Korean Drama: Sweet Spy

The production of Sweet Spy was supposed to begin on May 2006, but because of unforeseen circumstances, the shooting schedule had to be moved to an earlier date, resulting in an abrupt filming of the drama. On top of that, the heroine of the drama was replaced by Nam Sang-Mi only 3 days before the shooting date, drastically changing the storyline and giving the drama production a very rough start. On the other hand, the drama’s stars Dennis Oh, a model turned actor and Nam Sang-Mi made top news, since this was Dennis Oh’s first drama and the widely known Nam Sang-Mi’s first leading role.

Although the drama’s finale was vague, which led to many complains from viewers, the discovery of these new actors and the rare mixture of the thriller-action-comic-mellow drama genre formed new mania fan clubs. Even after the drama ended, there were many rumors of a sequel or a movie remake.

Drama Synopsis
Sun-Ae, who has had a rough childhood, and a policeman named Min-Uk meet and marry having a happy life together. However, soon after, Min-Uk is killed in a suspicious car accident, while investigating the secrets of an international criminal organization. Sun-Ae finds herself as an policewoman, but is demoted to a small neighborhood police station due to her frequent mistakes.
Somehow, Sun-Ae coincidentally picks up a pen, which is an importance piece of evidence that could crack the investigation case, but is unaware of this fact. However, strange things begin to happen. A detective investigating this case, Kang Jun, and an international spy, Han Yu-Il who wants to make a transaction for this secret continues to approach Sun-Ae. But as Kang Jun and Han Yu-Il begin to take interest in the bright and cheerful Sun-Ae, the plot falls into a more complicated and winding maze.

Character Introductions
Lee Sun-Ae / Played by Nam Sang-Mi

Sun-Ae’s family situation falls into hard times during her high school years, and consequently begins to work right after graduation. Although she marries a policeman named Min-Uk, at a young age, the newly-weds are soon torn apart when she loses her husband in a questionable car accident.
Sun-Ae is then hired as a policeman instead of her husband, but is soon placed at a local public security center since she is notorious for making mistakes quite often. Since she is full of curiosity, she listens well to the people’s problems and pays careful attention to them. Sun-Ae has a bright and cheerful personality, with a naturally warm heart, who doesn’t lose her smile even during times of hardships.
Kang Jun / Played by Lee Ju-Hyeon

Kang Jun, being born an illegitimate child, has a difficult upbringing working part-time jobs here and there. He decides to become a policeman and goes to a police academy, not only to be exempt from tuition fees, but also because he would have a more promising future. Kang Jun graduates from the academy at the top of his class and exhibits a great ability as a policeman. As a result, he is the first in his class to be promoted to an inspector, taking the highroad to success.
However, he not only likes to keep to himself, but also has an inconsiderate and cold personality with very few close friends. Kang Jun has a sharp character with a special knack in solving cases.
Park Eun-Ju / Played by Yu-Seon

Park Eun-Ju is raised like a princess, receiving all sorts of special education for the gifted, being born as the oldest daughter of the most honored police family in Korea. She graduates from the same police academy as Kang Jun at the top of her class and is perfect in every area, possessing beauty and talent, also coming from an upper-class family.
Although she tries to seduce Kang Jun, the most popular guy at the National Police Agency, her pride is hurt as he is smitten by Sun-Ae. Park Eun-Ju turns into a wicked character luring the naïve Sun-Ae into a dangerous trap. She is arrogant and selfish.
Han Yu-Il / Played by Dennis Oh

Han Yu-Il is a mysterious character that has nothing but money. His upbringing and country of origin is unknown, but he has a good command of English, Japanese, French, German, and Russian languages.
Suddenly, one day he begins to handle Korea's 2nd largest financial industry using his money. Besides his occasional business travels to Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong, Han Yu-Il’s only hobby is boxing at the gym. He has a cold nature and hides his true intentions.

In the fall and winter of 2006, Koreans were saying “Ggo ra ji ha go neun! (Look at you)” just about everywhere you went, repeating the words from the drama “Couple of Trouble’s” female leading actress.
This drama is a remake of 1987 Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn’s “Overboard,” where a rich, arrogant woman meets a poor construction contractor and falls in love, in the midst of all their quarreling.
The fast-paced yet comical drama became quite popular, consequently turning its film locations of Namhae Island into famous tourist sites.
Namhae, situated in the Aegean Sea, is just 5 hours away from Seoul by car turned into an un-island-like island in 1973 with the construction of a bridge connecting it to Korea peninsular.
Although the drama was filmed all around Namhae Island, its film location for the main neighborhood was taken at the “German Village”. The main male character, Jang Cheol-Su’s house is still presently exists untouched. Furthermore, other film locations within the German village such as the “Mulgeon Port” set have been preserved.
Let’s now travel to “Couple of Trouble’s” film locations on the beautiful island of Namhae.

[Synopsis]Jo Anna is a successor of a tremendous amount of inheritance and has no peers above her here on earth or even in the heavens. Her husband is not even a person worthy of her respect. Her husband, Park Billy, is a subservient fellow who always has to be aware of Jo Anna’s moods, while a man named Jang Cheol-Su is a man with no money, no education, and on top of that, has three kids to look after.

This is a laugh-your-heart-out comical drama centered on these three characters in “Couple of Trouble.” As Jo Anna loses her memory due to a boat accident, Jang Cheol-Su takes the amnesia patient in, even though she is a woman without discretion and a woman who doesn’t know how to do anything.

Jang Cheol-Su / Played by Oh Zio

A small-scale private building contractor president who is willing to do any type of work for money, since the small size of the village doesn’t bring in much business. For money, he wakes up in the middle of a deep night’s sleep, and if any financial loss is a part of his responsibility, he will take revenge at any cost.
He is a shameless person who has a good-natured side as well. He takes loving care of three nephews that his older brother left behind.

A real-estate inheritance successor, whose arrogance is so overbearing, that it even seems cute at times. She is a tough woman to tough people as well as to the weak. She says everything that is on her mind, whether appropriate or not, and for that reason, she is called a witch.

Park Billy / Played by Kim Sung-Min

A weak-minded, servile elite husband of Jo Anna.
He makes a big mistake since his delicate heart is broken while tending to his harsh wife.

Oh Yu-Gyeong / Played by Park Han-Byul

She leaves Jang Cheol-Su who is penniless but isn’t able to shake her lingering attachment to him. Although she appears to be a fragile woman who can be swept away by the wind, she is a cunning fox who conjures every means to win Jang Cheol-Su back.

Actress Yun Eun-Hye returns to the TV set 1 year after her role in KBS drama’s ‘Vineyard Man’, where she says, “Now I will be able to show my acting talent”.

The MBC Monday, Tuesday drama ‘Coffee Prince Store 1 (writers Lee Jeong-Ah, Jang Hyeon-Ju, Director Lee Yoon-Jeong) held a production conference in the CCMM building on the 26th at 3pm in Yeoido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.

Actress Yun Eun-Hye stated her opinions, “I fully trust the director, and haven’t worried too much about the production. I wanted to show a higher level of acting rather than my usual spunky roles.”

Based on the writer Lee Seon-Mi’s original romance novel under the same name, ‘Coffee Prince Store 1’, actors Gong Yu, Lee Seon-Gyun, Chae Jeong-An, and Yun Eun-Hye present the dreams and love of four people.

Yun Eun-Hye plays Ko Eun-Chan, a woman who dresses up as a man to get a part time job at a coffee shop. Yun Eun-Hye expressed her thoughts on her new haircut in order to play a woman dressed up as a man, “My hair will grow again, but it’s hard to find a production that will help me grow as an actress, and that is why I didn’t regret cutting my hair.”

She added, “In ‘Palace’, I felt like I was still an amateur, and there were some scenes I was not satisfied with in ‘Vineyard Man’, but my third drama will allow me to show another level of my acting instead of the same old spunky character.”

Yun Eun-Hye shared her thoughts about her new role, “This character tries to be bright and stay positive in front of others, and I was pleased with the fact that I can display such an upbeat character.”

On the other hand, MBC Best Theater drama ‘Taereung Training Center’, production director Lee Yun-Jeong, is planning to use some unique directing and production techniques. The general public has great expectation for this director

Kris turns down three film offers


Now that she’s back to television after giving birth to Baby James, Kris also got swamped with offers for TV commercials and movies.

Baby James was only one month old when he did the pictorial for Bench baby cologne with mom Kris and older brother Joshua. Baby James was reportedly paid more than P1 million for his first product endorsement.

The 36-year-old Kris can obviously give way to TV assignments and product endorsements. On top of having two daily shows on ABS-CBN – the nightly game show "Deal or No Deal" and the daily morning program, "Boy and Kris," with Boy Abunda – Kris will soon host a lifestyle talk show, "Weekends With Kris." The said show will replace "The Buzz," which Kris left after giving birth.

But when it comes to films, Kris had to decline and beg off from the offers, at least for the meantime. She said she promised herself that she will not make movies until Baby James turns one year old. So that means she can only give way to any offer till after April next year.

Kris maintains her taping schedule now even with the two shows is considerably less tedious. Even if she tapes Mondays to Fridays, she makes it a point to finish early in the evening so she can sleep before 10 p.m.

Iniisip namin dun eh ung mga fantasy genre na teleserye since malakas talaga noon ung wansapanataym...

Siempre, iniisip namin na pinoy version ng Little Mermaid... During the interview, tinanong nga sa friend ko kung anung maiisip nyang bagong show na magiging hit... sinabi nya ung storya ng isang sirena at ung bida ang name 'Marina'...sagot ng interviewer... di raw siguro papatok yun kase mahal ung gastos at mga costumes...

My friend didn't get the job...pero after ilang months... waahhhh may Marina na headed by Wenn Deramas!

We're planning to sue the people behind Marina pero since wala ngang written document at verbal lang ung interview,...wala pinabayaan na lang namin... :(

NAKATAKDANG magharap sa Martes ang big boss ng ABS-CBN na si Mr. Gabby Lopez at si Judy Ann Santos, kasama ang manager niyang si Alfie Lorenzo.

Sa presscon kamakailan ng Ouija ng GMA Films, nagsalita si Juday tungkol sa hindi pagpayag ng Dos na makapag-promote sila ni Jolina Magdangal sa alinmang show ng Dos.

Sa presscon pa rin ng Ouija last Thursday night, walang ideya si Juday kung ano ang pag-uusapan nila ni Mr. Lopez.

Pero, sinabi ni Juday na hindi siya magmamakaawa na payagan sila ni Jolina na makapag-promote sa Dos. At kung saka-sakali naman daw na mapag-usapan ang isyu, doon lang siya magtatanong kay Mr. Lopez, kung bakit hindi sila puwedeng mag-promote ni Jolina sa Dos, samantalang sina Regine Velasquez at Piolo Pascual ay malayang nakapag-promote noon sa Dos at Siyete ng pelikula nila.

Siyanga pala, nilinaw ni Juday na ang meeting nila ni Mr. Lopez ay nai-set na bago pa man siya nakapagsalita sa presscon nila.

Say nga ni Juday, baka nga isang dinner lang ang maganap sa kanila. Pero kung sakali raw na mapag-usapan ang isyu, maglalakas-loob siyang sabihin ang nilalaman ng puso niya. "Second time na actually ito na magmi-meeting kami ni Mr. Lopez. Nag-lunch na kami before. Doon nga niya sinabi na hindi ako puwedeng mag-promote sa Dos.

"Nung time na ‘yon, wala pa ‘yung Regine-Piolo movie. Kaya nga ako nagulat at ang tanong ko ay bakit? Sa meeting namin noon, tinanong niya ako kung bakit ko tinanggap ang Ouija ng GMA Films.

"Sabi ko, wala naman po akong ginagawang movie sa Star Cinema. Sinabi ko rin na maganda ang project at hindi naman po nakalagay sa kontrata ko na hindi ako puwedeng gumawa ng movie sa labas," kuwento ni Juday.

Ipinagdidiinan ni Juday na wala siyang sama ng loob kay Mr. Lopez. Katunayan, isa raw si Mr. Lopez sa mga nakikinig sa kanyang mga hinaing.

"In fairness naman with Sir Gabby, magaan ang aura niya kapag nagkikita at nagkakausap kami. Hindi niya ipinaparamdam sa akin na siya ang may-ari ng company.

"Hindi ko puwedeng siraan ang mga taong nagpapasuweldo sa akin. Mababait naman sila sa akin, lalo na si Sir Gabby," kuwento pa ni Juday.

Tinutoo ni Judy Ann Santos ang sinabi sa presscon nila ni Jolina Magdangal for Ouija na magdu-double effort sila to promote the movie, na showing na sa July 25, at wala silang pipiliing show.

Bago ang presscon last Thursday, nag-taping muna sila ng Nuts Entertainment at lalabas din sa Walang Tulugan ni German Moreno.

Sa isyu ng pagpu-promote nila ni Jolina sa ABS-CBN, ayon kay Judy Ann, walang tumawag to clear things out.

Naghihintay lang sila at dahil walang tumawag, hindi na sila nag-effort. May balitang kakausapin sila ni Ryan Agoncillo ni Gabby Lopez, tungkol saan ang meeting?

“Naka-schedule ang meeting na ’yon bago pa lumabas ang isyung hindi kami makakapag-promote at bago pa ang presscon namin ni Jolina. Walang masama sa sinabi ko, nagtatanong lang ako. Irirespeto ko anuman ang sagot nila sa tanong ko, i-explain lang nang maayos.”

Hiningan din ng comment si Judy Ann sa nababalitang paglipat ni Angel Locsin sa Channel 2.

“Welcome siya sa ABS. Kung lilipat siya, wala akong makitang masama kung tapos na ang contract niya. Baka gusto niyang maka-experience magtrabaho sa new home studio at ibang kasama, basta you don’t burn bridges.”

The Philippine Star

“Angel is now a freelancer. She doesn’t have any existing (TV) contract with any network.”

That was the terse reaction of Becky Aguila, Angel Locsin’s manager, to Funfare’s banner story Monday (Will Angel’s wings be clipped?) upon her arrival from L.A. after the premiere in two US cities of Angel’s trilogy starrer Angels which Angel herself stars in and co-produced with Becky.

There are speculations that Angel might sign up with rival network ABS-CBN now that her contract with GMA has expired. Sources at ABS-CBN however said that the network hasn’t made any offer to Angel even if Becky reportedly gave an assurance that Angel is now a freelancer. But first, the sources added, ABS-CBN execs asked Becky to produce a “release paper” before any negotiation could start.

“There’s no need for any ‘release paper’ because Angel’s five-year contract with GMA expired last March 31,” said Becky who called Funfare three hours after she arrived on a PAL flight early Monday morning.

“I must add that I never said that Angel has an offer from ABS-CBN or any other company.”

Angel’s only existing contract, added Becky, is with Regal Films.

“It’s a movie contract. I still have to meet with Mother Lily before I can say anything about it, though,” said Becky. “I’m not about to reveal what our options are until after I discuss them with Angel’s father.”

Angel was 17 when she was tied down to an exclusive (TV) contract with GMA which made her a big star.

“It was a co-managerial contract,” explained Becky, “with GMA’s Artist Center and I co-managing Angel.”

Starting with the youth-oriented TV show Click, Angel appeared in a few more shows before she was launched as “solo” star in big-budgeted projects like Mulawin, Darna and Asian Treasures; and a few films GMA Films co-produced with Regal Films, including Mulawin The Movie, TXT, I Will Always Love You and The Promise.

Becky said Angel was offered the lead role in Marimar, the new GMA TV series inspired by the popular Mexican telenovela. “But,” explained Becky, “we have to turn it down because Angel was scheduled to take up a crash course in fashion in London. Besides, Angel wanted to have a rest; she has been working and working, and she badly needed a break.” The role landed on Marian Rivera’s lap.

Together with Becky and Angels star Jennylyn Mercado and company, Angel arrived L.A. on July 5 without, contrary to reports, rumored suitor Marvin Agustin (who’s also in the cast of Angels) who arrived the next day for the Angels screening and left on July 10. Only two screenings were held, one in San Francisco and the other in San Diego.

Asked if it’s true that the L.A. screening was scrapped due to poor ticket sales, Becky said, “It was due to poor marketing. But we told ticket-holders in L.A. that they could use their tickets for the San Diego screening.”

No, said Becky, Marvin is neither Angel’s boyfriend nor her suitor.

“And, no, Angel is not pregnant according to rumors. She has been rumored to be pregnant so many times that it doesn’t bother us anymore. Paano siya mabubuntis...sa hangin?”

But she did express appreciation and approval for lawyer Michael Templo, son of Mildred Ortega and Mitch Templo (retired general) and reported to be Angel’s “admirer,” whose office processed the papers (visa and all) Becky, Jennylyn and company. (Angel has a five-year US visa.)

Deadset on putting up a sportswear store before the year ends, Angel is enrolled at the London Fashion School for a two-week course. Classes will begin on July 23.

“This belies rumors that Angel didn’t pass an ‘entrance’ test and that she wasn’t given a visa by the British Embassy,” continued Becky. “Angel is a sports-lover. She’s a good swimmer; she’s involved in other kinds of sports. That’s why she’s putting up a sportswear store; nasa linya niya ang sports. When she comes back (third week of August), Angel will enroll in a Business Entrepreneurship course in the same correspondence school in Eastwood City where Joyce Jimenez studied.”

I haven't heard any news before that willie abused a woman(sa dami na ng naging babae nya)..I pity willie now coz he cant defend himself dahil bawal sya magsalita..exactly my point. i won't even believe if she would say he has another woman because it apparent that willie's now serious about everything - family, work, etc. so why would he want to throw that all away? i don't know about her intent but it is really fishy. i think she didn't marry for money because she came from a rich family but why in the world is she doing this? i remember she even wanted their house to be hers as she stated in the separation of properties in their annulment case along with at least P300,000 in monthly support for her and their kid.

ABS-CBN’s H1 profit P739M, nearly matches 2006 earnings


ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., the Philippines' largest broadcasting firm, said on Thursday its net income skyrocketed 77 percent year on year to P739 million in the first half, bolstered by the ongoing improvement in the company’s advertising business and the rising contribution of the subscription-based business.

Gross revenues increased by 12 percent year on year to P9.2 billion, driven by higher airtime revenues and sale of services.

Gross airtime revenues grew a robust 20 percent to P6.2 billion on the back of improving ratings and higher advertising volume.

While industry advertising TV minutes dipped 4 percent, ABS-CBN still managed to show some growth of 0.2 percent.

ABS-CBN also proved to be the nationwide leader in both audience share and ratings, enjoying an advantage of 10 and 4 percentage points, respectively, over rival GMA Network Inc.

Combined sale of services and sale of goods of subsidiaries likewise posted a healthy 11 percent increase to P2.7 billion in January-June, on the back of the favorable performance of ABS-CBN Global and ABS-CBN Films.

As of end-June, total subscriber base of ABS-CBN Global had risen 20 percent year on year, equivalent to 1.6 million viewers worldwide.

Total net expenses went up 5 percent year on year to P7.9 billion during the first half as the company continued to place a tight rein on costs.

Infairness, bagay sila..it means pinsan ito nina Bernard at Miko Palanca...kasi si Pilar (Bernard and Mico's mom) and Malu (Paul's mom) are sisters....for sure magaling din itong umarte. Ang Love Spell pala, na move sa 11:15AM slot starting July 29, 2007. So, hindi totoo na Hana Kimi ang ilalagay sa slot na ito kapalit ng Something About 1%.

About Wendy Valdez, sa totoo lang, guilty ako before pa siya lumabas ng bahay ni kuya, nilalait ko siya. As in, todo galit ko sa kanya. Pero mas na appreciate ko siya 'nung binu boo siya ng mga tao, pero composed pa din siya. At saka 'yung sinabi niya na kahit siya ang saktan, huwag lang family niya, nawala ang pagkainis ko sa kanya. from my POV din, magaling talaga humawak ng artista ang ABS (baka nga everyone in GMA desires to be in ABS, kaso walang offer so keber na lang, ams okay na me trabaho kaysa wala). nahahasa talaga ang acting ng mga talents, from my friend na nag workshop sa ABS, ang star magic daw kasi number 1 nilang tinitignan ang itsura dapat okay sa screen pero hindi ibig sabihin artista ka agad, kasi after makita na okay ka sa TV, acting ang talents mo naman ang aayusin they have to make sure na malayo ang mararating mo dahil pag hihirapan ka talaga ng ABS. pero the sad part of it eh, pag hindi ka na bankable. madali ka lang ilet go ng ABS. marami na tayong artista na over ang kasikatan dati na binitawan ng ABS nung hindi na ganun ka bankable, and guess what matatagpuan halos silang lahat sa GMA. for example Richard Gomez, who would have thought na ganun na lang xa ilalaglag ng ABS when they found out that there is this certain John Estrada na hindi lang pang-comedy. Patrick Garcia, left behind when they see how much people would love to see John Lloyd Cruz than this mestizo hearthrob. As well as dennis trillo, when they see they have Piolo, Jericho and Dietehr to there name ad bankable matinee idol. sa cas ni Jolina sabi nila hindi na daw talaga makasudo ng talent center ang dad nito, gusto daw kais nilang mag grow si jolina in acting ams daring, likw what they did to juday and Clau yung nag bebed scne na pero away ng kampo ni Jolina, yntil Jolina's camp decides to leave ABS. at ang mga lumipat from GMA to ABS, si Toni, who would think that she can be all she is in ABS, sa eat bulaga lang yan ah? pero bankable actress, endorser, siner, host na sya sa ABS. at si Anne, sa GMA puro maarteng kikay lang ang role nya, pero sa ABs she is this ugly imang, and the fighter celine. at kahit si Angelica nagawa nyang mag transform to this good contrabida...hsy i can go on and on...basta hayaan na si ANgel at tigilan ang pag build-up ke Wendy....

Ngayon naman, ililipat ito at magkakaroon na naman ng magulong PRIMETIMEBIDA. At isa pa, di bagay ang MARGARITA beore TV Patrol, mas maraming bata ang manonood o makakapanood.

im not a fan of wendy and i never was, but it's understandable as for why they would give wendy this show.

she's the one people love to hate. regardless of what has happened, it's obvious that people still watch her. aminin man natin o hindi. she was a big part of pbb's success (or downfall. depends how you view it). her guestings rated well too.

i'll definitely watch this teleserye out of curiosity. who knows, she might just win my heart as an actress. besides, it's not just about wendy. it's about the story & the totality of the show.

At isa pa, si Ms. Wendy Valdez parin ang nakahawak ng mataas na ratings ng DOND, kung wala talagang pakialam ang mga tao, eh sana di sila nanood. At kung tungkol ito sa pera (raffle) kung bakit may nanood, bat ngayon di na gaanung umabot ng 30's sa Mega.

Sino nga kaya yung Big Star na tinutukoy dito? Ang dami kase big stars ng ABS kaya ang hirap hulaan..:)

Judy Ann Santos... siempre matagal na nating alam na kapuso si alfie lorenzo... tpos diba may rift pa dahil ni nakapromote si judy ann sa abs para sa movie nya... feeling ko cia ung lilipat...

Pero baka chismis lang to...kase matagal pa ata ung contract ni juday sa abs,... saka parang ung GMA pa lang ung gumagawa ng issue na nahurt si juday dahil di cia pinayagan magpromote ng movie, parang gma lang ung nagpapalaki ng issue...

unlike Angel's case na once hindi na cia nagrenew ng contract sa GMA... marami na agad na kumalat sa tabloids na 'ingrata','walang utang na loob' issue si angel eh hindi pa naman sure na lilipat cia noon... parang pinapatay na rin ng gma si angel bago pa man ito pakinabangan ng iba... very Kapuso strategy diba..

i get your point! i'm happy na rin coz nilipat nila ang NBAD sa magandang oras. they deserve a better schedule coz the sineserye is really good! it's the best among their four presentations (palimos na pag-ibig, hiram na mukha, may minamahal, natutulog ba ang diyos)
