How come more and more young boys reveal their sexuality at such an early point in their lives? Is gay life as colorful as it may seem for these young boys or is it a life full of discrimination from their peers?

Bea Saw: The Kuyarazzi and her dream come true

Bea Saw recently celebrated her 22nd birthday and is thankful that at her age, she is living her dream already.

The Pinoy Big Brother Season Two Big Winner puts her sentiments in a gist.

"Parang it's all too good to be true," said the chinky-eyed lass from the Bicol region.

She is just glad with her opportunity to penetrate show biz and all what she wants to do now is to enjoy every minute of it, at the same time making sure that she keeps herself grounded.

Bea is perfectly aware that there is no assurance if she would ever stay long in the business but as far as she is concerned, the business has only shown her good stuff.

"Right now, wala talaga pa akong bad experience, puro magaganda lang," she said with all honesty.

As a newcomer, Bea is like a sponge that absorbs whatever tips she could to learn more about the business. Good thing that there are celebrities who are not selfish to share advice that come in handy.

It is a big privilege for her to make her debut in the film "One More Chance," where she also had bonding time with the two leading stars of the movie, John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo.

"It was very enlightening to realize how these popular stars are as human as everybody else," Bea beamed excitedly.

Dimples Romana, who also starred in the film, is the one who gave a valuable piece of advice to her.

"Sabi niya sa akin, 'Kung super mamahalin mo ang trabaho mo, mamahalin ka rin nito,'"she shared.

She readily said that she is not afraid to answer questions if ever issues are thrown at her as long as she has the truth on her side.

Probably the nastiest comment she has ever received is the sound of her voice. Bea is a segment host of PBB updates shown on ABS-CBN 3 times a day. Nonetheless the criticism is not something that she cannot handle.

"Sinasabi nila na masakit daw sa tenga ang boses ko kasi mataas ang pitch. Pero okay lang sa akin kasi totoo naman," she shared.

Through voice modulation she has improved her voice. In comparison with the first episodes of the PBB update, Bea's hosting has noticeably improved. She has no qualms to be criticized for her own improvement, especially for a work she fully enjoys.

"(With PBB Updates) I can be like super abnormal and still enjoy it," beams Bea.

Cesar, papalit kay Edu sa OMB

Si Cesar Montano ba ang talunang kandidato ng Senado na pinatatamaan ni Edu Manzano sa isang radio show na papalit sa kanyang puwesto bilang chief ng OMB (Optical Media Board)?

Tinanong namin si Cesar tungkol sa balitang ito sa presscon ng Pinoy Mano Mano Celebrity Boxing Challenge, programa niya sa ABS-CBN, which will have its final bout this Saturday, December 15, with Jordan Herrera and Rico Robles at the forefront.

Sagot ni Cesar: Narinig nga raw niya (not from the radio show where Edu allegedly guested) ang tungkol sa balitang ito.

But since hindi pa naman formally inu-offer sa kanya ang puwesto, he’d rather not comment, much less, umasa.

Besides, bilang kumandidatong senador na natalo nga, he is not allowed to accept any government position one year after the elections. Since last May ginanap ang halalan, June next year pa, kung sakali, puwedeng tumanggap ng position sa government si Cesar.

Doesn’t he think the job of an OMB chair is too challenging? we asked Cesar again.

His reply was: “Well, at the moment, ang itinuturing kong challenge ay itong final battle sa Pinoy Mano-Mano. As the title of the program suggests, malaking hamon talaga para kina Jordan at Rico ang magaganap sa Sabado ng gabi.”

Asked kung sino kina Jordan at Rico ang feeling niya ay tatanghaling champion, Cesar said, he wants the best boxer between the two to win.

Kung sino man kina Jordan at Rico ang mananalo, he will be going home with, a cash prize of P500,000 (yes, P500,000, tax-free) at isang bagong kotse. The talunan will be given the pampalubag-loob amount of P150,000.

Not bad din, kung sabagay.

Ara Mina admits considering ABS-CBN's offer, but will not leave GMA-7

Isang malaking desisyon umano ang gagawin ng aktres na si Ara Mina sa 2008 para sa kanyang career. May kinalaman ito sa napipintong paglipat niya sa ABS-CBN. Nakapag-guest na siya sa ilang shows at makakasama pa siya ni Willie Revillame sa special edition ng Wowowee sa U.S. this December.

Nakapanayam ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) si Ara sa Christmas party ng Bubble Gang noong December 10, sa Filmex Studio sa Makati City.

"Hindi talaga paglipat," paglilinaw ni Ara. "Wala akong exclusive contract sa GMA-7 kaya nakakapag-guest ako sa ABS-CBN. Hindi rin ako pipirma if ever ng exclusive contract sa ABS-CBN, pero mayroon talaga silang offer na kinu-consider ko."

Masaya raw si Ara sa offer na ito. Nabanggit nga namin sa kanyang kalat na kalat nang siya ang papalit kay Angelika dela Cruz sa Prinsesa ng Banyera sa paglipat naman ng huli sa GMA-7.

"Nakatutuwa, 'no?" sabi ni Ara. "May lumipat sa Siete, may papasok sa Dos. Ganoon lang siguro 'yan. Kung saan ka mas okay, e, di doon ka. Ang kaibahan ko lang, okay sa GMA-7 ang decision kong ito, pero hindi ko rin iiwan ang Siete, lalo na ang Bubble Gang. Puwede naman. Hindi lang pupuwedeng dalawang nagkakatapat na programa, e, nandodoon ako.

"At saka yung sa Dos, one-shot deal 'yon. Walang exclusivity. Maganda ang ino-offer nilang role sa akin. Hindi naman ako talaga kapalit ni Angelika doon [Prinsesa ng Banyera]. Kumbaga, may papasok na bagong character. Hindi pa rin ako allowed na magsalita dahil wala pang katiyakan ang tungkol diyan. Kasi, sa totoo lang, nag-e-expect ako ng counter-offer from GMA-7 kapag natiyak nilang may gagawin ako sa Dos.

"Inaamin kong hindi ko nagustuhan yung offer nilang [GMA-7] gumanap na akong mother kay JC de Vera [sa Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita]. Alam kong darating din ako sa mother roles, pero huwag nilang madaliin dahil wala pa akong treinta anyos para gumanap na nanay ng isang teenager, o ng isang nasa early twenties na niya, gaya ni JC.

"I'm just being honest. Kung tatanggapin ko 'yan, malilimitahan na ako. Alam kong nauuso ang mga mother role na ibinibigay sa mga bata-bata pang artista. Pero sorry, may iba kasing plano para sa career ko. At hindi ako magiging convincing na maging nanay na ng grown-ups. Hindi ko 'yan mabibigyan ng justice dahil mayroong ibang mas bagay para sa ganyang roles," paliwanag ni Ara.

Nilinaw ni Ara na hindi naman daw siya nagmamaladita. Kaya lang, kung may offer sa Dos na mas pabor para sa kanya, bakit niya raw tatanggihan?

"Gusto kong mag-project ng image ng artistang malayang nakakapagtrabaho sa dalawang networks," sambit ni Ara. "Ang tingin ko nga diyan, hindi na dapat pinaiiral ang network war kung gusto nilang umasenso ang industriya, mas maraming magkaroon ng trabaho.

"Beneficial ang mga bagong kumbinasyong mabubuo para sa networks. Mas maraming matutuwa sa ganun. I'm so happy, welcome ako sa dalawang networks, at mas makabubuti 'yon sa career ko."

WITH BLESSING. Nagsimula nang maramdaman ng publiko ang presence ni Ara nang makapag-taping na siya ng ilang shows sa Dos as guest.

"Noong una siyempre, nangangapa ako. Pero parang nagbalik lang ako. When I was starting to build a name as Ara Mina, nakasama ako sa Sa Linggo nAPO Sila at sa Sabado Live, both ABS-CBN shows.

"Nanibago lang ako. Pero kung mapapadalas ang pagge-guest ko sa kanila, at kung may regular na ngang trabaho, I don't think magkakaroon ako ng problema.

"'Tsaka may blessings ako from GMA executives, na habang wala pa silang project na bagay talaga sa akin, payag sila sa ganoong set-up. Tiniyak ko sa kanilang Kapuso pa rin ako, kahit welcome din ako bilang Kapamilya. Kung pupuwede naman, why not?" nangingiting sabi ni Ara.

SISTERS ACT. Sa 2008, may mga nagsasabing baka lumipat din si Cristine Reyes sa ABS-CBN at gumawa na ng projects doon. Kung ganyang may gagawing project si Ara sa Dos, asahan din daw na hindi nalalayo si Cristine sa paglipat. Ano ang masasabi ni Ara dito?

"Hindi kami package deal ni A'a [palayaw ni Cristine]," diin ni Ara. "Sa parteng 'yan, ayoko na ngang magsalita dahil noon ay napagbintangan na akong nakikialam sa career ng kapatid ko. Kaya nga may ibang nagma-manage sa kanya.

"Sa pagkakaalam ko, tinanggap na uli ni A'a ang Joaquin Burdado opposite Robin Padilla. Wala naman akong sinasabi noong nasabi niyang tinanggihan na niya noong una.

"Hindi ko alam kung ano ang gustong gawin ni Cristine sa career niya, pero bahala siya doon. May sarili siyang career, at hindi porke gagawa ako ng project sa ABS-CBN, e, susunod na siya sa akin. May kontrata siyang dapat tuparin para sa Siete," diin ni Ara.

Halatang walang mga utak ang mga iyan at ang pinaiiral ay ang kampihan o palakasan system...

Mas marami pa nga akong narinig na magandang nagawa ni Edu during his term kesa noong siya ang namumuno sa OMB na ipapakita lang lagi sa mga news reports na pormang porma habang sumasalakay sa mga kuta ng pirata... habang si Edu mas marami lang akong nababasa sa diyaryo kesa sa napapanood sa TV... ibig sabihin kumikilos kahit walang nakasunod na kamera para ipakita sa lahat na ginagampanan niya ang kanyang gawain...


Besides...di kaya nila naisip na si Edu...bukod sa responsibilities as a chairman of OMB, may album din siya na naka out sa market na mas magpapaigting ng desire niya para lalong gampanan ang trabaho niya. Imagine mo na lang na may album ka or movie na kapag naglakad ka sa kung saan-saang bangketa ay makikita mo ang mga piniratang kopya ng pinaghirapan mo... hindi ba mas masusuklam ka at dahil hawak mo ang kapangyarihan upang sugpuin ito..mas pagsisikapan mong solusyonan ito...


At ang lakas ng loob ni Bong na manilip ng kapwa niya samantalang dumaan din siya sa pagsusuot ng sapatos na suot ngayon ni Edu...dapat mas nauunawan niya ito at ang hirap na pinagdadaanan ng mga tulad nila na may kapangyarihan upang sumugpo sa piracy pero hirap na hirap sila dahil hindi kakaunting tao ang kalaban nila kundi marami at malalaki at makapangyarihang tao din. Ang dapat iputak ng mga senator na yan na nakikisawsaw ay kung paano nila mapapasuko ang mga malalaking tao behind these piracies...o takot silang kastiguhin ang mga ito dahil may koneksyon sila sa mga taong ito at pinapangalagaan nila ang mga ito? Duh!


About Bong naman... wow... top rater naman tuwing linggo ang Kap's Amazing Stories niya ah.. ibig sabihin maraming nanonood ng programa niya at maraming nakakapanood sa kanya...hindi pa ba enough ang dami ng tao na narerehistro sa rating meter para kumita ang pelikula mo? bakit kailangan pa niyang gumamit ng isang tao (na I think ang pinakasikat among their contemporaries as of the moment ay si Edu) para gumawa ng eksena para na din gamitin sa promotion ng pelikula niya (sa aminin natin at hindi.. kung talagang nasisilip niya si Edu..bakit ngayon lang niya ginawa ang pangbabatikos? pwede namang noong Jan, Feb, March.. o kaya last year? o dahil wala siyang entry sa Filmfest lasy year?).. what a dirty tactic... sana magtagumpay at kumita ang iyong pelikula...


Ayun... basta keep up the good work Papaya Edu!... sikat na sikat ka kasi ngayon at classy pa (hindi pang bakya) kaya ikaw ang ginagamit ng mga naiinggit sa mga achievements mo habang ang mga contemporaries mo.. kung hindi stagnant ang career ay pabagsak na at pawala na...(sino ba namang hindi maiinggit... 3 shows under his sleeves... isang unbeatable and award winning game show - internationally and locally recognized/praised, trend setter, platinum album, child friendly personality, daming commercial endorsements....) or better leave the position to someone else's they think can surpass Bong or Edu's effort to fight piracy...

Eh kamusta naman ang One More Chance? kinabukasan na kinabukasan eh meron nang nakuhang pirated copy yung kakilala ko..naunahan pa akong manood kasi Friday night ako nanood sa sine.....sabi ko nga sa PEX..wag isisi kung saan saan ang pagiging FLOPPED ng isang pelikula... ang Star Cinema naman di naman nagpapalusot pag di nameet ang expectations ng movies nila... instead they keep on promoting it na kahit minsan may kasamang pangloloko na tagline na "Mega Blockbuster hit still showing on its 3rd week"..etc. etc... etc. etc... sa case naman ng Pacquiao the Movie na talagang flopped.. instead na magpalusot or magsisihan.. ang isinagot na lang ng isang insider ng SC kapag tinatanong kung totoong flopped ba ang Pacquiao the Movie.. ang sinabi nila... mahina nga daw..pero sa probinsya maganda naman daw ang performance...tapos isiningit din nila na good news daw ang nakuha nitong B rating from CEB...diba hindi nagsabi ng diretso na flopped pero read between the lines na lang... at hindi kung ano anong palusot pa at kung sino/ano pa ang sisisihin...

Hindi sa ayaw..pero I don't know her and I saw her several times sa ibang TV sets.. undeniably naman na talagang nangunguna ang Marimar dito sa Mega Manila kaya kahit saan mapapanood mo siya.. and I found na isa rin siyang angel locsin nang nasa GMA pa.. na walang kakwenta kwentang umarte at hindi majustify ang emotion ng sinasabi niya plus ang pangit pa ng mga script..pweh.. kung itsura at katawan..she justified portraying Marimar! good thing na napakalinaw ng Channel 7...

GREAT TV RATINGS FOR HATTON-MAYWEATHER

The blockbuster battle between “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather Jr and Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton which was telecast over the giant Philippine broadcast network ABS-CBN last Sunday turned in exceptional television ratings.

According to AGB Nielsen Media TV Meter ratings which is the broadcast industry’s official ratings arm, the Mayweather-Hatton fight rated 34.5 percent nationwide over the pre-eminent Channel 2 while it registered a lower rating of 26.3 percent in Mega Manila.

According to ABS-CBN vice president for Sports Peter Musngi this may be attributed to the fact that the fight was also shown “live” on the “Balls” Sports channel of ABS-CBN as well as in three theaters in Metro Manila.

The ratings in the Visayas region shot up to 45.2 percent while it was even much higher in Mindanao with a 53.6 percent rating.

Big boxing events in recent weeks rated poorly in comparison, with the IBF/IBO flyweight title fight of Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire against Luis Maldonado telecast over GMA 7 rating 17 percent while the “Payback” card headlined by Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista vs Antonio Meza over ABC 5 rated an average of 8.2 percent.

AWARE kaya ang GMA-7 executives na masyado yatang nakatutok ang pansin nila sa Marimar project at sa bida nitong si Marian Rivera kaya tila napapabayaan na ang ibang contract stars?

May nakapagbulong sa amin na isa sa medyo nakakalimutan yata ngayon ng network ay si Richard Gutierrez, na itinuturing pa namang prized possession ng GMA-7 among its male talents.

Kapansin-pansin daw kasing hindi masyadong nabibigyan ng promo ang Kamandag na pinagbibidahan ni Richard at naka-focus lamang sa Marimar gayung mas kailangan ng young actor ang suporta since bago pa lamang ang kanyang teleserye.

Sa nakaraang Christmas party for the press ng GMA-7, may mga nakapansin ding puro tarpulin lang ng Zaido at Marimar ang makikita, wala ang Kamandag.

As the reality-based program is on its last match this Sunday, December 16, only the toughest two come face-to-face in the ring until one emerges as the grand champion.

Former PBB housemate/radio disc jockey Rico Robles and actor Jordan Herrera will be wearing their boxing gloves for the last time. The last man standing will be adjudged as the first-ever boxing champ of Pinoy Mano Mano.

"It's all out in the finals. You are not gonna save anything, every punch has a reason," said Rico. He even became very confident in saying that he will emerge as the winner.

Jordan responded that he is up for the challenge and is ready for the take on. He assured that he has conditioned himself and he is not going to make it easy for Rico.

Prizes for the final match of Pinoy Mano Mano includes P500,000 which will be given to charity and a brand new car.

Real blood, real fights

Meanwhile, the people behind the reality-based TV show strongly shoved criticisms thrown at them, particularly those that claim that the boxing fights in Pinoy Mano Mano are "choreographed."

"Every fight namin may (contender na) duguan," explained Albert Almaden, executive producer of Pinoy Mano-Mano. He added that they even had to edit some footages to lessen showing too much bloody scenes.

The host of the reality-based program, Cesar Montano, went to explain that the blood and wounds on the faces of the celebrities are for real. The accusation is also unfair for all the celebrity contenders because they work hard for every fight that they do inside the boxing ring, the actor added.

Cesar also confirmed that they are now in the process of preparing for Pinoy Mano Mano's second season.

kaya malaking kawalan ng mga taga megamanila na hindi nanonood sa ABS dahil namimiss nila ang mga quality shows na maipagmamalaki ang quality dito at sa ibang bansa.

Harsh ba? hehe... di naman ako magsasabi ng ganyan kung wala akong basehan... siyempre may halong pagiging biased na din iyan... pero my judgement still favors with parity... I watched BAHAY KUBO's teaser and I found it a strong contender for best picture... same as Banal... Bahay Kubo brought me a few goosebumps plus the fact that Eugene Domingo is again at her best.. not a scene stealer but the screen really loves her... supporting role pero mas siya ang napapansin (mukhang mas una ko pa itong papanoorin kesa SSS but definitely I'll watch SSS - nasusuka na kasi ako sa salbaheng manager ni Juday kaya medyo nakakawalang gana suportahan ang mga endeavors ng alaga niya na parang ipinapamukha niya lahat lahat ng makukuha ng alaga niya di lang sa ABS kundi pati na din sa atin na sumusuporta sa kanya)

Magaling si Yasmien Kurdi sa scene na magpapapicture siya ng hubad at sinabunutan siya ni Maricel, Jiro showcases a comic role lalo na ng umutot siya while advocating peace between his 2 clashing "sisters", nilamon ng acting ni Shaina at Yasmien ang acting ni feber... sana naman di marami ang exposures ni feber kasi sa teasers madaming pinapakita na scenes na kasama siya ...sabagay taking advantage of her hyped popularity...well kapag kumita ang Bahay Kubo... it should not be credited only to her...which I think ipagmamayabang ng mga followers niya na may hit movie na ang idol nila...

Angel is ABS-CBN’s 2008 bet

ABS-CBN sues AGB Nielsen Media for 'tainted' ratings

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. on Friday sued AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines for continuing to release possibly tainted nationwide TV ratings despite information that metered households used to gauge the ratings might have been bribed.

ABS-CBN spokesman Bong Osorio said the network filed a case against AGB Nielsen after discovering "a systematic, organized and well funded attempt" to bribe metered households used to gauge viewer behavior and preference.

"The Filipino people and the entire media industry deserve to know the truth. We in ABS-CBN have discovered what can only be viewed as a systematic, organized and well funded attempt to cheat in the ratings," ABS-CBN Chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III said in a statement.

Osorio said that to measure TV ratings nationwide, meters are installed in randomly sampled households to check the viewing behavior of people in the areas covered. These households are considered as representative after passing statistical standards set by the research agency.

"The identity of these metered households is kept secure so that no outside entity can influence their behavior. This ensures that the ratings that come from these homes reflect their true behavior," Osorio said.

He said ABS-CBN was approached by a person who confessed that he was hired by another TV network to locate and bribe metered households in Bacolod to switch to a different channel and thus influence TV ratings in that area. ABS-CBN later verified the information with some of the households allegedly approached by the informant.

Vivian Tin, ABS-CBN Research and Business Analysis chief, said ABS-CBN informed AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines last November 20 about the bribery attempts and urged the research agency "to stop the release of erroneous data, check their panel nationwide and resume release only when they can guarantee the integrity of the data."

She said the network filed a P63 million civil suit against AGB Nielsen after it continued to release the weekly TV ratings even after the informant met with AGB Nielsen officials. "They did go with the informant and he did show them the homes. According to the informant, the homes that he showed them were verified to be AGB Nielsen homes," she told reporters at 9501 restaurant.

ABS-CBN lawyer Maxim Uy said the network sued the research firm for breach of contract and for failing to keep as confidential information on metered households. The P63 million lawsuit is broken down into P45 million in license fees paid by the network to AGB Nielsen, P15 million in moral and exemplary damages and P3 million in attorneys' fees.

Uy said the network also requested the Quezon City Regional Trial Court for a temporary restraining order on AGB surveys.

In a text message to ABS-CBN, AGB Nielsen general manager Maya Reforma said the company will issue a statement when it receives a copy of the complaint.

Tin said the broadcast industry is reliant on TV ratings, which should accurately represent the viewing tastes of the public.

"For the network, we use TV ratings to understand what viewers prefer to watch. We use data to determine what programs to produce and what time or channel to slot them in. For the advertisers, they use TV ratings to determine what type of programs their particular targets watch so they can place their advertising there," she said.

How ratings are harvested

Tin said TV ratings are harvested by measuring the viewing behavior of TV audience in select households.

In the case of AGB Nielsen, the research firm chose 1,540 panel homes for its national urban television audience measurement (NUTAM) panel. The NUTAM homes represent 90 percent of the total urban population with TV sets or about 37 million individuals age 2 and above in the country.

In the selected homes, meters are attached to all TV sets in each household. The meter comes with a handset that has a button for each member of the household. Each household member is instructed to push the button assigned to them every time he or she is watching TV. The meter attached to the TV is designed to identify the channel to which the TV is on. By using the handset, the meter will know which programs the household member watches and how long he watches TV.

Once accumulated, the data from the handsets and meters will show the different types of people watching different channels and programs.

Tin said any attempt to unnaturally influence the behavior of members of the NUTAM panel like giving them incentives to watch programs that they do not want to watch will render a panel "unrepresentative." She said an unrepresentative panel will give wrong information and will lead TV networks to produce programs that people will not really want to see.

In a video presentation presented by ABS-CBN officials, the informant said he was hired to conduct the bribery operation late last year. At least seven people were allegedly involved in the operation to bribe metered households in Bacolod, he said.

He said they were able to identify the metered households by following a certain Edward who was assigned by AGB Nielsen to install the TV meters in Bacolod. He said they used motorbikes to follow Edward who usually rode a multi-cab with the plate number GNU-107 when going to the NUTAM households. He said Edward did not know he was being followed.

The informant said that after the meters were installed, their group then approached the members of the household and told them to switch to another channel in exchange for P500 in cash plus groceries. He added that many of the people they approached accepted the bribes because of financial hardship.

The informant said he was given a monthly salary of P6,200 plus P115 cellphone load allowance to conduct the operation. He said he and other members in the bribery operation received instructions from a "backchecker" from Iloilo.

He said he was able to identify 89 metered households when he was still working for the bribery operation.

The informant said their group also monitored metered households chosen by TNS-Trends but later focused on AGB Nielsen households because their employer wanted to influence the ratings. He said their employer wanted to cut down on ABS-CBN's lead in nationwide TV ratings by tampering with the viewing habits of metered households in Bacolod.

Tainted, tampered

Tin said ABS-CBN presented the informant to AGB Nielsen officials to discuss the alleged bribery of metered households. She said that the informant was not paid for his testimony.

She said ABS-CBN sued AGB Nielsen after it failed to ensure the network that its entire NUTAM panel was not tainted.

"[AGB Nielsen] said that they need to investigate further but in our opinion, the fact that one area has been breached, we need them to check how much breach has happened to the total panel...They have to be able to say that the whole panel is clean," she said.

"If they say that it’s only one area they have to be able to categorically say that it is only in one area and they are not in a position to do that at this point. So in the interest of truth they cannot keep on releasing data that they cannot guarantee to be untainted," she added.

Tin said that despite the lawsuit, ABS-CBN has no interest in not using AGB Nielsen Media ratings results.

"The point is the whole industry uses that data for decision-making. So we need for them to ensure that the thing that is used as a currency in the industry is true," she said, adding: "It’s not in our interest to stop using them. We just want them to guarantee that the data that are being used are correct."

Responding to a question, Uy said ABS-CBN sued AGB Nielsen and not the network that supposedly funded the bribery operation because ABS-CBN's contract is with the research firm. "In our contract with AGB, [the firm] has the obligation to deliver accurate ratings," he said.

He declined to identify the "backchecker" linked to the bribery operation, saying that the name would be revealed in the proper forum.

Ratings war

Tin said it was difficult to know the overall effect of the bribery attempts on ABS-CBN's ratings. "We don’t know to what degree that activity has impacted our ratings as a part of the national ratings in Bacolod and we cannot say that it’s not happening in any other areas so it is really hard to say how big the breach is, which is where I go back to what we have asked AGB to do. You have to make sure that the same breach has not happened anywhere else," she told reporters.

She also dismissed a question that ABS-CBN was raising the bribery issue as a ploy to get a ratings boost. "We are doing this as we continue to enjoy the leadership nationwide. If we are tailing the other station that could be the situation but as we speak we are still the national leader. So I don’t think that that should be an issue at this point," she said.

In a related development, ABS-CBN's main rival, GMA-7, expressed concern over the possible manipulation of AGB ratings.

"The accuracy of the ratings of the TV programs is of utmost importance not only to the TV stations but also to the advertisers, ad agencies, and the viewing public," a statement posted on the GMA News website said.

"For more than four years now, GMA Network has been complaining to AGB about the highly illogical and unexplainable disparity between the cable and non-cable ratings of GMA’s programs, which do not obtain in respect to ABS-CBN’s programs. GMA-7 is keenly interested in getting at the bottom of this if there is any basis at all to the said reports," the report added.

In our province alone, masasabi ko malakas talaga ang network coverage ng ABS-CBN kaya talo nila sa audience share ang GMA dahil hirap ang network coverage ng 7.. I did experienced that.. ABS talaga ang malakas,,kahit Channel 9, 4, 13, 5 di mo talaga makuha siya..ang 7 namna may oras na puede mo lang mapanood ang kanilang programming pero sa ABS-CBN..lhat ng shows nila talagang abot.

I will admit ng Hwang Jin Yi fanatic ako sabi ko naman yung sa ABS-CBN ..ng malaman ko na hindi nila kinuha ito..sa oras pinalabas ito.. bibitawan ko ang panonood sa sasabay sa airing ng show nito ang anu mang makatapat nito.. I will admit Hwang Jin Yi is one of the Korean Drama that is really powerful cast made and talaga naman literature wise you will be educated enough.

See, from our point of view yung pinapanood ng karamihan daw ng mga Pilipino ay di naman dekalidad and in fact kababawan ang mga pinanggagawa..But the ratings are saying otherwise!!! Eto daw ang pinapanood ng mga Pilipino dahil eto ang mataas sa ratings! DAHIL sa isinampang kaso ng ABS-CBN kontra sa media research group na AGB Nielsen kahapon ng hapon, nagpadala ng official statement ang rival network nitong GMA-7 at nagpahayag ng pagkabahala tungkol sa isyu.

Narito po ang kabuuan ng nasabing statement, na in-email sa entertainment press ng corporate communications department ng Siyete:

“Nababahala ang GMA Network sa ulat na ang ratings ng mga TV program na galing sa AGB Nielsen ay maaaring manipulahin.

Ang totoong ratings ng mga TV program ay napakahalaga hindi lamang para sa mga TV station, kundi maging sa mga advertiser, mga ad agency at sa mga manonood.

bacolod is really a kapamilya country. i have a lot of relatives there and when we gathered together, lagi namin pinag-uusapan ang mga palabas ng abs-cbn. when it comes sa mga kantahan, sikat din ang mga songs ng mga kapamilya singers. pinakasikat sa lahat si willie, my lil cousin dance along with boom tarat tarat, sayaw darling, etc. add na natin ang papaya ni edu.

i can say sa iloilo, hati-hati pa. may kapuso, meron din kapamilya. pero sa bacolod, no doubt, it's a kapamilya country. :)

In a letter dated 16 October 2006 sent to advertisers and media agencies,
GMA Marketing & Productions President & COO Mr. Manuel P. Quiogue expressed GMA's
"critical concerns" about our television ratings data.

The focus of GMA's "critical concerns" was the big difference in the viewing of certain
GMA programs between cable and non-cable viewers and between Sky Cable/Home Cable
subscribers and other cable companies' subscribers.

Time and again, we have explained to GMA what we think are the possible causes of the
aforesaid difference in viewership. As early as 2003, we gave our response to the Television
Research Council which managed the study for the industry and gave its own response to GMA.

We even consulted GMA in 2005, along with other partners in the industry, when we set up
a new audience measurement panel for Mega Manila following the merger with Nielsen Media
Research. Significantly, even after 100% of all cable panels were replaced, the data differences
for cable viewing remained approximately the same.

Understandably, there will be occasions when not everyone will be pleased with our TV audience
measurement results; some will be very disappointed. But on other occasions our broadcaster
clients can bevery happy with the ratings data. Interestingly, those same broadcasters never
question the results when their programs perform well.

THE miniature Christmas tree perched on top of Ai Ai delas Alas’ hair was a scene-stealer at the One Country One Station One Christmas: ABS-CBN 2007 Christmas Special held Wednesday night at the Meralco Theater. Of course, present to lend their magic to the night were the biggest stars of the Kapamilya network who joined hands in providing song and dance numbers for the special to be aired on Sunday on ABS-CBN.

Sharon Cuneta, Gary Valenciano, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Martin Nievera, Kuh Ledesma, Comedy King Dolphy, and Charo Santos Concio were there.

The hosts include Edu Manzano, Korina Sanchez, Luis Manzano, John Lloyd Cruz, Angelica Panganiban, Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Mariel Rodriguez, Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzales, Pokwang, and Vhong Navarro.

A special song number featured the drama queens Claudine Barretto, Bea Alonzo, Kristine Hermosa, plus Angel Locsin

The Star Magic talents led by Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Shaina Magdayao, Rayver Cruz, Then there are the matinee idols – Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo, Victor Basa, Rafael Rosell, among others. Sa cocktails pa lang pa-bulosa na ang paghahandang ginawa ng Dos para salubungin ang mga naglalakihang artista at network executives nu’ng gabing ‘yun.

Nag-take turns sa pag-hu-host ng buong special sina OMB Chairman Edu Manzano at Korina Sanchez, Judy Ann Santos at Ryan Agoncillo, Angelica Panganiban at Derek Ramsay, Vhong Navarro, Luis Manzano at Iya Villaniia, et al.

It's really not surprising why the other station has the motivation to do this thing because Bacolod will now be included in the ratings game... I've been there last holy week and all the MANUKAN COUNTRY are watching WOWOWEE at mga bata n nanonood are dancing BOOM TARAT! hahaha...It's CLEAR kasi na if they don't do some dirty tactics at siraan ang ABS in any means di talaga nila makukuha ang loyal ABS viewers... For me, there's really truth in this incidence (maybe may bias ako but it shows)...

Action star Ace Vergel dies of heart attack

Former action star Ace Vergel died of a heart attack before dawn Saturday, December 15. Ace, who earned the reputation as "Bad Boy of Philippine Movies" was 55.

The actor's last "brush" with the law took place last August, when police served a warrant for his arrest in Caloocan City for supposed rape cases lodged against him in 2000. But he was eventually released after police learned the warrant had been lifted.

It was reported that Vergel was also linked to illegal drugs, but the charges against him were dismissed.

Ace, whose real name is Ace York Aguilar, was born on January 22, 1952. He was the son of actress Alicia Vergel and actor Cesar Ramirez, and the brother of Beverly Vergel.

He made his acting debut at age 7 when he portrayed the friend of a giant bird in the 1959 film Anak ng Bulkan starring Fernando Poe Jr. and Edna Luna. His last film was Masamang Ugat, also starring Eddie Garcia and Victor Neri, shown in 2003.

Ace's other memorable films were Annie Sabungera, Zimatar, Pieta, Bomba Arrienda, Anak ng Cabron, Galit Sa Mundo, Sagad Hanggang Buto, Abel Villarama, among others.

He won best actor at Gawad Urian in 1989 for his role in Anak ng Cabron.

love the abs-cbn special, ganda ng mga song numbers. kaya lang when it comes sa dance number wherein mga star magic talents, di ko na sila maisa-isa. ang bilis ng stint nila. bongga si jake ha! may solo number pa. love the portion of kc, puro theater performers kasama niya. ganda niya kagabi! mga kids, sad to say, walang solo si charise, si aria ang binigyan pansin along with makisig but okay lang, at least she was there naman. and the portion of "reyna ng mga drama", bakit di kasama si juday? for sure, complain to the max naman tong si lolo alfie, let wait and see na lang. all in all it was great and worth puyat.

Kasama si Ara Mina sa hosts ng Wowowee na umalis noong Miyerkules ng gabi para mag-show sa Guam. Guest ito sa show sa Sabado na sabi’y ipantatapat sa Abu Dhabi show ng Eat Bulaga.

Kasamang umalis ni Ara ang kapatid na si Cristine Reyes, na tatayong stylist niya at magbabakasyon.

Ipinagpaalam nito sa GMA Artists Center ang kapatid at pinayagan dahil ’di naman lalabas sa TV.

Hindi lang sa nasabing noontime show lumalabas si Ara, dahil papasok din siya sa Prinsesa ng Banyera kapalit ni Angelika dela Cruz at okey lang daw dito na kontrabida ang kanyang role.

Kung ’di last week ng December, first week ng January next year ang taping niya rito.

Mas madalas nang napapanood sa shows ng ABS-CBN si Ara, kaya ’di maiwasang isipin na aalis na siya sa GMA-7.

Ang Bubble Gang at ang mga kasama niya sa gag show lang daw ang pumipigil dito para tuluyang umalis sa Channel 7.

Bigla nga lang itong lumabo nang may magsabi sa amin na tinanggap na ni Ara ang Babangon Ako at Dudurugin Kita ng Siyete after i-reject ang mother role na unang ibinigay sa kanya.

Ganda nga ng ABS-CBN Christmas Special! Yah i also noticed that wala si Judy Ann sa mga reyna ng drama..But for me okay lang, walang modo kasi manager nyan saka nandun naman si Angel Locsin..hahaha.. as i understand the reason why ABS decided to sue AGB Nielsen was because there was an attempt to bribe viewers to switch channel according to the informant...so if they succeed in this bribery, ratings will be manipulated..maiiba yung lalabas sa machine...meaning you manipulate the people automatically you manipulate the ratings bec. kaya naman may ratings ay dahil sa mga taong nanonood...just my opinion.

IN fairness, may chemistry rin naman pala sina Dennis Trillo, Pauleen Luna at Roxanne Guinoo bilang love triangle.

Nakita rin siguro ito ni Mother Lily Monteverde ng Regal Entertainment kaya sila ang pinagsama-sama sa episode na Bangungot ng Shake, Rattle and Roll 9, kaisa-isang horror entry sa Metro Manila Film Festival ngayong Dec. 25.

Ang nakaloloka, labanan ng laplapan ang nasabing episode. Pareho kasing may kissing scene sina Pauleen at Roxanne kay Dennis, kaya nagmistula silang nagpatalbugan sa kani-kanilang kissing scene, na tinilian naman nang husto ng fans sa successful premiere night last Sunday night sa SM Megamall.

As usual, takaw-pansin na naman si Nash Aguas, na nasa episode namang Christmas Tree ng SRR9. Mula sa direksyon ni Paul Daza, tinilian nang husto ang episode dahil na rin sa mga nakagugulat na effects.

Third episode naman ang Engkanto, na ang mga bida’y pinagsama-samang talents ng Star Magic ng ABS-CBN at GMA Artist Center, tulad nina Matt Evans, Melissa Ricks, Matt Escudero, Jewel Mische at Felix Roco.

Sa dinner blowout, nakausap ng press si Roxanne at ang tungkol pa rin sa hiwalayan nila ni Jake Cuenca ang itinanong sa kanya.

Tulad ni Jake, walang kumpirmasyon ang young actress kung sila pa ba o hindi na, pero say niya, may Christmas gift siya for Jake.

Naikuwento nga rin pala ng dalaga na next year, may nakatakdang malaking project sa kanya ang ABS-CBN kung saan ay makakasama niya si Claudine Barretto.

After seeing Quentin Tarantino in Barong Tagalog when he showed up at the Golden Globe Awards nominations (to announce the nominees in the acting categories) last week, another pleasant surprise awaits Filipinos in the US when they tune in to Ellen DeGeneres’ self-titled show today, Dec. 18.

Ellen’s special guest is none other than our very own Charice Pempengco who finished third runner-up on ABS-CBN’s Little Big Star search last year. See what they’ve been saying about also-rans turning out to be, well, “more noticed” than the winners usually are.

What’s interesting is that it was Ellen herself who sought out Charice and insisted that she guest on her show.

You might be wondering how Charice got Ellen’s attention. Anyway, Charice’s fan who called herself “False Voice” uploads Charice’s videos in YouTube.com everytime Charice has a performance. It so happened that an Ellen staffer saw Charice’s YouTube videos and was impressed. The staffer called the attention of Ed Shapiro, Ellen’s lawyer, and Shapiro wasted no time in finding Charice’s e-mail address and promptly sent Charice a message. That’s how their exchange of e-mails started.

Last Nov. 28, the Ellen staffer got Charice’s contact number from Shapiro and, voila, after barely 20 minutes, Ellen called Charice and said, “Oh my God, I am your No. 1 fan. I want you here ASAP! I am so proud of you. See you here in the US.”

You know that processing of a US visa takes two to three months, but Charice got hers in only two weeks. Top-rate immigration lawyer and STAR columnist Michael Gurfinkel came to the rescue.

That same day (Nov. 28), Shapiro made a call to Gurfinkel’s L.A. office and, within minutes, Gurfinkel ordered his Makati office to contact Raquel Pempengco, Charice’s mother. On Nov. 29, Gurfinkel’s office received Charice’s documents and Gurfinkel’s L.A. office filed a consultation letter from the US guild of musicians that same day. On Nov. 30, the guild approved Gurfinkel’s request and, that same day, Gurfinkel’s L.A. office filed the petition with the US Immigration. A week later, on Dec. 6, Charice got her O1 (Entertainer Visa) from the US Immigration. On Dec. 12, Gurfinkel, who rushed to Manila, briefed Charice and her mom on the interview with the US Embassy in Manila. Charice got her visa the same day. On Dec. 13, she was off to the US for her guesting on Ellen, a big first for a Filipino artist.

“Michael also helped Raquel obtain her (Philippine) passport and US visa,” said Millie, Michael’s wife. “I’m happy for Charice.”

Charice started singing at age four and joining contests at seven. Before placing third runner-up on Little Big Star search, she competed in other shows, including Birit Bulilit (on IBC Channel 13), Batang Kampeon (RPN 9), Bulilit Popstar (GMA 7) and Junior Star Quest (also on ABS-CBN).

Last June, she recorded for Sweden Recording Company and last October, she was a guest performer at a talent show in Korea.

Among her favorite singers are Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé Knowles and Celine Dion.

Meanwhile, let’s wish Charice “good luck” on her big break in US TV. (Notes: Filipinos in the Philippines will have a chance to see Charice’s guesting hopefully before the month is over when Ellen is telecast here on 2nd Avenue on cable TV.)

TV giant ABS-CBN has sued media research agency AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines over its alleged “systematic organized and well-funded attempt” to rig television ratings.

The network filed a P63-million civil case before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court against AGB Nielsen for damages and injunction with an application for a temporary restraining order, the network’s chief legal counsel Maximilian Uy said.

Ironically, GMA7 which is topping the ratings, expressed its own sentiments over the AGB results.

Their complaint (although not a formal suit) which they have been airing since last year is about the cable ratings which they doubt are accurate.

Well, to each his own. But we are sure the advertisers know what they are doing. They would not place millions of pesos on a network they think doesn’t deliver.

Patuloy na lumalawak ang isyu ng suhulan diumano sa TV ratings pagkatapos lumantad ang isang informant na lumapit sa ABS-CBN para ibunyag ang pinakamalaking kontrobersiya ngayon sa TV industry. Simula pa lang daw ang paglantad ng informant para sa mas matitindi pang ebidensiya na posibleng magdidiin sa "network" na sangkot sa suhulan.

First week of December ay nagpadala na raw ng sulat ang ABS-CBN sa AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines, ang ahensiya na binabayaran ng mga TV network para maglabas ng data report ng mga programa sa telebisyon na pinapanood ng local viewers.

Sumulat ang ABS-CBN sa AGB Nielsen upang ipaalam na nakatanggap sila ng report na may katiwaliang nagaganap sa pagkalap nila ng ratings sa Bacolod at hiniling din nila na pansamantalang ipatigil ang pagpapalabas ng data. Hindi ito ginawa ng AGB Nielsen kaya nagdesisyon ang ABS-CBN na magsampa ng civil case laban sa naturang media research company noong December 14.

Kahapon, December 19, ay nakatanggap kami ng kopya ng isang sulat para kay "Sheila Tan," Vice-President for Research ng GMA Network, Inc., mula sa AGB Nielsen Media Research General Manager na si "Ms. Maya E. Reforma" dated December 3, 2007. Narito ang nilalaman ng sulat:

"It has come to our attention that certain activities being conducted by your company in Visayas have led to some of our panel homes being contacted by your employees or representatives.

"As users of our data, I am sure you are aware that maintaining the security of our panel homes is fundamental to ensuring the integrity and credibility of our TAM [TV Audience Measurement] service in the Philippines. Any contact with the panel homes, whether intended or unintended, is unacceptable and we have no option but to fully evaluate the extent of the panel home intervention and its impact on the ratings data. Depending on our findings, we may suspend the ratings data in a specific region.

"Because of the seriousness of this matter, we have a responsibility to advise the industry of what has happened and what action we plan to ensure the dependability of our TAM service. We also intend forming an evaluation group comprised of major agencies and advertisers to assist our investigations and work with us to formulate an effective approach to panel security.

"To assist us in our inquiry, I would be grateful if you could provide answers to the following questions:

1. What type of activities have been conducted by GMA in Visayas?
2. In what specific barangays and municipalities have been conducted?
3. Since when have these activities been conducted?
4. Have the same or similar activities been conducted in Mindanao? In what specific areas and when?
5. Do you agree that protecting the identity of the panel homes is of utmost importance to maintaining a credible TAM service?
6. Is GMA prepared to endorse any industry initiatives to protect the identity of panel homes?"

Ang sulat daw na ito ang magpapatunay na bago pa man magsampa ng kaso sa korte ang ABS-CBN laban sa AGB Nielsen ay posibleng nakarating na ang sulat na ito sa GMA-7, na taliwas sa naunang report na hindi aware ang Kapuso network na may alingasngas na tungkol sa isyu ng suhulan diumano sa ratings.

After ABS CBN filed charges against them, AGB Nielsen today admitted that there was a manipulation on the ratings in Bacolod during a hearing at the Quezon CIty Regional Trial Court under Judge Charito Gonzales.

dzMM reported that AGB Nielsen general Manager Maya Reforma pointed to GMA 7 behind the manipulation of ratings but said GMA was merely doing promotional activities in Bacolod.

ABS CBN has since filed a temporary restraining order against AGB Nielsen to stop showing its ratings.

The network has already clarified that they will not file charges against GMA 7 as their problem is with AGB Nielsen.

The controversy erupted when a man approached the Kapamilya network and admitted that he was asked to put devices in certain households in Bacolod to monitor the ratings of various shows.

GMA 7 has earlier release a statement saying that they want to get to the bottom of the issue after ABS took legal action.

Once again, the Filipino will have the chance to show the world what great talent we have through 15-year-old Charice Pempengco. The former grand finalist from the now defunct talent search "Little Big Star" will be making a guest appearance on WB's "The Ellen Degeneres Show" this week.

The young singer revealed that the famous Hollywood talk show host praised and gave her what could be the greatest compliment one could ever receive from a well-recognized TV personality.

"She said that she's my number one fan," shared the enthusiastic girl. "I was really shocked when she said that."

Charice got the invitation last month. The video that wowed viewers, including Ellen, is uploaded on the website www.youtube.com (http://www.youtube.com/), showing the young belter performing an upbeat song in a Korean TV show. http://beta.abs-cbn.com/Portals/1/TV%20Programs/tvpatrol121907-2.jpg

No one knows yet what song Charice is singing when she appears on The Ellen Degeneres Show but it is the least of the girl's worries. What excites Charice more is having the chance to meet the intelligent Hollywood host/actress.

"A little bit nervous, but more on (being) excited," she uttered when asked how she feels. "It's my first time (to appear on the show) and I'm gonna meet Ellen Degeneres!"

Charice joined Little Big Star when she was just 12 years old. She eventually made her way to the grand finals and has been a strong contender. By then, she also is labeled as a singing sensation.

In the end, she only placed third. Nonetheless, she never ran out of singing engagements and got invitations from abroad to perform. And the latest one, which is a guest performance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, is a vindication that her talent is internationally recognized.

HOW RATINGS ARE HARVESTED

In a video presentation presented by ABS-CBN officials, the informant said he was hired to conduct the bribery operation late last year. At least seven people were allegedly involved in the operation to bribe metered households in Bacolod, he said.

He said they were able to identify the metered households by following a certain Edward who was assigned by AGB Nielsen to install the TV meters in Bacolod. He said they used motorbikes to follow Edward who usually rode a multi-cab with the plate number GNU-107 when going to the NUTAM households. He said Edward did not know he was being followed.

The informant said that after the meters were installed, their group then approached the members of the household and told them to switch to another channel in exchange for P500 in cash plus groceries. He added that many of the people they approached accepted the bribes because of financial hardship.

The informant said he was given a monthly salary of P6,200 plus P115 cellphone load allowance to conduct the operation. He said he and other members in the bribery operation received instructions from a "backchecker" from Iloilo.

He said he was able to identify 89 metered households when he was still working for the bribery operation.

The informant said their group also monitored metered households chosen by TNS-Trends but later focused on AGB Nielsen households because their employer wanted to influence the ratings. He said their employer wanted to cut down on ABS-CBN's lead in nationwide TV ratings by tampering with the viewing habits of metered households in Bacolod.

After ABS CBN filed charges against them, AGB Nielsen today admitted that there was a manipulation on the ratings in Bacolod during a hearing at the Quezon CIty Regional Trial Court under Judge Charito Gonzales.

dzMM reported that AGB Nielsen general Manager Maya Reforma pointed to GMA 7 behind the manipulation of ratings but said GMA was merely doing promotional activities in Bacolod.

ABS CBN has since filed a temporary restraining order against AGB Nielsen to stop showing its ratings.

The network has already clarified that they will not file charges against GMA 7 as their problem is with AGB Nielsen.

The controversy erupted when a man approached the Kapamilya network and admitted that he was asked to put devices in certain households in Bacolod to monitor the ratings of various shows.

GMA 7 has earlier release a statement saying that they want to get to the bottom of the issue after ABS took legal action.

The yuletide season would be painfully quiet for all television ratings enthusiasts. This after the Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued a temporary restraining order to AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines in response to the legal complaint filed by ABS-CBN against the international-based company.

In a text message sent by ABS-CBN to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) earlier today, it said that the court ordered AGB Nielsen to "cease and desist from data gathering in release of TV audience measurement data for 20 days."

The TRO was part ABS-CBN's appeal to the court when they filed a civil case against AGB Nielsen for damages and injunction last December 14, 2007.

The Kapamilya network is questioning the authenticity of the television ratings data being produced daily by AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines after an informant reportedly spilled details that the households tapped for the survey in Bacolod were penetrated by an outside party, thus influencing the viewing behavior of the sampled groups.

"Given the importance of the service and the impact it has to the decisions of networks and advertisers, we have demanded that AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines shut down their service and investigate the degree to which their panel has been breached," said in a statement furnished by the Lopez-owned network to the press last December 14.

"We asked that they resume their service only after they can fully assure their clients that the panel has been completely cleaned," it further added.

GMA to sue ABS-CBN over ratings manipulation claims

Broadcast company GMA Network, Inc. on Thursday said it will file a libel suit against competitor ABS-CBN, its radio station dzMM, and one of the radio station's reporter over what it said were false allegations of ratings manipulation.

In a press conference, GMA legal counsel **** Perez said the network's legal team found libelous the report made by Junrie Hidalgo, a reporter of radio dzMM which is owned by rival ABS-CBN alleging GMA's manipulation of ratings in Bacolod City.

GMA said Hidalgo erroneously reported that ratings firm AGB Nielsen named GMA Network as the brains behind an operation to bribe metered households in Bacolod to watch GMA shows and influence the ratings.

Hidalgo's report was angled: "AGB Nielsen umamin sa dayaan, GMA Network tahasang itinuro sa likod ng dayaan."

GMA Network had earlier categorically denied the report, and noted that AGB Nielsen officials themselves belied the report, and cleared GMA of the accusations.

“This strong denial by GMA Network comes at the heels of radio commentaries, news reports on TV and print falsely claiming that AGB named GMA Network as the network allegedly behind the TV ratings manipulation," GMA Network said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange.

“The affidavit in court submitted by Maya Reforma of AGB Nielsen belied such accusation against GMA Network," GMA Network said, adding that Reforma’s affidavit showed that AGB Nielsen's ratings data remains accurate and reliable, untainted by alleged bribery operations. - GMANews.TV

ABS-CBN should expect a Christmas stocking full of suits from GMA-7.

Isang emergency presscon ang ipinatawag ng GMA-7 kaninang umaga, December 20, regarding the official statement na ipinalabas ng Kapuso network kagabi, December 19, patungkol sa DZMM report na ginawa ni Junrie Hidalgo—kung saan tahasang itinuturo raw ng AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines ang GMA-7 na nasa likod ng dayan ng ratings sa Bacolod.

Sina Ms. Rikki Escudero, GMA Head of Regional TV and AVP for Expansion and Production Services; Atty. **** Perez; VP for Legal Affairs; and Ms. Sheila Tan, VP for Research ang humarap sa entertainment press after an early lunch.

Binasa ni Ms. Escudero ang official statement na lumabas na rin dito sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) kagabi, emphatically punctuating every point the statement wants to raise.

Pagkatapos nito, ‘tsaka nagkaroon ng general question and answer portion.

Ang unang itinanong, kung bakit magkaiba ang naging action ng GMA-7 at ABS-CBN regarding their AGB Nielsen complaint. Matatandaan kasing four years ago pa ay nagku-complain na ang GMA-7 sa AGB Nielsen dahil hindi sa maipaliwanag na dahilan tungkol sa disparity ng cable at non-cable ratings ng GMA programs. Samantala, kasabay ng reklamo ng ABS-CBN na may anomalya diumano sa resulta ng ratings sa Bacolod ay ang pagsasampa nila ng P63-million civil case against AGB Nielsen.

"We did the responsible thing. We don't want to do trial by publicity," sagot ni Ms. Escudero.

Isang important point ang ni-raise ni Ms. Escudero: there is no local GMA-7 TV station in Bacolod.

"We don't even have a [TV] station in Bacolod. All we have there is a radio station. For several years, we have not been very active in the production areas. Ngayon lang kami muli nagpapapakilala, introducing ourselves," paliwanag niya.

Matatandaang sa Bacolod ang source ng complaint ng ABS-CBN sa AGB Nielsen, kung saan isang informant daw na may connection sa GMA-7 ang naging source.

"You should never be premature in your actions. Anyone can introduce themselves as a GMA employee but we need evidence," sabi ni Ms. Escudero.

Ang pinakahihintay ng mga press na dumalo ay kung ano ang immediate action ng GMA-7 tungkol dito.

"We have already referred this to our legal department," sagot ni Atty. Perez.

Pressed for a more specific answer, Atty. Perez said that they will file libel cases. Kung kailan, "soon" ang sagot niya.

"It should not be long. It might even be before Christmas, so Merry Christmas to one and all," pahayag ni Atty. Perez.

Pagkatapos ng general Q&A, tinanong ng PEP si Atty. Perez kung puwede pa siyang maging specific kung sino ang mga binabalak nilang idemanda.

"Junrie [Hidalgo], of course, and whoever is connected," sagot ni Atty. Perez.

We asked kung kasama rin ang DZMM at ABS-CBN and he said "yes."
