The Buzz kahapon nakita ni Mommy Rose ang reception ng publiko tao sa aktor. Ano ang naramdaman niya bilang bagong manager ni Gabby?

"Syempre, natutuwa ako, maluha-luha rin ako," sabi niya. "Hindi ako napahiya sa kanya na siya'y talagang marami pa ring fans. Kasi nararamdaman ko, e. Mga kaibigan ko na dadalhin ko si Gabby, tuwang-tuwa sila. Kaya ultimo si Gabby, naluluha kanina dahil yung pagtanggap talaga sa kanya nung guests ninyo, mga audience, talagang doon mo makikita na marami pa rin siyang...marami pa rin ang nagkakagusto sa kanya."

CONFLICT BETWEEN ABS-CBN & GMA-7. Nakipag-usap na rin ba si Mommy Rose sa ABS-CBN nung time na kinakausap na niya si Gabby sa Amerika?

"Oo, nag-usap na kami ni Malou [Santos, managing director ng Star Cinema] nung January ng taong ito," pagkumpirma ng film producer. "E, nakita ko naman na kuwan siya, si Malou, interesado sila kay Gabby. In fact, kahit sa GMA nakipag-usap din ako dahil doon sa pelikula sa abroad. Yung gagawin nila sa abroad kasi nakapirma si Gabby doon nung last September with Jolina ng isang picture contract. Pero sa abroad gagawin."

Sino ang nakipag-negotiate kay Gabby para sa GMA-7 movie niya?

"Isang kaibigan ata niya sa Amerika," sagot ni Mommy Rose.

Hindi kaya magkaroon ng conflict ngayong may kontrata siya sa Star Cinema at the same time, meron din sa GMA Films?

"Ah, walang problema, iho-honor namin," paniniguro niya. "Ako naman, sinabi ko iho-honor namin. Kaya lang, nagkataon yung script, hindi niya [Gabby] talaga gusto. ‘Tsaka kung maghihintay pa siya, naroon na raw yung cruise, kailangan na raw dumating si Gabby. Sabi ni Gabby, ‘Kung hindi ko naman gusto...' Alam mo naman si Gabby, siyempre gusto naman niya yung maganda dahil comeback niya, e.

"Kaya sabi niya, ‘Mommy, sige kung ano ang gusto mong gawin ko porke ikaw ang manager ko, gagawin ko.' E, nakipag-usap ako kay Malou, nagbigay si Malou ng sunud-sunod na pelikula."

Nagtampo raw ang supposed to be kasama ni Gabby sa pelikula sa GMA Films na si Jolina Magdangal dahil sa pagba-backout nito na gawin ang project. Kasunod nito, lumabas ang balitang marami rin daw demands si Gabby. Ano ang reaksiyon dito ni Mommy Rose?

"Ah, hindi. Hindi ako naniniwala doon," sabi niya. "Ganun lang siguro dahil nga, siyempre ang hinihingi ni Gabby, matinong script. Ang gusto niya kung comeback niya, comeback niya talaga. Yung pagbabalik niya, like si Robin Padilla noon at si Maricel [Soriano]. Robin at Maricel yun.

"Medyo nagtampo si Maricel sa akin noon dahil ang gusto niya, ‘Maricel Soriano and Robin Padilla' [sa billing]. Komo comeback ni Robin kaya nagdesisyon ako na ‘Robin Padilla and Maricel Soriano' na hanggang ngayon ay sana mapatawad naman ako ni Maricel Soriano doon. Dahil yun kasi ang parang naramdaman ko noon kay Robin, porke comeback niya, dapat mauna ang pangalan niya sa billing. Ganun din ang nararamdaman ko for Gabby. Pero walang demands si Gabby."

Wala rin bang dapat ipagtampo ang kampo ni Jolina, lalo na ang ama nito na si Mr. Jun Magdangal, kay Gabby?

"Ang pagtatampo lang niyan, e, bakit hindi natuloy. Yun lang ‘yon," sambit ng manager ni Gabby.

Hindi kaya magkagulo sa schedule ni Gabby kapag gumagawa na siya ng teleserye sa ABS-CBN at saka naman ipagagawa sa kanya ang commitment niya sa GMA Films?

"Hindi, kasi ang movie niya sa GMA gagawin sa abroad ‘yon, not in the Philippines. Siyempre yung sa akin, dito sa Pilipinas. Kaya kung gagawa siya ng pelikula sa GMA, abroad. Nakalagay yun sa kontrata, 100 percent.

Dagdag pa niya, "Basta iho-honor namin. Basta maganda ang script, gagawin niya ‘yon."

Bukod sa GMA Films, may offer din ba na show for TV si Gabby mula sa Kapuso network?

"Oo, teleserye din at meron ding pelikula," pag-amin ni Mommy Rose. "Kanya lang, medyo sabi sa akin ng GMA, kausapin naming maigi. Pagdating ko...kasi I was in Ilocos that time, pagdating ko tinawagan ko sila. Hindi na nga ako nakatawag dahil si Malou nagsara na kami."

ABS-CBN IS GABBY'S PRIORITY. Dahil may network war, posible na mag-uunahan sa schedule ni Gabby para sa kanyang first movie appearance pagkatapos niyang umalis ng bansa noong 1995.

"Hindi, mauuna talaga ang ABS-CBN," giit ni Mommy Rose. "Alam ng ABS-CBN may pinirmahan si Gabby [sa GMA Films]. Pero ako, bilang manager, uunahin ko ang ABS-CBN dahil kailangan na naming mag-shoot dahil naayos na namin ang script ng first movie ni Gabby sa Star [Cinema]."

Hindi naman kaya maipit niyan ulit si Gabby dahil sa dalawang commitment niya sa pelikula?

"Hindi namnan siguro. Wala akong makitang magkakaproblema dahil makakuha naman lahat ‘yan sa magandang usapan," sagot niya.

Sino ang makakasama ni Gabby sa kanyang first movie project sa Star Cinema?

"Si Claudine Barretto" diretsong sagot ni Mommy Rose. "Pero untitled pa, e. Si Maryo J. [de los Reyes] ang magdidirek."

More or less, ano ang takbo ng istorya?

"Mahina ako sa istorya, pero love story," sagot ng film producer at talent manager.

Sa April 20 daw ang simula ng shooting ni Gabby para sa pelikula niya with Claudine.

Ilan ang gagawin niya sa Star Cinema at ABS-CBN?

"Yung teleserye niya, meron siya for two years at saka yung kanyang pelikula, bale apat yun for two years."

Ibig bang sabihin nito ay tuluy-tuloy na ang pananatili dito sa Pilipinas ni Gabby?

"Actually, hindi pa kami nag-uusap kung siya mag-i-stay dito. Pero tingin ko, mag-i-stay siya rito. Maaaring bisitahin niya ang pamilya niya sa Amerika, ‘tapos balik siya rito. Nag-e-enjoy naman siya."

Magsisimula naman si Gabby mag-taping para sa show niya sa ABS-CBN by April. Then, sunud-sunod na raw ‘yon.

"Yung April niya, supposedly yun ang pelikula. Kaya lang, baka mauna MMK [Maalaala Mo Kaya] kay Ate Charo. Magge-guest muna siya."

Wala pa raw material na alam nila na gagawin ni Gabby para sa Maalaala Mo Kaya. But definitely, hindi ito life story ni Gabby.

"Ginagawa pa nila yung script. Kasi kararating lang namin. Nagtapos kami kailan lang? Alam mo, nung umalis ako papuntang U.S. nung March 23, doon pa lang kami nagpirmahan ni Ms. Malou," lahad ni Mommy Rose.

Bakit sa ABS-CBN ang ginawa niyang priority?

"Kasi siyempre, hindi na ako bago dito sa ABS-CBN. Kami nga ni Robin, di ba? O, ilan ang nagawa ko rito? Apat [na co-produced movies] pati yung kay Manny Pacquiao. Hindi na ako stranger dito sa ABS-CBN," saad niya.

"Naman! Parang tumapak ako sa sarili kong bahay," sabi ni Mommy Rose.

THE MEETING. From the airport, nagkaroon ng pag-uusap sa isang breakfast meeting sa Manila Pen sina Gabby, Mommy Rose, at si Malou.

"Ah, syempre, napag-usapan nilang dalawa na pinatotohanan ni Malou kung ano yung pinirmahan namin. Kasi nga si Gabby, ang sabi niya kay Malou, ‘Kung ano ang gusto ni Mommy Rose, ‘yan ang masusunod.' Kaya sinabi namin kung ano yung napagpirmahan namin, okay na kay Gabby."

Big-time producer din si Mommy Rose, bakit hindi na lang sa sarili niyang movie outfit gumawa si Gabby ng kanyang pelikula?

"Well, meron din sa FLT, kaya lang inuuna ko rin ang ABS-CBN. Alam mo naman ang promo ninyo at ang paggawa ng pelikula, terrible!" banggit niya.

Napag-usapan din ba nila ni Malou kung may project na gagawin si Gabby kasama ang kanyang anak na si KC Concepcion o ang dati nitong asawa na si Sharon Cuneta?

"Yeah, with KC," sagot ni Mommy Rose.

Pero sinabi ni KC na uunahin muna niyang gawin ang movie with her mom bago sila ng ama niya.

"Wala akong alam doon. Basta si Gabby, Kapamilya. Gagawa siya ng pelikula. Exclusive siya dito sa ABS-CBN, yun," giit ni Mommy Rose.

FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT. Nabanggit din ni Mommy Rose sa PEP na limang taon ang kontrata sa kanya ni Gabby bilang manager. Dalawang taon na nakatali si Gabby sa ABS-CBN at Star Cinema. After two years, may plano na ba siya for Gabby?

"Aayusin ko pa rin yung mga aktibidades niya. Maraming offer, napakaraming offer."

Tapos na raw ang pirmahan nila ni Malou, pero magkakaroon pa raw ulit ng final signing of contract with the new ABS-CBN President Charo Santos Concio.

Hindi naman kaya magkaroon sila ng conflict ng dating manager ni Gabby na si Lolit Solis?

"Hindi, tingin ko. Bakit naman? Kasi natatandaan ko, magkakasama kami nina LT [Lorna Tolentino], at Daboy... Sabi ni LT, ‘Naku, Mommy, mahihirapan kang kumbinsihin ‘yan [Gabby].' Kasi sabi niya, ‘Ang tagal na naming gustong interbyuhin ‘yan, ayaw. E, what more ‘yung babalik?'

"Sabi ko naman kay LT, ‘Alam mo LT, may bertud ako riyan. Kaya ko ‘yan.' Sabi naman ni Daboy, ‘Naku, Mommy, ‘pag napapayag mo ‘yan, bilib na bilib na ako sa 'yo.' Kaya bilib na bilib si Daboy sa akin.

"Tinawagan ko ngayon si Daboy, magkasama kami ni Gabby. ‘Daboy, kasama ko si Gabby, pabalik na kami ng Maynila. Narito na kami sa airport.' ‘Talaga, Mommy? Nawala ata ang sakit ko, ah. Totoo ba ‘yan?' Kahapon 'yan, nung March 28, 28 doon [sa Amerika], 29 dito [sa Pilipinas]. Sabi niya, ‘Naku, Mommy, talaga namang grabe ka! Ang daming kumukumbinsi diyan, ikaw lang ang nakapagpapayag.'

"Siguro medyo naawa rin sa akin [si Gabby]. Nakakawa ang hitsura ko, e," biro ni Mommy Rose.

Wala kayang usapang pera kaya niya nakumbinsi si Gabby?

"Wala, walang usapang pera," sagot niya.

Magkano ang worth ng kontrata niya sa ABS-CBN at Star Cinema for two years?

"Malaki," bitin na sgaot ni Mommy.

P50 million ba?

"More than."

P100 million?

"Less than."

Magkano naman ang kumisyon niya bilang manager ni Gabby?

"Ako? Ewan ko."

Tulad din ba ng ibang manager na 20 percent din ang kukunin niyang commission kay Gabby sa bawat proyekto na gagawin niya?

"Oo, I get 20 percent, yun naman ang standard. Sabi pa nga niya, 30 percent. Pero sabi ko, ‘Huwag naman, Gabby. Gabby ka na, e. Hindi ka naman bagong artista,'" pagtatapos ni Mommy Rose.

Three’s a crowd?

The shooting of a TV ad was postponed because endorsers A and B refused to be in the same scene as endorser C. The ad agency felt that would be too expensive to create separate story boards. So they considered replacing endorser C but she already got a down payment.

Endorser C is clueless about how the two other endorsers feel. If she did, she would definitely give them a mouthful—as she usually does. Three’s a crowd? Will the endorsers be a crowd drawer during the product launch, given such animosity?

Mas kilala si Mrs. Flaminiano sa showbiz bilang si Mommy Rose. Marami na rin siyang na-produce na malalaking pelikula sa industriya na pinagbidahan ng mga bigating artista gaya nina Rudy Fernandez at Robin Padilla. Ang huling pelikula na iprinodyus ni Mommy Rose ay ang life story ng boxing champ na si Manny Pacquiao na pinagbidahan ni Jericho Rosales.

"Actually, hindi pa kami nag-uusap kung siya mag-i-stay dito. Pero tingin ko, mag-i-stay siya rito. Maaaring bisitahin niya ang pamilya niya sa Amerika, ‘tapos balik siya rito. Nag-e-enjoy naman siya."

Magsisimula naman si Gabby mag-taping para sa show niya sa ABS-CBN by April. Then, sunud-sunod na raw ‘yon.

"Yung April niya, supposedly yun ang pelikula. Kaya lang, baka mauna MMK [Maalaala Mo Kaya] kay Ate Charo. Magge-guest muna siya."

Wala pa raw material na alam nila na gagawin ni Gabby para sa Maalaala Mo Kaya. But definitely, hindi ito life story ni Gabby.

"Ginagawa pa nila yung script. Kasi kararating lang namin. Nagtapos kami kailan lang? Alam mo, nung umalis ako papuntang U.S. nung March 23, doon pa lang kami nagpirmahan ni Ms. Malou," lahad ni Mommy Rose.

Bakit sa ABS-CBN ang ginawa niyang priority?

"Kasi siyempre, hindi na ako bago dito sa ABS-CBN. Kami nga ni Robin, di ba? O, ilan ang nagawa ko rito? Apat [na co-produced movies] pati yung kay Manny Pacquiao. Hindi na ako stranger dito sa ABS-CBN," saad niya.

Jusme...kakamatayan ko na pagiging Kapamilya ko...gaya nga ng sabi ko..kahit pa mag negative ratings ng mga High Quality shows ng ABS.... hinding hindi ako bibitaw sa mga pinapanood ko... eg. Marrying a Millionaire, MSKM 2, MFDL, Rounin (one of the best for me..actually wala nga akong gusto sa mga artist nito bukod kay Sharlene at Pareng Jomar...pero angat ang lalim ng story at effects... kailangan mo pag isipan at sundan lahat ng episodes para makasunod at makarelate ka...plus the fact na alam mong naghihirap ng husto ang mga tao behind each shows para lang ma-entertain tayo.. is good enough to earn my trust) at MMK of course...


Okay ang bagong TVPW... parang mas alerto at nakakatawag pansin ang graphics at background sounds...mas astigin ang dating... at sinunod nila yung request na ipakita din paminsan minsan yug whole body ng mga anchors... parang pag magsisimula yung news..magsisimula yung camera ifocus sa whole body habang papalapit sa anchor hanggang ifocus na sa upper half body nila... pero meron pa ring technical problems..sana ma-lessen na iyon.. sinunod din nila yung request na magkaron ng digital time sa lower right ng screen.... what I like most is yung new animated banner ng TVPW... una yung globe then after magrotate sa inclined axis nagkaron ng transition na ang pinakita naman yung 3 rings ng ABS CBN.... I like also the multiple monitors behind the news anchors in different sizes at malinis yung studio walang ibang mga decorations na makakapukaw ng pansin kaya tutok ka lang sa news anchors at sa rolling texts sa lower portion ng screen...

Gabby, two years ang exclusive contract sa Dos at Star Cinema By: Vinia Vivar



TALAGANG wala nang urungan at wala nang makaaawat sa pagiging Kapamilya ni Gabby Concepcion, dahil bukod sa nakapirma na ang manager niyang si Mommy Rose Flaminiano sa ABS-CBN, ngayong araw na ito naman gaganapin ang official contract-signing ng comebacking actor sa network.

We learned na bago pa man umuwi si Gabby sa ’Pinas, nakapirma na si Mommy Rose ng two-year exclusive contract for her talent sa ABS-CBN at Star Cinema.

Nang dumating si Gabby last Sunday, nakipag-meeting siya agad sa mga executive ng network with Mommy Rose at inilatag sa kanya ang kontratang pinirmahan ng manager. Okay naman daw lahat sa aktor.

But to make it more formal, si Gabby naman ang nakatakdang pumirma today. Kung saan, hindi na idinetalye pa ng aming source, but we guess, sa ABS-CBN din ito gaganapin.

It’s a multi-project contract, we learned. Lahat ng gagawin ni Gabby na proyekto sa TV at pelikula ay under ABS-CBN and Star Cinema lang.

Hindi pa kumpirmado kung ano ang mauuna niyang gawin dahil kasalukuyan pang inaayos, pero malamang na mauuna muna ang Maalaala Mo Kaya stint.

Tungkol sa kontrata niya sa GMA Films, wala naman daw magiging problema dahil non-exclusive ito at naka-stipulate pa na ang shooting ay outside the country.

Nagpahayag din si Gabby that he’s honoring the GMA Films contract, kaya wala naman daw sigurong magiging problema.

Later this week, malalaman na rin natin ang iba pang detalye, dahil nakatakdang magpatawag ng grand presscon ang ABS-CBN for Gabby.

DAHIL kaharap si Gerald Anderson, hindi magkandatuto si Kim Chiu sa pagpapaliwanag nang tanungin kung bakit nasabi niyang si Sam Milby ang gusto niyang maging leading man sa My Girl, hindi si Gerald.

Nakatingin pa naman ito sa kanya habang nagpapaliwanag, kaya feeling namin ay na-tense ang young actress.

Ayon sa explanation ni Kim, tinanong daw siya ng press kung sino pa ang iba niyang gustong maging leading man kung hindi puwede si Gerald.

“Wala naman akong maisip, tapos sabi nila, ‘sige na,’ ‘sige na.’ So, ang nasabi ko na lang ay si Sam, kasi siya ’yung kumanta ng My Girl theme song,” sabi ni Kim.

Tiningnan namin ang reaksyon ni Gerald sa paliwanag ni Kim at mukhang kuntento naman siya dahil napangiti siya.

Matatandaang may version si Sam ng kantang My Girl, kaya ang Fil-am actor nga ang napiling kumanta ng theme song ng Pinoy version ng nasabing Koreanovela nina Kim at Gerald.

Kim will be playing the character of Jasmine at si Gerald naman ay si Julian. Ang lolo ni Gerald ay gagampanan ni Ronaldo Valdez at ’yung tennis girl na third party sa buhay nina Jasmine at Julian ay pinag-iisipan pa.

But according to business unit head Deo Endrinal, si Niña Jose ang nasa isip nilang kunin.

MATAPOS ang napakainit na pagsalubong at one-on-one interview ni Gabby Concepcion sa The Buzz nu’ng Linggo, sinubukan naming kunan ng reaksyon kahapon ng umaga sina Sharon Cuneta at KC Concepcion through a close friend.

Pero ayon sa taong malapit sa dalawa, pareho pang hindi nagpaparamdam ang mag-ina tungkol sa isyu.

Ang alam daw ng source ng Tonight, pinanood at tinutukan ni KC ang interview ng amang si Gabby with Boy Abunda. Dito rin siguro na-realize ng dalaga na kasing-laking artista ng nanay niya ang kanyang ama.

Hindi naman sigurado ng isa pang source kung pinanood ni Mega ang interview.

Kung kilala raw ng nauna naming source si Sharon, hindi muna ito magbibigay ng komento sa mga sinabi ni Gabby, lalo pa nga’t nakatakda itong umalis any day now for London para sa shooting ng Chito Roño film na Caregiver for Star Cinema.

As of this writing, hindi pa nakakausap ng first source si Shawie, kaya wala pang mai-comment sa paghingi ng kapatawaran ni Gabby.

Unless daw siguro ma-corner ng press si Mega sa airport, saka pa lamang ito magsasalita.

Pero sa tantiya ng kausap namin, malabong matupad agad ang muling pagsasama sa big screen ng pinakamalaking loveteam ng dekada ’80. Dagdag pa niya, bukod tanging si Sharon lang ang makakapag-decide tungkol dito sa takdang panahon.

Sa interview ni Gabby kay Boy, sinabi nitong bukas siya sa muling pakikipagtambal sa dating asawa at tanggap niya sakali mang intrigahin sila dahil dito.

Pero, kitang-kita at dinig na dinig naman ang hiyawan ng mga tao sa studio pa lang ng The Buzz. Lalo na nga nu’ng tanungin ni Boy si Gabby kung sino ang type nitong makapareha sa pelikula.

Para sa mga bagets na hindi na maka-relate sa kasikatan ng Sharon-Gabby loveteam, sila lang naman ang hottest, biggest at most bankable nu’ng kapanahunan nila. Halos lahat ng pinagtambalan nilang pelikula, Dear Heart (film debut ni Sharon), P.S. I Love You, My Only Love, Dapat Ka Bang Mahalin, Sa Hirap at Ginhawa, Pati Ba Pintig ng Puso?, Una Kang Naging Akin, Tayong Dalawa at Bakit Ikaw Pa Rin?, tumabo ng limpak-limpak, in fairness!

Sa maniwala kayo o hindi, walang binatbat ang tagumpay na tinatamasa ng loveteams ngayon nina Marian Rivera at Dingdong Dantes, Marian at Richard Gutierrez, Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson, kahit pa ang John Lloyd Cruz-Bea Alonzo o Piolo Pascual-Angel Locsin.

Kasi nga naman magbabalik-pelikula siya after 13 years of absence sa showbiz dahil sa kanyang self-exile sa States tapos bibigyan siya ng movie na magmumukha lang si-yang “one of those” sa istorya.

‘Yun ang dahilan kung bakit gusto niyang pala-kihin ang role niya sa naturang movie. ‘Yun din ang rason kung bakit nagre-request siya ng top billing kasi nga comeback movie niya ‘yun.

Hindi niya tinatanggihan na makasama sina Mark Herras at Rhian Ramos tulad ng napabalita. Ang gusto lang niyang mangyari sana ay sa kanya iikot ang istorya since pagbabalik-pelikula nga niya ito.

He has nothing personal against Mark and Rhian dahil in the first place hindi naman niya kilala ang mga ito (wala na si Gabby sa Pilipinas nang mag-artista ang dalawa).

Gusto niya raw matuloy ang project with Jolina Magdangal kaso ibahin lang daw ang script. Point taken.

Ang kaso kailan naman kaya mangyayari ‘yun since tinuloy na ng GMA Films ang Love Cruise na ngayon ay ITALY na ang title with a different leading man, si Dennis Trillo nga.

Paalis na ang buong cast and crew patungong Europe sa April 2.

At any rate iho-honor pa rin daw ni Gabo ang commitment niyang ito with GMA Films kaya walang kaso rito.

MATAPOS ang napakainit na pagsalubong at one-on-one interview ni Gabby Concepcion sa The Buzz nu’ng Linggo, sinubukan naming kunan ng reaksyon kahapon ng umaga sina Sharon Cuneta at KC Concepcion through a close friend.

Pero ayon sa taong malapit sa dalawa, pareho pang hindi nagpaparamdam ang mag-ina tungkol sa isyu.

Ang alam daw ng source ng Tonight, pinanood at tinutukan ni KC ang interview ng amang si Gabby with Boy Abunda. Dito rin siguro na-realize ng dalaga na kasing-laking artista ng nanay niya ang kanyang ama.

Hindi naman sigurado ng isa pang source kung pinanood ni Mega ang interview.

Kung kilala raw ng nauna naming source si Sharon, hindi muna ito magbibigay ng komento sa mga sinabi ni Gabby, lalo pa nga’t nakatakda itong umalis any day now for London para sa shooting ng Chito Roño film na Caregiver for Star Cinema.

Sa maniwala kayo o hindi, walang binatbat ang tagumpay na tinatamasa ng loveteams ngayon nina Marian Rivera at Dingdong Dantes, Marian at Richard Gutierrez, Kim Chiu at Gerald Anderson, kahit pa ang John Lloyd Cruz-Bea Alonzo o Piolo Pascual-Angel Locsin.

Nakatingin pa naman ito sa kanya habang nagpapaliwanag, kaya feeling namin ay na-tense ang young actress.

Ayon sa explanation ni Kim, tinanong daw siya ng press kung sino pa ang iba niyang gustong maging leading man kung hindi puwede si Gerald.

“Wala naman akong maisip, tapos sabi nila, ‘sige na,’ ‘sige na.’ So, ang nasabi ko na lang ay si Sam, kasi siya ’yung kumanta ng My Girl theme song,” sabi ni Kim.

Matatandaang may version si Sam ng kantang My Girl, kaya ang Fil-am actor nga ang napiling kumanta ng theme song ng Pinoy version ng nasabing Koreanovela nina Kim at Gerald.

Kim will be playing the character of Jasmine at si Gerald naman ay si Julian. Ang lolo ni Gerald ay gagampanan ni Ronaldo Valdez at ’yung tennis girl na third party sa buhay nina Jasmine at Julian ay pinag-iisipan pa.

Robi proved he’s more than a pretty face by scoring a victory against Rona in a debate Kuya devised for the teen housemates. In the debate, the two academically outstanding housemates were each given three minutes to defend their particular stance on which sex is smarter: male or female. Clad in traditional Filipino attire, the two teens brought out their best arguments in front of their fellow housemates.

Robi was up first, stating that men were smarter since God created Adam first. Further proof of man’s intellectual superiority, Robi insisted, was the fact that Pinoy Big Brother was named after the male of the species. The housemates hooted in laughter over his

Rona also took on a Biblical tack by saying that Adam was weak and easily gave in to Eve’s temptation. The lass from Dumaguete so impressed her fellow housemates with her eloquent speech that even Robi seemed at a loss for words.

While Rona may have been disappointed with her loss, she gave Robi a hug and congratulated him on a job well done. Photos are also circulating in the media to attest the supposed "flirting" of Yilmaz with Zuleyka.

Meanwhile, Ruffa does not seem to be sour-graping over her former husband’s efforts to find romance. As far as Yilmaz is concerned, the only thing that binds her now with him are their two daughters. "Yilmaz is the father of my children and if he chooses to move on, so be it. I wish him the best of luck," said Ruffa in a text message to TV Patrol. "I hope we come to a mutual agreement that will benefit our children." Reports say that Yilmaz is bound to return to the Philippines in a couple of weeks to visit his children. This latest trip to the country will also pave the way for the estranged couple to discuss matters about the welfare of their kids, Laurine and Venice. Hoy, Ian F., if negotiations prove right, baka nga tuluyan nang mag-over the bakod ang isang itinuturing na pinaka-importanteng talent ng network na kanyang kinabibilangan.

Ang offer daw kasi ng istasyong balak nitong lipatan ay too good to be true. In terms of remuneration, that is.

Kung pakikisama raw kasi ng istasyong kasalukuyan nitong kinabibilangan ang iku-consider, wala raw itong puwedeng ireklamo.

Parang royalty kasi ang treatment sa kanya ng “powers-that-be.” Hindi raw ito puwedeng mawalan ng assignment otherwise, the station will have to pay the artist the kaukulang halagang kinikita niya kung may ginagawa siya.

Gabby Concepcion signs contract with ABS-CBN


80’s matinee idol Gabby Concepcion signed a three-picture contract with Star Cinema Tuesday.

According to Gabby’s manager, Rose Flaminiano, Gabby has a two-year contract with ABS-CBN. The contract gives him projects not only in the movies but television as well. Gabby is also rumored to play the role of Armando in ABS-CBN’s Betty La Fea starring Bea Alonzo. The contract signing was done with ABS-CBN Executives; Charo Santos Concio, Cory Vidades and Malou Santos.

Balitang sisimulan na ang first movie ni Gabby sa Star Cinema this April 20.

Not the fault of Star Cinema ito dahil si Gabby, through his new manager Rose Flaminiano naman, ang pumirma nito.

Kaso nga, according to the contract na pinirmahan naman ni Gabby sa GMA Films last September 2007 pa, and we quote Ms. Annette Gozon Abrogar on this, “The contract is for his first movie to be shown in the Philippines.”

May provision din sa contract na pinirmahan ni Gabby that he can’t work with any production until he finishes his contract with GMA Films.

Siguro naman, ayaw din ng Star Cinema ng gulo lalo na’t napasok lang din sila sa usapan.

Say ng mga taga-GMA Films, they still believe that Gabby is an honorable man that he will fulfill his commitment with GMA Films first.

On his legal battle with the Manila Metropolitan Trial Court due to falsification of public documents, he merely answered, "Haharapin ko lahat ng problema ko. Bukas ang libro ko sa publiko. Kung anong gusto niyong malaman, sasabihin ko hangga’t makakaya ko."

"Maraming opportunities that told me na kailangan kong bumalik. Hindi dahil para irevive ang career (ko) pero marami akong kelangan tapusin." When further asked about his need to atone for his sins, he stated, "Matagal ko nang iniisip yun. Hindi ko alam kung paano ipaparating sa buong madla. Thirteen years akong nawala. So siguro parusa ko na yung thirteen years akong nawala. Nagpapasalamat lang ako na nakabalik ako. Marami akong dahilan kung bakit ako umuwi at isa na dun ang humingi ng tawad…makipagbati…(at) makipagkaibigan."

With his tight schedule, he still wasn’t able to see KC but he hopes to see her on their family reunion of sorts during his father’s birthday on April 4 then perhaps on KC’s beach barbecue birthday party on the 7th. Of course, with the mention of his daughter, the name of her 'masugid na manliligaw' also came up. "Richard is a nice guy. KC could be a tough cookie but she has a good head on her shoulders. She’s strong, she’s also kind-hearted. She gets what she wants. Whoever goes steady with KC is a lucky man." What can he say about the people’s clamor for him to do a movie with KC and Sharon? "Game ako dyan. Ayoko lang ng intriga. Ayokong isipin ng tao na naggagamitan kami. I don’t want to be enemies with anybody."

TV comeback ito ng actress mula nang ipanganak si Rodrigo Santino, kaya tuwang-tuwang muling magtrabaho. Sabi nito, “I’m very excited with this show. Magaling na aktres, prima donna!

THIS actress is not as popular as, halimbawa, Sharon Cuneta, Maricel Soriano, Claudine Barreto, etc., but if there is one thing she has in common with them, ’yon ay magaling din siyang artista.

No wonder na ’di siya nawawalan ng project even if at times, if not all the time, she acts, thinks and projects like a prima donna.

Halimbawa, said a director-producer, when this actress is offered a movie or TV project, she quotes a price sabay prangkahang sasabihin na take it or leave it.

Kapag tinanggap naman niya ang proyekto dahil you were able to meet her price, here’s the additional rub: She comes to the set or taping na tanging ang suot na damit lang ang dala. She leaves everything to the production, lahat ng kailangan niya sa shoot, including costumes.

“Hindi ba nakaloloka siya?” say ng aming kausap.

Eh, bakit n’yo kinukuha? “Magaling nga,” ang sagot uli ng aming kauspa.

’Yan naman pala.

Another tanong from us: Would our kausap know kung bakit ganu’n ang attitude ng aktres sa work?

“Well, unlike most actresses kasi, hindi siya nagtatrabaho for the money. She is just working dahil gusto niya ang pag-aartista. When it comes to money, she actually has no dire need for it.

“She has a generous “Papa” who is not only rich but is very generous as well,” muli, tugon ng aming kausap.

ANOTHER Mars Ravelo superhero is being revived by ABS-CBN this coming April, “Kapitan Boom”, who’s far from being perfect but has heart of gold that will delight today’s generation of viewers. Filipino families will welcome Kapitan Boom into their homes with his exciting misadventures. As an ordinary guy, he is played by Pinoy Dream Academy’s Jay-R Siaboc. When he turns into a hunky superhero, he is played by Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition’s Jon Avila who’s now part of ASAP’s Cover Boys. Find out the story of Kapitan Boom in the upcoming comedy-adventure, “Mars Ravelo’s Komiks Presents Kapitan Boom” on ABS-CBN. Part of the cast is Thou Reyes, playing Jay’R’s best friend. He’s former child actor Joseph Reyes and was in “Ang TV” and played Tom Taus’ friend in “Cedie, Munting Prinsipe”. Now a nursing graduate who teaches caregivers in San Juan on anatomy and geriatrics, Johnny Manahan re-discovered him when he joined the Mossimo Bikini Contest and invited him to be a Star Magic talent.

He became a part of “ASAP”, “Kung Fu Kids”, and also joined “U Can Dance 2”. He turned 24 on March 28. Thou comes from Thousand and he’s proud of his African looks. The second of four kids, he’s the only who’s black and he got his color from a grandfather on his mother’s side.

Is it Richard Gutierrez's turn to move to ABS-CBN?

Nang magsimula ang demandahan sa tatlong kumpanya—AGB Nielsen, GMA-7, and ABS-CBN—the Kapuso network gathered its biggest and brightest stars for an ID plug showing their support for their station as "Proud to be Kapuso."

Ang unang ipinalabas ng GMA-7 ay ang kay Richard, the acknowledged king of GMA primetime.

GUARANTEED CONTRACT. He is reportedly the highest paid star of the Kapuso network and, more importantly, ang pinanghahawakan niya ay isang guaranteed contract. A guaranteed contract is the premium contract. It means he must have a regular show (a certain number of shows for some) at kung wala, babayaran pa rin siya ng istasyon of the amount he should get kung mayroon siya. Kapalit nito is Richard's exclusivity na hindi siya puwedeng makita o mag-guest sa ABS-CBN.

Reportedly, any show of Richard na ipalalabas muli, babayaran din siya ulit ng network. Kung kaya't kung sakaling magdesisyon ang GMA-7 na i-replay ang Mulawin, for example, may panibagong bayad daw na matatanggap si Richard.

It was already written several times that Richard is part of the creative group that will conceptualize his next primetime soap for GMA-7 after Kamandag ends. He is the first star to be able to be given that privilege sa GMA-7. Only the likes of Vilma Santos, Sharon Cuneta, and Dolphy ang may ganitong pribiliheyo sa ABS-CBN na makasama sila sa pagbuo pa lang ng concept of their shows.

Richard is also an exclusive star of GMA Films, the first to be signed up by the film arm of the Kapuso network. Sumunod na lang sa kanya sina Iza Calzado, Rhian Ramos, at Dingdong Dantes in that order.

But Richard's guaranteed contract is expiring on May 26—some say 27 and other say 28—of this year. Now, we hear whispers at presscons and we read blind items in tabloids that Richard might move to ABS-CBN.

Pinasagot lang namin ng simpleng yes or no ang aming unang kausap kung may offer ba ang ABS-CBN kay Richard.

This time though, mas maraming slant and reasoning kung bakit lumalakas ang usapan.

They will all have to give way to the king of GMA-7 primetime.

Ikalawa, KC will no longer be partnered to anyone but to Richard habang may side possibility pa ring mag-reunion ang dating magka-love team na sina Richard at Angel. Puwede nang matuloy ang Richard-KC movie solely produced by Star Cinema, unless hindi pa tapos ni Richard ang kanyang GMA Films contract which is all together separate from his expiring GMA network contract.

Grabe kahapon sa ABS pinagkakaguluhan sya pati ng mga employees...overwhelming talaga yung acceptance ng tao sa pagbalik nya.

"Looks can be deceiving," sabi nila. Hindi halata sa mga mukha ng mga artista ang kanilang mga ages because mga magaganda at gwagwapo pa nila. Bakit nga di-pagkaguluhan si Gabby sa ABS dahil unang-una, gwapo siya. Ikalawa, pinakahihintay ang kanyang pagbabalik after a long years sa US at ABS ang napili niya.
