Sakal' overtakes 'Enteng' in MMFF box-office race

MANILA, Philippines—As the crucial weekend grosses come in, Star Cinema’s “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo” overtakes OctoArts’ “Enteng Kabisote 4” in the box-office race of the 33rd Metro Manila Film Festival.

“Sakal,” sequel to last year’s top-grosser “Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo,” posted P68.3 million. On the other hand, “Enteng,” fourth instalment of the fantasy franchise starring TV host Vic Sotto, earned P66.6 million.

Third place goes to Regal’s “Shake, Rattle & Roll 9,” with P41.6 million.

Imus/Ignite’s “Resiklo” is in fourth place, with P15.6 million; MaQ’s “Bahay Kubo,” fifth, P12.6 million; and Maverick’s “Katas ng Saudi,” sixth, P2.8 million.

As of Dec. 30, total MMFF earnings is P208 million.

Ric Camaligan, MMFF executive committee member, provided the latest box office figures.

Camaligan credits the festival’s “Cash sa Pelikula” promo for the good box-office showing.

“Sakal” director Jose Javier Reyes, who is currently vacationing in Boracay, says that he is happy with the strong performance of “Sakal” at the tills, but hopes “movies that are different will also be given a chance by moviegoers.”

“We can’t have a festival of sequels every year,” he notes “We can’t have ‘Enteng,’ ‘Sakal,’ ‘Shake’ and ‘Mano Po’ every year. I believe the success of ‘Sakal’ is a carryover from last year’s ‘Kasal.’ More than ‘Katas’ [which he also directed], I hope new films like ‘Banal’ [which opens Jan. 1] will also do well.”

Year 2007 has bidden goodbye but, as I said, the Year of the Rat doesn’t take over from the Year of the Pig until the Chinese New Year first week of February.

But as tradition dictates, Funfare is dishing out its predictions for 2008.

Yes, I know, I know, I know! I now sound like a broken record because year in and year out, everytime I put out Funfare’s annual halu-halong hula-hula, I always remind the readers that, like the madames in showbiz — Madame Uling, Madame Dolorosa, Madame Labanos, et al — all I have to do to predict what’s in store for showbiz denizens in the next 12 months is — you guessed it! — review my stack of movie magazines, rewind my videotapes of talk shows (Startalk, Showbiz Central, Entertainment...Live!, The Buzz and even The Ricky Lo Exclusives which airs Wednesday nights, 8:30 to 9:30 on Q-11, with Nicolas Cage of National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Gretchen Barretto and Marian Rivera as this week’s headliners) and, voila!!! (in case you haven’t noticed, I, like a broken record, always use this exclamatory word in this New Year piece), my halu-halong hula-hula for the year is complete.

Here are what I see in my own murky Crystal Bola-Bola and my wornout Tarat Cards:

The Blind Items

• A heavyweight newscaster/TV-host will resign from a big network and make an earth-shaking exposé.

• Toward the middle of the year, a young actress will regret having made what people around her called “a good career move.”

• Three showbiz couples will break up, one due to the wife’s infidelity and the two due to, ehem, “third parties.”

• A showbiz-oriented talk show will fold up. (Oh, my God, which one!?!)

• There will be a big shake-up in the news and public affairs department of a network — as more heads will roll. (Whose heads? My Crystal Bola-Bola and Tarat Cards didn’t specify.)

• A popular movie-TV actress will make shocking revelations about her actor-boyfriend who is not as santo-santito as he seems to be.

• Another showbiz couple will migrate. (After you, Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragoza who are now settled in California; and Rodel Velayo and Daniella, now in Australia.)

• A young actress will get pregnant out of wedlock but she won’t marry the “culprit” (her actor-boyfriend) yet.

• More scandals (not as horrible as those that happened in 2007) will rock the game shows. As usual, the senators and the congressmen will try to get media mileage by, ho-hum, threatening to initiate a “probe.”

• A young actress will surprise everybody by announcing that she’s getting married to her non-showbiz boyfriend.

• An actor-politician will continue to be hounded by intrigue but he and his wife and children will, as usual, survive it.

• A showbiz stage mother and her actress-daughter will wage an ugly word war against each other on — where else! — national television.

• A sweet, young singer-actress might rebel against her over-strict parents.

• Unless he changes his wanton ways (with money and, because he has the illusion that he’s guapito, with women), a sports star will find himself enmeshed in more controversies which might be too much for him to handle, thus putting his family life at risk.

• A talent manager and her alaga will part ways under unpleasant circumstances.

• A young actor will be arrested for cracking a bomb joke at an airport.

The Wide-Awake Items

• Having reached the point of no return and no looking back, Ruffa Gutierrez and Yilmaz Bektas will find new loves, she a distinguished non-showbiz gentleman (also a survivor of an unhappy marriage) and he, an international beauty title-holder.

• Sorry, but no wedding bells for: Korina Sanchez and Sen. Mar Roxas, Jolina Magdangal and Bebong Muñoz, Vic Sotto and Pia Guanio, Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo, Troy Montero and Aubrey Miles, Iza Calzado and Jerry Garcia, Pops Fernandez and Jomari Yllana, Martin Nievera and Katrina Ojeda, John Estrada and Priscilla Mereilles, and Dr. Vicki Belo and Dr. Hayden Kho.

• But Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez are seriously planning to march down the aisle (with the legal impediments expected to be ironed out this year).

• Marian Rivera’s star will shine even brighter and bigger. It’s good karma for her because, as she has been saying, “I never forget to thank the people who helped me get to where I am now, starting with Mr. Tony Tuviera who discovered me.”

• Janno Gibbs and Bing Loyzaga will finally let bygones be bygones and start life anew — together! But first, Bing will make Janno promise, hand on the Bible, to stop being a womanizer.

• Gladys Guevarra will have a painful collision with “reality.”

• Old habits will continue to dog Snooky Serna but if she tries hard enough, she will finally shake off her pagong (turtle) tag.

• Aiko Melendez will admit that she’s going steady with Patrick Meneses (the bachelor vice mayor of Bulacan, Bulacan), never mind if the annulment case between her and husband Martin Jickain is pending.

• Daisy Romualdez and prodigal daughter Danita Paner will have a tearful reconciliation in the glare of TV spotlight. All’s well that ends well.

• Toni Gonzaga will start hinting at joining politics (initially by running for mayor of Taytay, Rizal, in 2010?). She and boyfriend, TV director Paul Soriano, (son of Jeric Soriano, the son of Nestor de Villa), might end up being just “good friends.”

• The popularity of game shows will wane; Koreanovelas will not be as popular; and reality-TV like Pinoy Big Brother will have less and less followers because they have nothing new to offer.

• The network war between GMA and ABS-CBN will get worse before it gets better, as talents merrily jump ober da bakod between the two stations.

• Something “big” is in store for ABS-CBN bigwig Charo Santos-Concio.

• Indie/digital films will continue to win awards both here and in international film festivals. Meanwhile, as in 2007, award-giving bodies might not hold the usual grand palabas due to, hu-hu-hu, lack of funds.

• Despite rumors to the contrary, the Dingdong Dantes-Karylle romance will even grow stronger. But marriage is farthest from their minds. But, sorry na lang Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia will have no choice but to part ways.

• After all the bangayan and singhalan, Dennis Trillo and Carlene Aguilar will kiss and make up for the sake of Calix Andrea, their love son (not daughter as mentioned in last Sunday’s yearender).

Piolo and Sam vs. Lolit, to continue in 2008

The controversial case was ignited by a write up penned by entertainment columnist and talk-show host Lolit Solis that appeared in the pages of Pilipino Star Ngayon on October 15, 2007.

The column entitled “Piolo at Sam naglalampungan,” related Lolit’s story that she saw the two heartthrobs in a “compromising” situation in a hotel lobby on October 12.

Piolo and Sam’s lawyer expressed that the write-up was undeniably damaging to the actors’ reputations and is deemed libelous. In a TV interview, Sam, who was obviously having a hard time to keep a calm composure, directed to Lolit: “I don’t know you personally, but what you did is below the belt.”

What the two famous actors demanded from Lolit were public apology and retraction but Lolit did not oblige. She stood by her claim.

Later in the issue, columnist Dolly Ann Carvajal wrote in her column in Philippine Daily Inquirer that what Lolit wrote about “may be hearsay.” Dolly Ann stated in her column that it could have been just a friend that claimed to have seen the two actors and relayed it to Lolit.

“Para siraan ang reputasyon ng isang tao, for a lack of better term, nakakalalaki ka,” said an angered Piolo in a press conference.

Later on, Lolit expressed her willingness to apologize to the two famous male stars of ABS-CBN in the spirit of Christmas.

Piolo commented that an apology would be nice specially if it would be sincere. But the case is already in court and that they could only await for the court’s decision.

On December 20, 2007, Lolit was said to have submitted a counter-affidavit for the libel case filed against her by Piolo and Sam, meaning further hearings are to be scheduled.

One thing is for sure, the issue is far from over and will continue until 2008.

Totoong kinita ng MMFF 2007 itinatago

SOMEONE should verify the rumor about the grosses of MMFF 2007.

Nakatanggap kami ng unconfirmed report na although kumikita raw ang lima sa anim na naunang nagbukas, the gross do not match the gross of last year. Meaning, mas malakas daw ang festival last year. Napapansin nga namin, walang naglalabas ng actual grosses even in the first five days, pawang mga standing lang on who’s number one and so forth.

Kahit ang mga respective PR’s of the movies, walang releases na bigger than last year ang grosses specially the sequels to which there are three.

At least good news pa rin namang maituturing dahil ang bottom line naman kung kumikita or hindi ang mga pelikula. Siguro maghintay na lang tayo sa last day kung magri-release ang MMDA ng final grosses.

Kaya we reiterate the battle cry of showbiz, tangkilikin ang pelikulang Pilipino.

KAHAPON naman nagbukas ang final three movies na kasama sa MMFF.

Todo pukpukan na ang film festival starting yesterday with all nine movies in the cinemas na. For sure, may mga naunang pelikula nang nagbawas ng sinehan to give way to Regal Films’ Desperadas, Com Guild’s Banal and MP Productions’ Anak Ng Kumander.

In the same token, may mga naunang pelikula rin ang nagdagdag and those are the top three.

Tiyak na lalaban ang Desperadas dahil malakas ang buzz nito and we are wondering nga na kung natuloy kaya ito na i-showing last December 25, would it fare better than Bahay Kubo?

Balita kasing bumaba na nga ang film ni Maricel Soriano to number five and overtaken by Bong Revilla’s Resiklo which is now in number four below another Regal movie na Shake, Rattle & Roll 9.

That’s another ‘what if’ na hindi na masasagot di ba Ms. Roselle Monteverde?

You are right SkyCable is a sister company of ABS-CBN..But GMA complaining on the higher ratings of ABS on cable homes is definitely a propaganda from which gma is known for..Of course ABS will lead the cable homes because most of its viewers are switching to cable because of its poor signal reception..unlike gma viewers has no reason to subscribe to cable because gma signal is very clear kahit walang antenna ang tv clear pa rin ang gma..logical thinking will disprove gma claim..You have to know that part of gma dirty tactics is to attack ABS-CBN sister companies such as MERALCO, SKYCABLE, NORTH LUZON EXPRESSWAY, etc to put ABS-CBN down..I know you will not believe it coz if im right you're frame of mind is already a kapuso orientation..but our marketing manager happened to come from GMA marketing group and he shared to us this tv networks war!!!!

eh pano nmn kaya nila ipapaliwanag na nalipat ng ibang channel ang GMA sa cable without prior notice? kaya nga sila nagbayad diba?

Nagsampa ng P15-million libel suit ang GMA Network Inc. laban sa ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. ngayong umaga, January 3, sa Quezon City Regional Trial Court dahil sa diumano'y maling alegasyon ng Kapamilya Network kaugnay ng pagmamanipula sa ratings.
Ayon sa GMA Network, sa P15 million ay P10 million ang mapupunta sa moral damages, P2.5 million para sa exemplary damages, P1.5 million for attorney's fees, at P1 million para sa litigation expenses.

Bukod sa ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., ang iba pang respondents na pinangalanan sa kaso ay sina: Angelo Palmones, Alona Magsalas, Junrie Hidalgo, Jobert Sucaldito, Cristy Fermin, Luchi Cruz Valdez, Boyet Agustin, Atty. Maximillan Uy, Korina Sanchez, Malou Santos, Luis Andrada, Lani Gutierrez, Romel Gonzales, Nancy Yabut, at Ian Reyno.

Ayon sa GMA Network, sa isa sa mga report ng ABS-CBN ay iniulat nito na pinangalanan diumano ng ratings firm na AGB Nielsen ang GMA-7 bilang utak sa likod ng panunuhol sa metered households sa Bacolod para panoorin ang mga programa ng Kapuso network at impluwensiyahan ang ratings.

Sa naunang statement nito, sinabi ng GMA Network na sa report ng dzMM reporter na si Junrie Hidalgo ay inanggulahan nito na "AGB Nielsen umamin sa dayaan, GMA Network tahasang itinuro sa likod ng dayaan."

Iginiit ng GMA Network legal counsel na si Atty. Dick Perez na ang partikular na linya ang sa tingin ng Kapuso network ay libelous.

Matatandaang pinabulaanan na ng GMA Network ang naturang report, at iginiit din nila na ang mismong opisyales ng AGB Nielsen ay itinanggi ang report, at nilinis ang pangalan ng GMA-7 sa akusasyon.

"This strong denial by GMA Network comes at the heels of radio commentaries, news reports on TV and print falsely claiming that AGB named GMA Network as the network allegedly behind the TV ratings manipulation," sabi ng GMA Network sa disclosure nito sa Philippine Stock Exchange.

"The affidavit in court submitted by Maya Reforma of AGB Nielsen belied such accusation against GMA Network," sabi pa ng GMA Network, at idingadag pa nito na sa affidavit ni Reforma ay nagpapakita na ang ratings data ng AGB Nielsen ay nananatiling "accurate and reliable, untainted by alleged bribery operations."

Kinukuwestiyon ng ABS-CBN ang authenticity ng television ratings data na inilalabas araw-araw ng AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines pagkatapos lumapit ng isang informant sa Kapamilya network at sinabi nitong ang mga metered households sa Bacolod ay naimpluwensiyahan ng third party, na nakaapekto diumano sa viewing behavior ng sampled groups.

Dahil dito, nag-isyu ang Quezon City Regional trial Court ng TRO (Temprorary Restraining Order) sa AGB Nielsen sa loob ng 20 araw. Ngunit sa kabila nito ay patuloy pa rin ang pagpapalabas ng AGB Nielsen ng rating sa Mega Manila, dahil ayon sa kanila ay sa Bacolod lamang ang nasasakupan ng TRO at hindi ang iba pang panig ng bansa.

This is just a desperate move of gma to redeem their network..but AGB officer, Maya Reforma, speaks for itself! DZMM Reporter, Junry Hidalgo, just reported what Ms. Reforma said, with these gma claim has no basis..even an ordinary person could think of that! Lahat lahat na lang kasi kailangan gawin ng gma, pati paninindak ng mga ABS talents and personalities di pinatawad..hahaha..kawawang gma..naaapektuhan na ang kanilang ratings, nationwide kaya sobrang depensa sila! Kung walang gapangan sa kaso, walang basehan at patutunguhan ang demanda ng gma against ABS-CBN! MORE POWER MGA KAPAMILYA! :)

They were discussing lipatan issues. Something abt Cristine Reyes. Kasi ang pumalit ata sa role ni Cristine Reyes sa Joaquin Bordado eh si Iwa Moto. Aba. Ano daw ba pronlema kung second choice lang. eh bakit daw si Alwina (obvious na si Angel Locsin sa Mulawin noon) eh sumikat ng husto. Kasi yung sa ABS CBN never ko pa napanood dahil sa mukhang once in a blue moon lang nila ipinalalabas yung counter statement nila sa GMA TV ad.... sa You Tube ko pa lang napanood at astig ang pagkakapresent at pagpapaliwanag... pawang detalyadong katotohanan at hindi panghihikayat at pagpapakaawa effect ang laman...

Yup..leave it to DTI... sana wala na ding makisawsaw na mga Senador na nakikipag unahan sa probing para lang masabi na may na-accomplished sila... dapat talaga inimbestigahan na ng DTI yang Wilyonaryo na yan long before tinanggal yang portion na yan... para may real time checking silang magawa sa set at hindi yung mga videos lang ang pagbabasehan ng imbestigasyon.... pag napatunayan.. panagutin ang mga tao sa likod ng show na ito dahil hindi magandang halimbawa yan lalo na't maraming umaasa na mapapaginhawa ang buhay nila sa game show na ito tapos may "dayaan" palang nangyayari... same goes to other game shows na may malalaking chances of makapandaya... sana maging lesson na ito sa iba pang shows of the same format... gumawa na lang sila ng portion na tulad ng sa deal or no deal na talagang no chance na makapandaya... hindi ibig sabihin na yung deal or no deal format... yung tipong mga games na wala na yung mga takip takip para no chance talaga na i switch o may 2 numbers sa isang kahon or kung ano pa mandin yung gamit na taguan ng numbers.. atleast yung pinagugulong na bola na may mga dice sa Wowowee... no chance na makapandaya.. pure luck lang talaga!...

IT’S the season to be jolly, but not for the country’s two top networks who are in a suing mood. as the network war rages on, making it all a legal battle.

ABS filmed a P63 million suit against AGB Nielsen Media for alleged manipulation of the ratings.

GMA-7, in turn, filed a libel case against ABS for alleging that GMA-7 was behind the rigging of the ratings as reported in DzMM which said “AGB Nielsen, umamin sa dayaan. GMA Network tahasang itinurong nasa likod ng dayaan.”
Rikki Escudero, head of GMA Regional TV, says: “GMA Network strongly denies the baseless accusation that it is behind the ratings rigging alleged by an unnamed ABS-CBN informant.”

AGB Nielsen seeks protection for panel homes

AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines on Friday asked the Quezon City Regional Trial Court to stop ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. from calling on AGB Nielsen panel home members to come out and reveal their names.

AGB Nielsen lawyer Francisco Rivera said the research firm filed a motion for protective order before the sala of Judge Charito Gonzalez to stop ABS-CBN from asking existing panel home members from revealing themselves.

“The very case of ABS-CBN is about panel home privacy. They are saying that there was a breach in the integrity of the panel homes because their names were disclosed. But based on the programs and appeals of ABS-CBN Corporation, they are appealing to the panel home members to come out. That is why we are asking the court for relief,” he told ABS-CBN.

He added, however, that the research firm is not questioning ABS-CBN’s efforts to contact tampered panel homes in the Visayas region.

“As things stand now, the panel homes which had some form of contact with the other TV station [are] no longer actively in our panel home members meaning that the data from these panel homes are no longer gathered by our client. Insofar as we are concerned, this is no longer material to us,” he said.

Rivera confirmed that “promotional activities” were conducted by another TV station that affected panel home members in the provinces. He added, however, that it is up to the court to decide if the activities constitute tampering.

He said AGB Nielsen has already finished its investigation into the tampering issue and will issue a final report next week.

ABS-CBN earlier sued AGB-Nielsen after receiving reports that a third party was contacting and bribing metered households in Bacolod in an effort to influence the TV ratings. The court later ordered AGB Nielsen to stop gathering and releasing data on nationwide TV ratings for 20 days.

Several affidavits filed by Maya Reforma, AGB-Nielsen general manager, before the QCRTC identified GMA 7 as the broadcast network behind the efforts that compromised panel homes in Bacolod.

In her affidavit, Reforma revealed that AGB Nielsen found 79 among 532 AGB Nielsen metered homes in six cities were exposed to "activities" of GMA.

Reforma said the 79 panel homes were persuaded to watch GMA shows in exchange for monthly prizes including P500 in cash, groceries, umbrellas, pens and medicine.

"Panel homes who declare themselves to be watching ABS-CBN are asked to become a member of the GMA Kapuso viewers in order to receive a monthly supply of groceries and P500," she said, describing one of the activities.

She added that of the 79 homes, 63 homes were visited once while 16 were visited twice or more times.

She said statistical tests conducted by AGB Nielsen showed that 16 of the 79 homes "showed a significant change to favor GMA in its viewing behavior."

She noted, however, that the evidence obtained by AGB Nielsen "strongly indicates that the tampering was confined to Bacolod and for the period from July to September 2007."

She said the research firm reprocessed all the original data it gathered from the television audience measurement panel while excluding the tampered households contacted by GMA Network. "Based on our evaluation, AGB Nielsen found that viewing data did not significantly change even after the exclusion of the contacted panels from the original data," she said.

She said, however, that the exclusion of 12 tampered homes in Cebu "caused some days to expected drop for GMA [ratings] but not at the expense of ABS-CBN which remained the same."

Reforma told the court that AGB-Nielsen has replaced the 79 tampered homes from its television audience measurement panel. "We are also considering removing Iloilo as a sampling point," she added.

GMA sues ABS-CBN

GMA Network on Thursday filed a P15 million libel suit against ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. executives and talents for allegedly accusing GMA of tampering metered households of research firm AGB Nielsen.

In a statement, GMA said that "nowhere in Ms. Reforma’s affidavit submitted in court did she accuse or state that GMA-7 cheated in the ratings nor was it involved in the ‘ratings manipulation’ in Bacolod City…"

"In reckless disregard of truth, with malice and in bad faith, and with obvious intent to defame and ridicule GMA Network before the public, ABS-CBN distorted, spliced off, and suppressed the accurate and complete statements of Ms. Reforma," GMA said.

Aside from the network, other respondents in the charge sheet were radio dzMM station manager Angelo Palmones, Alona Magsalas, Junry Hidalgo, Jobert Sucaldito, Cristie Fermin, Luchi Cruz Valdez, Boyet Agustin, lawyer Maximillan Uy, Korina Sanchez, Malou Santos, Luis Andrada, Lani Gutierrez, Romel Gonzales, Nancy Yabut and Ian Reyno.

GMA earlier branded as libelous a report by DZMM correspondent Junry Hidalgo that AGB Nielsen named GMA Network as the network allegedly behind the TV ratings manipulation. The network has denied that it was behind the alleged rigging of AGB Nielsen ratings in Bacolod.

ABS-CBN, however, said it is standing by Hidalgo's report. "We stand by our report in DZMM. Maya Reforma, in her interview with DZMM's Junry Hidalgo this morning, identified GMA-7 as behind certain activities that resulted in exposing the affected panel homes," said ABS-CBN spokesman Bong Osorio.

He said the P15-million libel suit is meant to divert attention away from the issue of TV ratings manipulation.

"We are disappointed but not surprised by GMA-7's reactions to the discovery of TV ratings manipulation. It appears that they want to prevent the media from mentioning GMA 7 in connection with cheating in the ratings," Osorio said.

"Let's remember that the issue here is about having a clean TV ratings process, the reason we filed a civil case against AGB-Nielsen Media Research. Filing defamation charges against ABS-CBN diverts attention from the real issue. We are confident that the truth will come out," he added.

Furthermore, in Reforma’s affidavit submitted to the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, she admitted that GMA-7 was involved in "tampering" with the panel homes and that "79 of the 532 homes interviewed from the 6 cities were confirmed by panel homes to have been exposed to efforts by GMA."

Let’s remember that the issue here is about having a clean TV ratings process, the reason we filed a civil case against AGB-Nielsen Media Research. Filing defamation charges against ABS-CBN diverts attention from the real issue. We are confident that the truth will come out.

Nilinaw ni Atty. Francisco Rivera, abugado ng AGB-Nielsen Media Research na batay sa isinagawang imbestigasyon ng AGB natukoy ang GMA Network na siya umanong kumontak ng panel homes sa visayas.

“Partial results of the investigation is already with the court and there's a mention there regarding the promotional activities that's done by GMA,” pahayag ni Rivera.

Ang panel homes ang nilalagyan ng AGB panel meter na ginagamit sa pagsukat ng TV ratings.

Sabi pa ni Rivera, nakasaad sa mga dokumentong isinumite nila sa korte ang resulta ng imbestigasyon ng AGB.

Batay sa mga dokumentong isinumite ng AGB sa korte, kinumpirma sa AGB ng ilang panel homes na kasama sa activities ng GMA ay ginawang miyembro ng GMA "Kapuso" ang mga manonood ng ABS-CBN para makatanggap ng buwanang supply ng groceries at P500.

Nakasaad din sa summary of audit findings nila na 79 na panel homes ang na-expose sa activities ng GMA.

Inalis na ng AGB sa bagong listahan ng panel homes ang mga tahanang nakontak umano ng GMA network.

“The panel homes with have some form of contact with the other TV station is no longer actively in our panel home members, meaning that the data from these panel homes are no longer being gathered by our client,” sabi ni Rivera.

Naghain din ng motion for protective order ang AGB kung saan hiniling nito sa korte na pahintuin ang ABS-CBN sa ine-ere nitong patalastas na nag-iimbita sa mga manonood na tumawag sa telepono kapag may nanghikayat sa kanilang baguhin ang kanilang TV viewing behavior.

Sabi ng AGB, mabubunyag daw kasi kung alin at saan ang panel homes at makokompromiso ang kanilang confidentiality.

Labag daw ito sa kanilang kasunduan sa kanilang mga kliyente at panel home members.

Pero sabi ng ABS-CBN, wala silang nilalabag.

“Hindi natin masiguro kung iyung ibang panel homes sa ibang lugar sa Pilipinas at hindi lang sa Visayas ay nalapitan na rin noong istasyon tinutukoy,” ayon naman kay Atty. Max Uy, chief legal counsel ng ABS-CBN Corp.

Nilinaw ng ABS-CBN, ang pahayag ay para lamang sa corrupted panel homes na maaring nilapitan ng ibang istasyon.

Hiniling ang GMA na sana ang ABS-CBN RATING PLUGS ay mahinto na, pero sila todo naman sa pangongontra. :sigh:

So, maaagang matatapos ang YSABELLA? Sabi nun sa FEB pa. Okay nadin siguro ang takbo. So papalitan ito ng LOBO then SINESERYE ay PALOS. KUNG FU KIDS nadin ang isusunod.

Nakakatawa naman talaga ang mga pangyayari ngayon. Nun masasabi nating di kapanipaniwala ang ratings dahil di ito tumutugma sa sold-out concerts, blockbuster movies, platinum albums, dagsang mallshows...etc

speaking of gina, i watched SSS last night and i enjoyed the movie so much. laughtrip talaga si gina, she should win an award for that role. and the kid Rafa is so adorableeeeeeeeee. grabe! ang sarap i hug, i kiss, i pinch, lahat na lang gusto ko gawin sa kanya. he's so cute talaga! i wonder why they got him, not some kids from goin bulilit, marami naman sila dun but why pick that kid? i'm just wondering! hehe

ABS-CBN overhauls programming

ABS-CBN’s New Year blast started with the return of Pera O Bayong in Willie Revillame’s Wowowee as the initial salvo to introduce its revamped programming for 2008. Regular shows will be reformatted as new ones with powerhouse casting will be introduced. Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition (Season 2) and Ysabella will bow out to give way to the new show introductions. Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara, the first installment from the Susan Roces Collection starring Susan and Kris Aquino, will be launched on Jan. 7. Deal of No Deal will give way to Wheel of Fortune with Kris Aquino as host. Other shows scheduled for a January opening are the much-awaited team up of Piolo Pascual and Angel Locsin in Lobo on Jan. 14, Jake Cuenca in the title role of Palos, the first starrer of child wonder Jarius Aquino entitled Kung Fu Kids, and the Saturday show Volta: The Series as headlined by Ai Ai delas Alas as directed by Wenn Deramas on Jan. 26. Astig will also replace Abt Ur Luv (Ur Lyf 2) on Jan. 12. When the bangs are done, this revamp will have overhauled ABS-CBN’s programming.

Several ABS-CBN shows are ending this January or a little after (beginning with PBB Celebrity Edition 2 which bowed out of the air last night). Among the shows soon to end include the Judy Ann Santos starrer "Ysabella" and Kris Aquino’s "Deal or No Deal."

But these shows will be replaced by equally exciting shows, like the horror series "Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara" (starring Ms. Susan Roces and Kris Aquino) to take over the timeslot of PBB Celebrity Edition 2, "Palos" (Cesar Montano and Jake Cuenca),"Kung Fu Kids," "Volta" (Ai Ai Delas Alas) and "Wheel of Fortune" to be hosted by Kris Aquino of course.

Good suggestions! Mas maganda gumawa ang Star Cinema ng horror movie or fantasy like Magic Temple! I hope gawan ng movie ang Maging Sino Ka Man kasi powerful cast ito, im sure papatok ito, tataubin ang Sukob.. Good move din na pagsamahin ang mga big stars ng ABS basta best staff ang maghahandle ng story ng project!

Good suggestions! Mas maganda gumawa ang Star Cinema ng horror movie or fantasy like Magic Temple! I hope gawan ng movie ang Maging Sino Ka Man kasi powerful cast ito, im sure papatok ito, tataubin ang Sukob.. Good move din na pagsamahin ang mga big stars ng ABS basta best staff ang maghahandle ng story ng project!

Alam nating lahat na halos gawang SC ay pumapatok, so kung gusto nilang sumali sa isang Movie Festival, gumawa dapat ng isang obra at powerful castings! YUN! For sure. ^_^

Ilang beses ko ring napanood ang Magic Temple sa TV, kadalasan ipinapalas on Holy Week. May nag suggest pa nga na gawan ng sequel ang Magic Temple on ABS-CBN FORUMS, pero wala gaanung interesado, ilan kasi di alam ang nabanggit na pelikula.

GMA Broadcasting Network through its legal counsel, Gener Asuncion filed the damage suit last January 3 against its rival network, ABS-CBN for allegedly accusing them as behind the rigging, manipulation of TV ratings in Bacolod City.

Aside from ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network, also named defendants were dzMM station manager Angelo Palmones; dzMM news manager Alona Magsalas; dzMM reporter Junrie Hidalgo; “Showbiz Mismo" hosts Jobert Sucaldito and Cristy Fermin; news program Bandila production head Luchi Cruz Valdez and Bandila Executive produce Boyet Agustin.

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court today has dismissed the case filed by broadcasting giant ABS CBN against AGB Nielsen on grounds of technicality.

The network earlier filed for a temporary restraining order against AGB after it failed to investigate tampering of ratings in Bacolod City. An informant approached them that a certain network was influencing it viewers to switch channels trough incentives such as groceries and money.

Aside from the dismissal of the case, the court has ordered the company to answer the charges filed by rival station GMA 7 after it was aired over dzMM that they were the network that was said to be behind the cheating in Bacolod.

GMA 7 is suing ABS for P15 million in damages.

Pwede pa ba magfile ang ABS ng Motion for reconsideration or whatever? Kase di ba late na lumantad yung ibang witnesses.

But still the fact remains na galing mismo sa AGB that their was tampering according to their own investigation.

Meron naman kahit papaano.

Sa dalawang magkahiwalay na imbestigasyon ng ABS-CBN and AGB, there was really a tampering of ratings. Kaya lang may butas lang yung unang inireklamo. Kahit di inangayunan ng mga Kapuso (probably), may parte parin ang GMA sa nasabing issue. Wag na nating ikaila pa.

I dont think so.

Ang unang reklamo at ang totoong reklamo ay 'kung bakit na-exposed ang mga PANEL HOMES'. It should be kept confidential. At dahil nga sa nangyari, eh inireklamo ng ABS-CBN ang AGB. Di naman nasabihing isang AGB member/employee, specifically, pagbabasehan kundi damay ang buong company. TOOOO long story, in short may nangyaring di kaaya-aya. Di na kailangang sabihin pa. ^_^

"Panel homes who declare themselves to be watching ABS-CBN are asked to become a member of the GMA Kapuso viewers in order to receive a monthly supply of groceries and P500," she said, describing one of the activities.

She added that of the 79 homes, 63 homes were visited once while 16 were visited twice or more times.

She said statistical tests conducted by AGB Nielsen showed that 16 of the 79 homes "showed a significant change to favor GMA in its viewing behavior."

She noted, however, that the evidence obtained by AGB Nielsen "strongly indicates that the tampering was confined to Bacolod and for the period from July to September 2007."

Reforma told the court that AGB Nielsen has replaced the 79 tampered homes from its television audience measurement panel. "We are also considering removing Iloilo as a sampling point," she added.

GMA lauds court decision

GMA Network lauded the court's decision to junk ABS-CBN's lawsuit against AGB Nielsen.

Puno said the GMA Network libel suit is separate from the lawsuit filed by ABS-CBN against AGB Nielsen.

"That's a separate civil case. In fact, ABS-CBN did not file a case other than AGB. If [GMA Nework] felt alluded to and certain statements were made - that will also be answered in due course. That's a separate proceeding," he said.

hindi lang yan. di ba may bago uling lumitaw na testigo na talaga naman binabribe sila para lang manuod ng GMA shows. kahit naman iedit ng dos yung "GMA" alam naman nating GMA talaga yung sinasabi ng mga testigo. kung tutuusin, sapat na yung ebidensya. ayaw pa kc aminin ng GMA, may nangyayari talagang milagro. hindi ko naman direktang inaakusahan ang 7, kc possible din naman na hindi alam ng higher management ng 7 yung ganung dayaan. pero di ba, saan naman sila kukuha ng pang bribe, di ba sa taong nasa posisyon din ng 7. eto ay, opinyon ko lang naman. sorry po sa makakabasa na maka siyete. nagpapalitan lang naman tayo ng kuro-kuro, para naman at least mabalanse natin ang mga pangyayari.pasasaan bat lilitaw din ang totoo.

I just watched Bandila, and based on ABS-CBN statement, the junking of ABS-CBN case is due to technicalities and not on substance..Based on the report, the court said that the filing of case by ABS-CBN against AGB is premature and should wait for 90 days for AGB to say their side..Even the AGB lawyer said from the interview that the court hasn't decided or resolved the case yet, instead it is just junked due to technalities..this means that ABS-CBN has still the chance to file a motion for reconsideration of the case, and with technicalities complied and with new witnesses we hope that the court will favor ABS-CBN kasi obvious na naman ang mga ebidensya! sana walang gapangan na mangyari, knowing that one of the Board of Directors of GMA Network is the former Supreme Court Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban..well, our omnipresent God is still there, Who knows who is doing the cheating and the so-called UNFAIR COMPETITION! :)

Asa naman yung GMA magsama pa kayo ng AGB. tsaka mas wala namang substance yung lawsuit ng GMA Libel/Defammation daw o pinakita na yung full unedited wala pa rin ba silang narinig na sinabi ni Maya reforma na GMA was the one behind.

Kaya lang ibinasura ng RTC ay dahil premature pa daw that they will need months. bat di na lang kasi magharap na sa korte para magkaalaman na

Siguro kung binibigyan mo ng chance ang sarili mo na panoorin ang TV Plugging ng ABS regarding the issue... maliwanag pa sa clear na AGB's GM Maya Reforma pinpointed GMA at hindi edited ang video na yun..too bad kasi kagabi simula TV Patrol hanggang MSKM.. di ko nakita yung TV Ad na yun pero there are uploaded videos in You Tube.. go and check them out...if ever the accusation of GMA is true that the video is edited... Maya Reforma has the full right to file a case against ABS for splicing and manipulating her statement dahil ine-air ang kanyang statement on the national television and she can fully claim that it is tampered and edited.... since the video is fully supported by the hard copy of the affidavit that AGB issued maliwanag pa sa sikat ng araw na AGB name-dropped GMA... let's be fair... hear both sides first and then balance things the way they should be... and make a fair and intelligent decision...

like what I said before suggest a case or cases that ABS could have filed againts GMA para matupad yung sinasabi mo na Square-off.
Hindi pa sa AGB may contract ang ABS kaya sila ang dinemanda its not what you think na nagtatago.
In the first place hindi dapat madadamay ang GMA kung hindi nila sinali ang istasyon nila or Maya Reforma should not have blurted out the name of the station.

Basta straight ng Primetime Bida napanood ko kagabi..:D

Actually hindi ko na talaga napapanood ang kahit anong series na nasa timeslot beyond 10 PM... I need to sleep na din kasi maaga pa ang pasok ko for tomorrow... I know a lot of Kapamilya out there na mga nagtatrabaho na ganito din ang siste... kahit sobrang ganda ng palabas... sinasacrifice na lang namin para maganda disposisyon kinabukasan... pero kung kaya naman magpuyat... hanggang The Correspondents/Probe/Noypi/SOCO/Trip na Trip eh pinapanood ko naman..yun nga lang .. hindi regular...

THE DISPUTE over ratings may still be raging, but that won’t stop ABS-CBN which is broadcasted in the UAE through The Filipino Channel, from going ahead with its plans to premiere several new shows,

Palos

An action-adventure series, Palos is based on the 1962 movie of the same title, in which Charlene Gonzales’s father Bernard Bonnin played the lead role. This time, though, it will be Cesar Montano, fresh from the success of the first season of Pinoy Mano-Mano, who will be taking on the role of the master thief who is an expert at lock-picking. Also co-starring are Roxanne Guinoo and Jake Cuenca, who will play Sylvia and Fabio respectively.

Patayin Sa Sindak si Barbara

This story of relationships and strange hauntings stars “Horror Queen” Kris Aquino in the role of Barbara, played in the original film by Susan herself. This will be Kris’s third show on ABS-CBN, after Boy and Kris and the also soon-to-premiere game show Wheel of Fortune.

A day after a Quezon City court dismissed ABS-CBN’s P63-million damage and breach of contract complaint against AGB Nielsen Media Research (Philippines), Inc., the ratings firm on Tuesday asked the court to cite the broadcast company in contempt for airing misleading information on the ratings row.

In a petition filed before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 216 Judge Ofelia Marquez, Francisco Rivera, AGB Nielsen’s legal counsel, said ABS-CBN erred in airing portions of an earlier court order that has, in effect, portrayed the research firm “as having to cease and desist from pursuing its nationwide TAM (television audience measurement) data gathering activities."

“Instead of being accurate in its reporting, the ABS-CBN abused its clout as a broadcaster to engage in an intense media campaign to publicly vilify the petitioner (AGB Nielsen) and gain public sympathy for its cause, evidently to advance its private interest as litigant," AGB Nielsen said.

AGB Nielsen argued that ABS-CBN’s graphics that were aired in some of its shows omitted the key qualifying phrase “from corrupted home panels," making it appear that the research firm’s data-gathering and data-delivery services were totally stopped.

The survey firm noted that the said graphics were aired over ABS-CBN’s news programs Bandila and Umagang Kay Ganda on December 20 and 21 last year, respectively.

The information was lifted from the December 20, 2007 order of QCRTC Branch 80 Judge Charito Gonzales granting the temporary restraining order sought by the ABS-CBN over the ratings dispute.

“The insertion of an ellipsis (…) in place of the qualifying phrase in respondent’s graphics misrepresents the contents and the import of the court order. Respondent (ABS-CBN) is not ignorant of the meaning of the qualifying phrase considering that it is found in paragraph 4.4 and the prayer of its own complaint," AGB Nielsen said, referring to the broadcast company’s P63-million damage suit.

AGB Nielsen further stressed that aside from misinterpreting the court order, ABS-CBN also accused the research firm of having violated the terms of Judge Gonzales’ order. The said accusations were aired at news program Bandila and show biz talk show, The BUZZ on December 21 and 23, 2007, respectively.

The survey firm maintained that it did not violate the terms of the Court order as it ceased from gathering data from corrupted home panels, and neither did it release data from these home panels.

In its petition, AGB Nielsen said that it is entitled to have its case tried fairly by an impartial court uninfluenced by public clamor.

The petitioner further stressed that the respondent’s act not only violated the sub judice rule, but also threatens the integrity of the judicial proceedings pending before Branch 80.

“Respect for due process and the orderly administration of justice, the petitioner prayed that the respondent be declared in contempt and punished accordingly," the petitioner prayed. - GMANews.TV
