Abalos: Pacquiao fight TV ads, docus banned

Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. of the Commission on Elections said Thursday that endorsements, documentaries and biography specials that have no connection with boxing idol Manny Pacquiao's fight with Mexican Jorge Solis this weekend are prohibited from being aired on television.

Abalos said that Pacquiao, scheduled to fight the undefeated Mexican at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday (Sunday in Manila), has already gained media exposure for his upcoming bout.

The COMELEC en bacn has yet to issue a ruling following the petition filed by lawyer Sixto Brillantes with regard to Pacquiao's TV commercials and documentaries.

The petition said it would be advantageous for Pacquiao if he will still have product endorsements while at the same time running a campaign for congressman in South Cotabato's first district. The boxer is running against incumbent Rep. Darlene Antonino-Custodio in the May 14 polls.

Abalos said that Pacquiao's pre-fight ad for a beer company is prohibited. The ad has Pacquiao and Mexican boxer Erik Morales endorsing a popular beer brand.

Abalos, however, said news reports about Pacquiao's practice fights and the bout itself is not covered by the ban. He also suggested that TV networks should block broadcast feeds in areas where Pacquiao is campaigning.

The COMELEC chief said that should the parties involved insist on airing or publishing prohibited Pacquiao materials, the commission would run after the TV networks. “Di tirahin natin ang [TV] studios [We'll run after the TV studios),” he said

GMA 7, the station that bagged the contract to air free TV rights for Pacquiao's fight, declined to comment on the COMELEC's decision.

It was AWESOME! The fight scenes are great, to think there were no stunt doubles :) aswell as its effects. the almost 2 year prep paid off. hopefully it will do well in the ratings game.

i think the idea of abs is kahit matagal the series are given to a pleasant viewing timeslot (well for them) pangit din naman na good series are beng put in unpleasant timeslot. weekends sereis are gven one hour at 4 days naman sa primetime. kaysa ilagay an mga ito sa patay na oras like 3pm o 5pm......

Allow me to congratulate the makers of ROUNIN... it is one series that you'll be very proud off.. the technology used and the effects plus performances was really different... The production was terrific..it is a waste if others would not able such series that is so well crafted as if I am watching it.. I am watching a movie...I cannot really explain..I was so overjoyed watching this series.. it is an epic with great emotions... I think if we would only better the production,, we can relaly have a big fight internationally... why not start with how ROUNIN was conceptualized.... and able produced

i always check kasi kung ano na nagiging movement sa pag acquire ng mga drama alam niyo naman pag wikipedia kung sino sino na lang pwede mag edit pero siguro naman malapit sa management ng mga station or avid followers ang nagproprovide ng info.

OCTOBER 2006, AGB Nielsen Media Research launched its "nationwide urban television audience measurement," or NUTAM.


AGB Nielsen wants NUTAM to be dubbed as 'better' and 'more accurate' survey to determine the standing of Philippine television and radio networks and the audience shares of TV programs in urban areas nationwide.

Dito na raw dapat magbago ang gabay, kung hindi 'panuntunan' matatawag, ng mga advertiser sa paglalagak ng kanilang advertisement spots sa isang network.

The NUTAM survey is wider in scope than the "Mega Manila" study, which covers only Metro Manila and outlying areas.

The first NUTAM survey showed ABS-CBN in the lead with 43% while GMA had 35%

Kabaligtaran ito sa Mega Manila study kung saan GMA ang nangunguna sa audience share in the last quarter of 2006, with 41% kontra sa 35% ng ABS-CBN.

Panalo rin ang ABS sa ikalawang NUTAM survey na inilabas nitong first quarter ng 2007.

Recently, ABS-CBN announced its plan for 5% to 7% advertising hike...with high hope that advertisers would now probably consider the NUTAM survey than Mega Manila study alone.

Three years already na di nagtataas ng advertising slot ang kapamilya... its reasonable na sigurong gawin.

GMA, on the other hand, mula nang maging number 1 ay nagmahal na ng singil taun-taon.

Kapuso network, likewise, still eyeing for another increase this year, based on newspaper reports.

In the business circuit, kailangan pa raw gapangin nang husto ang popularidad ng NUTAM survey para makumbinsi ang mga advertiser na ito ang gamitin na nilang basehan.

Studies confirm ABS-CBN’s nationwide leadership

The March 4 to 31, 2007 nationwide TV ratings data from AGB-NMR National Urban TV Audience Measurement (NUTAM) declared that ABS-CBN is the leading TV station nationwide. Registering an overall share of 47% vs. competition’s 35%, ABS-CBN is very comfortably ahead of GMA-7 by 12 rating points.

The NUTAM confirmed that seventeen (17) programs in the top twenty (20) ranking of programs being watched in the country are from ABS-CBN, demonstrating the network's superiority in various program categories. The evening primetime is dominated by "Sana Maulit Muli" (36.1%), "Maging Sino Ka Man" (33.87%) and "Flordeluna." (29.7), while the early evening newscast is led by "TV Patrol World" (31.7%). The leader in the true story/drama anthology genre is "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (25.3%), while the evening reality class is ruled by "Pinoy Big Brother Season 2" (24 %) and the late night news is controlled by "Bandila" (8.1%)

Other category leaders are: "Komiks" (29.9%), fantasy series; "John En Shirley" (26.9%) and "Goin’ Bulilit"(25.6%), Comedy; "Sharon" (23.1%), talk show; "XXX Exklusibong," "Explosibong Expose" (28.8%) and "Rated K Handa Na Ba Kayo?" (28.2%), current affairs. For weekday daytime, "Wowowee" (27.3%) leads the noontime/game/variety; "Home Boy" (14%), talk. The weekend daytime has Love Spell (18.2%) leading in the fantasy series, "ASAP 07" (20.3%) in musical variety and "The Buzz" (17.4%) in show business talk.

On the other hand, the Neilsen Media Research Nationwide Media Landscape Study in November 2006, confirmed ABS-CBN’s national leadership with 91% nationwide regularly watching ABS-CBN. In terms of preference, the study corroborates that the station is the favorite station nationwide at 62%. As a primary source of information ABS-CBN is the most sought after nationally (77%), and its News and Current Affairs group as the most trusted (66%) as well.

The Nielsen TV Diary (March 2007) and PSRC’s Day After Recall (4th quarter, 2006) also supported ABS-CBN’s national leadership claim as the studies disclosed that ABS-CBN leads the way in channel shares across all 13 non-metered regional TV areas nationwide. The various nationwide studies showed that ABS-CBN has indeed corned audience viewership in the country.

"The marked leadership has prompted ABS-CBN to increase advertising rates by 15%," ABS-CBN CFO Mike Navarette said. ‘The 5 to 7% figure quoted in an earlier interview of me actually referred to an estimate of the 2007 impact of the price adjustment to the company’s total revenues, inclusive of non-airtime revenues," Navarette explained, and quickly extended apology on behalf of the network for the mistaken information published in media.

There has been a very disturbing slant lately with the other network in terms of "fair and balanced" coverage of news reportage.

This is the biggest reason why I returned my loyalty to the Kapamilya network. But then again, it doesn't mean I will blindly accept anything that the Lopezes has to offer us.

kung marunong tayong umintindi at mag-analyze ng balita/impormasyon sa mga naka-post sa baba.... sinasabi rin doon na nagkamali ng judgment ang abs fans sa kapuso network.

nanggagalaiti kayo sa gma at sa survey na ginagamit nila gayung ang NUTAM survey ay bagong launched pa lang. twice pa lang ang report na nailalabas.

ibig sabihin, mega manila studies talaga ang reference ng gma at abs and even ng mga advertisers noon pa man.

ngayon lang nabago at tatangkaing mapalitan nang tuluyan.

and, luckily, abs leads based on that survey.

siguro just don't forget kung nasaan ang bulk ng viewers. Yes, NUTAM is wider than scope pero ang Manila and Luzon ay densely populated. We should consider siguro kung ilan ang may TV at total viewers ng major provinces. Here in Manila, hardly you will see a home without a TV set. Just my two cents worth...

please cite an example...can we differentiate a certain coverage ng ABS sa GMA?

ako as a media practitioner, nasu-surf ko ang mga newscast.... mas matapang kong masasabi na mas maraming violations ang abs pagdating sa 'far-and-balanced' coverage.

during pacman arrival last week,
may swapangang nangyari sa manila hotel...thanks to bernadette sembrano.

entrada pa lang, akbay na ni bernadette si pacman...panay salita na...sunud-sunod at ang kamay na pinanghahawak sa mic ay iginigitgit kay jay taruc para di makaporma ang mic nito.

at napanood ko pa ito sa mup hehe.

isa pa nang matapos si bernadette kay pacman, lumingon na ito kay bernabe concepcion for interview din kaso yung cameraman nila ay ayaw pa ring iframe closeup kina bernadette at bernabe. tatlo pa rin sila with pacman.

kaso si pacman, iniinterview na rin ng gma and other media, naku-halos masira remote control ng tv namin sa kakatingin sa mup at unang hirit [gma]!

pagbalik namin sa mup, walang kaabug-abog sumingit si bernadette..."excuse me po" aniya... sabay lagay ng parang lapel o earphone sa tenga ni pacman at hila sa boksingero.

sa bigla namin, umusisa ulit kami sa coverage ng unang hirit....hala, gumegewang na camerashot....and there you go...commercial break!

kahapon lang ay may nakausap ako na taga-print at napag-usapan tungkol dito... balitang nag-sorry si bernadette sa ilang taga-media na nasa manila hotel...para saan kaya... siguro nga raw dahil sa pagsaswapang...

pero di raw nag-sorry si bernadette sa taga-gma.

isa pa, remember yung batang binaril ng isang tanod sa bulacan habang nasa tuktok ng powerline?

sa ethics among journalist, bawal ipakita ang mukha ng menor-de-edad na biktima ng anumang krimen.

but abs didn't do that. via tv patrol world....zoom in pa nga ang shot e....mula sa paglakad-lakad ng bata sa powerline hanggang sa siya'y mabaril at mahulog...

samantalang sa 24oras, naka-blurred... madalas talagang gawin iyon ng 24oras...

malinaw naman... abs ang pwedeng umangkin bilang primary source ng breaking news kasi more expanded ang operation nito sa buong bansa compared sa gma. mas mabilis silang nakakakuha ng breaking news from remote areas.






There has been a very disturbing slant lately with the other network in terms of "fair and balanced" coverage of news reportage.

This is the biggest reason why I returned my loyalty to the Kapamilya network. But then again, it doesn't mean I will blindly accept anything that the Lopezes has to offer us.

In fairness to ABS-CBN's treatment of the news lately, they are once again my primary source for breaking news.

Saka infairness, naging fair ang ABS about the commercials,... kung ano ang total runtime ng Miss Universe, which is 2 hours, natapos din ng 2 hours... sa RPN 9 before pinapahaba ng 5 hours ung Missuniverse sa sobrang dami ng commercials...

ABS-CBN to appeal MTRCB order to suspend 'Wowowee'

The number one noontime variety and game show in the Philippines "Wowowee" will continue to air pending an appeal on a Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) decision to suspend the show for three consecutive days.

Bong Osorio, ABS-CBN’s head for Corporate Communications confirmed that they had already received the letter of suspension from MTRCB but said that the show will continue to air while they are making an appeal.

"Yes Wowowee has received the letter from MTRCB, and the network is making an appeal. And as we go through the appeal process, Wowowee will continue to air," Osorio said.

MTRCB said that they found that the show violated Presidential Decree 1986 and its supplementing rules and regulation. This after the breast of young star Eda Nolan was accidentally exposed in a dance number.

The suspension was approved and signed by board members Mark Castrodes, Edmund Sicam, and Paulino Cases, chairman of investigating committee.

however, the way i see it, MTRCB did the right thing.
because:
hindi lang isa or dalawang beses nagkaroon ng ganitong klaseng accidents.
think about it, maaaring mangyari nang mangyari ito sa future episodes ng kahit anong live-broadcasted shows at laging magagamit na excuse na lang na "aksidente kasi at LIVE ito."
what if sadyain na lang ang mga "wardrobe malfunction"?
precisely. kaya mabuti na rin may suspension para mas mag iingat sila especially the talents. kawawa naman silang mga biktima ng aksidente/wardrobe malfunction.

nakakalungkot isipin, tanghaling tapat pa pinapalabas sa national tv ang mga ganitong outfits ng dancers. pagiling-giling pa sila and all. may tamang oras naman tulad ng late nite.

poor children ages 5 and below ask for alms on streets in paranaque and guess what they do- they dance like agogo dancers on the streets. tumatapat pa sila sa headlights ng sasakyan. yan ang nakakadiri. nagiging bad influence in a way ang ganitong noontime shows if they continue to allow skimpy clothing for the dancers. im not saying that noontime shows are bad per se, im just saying they should be more careful with the kind of message they're trying to relate to the audience in some segments of their shows.

First of all, it's offensive and very insulting to all kapamilya forumers when somebody posted here in ABS thread an add or promo encouraging us to watch the other channel's show.That's I think is kabastusan and a violation..so they should have deleted it earlier so that we should'nt have read it and reacted to it..but I believe the reactions written here on sunday have no offensive,insulting,profane languages..deletion of those posts is not an issue anymore...just pls dont let other forumers insult a thread in anyway(nagkamali or sinadya)..
And can I also make a suggestion?-for every deletion you make, can you post a note that you deleted some posts and put the reason why so that we forumers will not be so surprised :D ..if its not so much trouble for you lang naman and you are not busy:)

Yes I agree we all have life outside tsinoy..I just thought that you mods have your turns in making "bantay"..I mean akala ko, at least one mod is connected at all times to receive alerts but maybe I was wrong..
Anyway,the "said post" was posted I think around 3-4am on sunday..I visited tsinoy if im not mistaken around 1pm and still I read that post...plenty of time has passed right...
Anyway, its not a big deal anymore..now we know that you really monitor and delete messages(this is my first time kase encountering this)..I want to thank you too for clarifying that our posts were deleted not because we violated some grave violations but because we were discussing a deleted post after you/other mod deleted the "offensive" post in our thread.

By the way, I noticed that you are the only mod who interacts with other forumers or I am mistaken again?
