Ara Mina accepts a role in Prinsesa ng Banyera

When Ara Mina first appeared on Wowowee as guest host, everybody asked the big question: Has she transferred to ABS-CBN?

Now everybody's curiosity will even get more intensified when they see Ara Mina on ABS-CBN's afternoon drama (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=771574#), "Prinsesa ng Banyera," early next year.

So is the sexy actress officially a Kapamilya?

The answer to that is no... at least not yet.

Ara is a freelance actress, meaning she does not have an exclusive contract to either network (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=771574#), although she is highly associated with GMA-7.

Ara revealed that what prompted her to accept the offer in Banyera is because she missed doing drama.

Court freezes AGB Nielsen ratings for 20 days

The Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Thursday ordered AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines, Inc. to stop gathering and releasing data on nationwide TV ratings for 20 days.

Judge Charito Gonzales of the QCRTC Branch 80 issued the temporary restraining order based on a civil complaint filed by ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network Corp. against the research firm. The case stems from an unnamed informant's claim that another TV network identified and bribe metered households in Bacolod City to influence AGB Nielsen's nationwide TV ratings.

"[AGB Nielsen] is ordered to cease and desist from pursuing its nationwide [television audience measurement] data gathering activities from corrupted home panels and delivering, releasing or making known the resulting TAM data to its clients or the general public within 20 days from the issuance of this order," the ruling said.

In his ruling, Gonzales said AGB Nielsen managing director Maya Reforma admitted that some households tapped for the research firm's television audience measurement (TAM) panel had been identified and tampered by another network.

The judge said he found basis in ABS-CBN's claim that the integrity of the TV ratings data had been compromised. This, despite Reforma's statement that the tampering "was confined to a certain locality and that the MEGATAM service was wholly unaffected."

"Under the service contract between the parties, the defendant was under obligation to ensure that confidentiality of the panel homes and accuracy and reliability of the TAM data. Maya Reforma, the managing director of the defendant, even admitted that there was tampering of panel homes which was the subject of an investigation," Gonzales said.

The court is set to hear AGB Nielsen's motion to dismiss ABS-CBN's civil complaint on December 21. The court also ordered the two parties to submit affidavits of their witnesses before the Jan. 7, 2008 hearing on the injunctive aspect of the case.

ABS-CBN sued AGB Nielsen last December 14 after the research firm continued the release weekly TV ratings even after confirming the breach.

Vivian Tin, ABS-CBN Research and Business Analysis chief, thanked the court for issuing the TRO. "From the research side, we are just relieved that the courts saw something about all the documents that we submitted, and granted the TRO," she told ANC.

Tin said ABS-CBN informed AGB Nielsen about the bribery attempts last November 20. She said the network urged the research agency to stop the release of erroneous data and resume release only when they can guarantee its integrity.

She said the network filed the P63 million civil suit against AGB Nielsen after the firm continued to release the weekly TV ratings without cleansing the nationwide panel.

[b]79 homes tampered in six cities[/b]

Tin said AGB Nielsen provides nationwide TV ratings by tapping 1,670 "metered" homes all over the country. "Usually, to get a base of 1,670 homes, you would need at least a 10 to 20 percent buffer so it's closer to 2000, about 1800 homes," she said.

Tin said AGB Nielsen conducted its own investigation and found at least 79 of its metered homes that were breached by another network.

In her affidavit, Reforma said the 79 were among 532 metered homes in six cities interviewed by the research firm to confirm the alleged bribery attempts. She said the 532 homes comprised 100 percent of all AGB Nielsen metered homes in the six cities.

[b]Of the 79 tampered homes, 27 were from Iloilo, 18 were from Bacolod, 12 from Cebu, 13 in Davao, four in Dagupan and five in Cagayan de Oro.[/b]

[b]She said all 79 panel homes admitted being exposed to "activities" of GMA Network, the main competitor of ABS-CBN, She said the panel homes were persuaded to watch GMA shows in exchange for monthly prizes including P500 in cash, groceries, umbrellas, pens and medicine.[/b]

"[b]Panel homes who declare themselves to be watching ABS-CBN are asked to become a member of the GMA Kapuso viewers in order to receive a monthly supply of groceries and P500," she said, describing one of the activities. [/b]

She added that of the 79 homes, 63 homes were visited once while 16 were visited twice or more times.

She said statistical tests conducted by AGB Nielsen showed that 16 of the 79 homes "showed a significant change to favor GMA in its viewing behavior."

She noted, however, that the evidence obtained by AGB Nielsen "strongly indicates that the tampering was confined to Bacolod and for the period from July to September 2007."

She said the research firm reprocessed all the original data it gathered from the TAM panel while excluding the tampered households contacted by GMA Network. "Based on our evaluation, AGB Nielsen found that viewing data did not significantly change even after the exclusion of the contacted panels from the original data," she said.

She said, however, that the exclusion of 12 tampered homes in Cebu "caused some days to expected drop for GMA [ratings] but not at the expense of ABS-CBN which remained the same."

She said the firm also commissioned a coincidental survey involving thousands of survey respondents in various cities and provinces. "The coincidental survey confirmed that viewing trends/patterns were consistent with panel data in respect to the GMA, ABS and Overall viewing levels," she said.

Reforma said AGB Nielsen has replaced the 79 tampered homes from its TAM panel. "We are also considering removing Iloilo as a sampling point," she added.

She said the research firm is also consulting with industry stakeholders "to develop clear guidelines to broadcasters regarding their activities."

Tin said that from a sampling standpoint, 79 tampered homes from 532 homes in six cities is significant.

"That's about 14.8 percent of the 532 homes. [AGB Nielsen] says that it has no impact on the data. I don't think they have grounds to say that until they replace all those homes and rerun and they can only do that after checking the entire panel," she said.

She also pointed out that a one percent difference in the ratings is significant because of the size of the broadcasting business. "A small percent is a big amount of money so it's very hard to make judgment on what is big or what is small," she added.

She said the breach also opens up questions about current and future effects of tampering. "Once your homes are identified, you don't know where and when they are going be visited. It's not only a current breach, there's going to be a continuing breach because the identity is already out." she said.

"So the important thing is to clean, identify everyone in the national panel that was breached and clean the panel homes," she added.

GMA to file libel suit

On Thursday, GMA Network, Inc. said it will file a libel suit against ABS-CBN, its radio station dzMM, and one of the radio station's reporters over false allegations of ratings manipulation.

A story on the GMA Web site said the network's legal team found libelous the report made by dzMM reporter Junry Hidalgo alleging GMA's manipulation of ratings in Bacolod City. GMA legal counsel **** Perez said Hidalgo erroneously reported that AGB Nielsen named GMA Network as the brains behind an operation to bribe metered households in Bacolod to watch GMA shows and influence the ratings.

Hidalgo's report was angled: "AGB Nielsen umamin sa dayaan, GMA Network tahasang itinuro sa likod ng dayaan." Perez identified this line as what GMA Network specifically found libelous.

ABS-CBN, however, said it is standing by Hidalgo's report. "We stand by our report in DZMM. Maya Reforma, in her interview with DZMM's Junry Hidalgo this [Wednesday] morning, identified GMA-7 as behind certain activities that resulted in exposing the affected panel homes," said ABS-CBN spokesman Bong Osorio.

"Please note that the civil case ABS-CBN filed last Friday, December 14 was against AGB-Nielsen Media Research Philippines and not against any other party," he added.

GMA earlier denied that it was behind the alleged rigging of AGB Nielsen ratings in Bacolod. The network also quoted an affidavit by Reforma that "there is no evidence that shows any significant impact on NUTAM data as a result of the activities purportedly launched by GMA Network."

GMA also denied that it had employed the alleged informant of ABS-CBN.

The ABS-CBN informant said he was hired to conduct the bribery operation late last year. At least seven people were allegedly involved in the operation to bribe metered households in Bacolod, he said.

He said they were able to identify the metered households by following a certain Edward who was assigned by AGB Nielsen to install the TV meters in Bacolod. He said they used motorbikes to follow Edward who usually rode a multi-cab with the plate number GNU-107 when going to the NUTAM households. He said Edward did not know he was being followed.

The informant said that after the meters were installed, their group then approached the members of the household and told them to switch to another channel in exchange for P500 in cash plus groceries. He added that many of the people they approached accepted the bribes because of financial hardship.

The informant said he was given a monthly salary of P6,200 plus P115 cellphone load allowance to conduct the operation. He said he and other members in the bribery operation received instructions from a "backchecker" from Iloilo.

He said he was able to identify 89 metered households when he was still working for the bribery operation.

The informant said their group also monitored metered households chosen by TNS-Trends but later focused on AGB Nielsen households because their employer wanted to influence the ratings. He said their employer wanted to cut down on ABS-CBN's lead in nationwide TV ratings by tampering with the viewing habits of metered households in Bacolod. A diversionary tactic?

Meanwhile, the "hit" YouTube video of "Wowowee’s" Wilyonaryo seen as "Kita Mo" is nothing but a rehearsal done way before the game peaked to a full-blown controversy months back. This, ABS-CBN clarified to the Bulletin in a phone interview with the network’s Corporate Communications head Bong Osorio.

"It was taped long before everything started. Even before Wilyonaryo became controversial because we rehearse portions sa lahat ng klase ng games para sa blocking at para maayos. We knew about this video since last week but I personally only checked it when you called our attention to it," Osorio said last Wednesday.

The Corporate Communications head also denied insinuations by the bloggers and the video that even the reactions of the contestants were planned. "It’s not true. The issue about Wilyonaryo has taken a back seat long ago. It’s strange for it to come out these days."

Osorio disclosed to the Bulletin that ABS-CBN is currently probing the video, particularly the source of the "Kita Mo." "We are doing our investigation about the matter and rest assured, we will get to the bottom of this issue."

Osorio described the timing by which the video came out to be "uncanny." "Because it was posted right after Willie (Revillame, host of "Wowowee") said his piece about the case ABS–CBN filed against AGB Nielsen Media Research alleging that there were "manipulations" involved in Nielsen’s system.

"I really felt at first that they were connected, Willie’s statement and the YouTube video. Like what I said, the timing is uncanny. Even the persons involved in the issue like Willie and even Joey de Leon have moved on."

According to ABS-CBN’s camp the network people are really busy these days with their hands filled with the case they filed against Nielsen Media, which to ABS-CBN, is the "real issue."

However, the biggest irony in this media battlefield is that both networks are fighting for the same cause, protecting their integrity.

The Philippine Association of National Advertisers on Friday expressed fear over news that nationwide TV ratings are allegedly being tampered and manipulated to favor a particular broadcast network.

PANA president Raul Alvarez said the reported irregularities have a major impact on the advertising industry. He said TV ratings determine both market share and target demographics, which are essential tools for any advertising campaign.

He said that any tampering of the TV ratings could lead to wrong placement of ads in TV shows, which could lead to millions of pesos in losses.

Alvarez said advertisers would rather conduct their own surveys for their ad campaigns than lose money on possibly tainted market information.

He, however, remained confident that the issue of tampered or manipulated ratings against AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines by network giant ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network Corp. will be resolved soon.

ABS-CBN sued AGB Nielsen last week for continuing to release possibly tainted nationwide TV ratings despite information that metered households used to gauge the ratings might have been bribed.

On Friday, a Quezon City judge gave ABS-CBN five days to file its comment on the AGB Nielsen's petition to dismiss the network’s P63-million civil case against the research agency.

First it was ABS-CBN versus rival network, GMA 7. Now it’s The Philippine Star and the Philippine Daily Inquirer that are arguing.

The Star said on Friday that it stands by its claim that more advertisers are reaching consumers through the paper than any other major daily, reacting to a front-page story in the Inquirer alleging that it was making false claims.

It has stopped the publication of an advertisement making claims on its advertising reach after it became the subject of a complaint by the Inquirer. But the Star said it will continue to print similar advertisements, with the visuals presented differently.

Lucien Dy Tioco, the Star’s vice-president for advertising, said they have proof to support their claim made in the ad, which came out November 29 and carried the headline “More advertisers are reaching consumers through The Philippine Star than any other major daily.”

Dy Tioco added that the claim was supported by data from the Nielsen Media Research and was already presented to the Adboard.

The Adboard has issued a cease-and-desist order on December 6, stopping the publication of the Star’s ad for allegedly making “unsubstantiated” claims on its advertising reach and for containing images allegedly “disparaging” to its competitors.

The order was issued in response to a complaint filed by the Inquirer, one of the two other papers depicted in the disputed ad.

The advertisement features a top-view image of three people sharing a small roundtable and each reading a different newspaper. The papers were arranged in a way that they divide the table into three parts, resembling a pie graph.

The Star took up a larger part of the table area than the other papers, implying that it takes the larger portion in the pie graph.

The text at the lower-fold of the ad read, “The Nielsen Media Research Print Advertising Information Service shows that when it comes to advertising, we have a bigger slice of the pie than the other major newspapers.”

The advertising agency McCann Erickson disputed that claim, saying “the data presented does not indicate ‘more advertisers’ are reaching consumers through the Star, only that more ad space is purchased.

The Inquirer also complained that the inclusion of their paper and Manila Bulletin in the “misleading” ad had “cast doubts” on their performance despite both of them having a higher readership than the Star.

According to an article published Friday by the Inquirer, the ad’s visualization of the other major daily newspapers violates Section 2.1, Article 4 of the Adboard Code of Ethics, which says “no ad may disparage a direct competitor [same product] or indirect competitor [direct substitute] to make the competitor look unfavorable.”

Dy Tioco said the cease-and-desist order stopping the publication of the advertisement was issued because of the way the ad was presented, not because of the content or the idea of the ad.

“The problem is on the presentation of the ad, not on the advertising reach claim. We will continue to publish the other version of the ad,” he added.

Meanwhile, Inquirer Publisher Isagani Yambot said they still have to read the explanation given by the Star to the Adboard before making a reaction.

The Star-Inquirer dispute over the true figures on the papers’ advertising reach is not the only recent case of media organizations arguing on who performs better in terms of reaching the public.

Last week, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. filed a civil case against AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines for the latter’s gathering and releasing of allegedly erroneous ratings data.

ABS-CBN also linked rival television network GMA 7 to the alleged tampering of TV ratings meters in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, as allegedly claimed by an official of AGB Nielsen Media Research

We welcome the decision of the court ordering AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines to stop data gathering and reporting TV ratings surveys in the next 20 days.

While we are glad that the court has affirmed our discovery of a systematic and organized attempt to cheat in the ratings, it pains us to disclose that more and more panel households have confirmed the claims of our informant that they have been approached to change their viewing habits in exchange for money and groceries.

There is a need for AGB Nielsen to check the accuracy of its TV ratings by replacing the compromised panel homes with new ones. TV ratings are the foundation of the TV industry and used by media organizations and advertisers in making important business decisions.

It is therefore important for media organizations, advertisers, and most importantly, the viewing public to know the truth. We demand explanations and not blanket denials, legal threats or other means to muddle or skirt the issue.

What we want is simple. We want a TV ratings system that will accurately capture the preferences of the Filipino people because as a network that values honesty and integrity, we compete on the basis of quality programming and not by compromising the system.

In the absence of TV ratings in the next few weeks, the public can expect that ABS-CBN will continue to produce the best programs and be of service to the Filipino public.

ABS-CBN to file new lawsuit against AGB Nielsen

Dec 23, 2007 (The Manila Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- ACBNF | charts | news | PowerRating -- Television network ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp, after successfully obtaining a temporary restraining order (TRO) against AGB Nielsen Research Phils., announced that it would be filing a new case against the research firm for contempt of court for allegedly defying the cease and desist order from a Quezon City the Regional Trial Court.

"We are extremely disappointed with the decision of AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines to disobey the clear terms of the temporary restraining order. It made a narrow and self-serving interpretation of the TRO. As a result of this, we will hold them liable for contempt of court," the network said in a statement.

Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN head of corporate communications, said his company would be file the case next week after it found out that AGB Nielsen still released its ratings data to clients on Friday despite the TRO.

In an earlier statement, Maya Reforma, AGB Nielsen Media Research Phils. general manager, said that the research firm would comply with the 20-day TRO but insisted that its data is "accurate and reliable". Reforma said the company, upon learning of the supposed tampering activities, had "reprocessed" the data that were allegedly compromised due to reported bribery of panel households in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Furthermore, she said the lawsuit and TRO filed by ABS-CBN on December 14 had no basis since the data's accuracy "has been checked and confirmed by globally accepted statistical practices and standards."

Actually paguwi ko last Dec.24 sa bahay namin.... nanonood sa 7 ang sister ko.. iyan ang ipinapalabas... eh wala namang pakialam ang ate ko sa mga nangyayari sa mga isyu na yan (she's a freelancer pagdating sa mga pinapanood).. ayun.. nakuha ang simpatya niya kasi hindi naman niya alam ang buong mga pangyayari unlike natin na nasa online world na from day zero hanggang sa umabot na sa demandahan alam natin ang both sides at natitimbang natin kung aling panig ang mas lamang...at kung sino ang nagsisinungaling, nakikisawsaw lang ng una at nakikisimpatya pero ngayon nag aalburuto na at may mga ads pa para i spoon feed sa viewers nila para ma earn ang symphaty ng mga makakapanood na ignorante sa buong detalye ng isyu... (especially in Bulacan na maraming kapuso... ang bukang bibig na nila ay ABS CBN sobrang mandaraya daw... di na ako nakikipag argue kasi wala na akong magagawa dahil iisang panig lang ang naririnig nila at ang drama effect pa ng ads nila)....

Sa ABS... ng mangyari ang Ultra Stampede, Wilyonaryo issue.. etc.. wala kang nakitang panghihikayat sa mga viewers na sila ang dapat panigan at humuhungi ng simpatya... hinayaan nila sa viewers kung saan papanig... makikita mong may kanya kanyang kuro kuro at pinanigan ang mga kapamilya.. dahil may kanya kanya tayong judgement... hindi por que kapamilya tayo eh kinakampihan natin kahit baluktok....

ABS-CBN files contempt charges vs AGB Nielsen

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation filed Wednesday contempt charges against AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines for failing to abide by the temporary restraining order against releasing television ratings.

The network’s petition for contempt named AGB Nielsen, its board of directors and general manager Maya Reforma as respondents for releasing the Television Audience Measurement or TAM data last December 21.

The TAM was released a day after the Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued a TRO prohibiting the release of TV ratings.

An advisory was sent by the research firm through email stating its intention to continue delivering, releasing, and making known the TAM despite the TRO.

"It is clear that AGB Nielsen continues and intends to continue to gather and release TV ratings data," said ABS-CBN Chief Legal Counsel Maximilian Uy.

The network earlier filed a P63 million civil suit against the research firm for their failure to probe reports of alleged organized, systematic and well-funded attempt to cheat in the ratings.

According to the report, Vic Sotto's "Enteng Kabisote 4: Okay Ka, Fairy Ko (The Beginning of a Legend)" was leading the box office race with a P17-M take. Second place was "Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo" starring Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo with P16-M in ticket sales.

In her affidavit, Reforma said the 79 were among 532 metered homes in six cities INTERVIEWED BY THE RESEARCH FIRM to CONFIRM the alleged bribery attempts. She said the 532 homes comprised 100 percent of all AGB Nielsen metered homes in the six cities.

Of the 79 tampered homes, 27 were from Iloilo, 18 were from Bacolod, 12 from Cebu, 13 in Davao, four in Dagupan and five in Cagayan de Oro.

She said all 79 panel homes admitted being exposed to "activities" of GMA Network, the main competitor of ABS-CBN, She said the panel homes were persuaded to watch GMA shows in exchange for monthly prizes including P500 in cash, groceries, umbrellas, pens and medicine.

"Panel homes who declare themselves to be watching ABS-CBN are asked to become a member of the GMA Kapuso viewers in order to receive a monthly supply of groceries and P500," she said, describing one of the activities.

She added that of the 79 homes, 63 homes were visited once while 16 were visited twice or more times.

Umaabot sa mahigit P300,000 halaga ng alahas at salapi ang natangay matapos na pagnakawan ng umano’y katulong ang tahanan ng actress na si Claudine Barretto-Santiago matapos mag-Noche Buena ang pamilya noong madaling araw ng Pasko, ayon sa pulisya kahapon.

Sa naantalang pagpapa-blotter sa Quezon City Police, sinabi ni Claudine na sinuspinde na niya bunga ng insidente ang serbisyo ng kanyang katulong na si Nancy Cruz alyas Gigi, 25 ng Brgy. Valencia, Quezon City.

Ayon kay Claudine, si Cruz ang pinaghihinalaan niyang nagnakaw ng kanyang mahahalagang mga alahas at salapi.

Ang insidente ay inireport lamang kamakalawa ni Claudine sa pulisya matapos na umalis si Cruz sa kanyang tahanan noong Miyerkules na dala ang lahat ng kanyang mga damit at hindi na bumalik.

Sinabi ni Claudine na nadiskubre umano niyang nawawalan siya ng P7,000 cash, diamond crusted na kulay pink, Technomarine watch na nagkakahalaga ng P300,000 , susi ng kanilang tahanan at BPI check book, anim na post-dated checks at birth certificate.

Nabatid na natuklasan ng actress na nawawala ang kanyang mga alahas at salapi dakong alas-2:00 ng madaling araw noong Disyembre 25.

Ayon sa aktres, naghinala umano siyang may kinalaman si Cruz sa nakawan matapos itong umalis ng walang paalam at tangayin ang lahat ng kanyang gamit.

Wala talagang Pasko para sa ABS-CBN at AGB as the network and ratings wars continue to rage.

Pagkatapos ng Pasko, nag-file na ng panibagong kaso ang ABS-CBN sa AGB for
contempt of court after AGB ‘disregarded’ the TRO na ini-release ng court.

Ang GMA-7 naman, itutuloy ang demandang libel against DZMM reporter Junrie Hidalgo and
possibly against DZMM and ABS-CBN mismo.

It was due to the fact that Junrie pinpointed GMA-7 as the culprit behind the dayaan daw,
ayon sa AGB.

Sabi ng ABS-CBN , barking at the wrong tree ito dahil reporting lang si Junrie sa statements
ng AGB.

Sabi naman ng GMA-7, no such statement from AGB was released.

nakatakda niyang gawin sa Kapuso network.

Expired na kasi ang kontrata ng young actor sa Star Magic noon pang Setyembre kaya marahil
napapabalitang mag-o-ober da bakod siya.

Tight fight between 'Enteng' and 'Sakal' for MMFF box-office

When it comes to box-office supremacy, it's a battle between GP films in the arena that is the 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival.

By the fourth day of the film fest, OctoArts Films-M-Zet Productions’ “Enteng Kabisote 4” and Star Cinema’s “Sakal, Sakali, Sakolo” are neck and neck for the top spot when it comes to box-office receipts.

Fantasy films like "Enteng Kabisote 4" are traditionally the top-grossers during the festival, which opens yearly on Christmas day.

This year however, romantic drama-comedy "Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo" is exceeding all expectations. Festival insiders are saying that the Star Cinema dramedy has a bigger chance of snatching the top spot at the tills.

However only at festival's end will everybody know whether the Judy Ann Santos-Ryan Agoncillo starrer will actually break tradition.

Last year, Santos and Agoncillo also starred in "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo" the original film of which "Sakal" is the sequel. That film also gave "Enteng Kabisote 3" a run for its money, although the fantasy movie eventually claimed top-grosser status.

According to Emy Abuan, the official publicist of the 2007 MMFF, the festival in general is doing even better at the tills compared to last year.

She added that it's no surprise that both “Enteng...” and “Sakal..” are leading the pack since they are classified for general patronage. Entire families are expected to watch the films until the festival season ends.

Abuan also said that as of Tuesday, there was already a five percent increase in the
gross sales of the total earnings of the six films that opened the festival, compared to last year's first day income.

Abuan said that while the gross sales of the 2006 MMFFP was posted at P450 million, this year's target is P500M.

Meanwhile Rey Camaligan, Marketing Manager of SM Cinemas, said that filmfest entries showing at the mall chain's cinemas had garnered a whooping P60 M in gross earnings on the festival's opening day.

Third place at the box-office so far is “Resiklo,” an Imus Productions’ futuristic fantasy starring action star-turned-senator Bong Revilla.

In fourth place is “Shake, Rattle and Roll 9,” a MaQ Productions’ continiuation of the hit horror franchise that began in the 1980s.

Regal Films’ “Bahay Kubo” is in fifth place, and stars Maricel Soriano, Eric Quizon and other "Regal Babies".

Maverick Films’ “Katas Ng Saudi,” topbilled by Jinggoy Estrada and Lorna Tolentino is still a cellar-dweller a the sixth spot.

Three other festival entries are set to be shown on January 1, 2008 namely Regal Entertainment’s “Desperadas” starring Ruffa Gutierrez, Rufa Mae Quinto, Iza Calzado and Marian Rivera; MP Productions’ “Anak Ng Kumander” featuring Manny Pacquiao and Ara Mina; and Comguild’s “Banal” with Christopher de Leon in the

First of all ABS said sa AGB sila may kontrata so it is AGB's responsibility to ensure na malinis ang pagkuha ng ratings kaya sila ang dinemanda.
Sa affidavit din ng AGB nanggaling ito:

Tin said AGB Nielsen conducted its own investigation and found at least 79 of its metered homes that were breached by another network(GMA Network).

In her affidavit, Reforma said the 79 were among 532 metered homes in six cities INTERVIEWED BY THE RESEARCH FIRM to CONFIRM the alleged bribery attempts. She said the 532 homes comprised 100 percent of all AGB Nielsen metered homes in the six cities.

Of the 79 tampered homes, 27 were from Iloilo, 18 were from Bacolod, 12 from Cebu, 13 in Davao, four in Dagupan and five in Cagayan de Oro.

She said all 79 panel homes admitted being exposed to "activities" of GMA Network, the main competitor of ABS-CBN, She said the panel homes were persuaded to watch GMA shows in exchange for monthly prizes including P500 in cash, groceries, umbrellas, pens and medicine.

"Panel homes who declare themselves to be watching ABS-CBN are asked to become a member of the GMA Kapuso viewers in order to receive a monthly supply of groceries and P500," she said, describing one of the activities.

She added that of the 79 homes, 63 homes were visited once while 16 were visited twice or more times.

She said statistical tests conducted by AGB Nielsen showed that 16 of the 79 homes "showed a significant change to favor GMA in its viewing behavior."

kaya nga I think enough has been said already..magfile na ng kaso ang GMA para sa court na ang decision..we are just mere spectators and I think we want this resolve in the proper venue.

Asian horror coming to screen near you

UDINE, Italy (AFP) - Over the past decade, the Asian film industry has set the standard for the horror genre -- and now more Asian-inspired hits are on the way to cinemas around the world.

With Hollywood remakes of "The Ring" and "The Grudge" both clocking more than 100 million US dollars in ticket sales, studios have their sights firmly on the region as they search for the next box-office winner.

The next 12 months will see the Hollywood version of the Oxide and Danny Pang-directed Hong Kong shocker "The Eye", among others, as re-make rights are being snapped up almost as soon as the originals hit the screen.

"We make these films for our people. But it is also why they seem more original to people from overseas," says Thailand's Genwaii Thongdenok, who produced the local hit "13-Beloved".

"In Thailand, and in Asia, horror films are about more than just ghosts. They are often about things we think are real," says Genwaii, who has seen the remake rights to his hit bought up by the powerful Weinstein Company.

The future of the horror genre was one of the topics under heavy discussion at last week's ninth edition of the Far East Film Festival in the Italian city of Udine.

Asian horror films have long been a staple of the 10-day festival, and the event's "Horror Day" again proved to be an enormous success -- with hardly a seat to spare.

This year featured films from Japan ("The Slit-Mouthed Woman"), Thailand ("13-Beloved", "The Unseeable", "Dorm"), South Korea ("Roommates"), the Philippines ("Sukob") and Malaysia ("Chermin").

"For filmmakers, we get a big buzz over watching our films play outside the market they were made for," says actress Siraphan Wattanajinda, who stars in "The Unseeable".

"These films are not made for an international audience but it is great for us to come here and see that an international audience can appreciate them."

The breadth of ideas in the Asian horror tradition is certainly one reason why the genre, more than any other, has been able to cross the cultural divide.

And from the pure, haunted-house horror of "Sukob" -- the most successful Philippine film of all time -- to the bizarre child abuse tale of "The Slit-Mouthed Woman", that full breadth was on show in Udine.

"We try to throw many things into our films," says Genwaii. "There is no real formula as we have to appeal to as many people in our audience as possible."

The nature of the horror genre enables filmmakers them to test themselves with a wide range of techniques.

"The Malaysian film industry is quite new and quite small. The government provides assistance to us but the product has to be commercial and horror films are commercial," says Zarina Abdullah, the director of "Chermin".

"There is a new horror film coming out every two weeks in Malaysia. So young filmmakers can find backing for their projects, plus you are able to try different things, explore new ideas rather than just doing drama or a love story."

Some filmmakers are even using the shock genre to focus on wider social issues -- as as South Korea's Kim Eun-kyung does in "Roommates", which looks at the effect severe discipline has on young students.

"The film is called horror but this type of film can say more," says Kim.

"I wanted to show how bad these schools can be -- and there are some still South Korea. The horror film can reflect on things we see as being wrong in our societies, using real characters in situations regular people can appreciate."

Stephen Cremin, programme coordinator for the festival, says the impact of such films in Hollywood goes well beyond just re-makes of Asia's box-office smashes.

"For a while, the West saw things like 'The Ring' that had themes and a psychological bent that hadn't been seen in the West before," he says.

"Now you see films like (Hollywood's) 'Saw' pushing those boundaries even further. For a while Asia was cutting edge, breaking boundaries and doing new things. Now the Americans are fighting back."

ABS wants it to undergo in the proper process...kahit may testigo ano ba pwede nila ikaso sa GMA or other network?magsuggest ka nga kung anong pwedeng i-file na kaso ng ABS sa GMA.Hindi ba mas malakas ang laban kung AGB ang idedemanda w/c is what they did?

You are right SkyCable is a sister company of ABS-CBN..But GMA complaining on the higher ratings of ABS on cable homes is definitely a propaganda from which gma is known for..Of course ABS will lead the cable homes because most of its viewers are switching to cable because of its poor signal reception..unlike gma viewers has no reason to subscribe to cable because gma signal is very clear kahit walang antenna ang tv clear pa rin ang gma..logical thinking will disprove gma claim..You have to know that part of gma dirty tactics is to attack ABS-CBN sister companies such as MERALCO, SKYCABLE, NORTH LUZON EXPRESSWAY, etc to put ABS-CBN down..I know you will not believe it coz if im right you're frame of mind is already a kapuso orientation..but our marketing manager happened to come from GMA marketing group and he shared to us this tv networks war!!!!

Happy New Year dude! Buti naman pinanood mo ang trailer ng ABS-CBN..For me, the best ang trailer ng ABS-CBN, very cinematic and conveying..well, i have no comment to gma trailer coz it's useless to watch it, if not a copycat, it will be a lesser value and i settle only for the best..Peace Be With You Dude! We hope ABS-CBN will be doing great this year and we are always here to support their shows...:)
