Seems the channel has created another monster, says another source.

GMA Network Inc. took a kisser after the court junked its petition for injunctive relief against ABS-CBN News airing reports on rigged viewership ratings.

In his ruling, Judge Alexander Balut of Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 76 said preliminary injunction was futile because the undertakings that GMA-7 wanted to prohibit have been performed.

“It is clear that plaintiff’s causes of action are based on acts that were already consummated. Having already been committed, these acts can no longer be enjoined. Simply stated, there is actually nothing to enjoin,” he stressed.

The network filed the petition after ABS-CBN reported on ratings allegedly manipulated in Bacolod and other parts of the Visayas.

Feeling alluded to, GMA-7 came forward, claiming that its rival besmirched its reputation as a respectable corporate citizen.

Balut noted that GMA-7 failed to lay down enough ground to warrant prior restraint of its competitor’s reports, but that other remedies were available.

“If it believed defendants’ acts are contemptuous or obstructive of a free and fair hearing on the case, plaintiff has other remedies provided under the Rules of Court,” he said.

“In fact, the bone of contention is purely civil in nature, such that the ‘substantive evil’ which the State has the ultimate right to prevent is wanting.”

Balut based his ruling on three counts. First, GMA-7’s petition to stop ABS-CBN’s supposedly libelous reports comes too late—the reports have already been aired; second, GMA-7’s petition for injunction goes beyond the prayer contained in its complaint; and lastly, GMA-7’s petition for injunction constitutes prior restraint of freedom of expression and, therefore, unconstitutional.

“To issue the writ of preliminary injunction in this case would be to impermissibly interfere defendants’ freedom of expression. It would be constitutive of a previous restraint or censorship, which no less than the Constitution abhors,” he said.

“Needless to state, pending the trial of this case on its merits, free expression must not be used as an instrument to perpetrate unlawful ends to the obstruction of the administration of justice.”

Balut is the third judge to hear the P15-million libel case filed by GMA-7 against ABS-CBN. The first judge, Judge Samuel Gaerlan, begged off, admitting that his cousin was in the network’s legal staff.

The second judge to hear the case, Judge Henri Jean Paul Inting, also inhibited himself following a motion filed by ABS-CBN.

Inting had earlier granted a petition for a temporary restraining order filed by GMA-7 against ABS-CBN’s reportage on the questioned ratings.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Given the kind of life to which her daughter has been exposed, problemado raw ngayon ang isang sikat na aktres sa pagiging independent ng kanyang anak. Although the actress realizes that her only child by her ex-husband is already of age to decide on her own, hindi raw niya matanggap ang estilo nito sa pamumuhay.

Nais pa rin daw ng aktres na ito na mamuhay nang conservative ang anak despite having taken the showbiz plunge. Ito raw ang dahilan kung bakit on at least two occasions ay nagkakaproblema ang isang premyadong director sa pelikulang isinu-shoot starring the actress in question.

Bagama’t nauunawaan ng marami where the actress is coming from, nakalimutan din daw ba niya ang kanyang pinagdaanang teenage life? At what age nga ba did she get pregnant, was she 18 nga ba? Hindi ba’t kuntodo bantay siya sa mga itinalagang bodyguard ng kanyang nasirang ama, yet she managed to do her own thing?

Kung totoo ang mga kuwentong naririnig ko tungkol sa manager ni Popoy Caritativo, then he can be a dangerous person to transact business with.

Mismong si Yasmien Kurdi raw ang magpapa*tunay kung paanong kaswal lang kung sira-siraan daw ni Popoy si Katrina Halili, calling her names like “demonyita” (at least, hindi “evil” or “*****”, ’di ba, Mr. Jun Lozada?) Ewan kung sinasadya ’yon ni Popoy since he’s also trying to protect his business interests (he manages Marian Rivera, said to be the “katarayan,” of his alaga).

But as if naman Popoy is not well aware of Marian’s “impish side.” Just recently, inirereklamo ng isang close friend ni Lolit Solis, who comes and goes, ang umano’y pang-iisnab ni Marian sa isang picture-taking session.

Postscript na ito to the recently concluded Binibining Pilipinas, the results of which could be reason enough to boycott the next exercise. Sige, I won’t harp, this time, on Janina Miller San Miguel, adjudged Bb. Pilipinas-World, so much has been written and said about her. Let’s give this 17 year-old a break.

Pero ang hindi ko ma-take, ang Bb. Pilipinas-International, also a teenager and an SK Chair on her answer to the question who among the international women leaders she admired most. Umani ng malakas na “boo” ang kanyang sagot, she would have pulled through sana if she justified her answer. Obviously, wala siyang ibang kilalang woman leader kundi ang kanyang isinagot.

I could just imagine the Big Dome was flattened to the ground like a pancake.

Charlene at Aga referee sa salpukang Lani at Annabelle

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Ang bilis talaga ng panahon. Parang kailan lang nang nasa Baguio kami para sa kasal nina Charlene Gonzales and Aga Muhlach, ngayon, Grade 1 na ang kambal nilang sina Atasha and Andres. At nga*yon pa lang ay naghahanap na sila ng papasukang school ng kambal. Siyempre naghahanap sila ng the best na eskuwelahan. Pero wala pa silang final decision kung saan dahil priority nila ngayon ang travel sa Amerika kasama ang kambal para ipasyal sa Disneyland at manonood na rin sila ni Aga ng laban ni Pacquiao sa Sunday.

Since andun na rin lang sila, siguradong magkikita-kita sila doon nila Lani Mercado, Bong Revilla at mag-asawa ring Eddie Gutierrez at Annabelle Rama. At ang bilin daw ni Bong, tawagan siya nila Aga at Charlene pagdating sa Amerika para magsil*bing referee in case na magkaroon ng encounter sina Lani at Tita Annabelle. Tawa lang ang sagot ni Charlene nang banggitin ni TIta Ethel (Ramos) ang nasabing bilin ni Sen. Bong.

Anyway, going back to kambal, magaling na rin daw mag-piano ang dalawa. Pero feeling ni Charlene, mas may interes sa piano si Atasha more than Andres na mas hilig daw magsayaw. In fact today sa kanilang graduation sa prep, magpi-play ng piano si Atasha at sasayaw si Andres.

Three years old pa lang daw ay nag-start nang mag-aral ng piano ang dalawa. “Kaya kahit nakapikit si Atasha, kaya na niyang mag-play ng piano,” kuwento ng proud mama na si Charlene.

Frustration daw kasi niya (Charlene) ang mag-play ng piano kaya excited siya for Atasha.

Anyway, two weeks silang magi-stay sa Amerika. Pero mas mauunang bumalik si Aga dahil may shooting and taping ito. Five days lang daw itong tatagal doon.

To date ayaw muna niyang mag-comment sa ibang offer ng QTV or ng sister company nitong GMA 7. Sa QTV muna raw siya - Proudly Filipina. Ayaw muna niyang mag-comment tungkol sa offer ng GMA 7 dahil kailangan pa raw niyang magpaalam kay Aga kung tatanggap siya ng trabaho. “Depende pa kung anong project. Saka kailangang magpaalam ako kay Aga. Meron kasi kaming agreement na isa sa amin ang kailangang mag-lie low sa work. And being head of the family, si Aga ang active sa work,” say ni Mrs. Muhlach na parang hindi tumataba at pang-beauty queen pa rin ang katawan.

Besides, gusto muna raw niyang mag-concentrate sa Proudly Filipina dahil nagi-enjoy siya. Marami raw kasi siyang natutuhan especially meron siyang freedom na itanong sa kanyang guest mga bagay na hindi niya nagawa noon.

Wala naman daw problema sa ABS-CBN nang magpaalam siya kaya hindi siya dapat intrigahin kung lumalabas man siya sa mga shows ng GMA 7 na ang latest ay sa Binibining Pilipinas. Kaya nga tinatanong siya kung anong comment sa nangyari sa nanalong Ms. World na si Janina San Miguel na palpak ang sagot sa question and answer portion. “I think she was so nervous,” react lang ni Charlene who was there as host ng pageant.

At any rate, tomorrow, Thursday sila naka-schedule umalis.

Sheryl & Norman filing for divorce

This piece of sad news will come as a shock to many people (as it did to this one) and as a confirmation of sorts to others who have been suspecting all along that something was the matter between Sheryl Cruz and her husband Norman Bustos.

Yesterday, I got a call from Norman all the way from San Francisco where he is working as a sheriff, his voice heavy with a tone of sadness as he delivered the sad news direct to the point: “Sheryl and I are filing for divorce anytime now.”

The call came four days after Norman surprised me with an e-mail, asking for my celfone number, saying in his brief note, “This is Norman Bustos, Sheryl Cruz’s husband. I would like to get in contact with you as soon as possible. This is in regards to Sheryl and I...”

I felt a certain sadness when I got the note, suspecting the worst because knowing Norman to be quiet, soft-spoken, somewhat aloof and, as he described himself, “a very private person,” I didn’t expect him to get in touch with me this way.

Only four Sundays ago, he was here on one of his regular visits. I saw him with Sheryl and their daughter Ashley at a reunion of Sampaguita stars at the company’s Quezon City studio. As usual when they were seen together, the couple were so oh-so-sweet and oh-so-lovey-dovey that nobody (except perhaps those very close to them who know the real score) would have suspected that there was a crack in their 12-year marriage.

Sheryl and Norman got married thrice — first in 1996 in civil rites in Lake Tahoe, Nevada; the same year at a Catholic wedding here in the Philippines (held at the Ciudad Fernandina in Greenhills, now San Juan City); and in 1997 in church in San Francisco where they eventually settled at a big, beautiful house Norman himself had bought with his own savings.

Ashley, who’s a carbon-copy of Sheryl, was born on May 25, 2001. She is enrolled at an exclusive girls’ school here.

Sheryl came back in 2004 purposely for a long-delayed, well-deserved vacation from San Francisco where she studied and worked, far from the showbiz crowd that she used to know — and enjoy — since she was a kid (launched in a movie titled Candy, produced by Danny Dolor).

She came to stay (with Ashley), enticed by juicy TV-movie offers starting with the GMA soap Bakekang, followed by Mga Mata ni Anghelita and a few others before she moved to rival station ABS-CBN where she did Princess Sarah. She was also in the cast of a Mano Po movie by Regal Films.

Between 2004 and now, Sheryl has been making trips to San Francisco to visit Norman, and vice-versa; his most recent visit was a few weeks ago when, according to somebody close to the couple, he and Sheryl bought a house at a Quezon City subdivision. That’s when I thought that Norman has, thank heavens, finally decided to join Sheryl and their daughter in the Philippines.

Sadly, I was wrong.

The call yesterday confirmed rumors (which the couple simply ignored) that there must be something wrong in the marriage. Otherwise, as in the case of Ruffa Gutierrez who came home and stayed longer than she should, why would Sheryl be here for long periods and Norman was out there?

I asked Norman: Is there any third party? What happened? Didn’t they come to a compromise?

“No,” said Norman, “there’s no third party. Our long periods of separation have taken their toll. Four years is a long time. She’s there working and I’m here working. We have taken different career paths. I understand that she enjoys working in showbiz and she understands that I can’t leave my job (in San Francisco).

“I can’t join Sheryl in the Philippines and be a burden to her,” added Norman. “You see, I’m used to working and earning my own keep since I was young and I just couldn’t depend on my wife to support me. That’s not me. I think we are faced with irreconcilable differences, so... This is a very hard decision for us to make. It’s great when we are together but life is just hard and lonely for me when I’m alone, living by myself in our big house. It’s a situation that is just unhealthy for any couple.”

But Norman insisted that he and Sheryl are “okay with each other” and filing a divorce not under hostile circumstances.

“We have regular communication,” he said, “we are friendly to each other, contrary to rumors that we have had clashes. We are okay.”

In fact, Norman is coming back in May to attend the seventh birthday party of Ashley.

“Our main concern now is to give our daughter a good life, a good future,” he said.

I hope that between now and the time they finally file for divorce, Sheryl and Norman can reach a happy compromise. I really, really hope they could.

Sa bagong format ng Miss World na lalahukan ng napiling Binibining Pilipinas World, hindi naman problema ang pagsagot sa question and answer dahil mas binibigyan ng timbang ang porma ng mga kandidata sa swimsuit at sa evening gown.

YENG Constantino is the winning Grand Dreamer in the first Pinoy Dream Academy. “I have so much to be thankful for since then,” she says. “I won a condo unit for me and my family at hindi na kami squatter. I had my own album na naka-triple platinum and I had my own solo concert.

Tapos, ilang beses akong nakapunta sa States to do shows there. And to think, when I took the audition, muntik na akong maging ‘thank you girl’ lang. Ni hindi pinatapos ni Direk Lauren Dyogi ang song ko at nag-thank you siya agad sa akin, so sabi ko naman, ‘Thank you lang po?’ Natawa siya and called me back, tapos, pinapirma na ako. Ayun, nakasali nga ako sa PDA.”

And the rest, so they say, is history. She eventually bested 19 other scholars and even won best song awards from the Metro Manila Filmfest and FAMAS for her composition, “Hawak Kamay”, that was used as the theme song of “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo”. Now, she has released her own album, “Journey”. PDA Season 2 will start in May with Ryan Cayabyab as the new headmaster.

What can she say about observations that she’s a tomboy? “I admit namang boyish ako, kasi lagi nga akong nakapantalon at rubber shoes. Pero sa porma lang po ‘yun. Sa puso, girl pa rin ako. Sabi nga nila, dapat, mas maging glamorosa na ang projection ko ngayon. Siguro, in due time, pero kailangang maging comfortable muna ako para hindi ako magmukhang trying hard.”

What advice can she give to the next batch of scholars?

“Just be yourself, but give your best. Maging totoo lang sila and don’t pretend na they’re someone they’re not. Mas mamahalin sila ng viewers.”

A lot of us are wondering why Janina San Miguel won the Binibining Pilipinas World 2008 title in spite of her boo-boo during the question and answer portion of the pageant.

Sa bagong format ng Miss World na lalahukan ng napiling Binibining Pilipinas World, hindi naman problema ang pagsagot sa question and answer dahil mas binibigyan ng timbang ang porma ng mga kandidata sa swimsuit at sa evening gown.

"It is not funny." This is the reaction of former Bb. Pilipinas and Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez to comments comparing her to the newly-crowned Bb. Pilipinas-World, Janina San Miguel. The pageant took place last Saturday, March 8.

Janina San Miguel, the 17-year-old Mass Communication student from the University of the East spoke in broken and grammatically incorrect English during the question and answer portion of the beauty contest. Many people raised their eyebrows when she won and will be representing the country at the next Miss World pageant. Melanie, who is known for her interesting soundbites and loose grasp of the English language, is not too pleased with the comparison. "I’m grateful that people see the beauty in her but if you’re trying to insult her misktakes…comparing her to me na akala nila bobo siya, well that has to stop," retorted Melanie.

The model-actress emphasized that she should be given due respect for she has made the country proud, not only once but in numerous occassions. "Tigilan na nila ang pambabatikos sa akin. I think I’m one of the few celebrities who gave so much honor to this country. I didn’t step on anybody’s toes." Although her answer during the 1979 Miss International pageant held in Japan was also gramtically incorrect, Melanie would still not change one single word of it. "Because the answer I said is acceptable to the judges. I should have said legs, and ‘I’m contented with my legs’ but I said legged."

While we are on KC, she seems to have become the country's leading product endorser whose commercials dominate the TV screen.

In less than a year, the lovely and unarguably talented KC has become a star on her own. She has definitely come into her own, ceasing to attract attention as the daughter of the once massively idolized couple Sharon and Gabby. The 23-year-old beauty has even been asked to be the Unicef's ambassador for hunger prevention among the world's children.

She will most likely be seen on the big screen soon as.KC is now doing an acting workshop for film under actress Malou de Guzman. Star Cinema seems to be the one paying for the workshop as the film company has signed her up to an exclusive movie contract. Her first movie is likely to team her up with John Lloyd Cruz. Star Cinema has yet to reveal the complete details about the first movie project for their prize property who is now tagged as the ‘'Princess of Philippine Showbiz."

GMA Films is actually raring, if not lusting, for KC to do a movie with their very own Richard Gutierrez after Annette Gozon-Abrogar learned that Richard is crazy about KC and that the dashing matinee idol even sent KC imported long-stemmed roses last Valentine's Day.

KC has thanked Richard in public for the flowers. But when asked if Richard is courting her, the demure young lady declared, "Ask him, ask him na lang. I don't know what his intentions are, but we're friends. If there's anything more that he wants out of it, then that's for him to answer, not for me."

Gozon-Abrogar admits that they have sent a feeler to Star Cinema about the possibility of jointly producing a KC-Richard movie. Divulged the lady producer: Kami namang mga film producers, nakatuon sa ikakabuti o sa gusto ng mga manonood. Kaya yung network war, wala naman talaga ‘yan."

KC opined, " It would be great for me and Richard to do a film together in the sense na may bigger purpose than just a loveteam. If this will end the network war, I would gladly do it. Wala namang nangyayari, puro sa diyaryo lang ‘yan. Sana mangyari sa totoong buhay para masimulan na."

It sounds at most quixotic for the lawyer-turned-film producer to dream of a co-production between Star Cinema and GMA Films at this time. It also seems naive for her to say that there really is no network war when the two networks are actually in the midst of a court battle.

We simply don't think Star Cinema would allow KC's launching movie to be a co-production with rival GMA Films. That would be the most stupid thing to do.

IS there sibling rivalry between half brothers Gabby Eigenmann and Sid Lucero, sons of Mark Gil? “None,” says Gabby, who was a mainstay in “Marimar”. “Magkapatid kami so I’m happy for him that he’s getting good feedback for his acting.”

“Even if we have different moms, we’re quite close to one another,” says Sid. “Kasi our dad saw to it na lumaki kami knowing each other.”

Sid’s manager, Ricky Gallardo of The Manila Times, told us the other day that Sid met an accident while taping “Kung Fu Kids” for ABS a few days. He plays Krung Krung, the martial arts master of the Kung Fu Kids. During a fight scene at the Banahaw Mountain, a stuntman fell on his leg and Sid couldn’t get up anymore.

Worried that his leg might be broken, he was rushed to the hospital and he’s now wearing a leg immobilizer to make sure that his condition doesn’t get worse. He’s scheduled for an MRI as we write this. Before this, Sid doesn’t use a double at all. Now, because of this, Sid won’t be allowed to do his own fight scenes and stunts for a while.

Sunshine Cruz missed the interview of Mariana del Rio in "The Buzz." She's the 16-year-old Brazilian model being pinpointed as the cause of Shine and Cesar Montano's domestic squabble last December, which lead to her leaving their conjugal home with their three daughters in tow.

"Marami nagkwento sa akin about the interview. I don't know why they are making it seem that she's the cause of whatever problems Buboy and I are ironing out," said Shine. "We've been married for eight years and ang dami ng na-link kay Buboy but I never gave up. Kaming dalawa lang ang pwedeng umayos ng problema. Slowly, I'm healing. FROM Direk Wenn, we learned na sa kanya na itinoka ang pagdidirek ng pelikulang pagtatambalan nina former President Joseph Estrada at Ai-Ai. The film was formerly assigned to Direk Joyce Bernal.

At the moment, Wenn megs Ai-Ai’s fantaserye, Volta, on ABS. Siya rin nga pala ang nagdirek ng movie version nito.

“Naku, ha, where Ai-Ai is concerned, hindi yata ako mawawalan ng funny ideas. She herself makes me laugh,” aniya.

Pang-pito na ang Ikaw Pa Rin… sa mga pelikulang pinagsamahan nina Direk Wenn at Ai-Ai. Their first film together was Ang Tanging Ina, followed by Volta, Cute ang Ina Mo, Kapag Tumibok ang Puso and Pasukob.

The whole country’s post-pageant excitement and interest on the annual Bb. Pilipinas search has reached a new high, thanks to Candidate No. 15 Janina San Miguel, at 17 the youngest of the batch of 24, who was so overcome by nervousness during the grand finals last Saturday that, well, you know what happened (it’s all over the YouTube). Her “classic” answer (or lack of it) during the Q&A portion has become part of Manila’s pop culture.

But being unquestionably the most statuesque (awarded Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown) among the aspirants, Janina won the judges’ nod anyway (80 percent on beauty of face and figure, according to the criteria) and went home with the Bb. Pilipinas-World crown which qualifies her to represent the country in the 2008 Miss World contest scheduled later this year in Ukraine.

Have the heckling at the Big Dome and the ensuing put-down comments disheartened the UE Broadcast freshman?

Hardly.

In fact, Janina is taking everything with a grain of salt, laughing at herself along with everybody else. She’s likened to Melanie Marquez whose “I love my long-legged” answer to the final question didn’t stop the judges from declaring her Bb. Pilipinas-International in the 1979 pageant, saying “Beh!” to her critics and detractors by proceeding to bag that year’s Miss International title (the third Filipina to do so, after Gemma Cruz in 1964 and Aurora Pijuan in 1970, followed by Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005).

“I may not be good in English,” Melanie would joke again and again. “But look, what I have (And a Supermodel first runner-up trophy to boot. — RFL). Magaling nga ‘yung ibang mag-English pero may international beauty title ba sila?” Well said. Beh!

Contacted by Funfare for comment, Miss Malaprop herself naturally came to Janina’s defense.

Is Melanie (whose compilation of her quotable quotes is taking time off the launching pad) offended being compared to Janina?

“Not at all. I can only sympathize with Janina. She’s 17, baguhan sa beauty contest. I was only 15 when I joined the Binibini. Siempre, natural na ma-nerbiyos si Janina.”

The public shouldn’t be hard on Janina, according to Melanie who said, paraphrasing her own quotable quote, “Don’t judge Janina; she’s not a book!”

Melanie’s sisterly advice to Janina?

“Sige lang. Don’t be discouraged. You have seven months to improve and prepare before the Miss World contest. Take crash courses in speech; you can overcome your weak points. Remember, what counts most is your bearing and your total look. If your morality and breeding are okay, then wala kang dapat ikahiya o ikatakot.”

Mention papalicious and images of hunks, matinee idols and all things wonderful about men pop up like makahiya on a wayside street. Add the word supah to make it supah papalicious and the images grow to lifelike proportions. You envision a demigod with the looks and build of an Adonis.

That’s why Vhong Navarro can’t help but flash a smile as wide as the sea when people utter the words supah papalicious next to his name. The Cloud Nine feeling, however, is mixed. Mr. Suave and Lastikman knows it gives him hard-to-life-with image. And it exerts extra pressure on him.

Sure, he attracts girls the way bees are drawn to honey (hello, Desiree del Valle, Diana Zubiri et. al!). But the guy obviously doesn’t want to announce this to the world. He doesn’t want the lady’s man image to be his sole claim to fame. After all, there’s more to Vhong than this.

Sure, his naughty winks can melt a female heart as fast as ice cream turns to liquid under the sun. But Vhong thinks there’s more to it than naughty winks and winsome smiles.

His secret?

“I don’t believe in courtship. You only show your good side here,” he begins. “I believe in honest, sincere friendship instead. The girls get to know your good and bad side.”

Makes sense. It also makes sense that like the typical comedian, Vhong’s funny ways make girls fall for him, hook, line and sinker.

Take it from Valerie Concepcion, whom Vhong handpicked as his leading lady in Star Cinema’s upcoming movie, Supah Papalicious.

“I’m the giggly type,” she coos. “So guys with a sense of humor appeal to me.”

Not that this single mom is looking for a new man in her life. Vhong himself is in the middle of his three-year-old annulment case. It’s just that Valerie finds her leading man great to be with. And that explains the chemistry between them in the movie, where Vhong plays Adonis, an orphan who falls in love with single mom Athena (Valerie).

Vhong admits shooting the film was not a walk in the park. Unlike Gagamboy, Mr. Suave, Lastikman and others, he doesn’t play a cartoon character here. He plays a flesh-and-blood character as real as the orphans he hangs around with in the movie.

And Vhong doesn’t stick to just one role. He slips into the shoes of three other characters — Tita Barbara, Lola Paulina and cousin Apol Dayap (inspired by apl.de.ap, who else?). All these in his bid to prove to Athena’s little son Atong (Makisig Morales) that he (Adonis) has the big family required to win his ladylove’s heart.

The character changes and the shifts in mannerisms, makeup, costume and others they require make playing Adonis as challenging as running The Amazing Race is for Vhong.

“There’s nothing like it. It’s my hardest role so far,” he admits.

But he’s not lacking in sources of inspiration. Vhong looks at Dolphy, Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler when the wellspring of inspiration starts drying up (it happens to the best of them).

“Dolphy’s punchlines are always funny. Carrey is not only a good comedian. He’s also a good actor. And Sandler is effortless in making people laugh,” Vhong explains.

Vhong doesn’t stop at admiring his idols. He goes out of his way to do his homework. And his best teacher, in this department, is life itself.

“A good comedian must update himself on what’s happening around him to remain effective. This is the best way to connect with the audience,” Vhong declares.

Now you know why Vhong could muster a whopping box-office take of more than P100-M per movie.

But before you think Vhong’s life is one big laughfest, get a load of this: “I’m okay as long as they steer clear of my family,” Vhong says. But the minute people hit his children, watch out. Vhong himself admits he easily breaks down and cry.

This single dad may be remiss in spending time with sons Frederick Vhong, 11 and Isaiah, nine. Vhong’s work is that demanding. But he makes it up to them as much as he can. He may not get along that well with their respective moms. But Vhong makes it a point to bond with his boys every week.

That’s how he discovered that Frederick got his dad’s sense of humor while Isaiah is more of a future heartthrob. This means the boys got a fair share of dad’s papalicious traits: One is a future lady’s man; the other is a natural comedian.

Vhong plans to give them a common mom someday once his annulment case is resolved. And this time, Vhong will do everything to make the marriage last.

Ibinasura ng Sandiganbayan ang isinumiteng ‘motion for reconsideration’ ni dating Parañaque City Mayor Joey Marquez sa kinakaharap nitong kaso ng katiwalian ukol sa ‘overpriced’ na mga walis tingting.

Ipinalabas kahapon ng 4th Division ng Sandigan*bayan ang 65 pahinang desisyon ukol sa P463 libong halaga ng mga walis tingting na binili ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Parañaque buhat taong 1996 hanggang 1998.

Ipinaliwanag ng korte ang tatlong dahilan sa pagbasura sa mosyon. Una, iginiit nito na may matibay na ebidensya na nagdidiin na mayroong ‘splitting contract’ o hiwalay na kontrata sa magkasunod na araw para ipakita na nakasunod ito sa requirement na P150 halaga ng proyekto.

Ikalawa, masyado na rin umanong huli ang pagkuwestiyon ni Marquez o pagdepensa nito sa pamemeke ng kanyang lagda sa kontrata matapos na unang magbaba na ng ‘guilty verdict’ ang Sandiganbayan sa kaso.

Dapat umano ay ginawa ito ni Marquez noong nagsasagawa pa lamang ng preliminary investigation ang Ombudsman at Commission on Audit.

Ikatlo, hindi rin pinayagan ng Sandiganbayan ang argumento ni Marquez na kailangang i-inhibit sa kaso ang chairman ng 4th Division na si Associate Justice Gregory Ong. Iginiit ni Marquez na mayroon umano siyang utang kay Ong at nangangambang maimpluwensyahan ang kaso dahil dito.

Pinanindigan talaga ni Vhong Navarro na walang nangyaring ligawan sa kanila ni Valerie Concepcion habang sino-shooting nila ang Supah Papalicious. “Hindi ko po talaga siya niligawan. Marami pa siyang kailangang ayusin at marami rin siyang pinagdaanan kaya ngayon ay naka-focus siya sa kanyang work. Alam ko yun dahil nagkukuwentuhan kami sa shooting,” sabi ni Vhong nang maka-tsikahan namin kahapon.

Marami kasing namimilit na pinormahan niya si Valerie dahil kung sakali nga namang magkatuluyan sila, one happy familly agad sila dahil siya (Vhong) may dalawang anak na lalaki habang si Valerie ay isang dalagang ina sa three year old daughter. Kaya kumpleto agad.

Kung sabagay, hindi talaga puwedeng manligaw si Vhong dahil alam naman nating lahat na si Desiree del Valle ang ka-on ngayon na nang tanungin kung ilang taon na sila ng actress ay three years na ang sagot niya. Pero ayaw pag-usapan ni Vhong si Desiree dahil laging ang rason niya, on going pa ang annulment nila ng ex-wife niyang si Bianca Lapuz.

Anyway, siguradong maraming nai-insecure ngayon kay Vhong. Sa rami nga naman ng batang komedyante sa bakuran ng ABS-CBN, siya ang hindi nawawalan ng pelikula. “Siguro lang po, maraming blessings ang dumarating sa akin,” sabi pa ng komedyante na hataw din pagdating sa sayawan.

Besides, marunong daw kasi siyang tumanaw ng utang na loob, may disiplina sa sarili at walang kahit anong bisyo.

Idol niya siya Dolphy pagdating sa pagpapatawa pero ayaw niyang magkaroon ng maraming anak dahil baka raw hindi niya kayaning buhayin tulad ni Tito Dolphy.

At kasama na sa idol niya sa foreign sina Jim Carrey at Adams Sandler.

Anyway, hindi naman talaga maikakailang grabe ang impact na ibinibigay niya sa mga roles na ginagampanan niya sa telebisyon at pelikula. From Mr. Suave, D Anothers, Lastikman, at ngayon nga ay ang Supah Papalicious!

"Tiyak bibirahin na naman ako nyan," Willie Revillame texted BuzzBox when I informed him that Joey de Leon's new CD would be launched yesterday. As Willie could read him like a book, "Kagat Labi Certified Joeylicious" CD as released by EMI Philippines has a song written by Joey entitled "Walang Daya." While it makes no direct reference of the "Wilyonaryo" error and Willie, telltale signs it is about the game show and the enigmatic host are all-over the lyrics. While it is about love, Joey peppered it with the words "daya," "zero," "number two," "You Tube"-words associated with the "Wilyonaryo" blunder. There's even mention of "Ferrari" which, as we all know, is another word associated with Willie. Joey will probably dismiss these associations with a joke but anybody with enough pop sense will be easily pick up the clues.

Kris Aquino pregnant with third child

It's confirmed.

Game show host Kris Aquino is pregnant with her second child by husband star cager James Yap.

Aquino made the confirmation during the taping of her game show "Wheel of Fortune" inside the ABS-CBN compound.


Aquino said her gynecologist told her that there were already heartbeats heard during the Doppler Test.


Kristina Bernadette Cojuangco Aquino in real life, she is the daughter of former president Corazon Aquino and the late senator Benigno Aquino Jr., both key figures in toppling the Marcos regime.

The expectant mom has a son, Joshua, with her former live-in-partner, actor Philip Salvador. On April 19, 2007, Aquino gave birth to her first child with Yap, by caesarean section.

She has been dubbed as the "Queen of Talk" because of her success in hosting talk shows. Aquino was also crowned the Box Office Queen for her hit movies "Feng Shui", "So…Happy Together" and "Sukob."

Her current television programs in the Kapamilya network are the daily talk show "Boy & Kris" and the game show "Wheel of Fortune." with a report from Laila Chikadora, DZMM

Sa umpukan ng mga reporter habang naghihintay sa pagdating ng mga artista sa presscon ng isang pelikula ay napag-usapan ang isang TV personality. Anang isang baklitang reporter, nasalubong niya sa hallway ang TV personality.

Hindi raw niya ito nakilala dahil walang make-up. "Chaka (as in hindi maganda) pala siya kapag walang make-up. Nagdalawa, nagtatlong tingin ako sa kanya, bago ko siya na-recognize. No’ng pumasok siya sa dressing room at nagpa-make-up, paglabas niya, ibang-iba na ang itsura niya. Maganda lang pala siya kapag naka-make-up," pang-ookray ng baklitang reporter.

Masaya si Maja Salvador dahil nagkaayos na sila ng kanyang mana*ger na si Tita Chit Ramos na kamakailan lang ay nakatampuhan niya.

Sa presscon niya nu’ng Sabado sa La Mesa Grill, TriNoma bilang celebrity endorser ng Banana Peel flip-flops ay ikinuwento sa amin ni Maja na na*tuldukan na ang samaan nila ng loob ng manager niya.

Ikinatuwa ni Tita Chit at ng pamilya nito ang pagdating ni Maja sa libing ng ina nito na si Gng. Amparo Ramos. Ayon kay Maja, kusang loob niya ang pagpunta sa nasabing libing at walang pumilit sa kanya.

“Opo naman, kusang loob ko po ‘yon. At hindi po ako pumunta roon na, ‘Ah, pupunta ako para batiin ako ni Tita Chit!’ Wala pong gano’n!” bulalas ng magandang young actress.

“Pumunta po ako roon dahil na rin sa respeto ko po sa family. Kasi, si Mamang (tawag niya sa nasirang ina ng kanyang manager), pinupuntahan ko rin po siya ‘pag nandu’n ako sa bahay ni Tita Chit. Pinupuntahan ko siya sa kuwarto.

“At saka hindi talaga ako nag-take advantage (sa sitwasyon). May nagtanong nga po sa akin kung kinausap ko raw ba agad si Tita Chit.

“Sabi ko, hindi naman po magandang lugar ‘yon. Kasi po, libing ‘yon, di ba?

“Pero ngayon, okey naman po kami. Okey na kami nu’ng family, nu’ng mga anak, may text na. Kami ni Tita Chit okey na rin,” nakangiting sey ni Maja.

Paano niya ide-describe ngayon ang samahan nila ni Tita Chit bilang manager-talent?

“Ahmmm… nag-uum*pisa ulit. Parang ina*alis ‘yung lahat ng sakit na pinagdaan namin. Parang balik po ulit kami sa simula.

“Pero ayoko rin po siyang biglain. Ayoko ‘yung porke naging okey kami roon sa libing… alam n’yo po ‘yon? Kailangan, hinay-hinay,” sabi pa ng 19-anyos na young star.

Magpa-5 years na si Maja sa pangangalaga ng manager-discove*rer niyang si Tita Chit pero ngayon lang sila nagkaroon ng matinding alitan.

Sa mga hindi nakakaalam, ano nga ba ang totoong dahilan ng away nila? Dahil ba ‘yon sa pagiging ‘suwail’ niyang alaga?

“Suwail talaga? Ha! Ha! Ha!” tawa ng bagets.

“Actually, hindi po namin alam dalawa na parang bigla na lang lumaki nang lumaki. Ang daming lumabas na hindi naman kasali. Parang ganu’n po.

“Siyempre, showbiz kasi. Merong, ‘Uy, sabi ng manager mo, ganito! ‘Uy, sabi ng alaga mo, ganyan!’ ‘Yung parang hindi naman malaki ‘yung isyu namin, tapos biglang lumaki nang hindi namin alam,” paliwanag niya.

Ang sabi ay nagalit daw si Tita Chit dahil ‘bastos’ siya sa nanay niya. Totoo ba ‘yon?

“Naku, hindi po totoo ‘yon! ‘Yung tungkol sa nanay ko, actually, hindi po ‘yun ‘yung isyu ta*laga, eh! Hindi po talaga ‘yon…”

So, hindi totoong nilalabanan at minumura-mura niya ang nanay niya?

“Hindi po! Diyos ko naman! Baka mamaya, wala nang dumating sa aking blessings ‘pag wala akong respeto sa nanay ko!

“At saka isa pa po, siyempre, ‘pag wala akong respeto sa nanay ko, eh ‘di, pati sa ibang tao, wala na akong respeto!”

So, hindi totoong bad girl siya?

“Hindi po. Actually, lahat po ng tao na nakakasama ko, wala naman akong naririnig na maldita ako. At saka sana, naikuwento na ng mga staff o ng mga katrabaho ko kung talagang nagmamaldita ako o kung masama ang ugali ko. Wala naman po, eh!” depensa niya sa sarili niya.

So, pera ang dahilan ng gap nila?

“Hindi, hindi naman. Siguro ‘yung sa kontrata lang. ‘Yung mga pagtatanong ko ng kontrata. Ganu’n. So, parang lumaki na lang nang lumaki…”

Malinaw na ba nga*yon ‘yung isyu na ‘yon ng kontrata?

“’Yun na nga po, ayoko pong madaliin si Tita Chit. Pero siya pa rin po ‘yung manager ko. Kasi, hindi pa po tapos ‘yung kontrata ko, eh! She’s still my manager. Tapos, naka-co-managed kami sa STRAM (Star Records and Management).”

So, mahal niya pa rin ang manager niya kahit nagkaroon sila ng hidwaan?

“Opo naman! Nanay ko na ‘yan. Nanay ko na po si Tita Chit. Wala pong nagbago sa relasyon namin. Kahit na may mga lumabas na, ‘O, sabi raw ng manager mo, ganyan!’ Para sa akin, kung may totoo man sa mga sinabi niya, kung may totoo man sa mga sinulat ng iba na sinabi niya raw tungkol sa akin, tatanggapin ko pa rin si Tita Chit.

“Kasi, siya naman ta*laga ang nagbigay sa akin ng lahat, eh! Siya ang nag-umpisa. Siya ‘yung isa sa mga dahilan kung nasaan po ako ngayon. Siya ang nagbukas ng pinto na papasukin ako sa showbiz!” seryosong sambit pa ni Maja

SUPER-deny si Maja Salvador na may itinatago silang relasyon ni Carlo Aquino, huh? Nakausap namin si Maja sa presscon ng Banana Peel (cute na flipflops) na kanyang ini-endorse. Nu’ng una, super-kuwento pa siya about Rayver Cruz.

“Siya na po ang ka-love-team ko ngayon, eh, Wala naman pong problema sa amin nina Shaina (Magda-yao at John Prats) kung nag-exchange partners man kami,” kuwento ni Maja tung-kol kay Rayver.

Makakasama ni Maja si Rayver sa ilang proyekto ng Dos. Pero, mariing sinabi ng dalaga na hindi siya niligawan nito. Nagkasama sila noon sa Spirits at ibang shows, pero kaibigan lang ang turingan ni-la. Ganoon? Si Carlo Aquino?

“Ayy,’di na po kami nag-kikita, eh. Minsan na lang, Ano, sa teks na lang kami nagkukumustahan,” aniya.

Tinanong din namin si Maja kung ano ang reaksyon ni Carlo sa napabalitang nega-tibo tungkol kanya recently? Aniya, sinuportahan siya nito. Star Magic reveled with a cause for their Valentine babies Roxanne Guinoo, Alwyn Uytingco, Raphael Martinez, AJ Perez, Empress Schuck and Maegan Young.

Roxanne is still in limbo after her breakup with Jake Cuenca. “The love is still there but kung magkabalikan kami, di na namin papayagan may makialam and we won’t bring up past issues anymore,” she said.

Cristine, ‘di na masaya sa GMA!

ITINANGGI ni Ara Mina na sinusulsulan niya ang kapatid na si Cristine Reyes na laya*san na rin ang GMA 7 at lumipat sa ABS-CBN 2. Sabi ni Ara, pinapayuhan lang niya si Cristine, na sundin kung ano ang gusto nitong gawin.


"Ang sabi ko sa kanya, kung saan siya masaya, doon siya. Hindi ko puwedeng pakialama*nan kung ano ang gusto niya. Siya lang ang nakakaalam kung saan siya masaya.


"Sabi niya, hindi na raw siya masaya sa GMA 7. Kahit sabihin ko sa kanyang bigyan niya ng chance ang GMA, eh kung ayaw niya wala akong magagawa.
"Ayaw kong maki*alam sa career niya. Sabi niya, mas gusto niya na ako ang maging manager niya ngayon. Kapag pu*mirma na siya ng kontrata sa GMA o sa ABS, doon lang ako papasok.


"As of now, hinahayaan ko muna siya na magdesis*yon. Pero kung ako ang masusunod, mas gusto ko na sa GMA 7 siya magtrabaho, para at least magkahiwalay kami ng network, ‘di ba?


"Mas maganda kasi sa magkapatid na magkaiba ang network na pinagtatrabahuhan nila, eh. Pero, si Cristine nga ang dapat masunod kung saan siya masaya.
"Baka kapag nakialam ako sa kanya, baka kami naman ang mag-away. Baka ako pa ang sisihin niya kapag nagkamali siya.


"Sa ngayon, okey na ‘yung gina-guide ko siya," kuwento ni Ara.
Hiling ni Ara na kapag pumirma na ng kontrata si Cristine sa GMA o sa ABS, mabigyan ito ng tamang break.


"Siyempre, gusto ni Cristine na maipakita naman ang kakayahan niya.
"May nagsasabi na dapat ay kay Cristine ibi*gay ang Darna. Unang-una, sexy naman si Cristine, maganda ang katawan. ‘Yung mga ganung break ang gusto ni Cristine, eh.
"Sa ngayon, wala pa kasing malinaw na offer ang GMA sa kanya," say pa rin ni Ara.
May mga nagsasabi na masyado namang demanding sina Cristine at Ara, na kailangan ay sundin ang gusto nila, at kung hindi ay lalayas sila.


"Hindi naman kami demanding. Sa case ko, in fairness, wala kaming samaan ng loob ng GMA. Nagpaalam ako ng maayos sa kanila.


"Hanggang ngayon, tumatanaw ako ng malaking utang na loob sa GMA, dahil inalagaan naman nila ako.


"Ganun ang payo ko kay Cristine, na iwasan niyang magkaroon ng samaan ng loob sa GMA, kasi diyan siya nagsimula.


"Maliit lang ang mundo ng showbiz. Kung sino ang nakakasama mo ngayon, puwedeng sila rin ang makasama mo in the future."


Anyway, masaya raw si Ara sa sitwasyon niya ngayon sa ABS. Posible nga raw ma-extend hanggang July ang Prinsesa ng Banyera.


Siyanga pala, masama ang pakiramdam ni Ara noong makausap namin siya. Eh, kailangan niyang magpagaling dahil may show siya sa Dubai sa March 15.
Ang nakakatuwa kay Ara, kahit maysakit siya, wala siyang reklamo sa trabaho.
"Actually, last January pa nag-start ang sakit ko. Nag-show nga ako noon, kahit wala akong boses.


"Naawa na lang ‘yung producer sa akin, kaya hindi na ako pinakanta, pinag-host na lang ako.


"Sa totoo lang, hindi nawawala ang ubo ko. Para na nga akong aso!
"Eh, may show pa ako sa London. Umayaw na nga ako sa Japan, kasi Holy Week naman. Mas maganda kung sa bahay lang ako sa Holy Week. Eh, enjoy naman ako sa bago kong bahay," sabi na lang ni Ara.

SANA, huwag gawing issue ng sister ni Ara Mina ang paglipat niya.

It seems that Ara’s sister is likening herself to Angel Locsin na kailangan ay ka-sing ingay at kasing laki ang paglipat niya from GMA-7 to ABS-CBN.

1.Marian Rivera - sikat lang. Aside from Marimar, ano na napatunayan nito? I dont even like this girl dahil ang laki ng boses and kulang pa rin sa pag arte. Hindi dahil mataas ang rating ng show, ibig sabihin magaling ka ng umarte at deserving ka na magjudge.

2. Chris Tiu - Athlete and merong five star hotel. So OK! E ni hindi pa nga ito nakakapagmanage ng sarili nilang hotel. Isa pang wala pang napapatunayan para maging judge.

3. Dennis Trillo - Do I need to say more about this liar and womanizer?

Dahil sa pinulitikang board of judges, nagkaganyan ang results ng contest. Hindi deserving ang nanalo.

THE new album of Jericho Rosales features original songs which the actor himself wrote. These compositions are: Night Sky, Kasama Ka, Flying In, Flying Out and Tuwing Nakikita Ka.
