Mas mataas ag share ng ABS over GMA sa class AB citizens ,
samantalang panalo naman ang GMA over ABS sa class C2at DE

Kung titingnan, masasabing mataas ang share ng Class DE sa surveyed
population, kung saan nakuha ng GMA ang pinakamataas na share nito.

Masasabi rin na tanging Class DE masasabing TALO ang ABS over GMA.
Na kung saan nakuha ng GMA ang dominansya nito sa MEGA MANILA

Una na ring naiulat na bahagyang mas mataas ang ratings ng mga shows
ng ABS sa Metro Manila kung ikukumpara sa kabuuang Mega Manila.

Base na rin sa mga impormasyon, masasabing panalo o bahagyang panalo
ang mga KAPAMILYA sa METRO MANILA lalo na sa mga MAS matataas na uri
na lipunan.(Class ABC), samantalang panalo ang GMA sa SUBURBS at sa
karamihan ng mga MAHIHIRAP na viewers ng mega manila.

Masasagot nito kung bakit mas binibigyang pansin ng mga ADVERTISERS
ang KAPAMILYA stars. Kung titingnan, mas pinapaboran nila si Kris,

Bakit din mas kumikita ang mga pelikula ng Star Cinema kung

ABS-CBN bags major CMMA awards


ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. on Friday bagged major awards in the 28th Catholic Mass Media Awards in Makati City, TV Patrol World reported.

The Kapamilya Network bagged the best news magazine award for Korina Sanchez’s "Rated K," best special event coverage for "Edsa 1986: Mga Himig ng Himagsikan," best sports show for "Sports Unlimited," and best talk show for Studio 23’s "Y Speak."

"Nagmamahal, Kapamilya" was given special citation under the best public service program category.

Comedy show "Quizon Avenue" was named best comedy program while best drama series went to "Maging Akin Muli." Best adult educational or cultural program went to "Kunin mo, O Diyos."

Radio DZMM also won several awards including best sports program for Freddie Webb’s "Sports Talk," best business news or feature for DZMM’s "Ang Radyo Negosyo," best educational program for "Bago Yan Ah!" and best news program for DYAB Cebu Radyo Patrol Balita.

President Arroyo and Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales gave the prizes during the awards night.

Mrs. Arroyo also took advantage of the occasion to condemn the unabated killings of journalists in the country.

She also boasted about the country's economic gains but added that much needs to be done to sustain them. "I hope to leave office in 2010 with a nation well on its way to first world status and I hope that mass media will do its part by being free but equally responsible," she said.

Letter from AGB Nielsen Media Research

November 3, 2006

To our valued partners in the industry:

In a letter dated 16 October 2006 sent to advertisers and media agencies, GMA Marketing & Productions President & COO Mr. Manuel P. Quiogue expressed GMA’s “critical concerns” about our television ratings data.

The focus of GMA’s “critical concerns” was the big difference in the viewing of certain GMA programs between cable and non-cable viewers and between Sky Cable/Home Cable subscribers and other cable companies’ subscribers.

Time and again, we have explained to GMA what we think are the possible causes of the aforesaid difference in viewership. As early as 2003, we gave our response to the Television Research Council which managed the study for the industry and gave its own response to GMA.

We even consulted GMA in 2005, along with other partners in the industry, when we set up a new audience measurement panel for Mega Manila following the merger with Nielsen Media Research. Significantly, even after 100% of all cable panels were replaced, the data differences for cable viewing remained approximately the same.

Understandably, there will be occasions when not everyone will be pleased with our TV audience measurement results; some will be very disappointed. But on other occasions our broadcaster clients can be very happy with the ratings data. Interestingly, those same broadcasters never question the results when their programs perform well.

We stand by the integrity of our data. AGB Nielsen Media Research abides by the Global Guidelines in TV Audience Measurement (GGTAM) endorsed by expert practitioners in television audience measurement worldwide. Our reputation as the world leader in TAM has been built on a commitment to independence, reliability and transparency. We will not change our data to assuage the concerns or suit the needs of any client.

Mr. Quiogue’s letter stated there was “cause for alarm” and referred to a text message allegedly sent by an ABS-CBN sales executive reporting, even before we released our Oct. 4 data, that ABS-CBN’s programs beat those of GMA’s. In his letter, Mr. Quiogue claimed:

“Interestingly, when the ratings for Wednesday were released two days later
we were surprised to see that the ratings cited by the ABS-CBN sales executive were substantially correct.”

As subscribers to the same data, you can validate for yourselves GMA’s claim. I reiterate and confirm what I said in my email reply to Mr. Quiogue, and I quote: “ABS-CBN’s claim that they have the October 4 data is absolutely false as we haven’t released any data yet and have only started to produce it today…”

As you may know, we launched the AGB Nielsen Media Research NUTAM service on 26 October 2006—the same day GMA’s letter (dated 16 October 2006) was reportedly sent to advertisers and media agencies.

The NUTAM (National Urban TV Audience Measurement) service provides the industry with an expanded panel across 90% of the national urban regions of the Philippines, which effectively gives its users a clear picture of viewing outside Metro Manila. This changes the television landscape and the manner in which advertisers will allocate their TV investments to achieve cost efficiency and maximize reach. With this larger geographical measurement
coverage, a greater level of accountability and confidence in television as a primary advertising medium is achieved.

The NUTAM service is a testament to our steadfast commitment to deliver an improved television audience measurement service. It ensures that the advertising industry in the Philippines benefits from the world’s best practice in TAM research.

In the face of a rambunctious competitor over the last few years, we have opted to keep our silence, choosing instead to focus on improving our content and enhancing our service to our clients. We believe that you, our valued clients, have been witness to the fruits of our efforts in improving our hold over our audience and bringing delight to you through our efforts to give client-oriented servicing.images/icons/icon14.gif

However, given this letter that directly questions our company’s integrity we believe that it is time for us to respond.;)

On The Issue of Cable vs. Non-Cable Ratings

Our competitor has raised the issue of the difference between cable and non-cable ratings saying they find it difficult to believe that there would be such a big difference in the viewing of programs in households from these two groups.

Their lack of understanding comes from their stubborn assumption that there are no differences in the situation of viewers whether they come from cable or non-cable homes. :p

There are many demographic and other variables that make the situation of viewers from cable different from those of non-cable homes. We would also like to add, that similarly, there are differences in the situation of viewers from Metro Manila and the Suburbs.

One of the significant differences that define cable or non-cable and Metro Manila or Suburbs viewers has to do with the low-band frequency of ABS-CBN. The signal of ABS-CBN goes through Channel 2, this is the lowest among low- band channels. All Channels from 2 to 6, because of their low-band frequency are vulnerable to noise such as those generated by use of electricity and telecommunications activity. Noise generated does not generally interfere as much with the reception in areas in Metro Manila which are closer to our transmission tower, but they interfere with reception (making it snowy or distorted) in areas further away such as the suburbs. With the increased use of electricity and telecommunication equipment in the past few years, the noise generated has become significant. Thus you will note that ABS-CBN performs significantly better in Metro Manila than in the Suburbs.

Even in Metro Manila given its size, the reception of Channel 2 is not completely immune to noise, especially houses located in the fringes (north and south). However, among cable homes, the connection through cable, takes away the vulnerability of ABS-CBN’s reception from noise, especially in instances when ABS-CBN is assigned to a channel 8 (in Destiny, ABS-CBN is still assigned to a low-band channel 6). Thus, among cable homes, the playing field is level – ABS-CBN’s reception is equal to that of any high-band channel. With a level playing field – the only variable now becomes quality of content.

In Metro Manila where the handicap of a low-band channel is not as great as the suburbs, you can see our performing significantly better than in the suburbs. Among Cable homes where the playing field is level – you see the proof of our superior content.

We have always known that given our single mindedness in improving our content, our performance will shine on a level playing field. We see this also in Iloilo City. For many years in the past, we have lost to competition in Iloilo because the signal reaching Iloilo came from Bacolod, making it weak and putting us at a disadvantage in terms of reception quality. However, once we put up our transmitter in Iloilo in the 4th quarter of 2004, we quickly dominated the area.

What ABS-CBN is Doing About Issue of Reception

The issue on ABS-CBN reception is limited to areas that are serviced by our Metro Manila transmission tower. These are basically fringes of Metro Manila and the suburbs. However, outside these areas where we have relay stations and local transmission towers, we perform very well.

We have both short term and long term plans to address the issue of reception in the fringes of Metro Manila and the Suburbs. We have done communication campaigns for correct antennas. You will have noted our plugs for “Baron” antennas. These types of antennas address the noise issue and give us level playing field. We have done antenna drives (even given free antennas) in some areas. However, the long term solution to our reception issue will come from our introduction of Digital TV. We will be introducing Digital TV starting next year. Under this platform, the issue of reception will become moot.

On ABS-CBN Having Prior Knowledge of Ratings

Our competitor alludes to a text message sent out by one of our Sales Executives to a few friends that seemed to indicate that we have prior knowledge of ratings.

The ABS-CBN executive did NOT have prior knowledge of the overnight ratings for October 4. The executive sent an informal (not an ABS-CBN release) text to a few agency friends on Thursday (Oct. 5). Inadvertently thinking that both Tuesday and Wednesday ratings were out, she referred to the data on hand as ratings for Tuesday and Wednesday. For the record, the only data available on Thursday was data from October 3 (Tuesday). The Wednesday and Thursday numbers came out on Friday (Oct. 6).

There was no advance information. No mole unfairly leaking ratings results to us. The Sales Executive has already apologized profusely for her mistake, which inadvertently seems to have led to such an irrational response.

Issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research

Our competitor raises the question of over sampling of homes defined by certain demographic variables including cable homes. The AGB-Nielsen Media Research panel over samples the AB and C homes in order to allow advertisers targeting the upper and middle class ability to plan their media campaigns adequately. Because of over sampling for the upper and middle class, there is in effect over sampling of cable homes since the incidence of cable subscription is higher among these classes.

Over sampling based on some key demographic variables, as long as there is proper downweighting upon data processing to correct it, is an acceptable statistical practice. The core sampling design that went into the establishment of this panel was approved by the industry’s Television Research Council (TVRC).

We too have our issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research. But when we have issues, we discuss these with them and show them solid analysis to support our claims. Almost a year ago, we approached AGB with proof, based on a credible third party research, that their Cebu panel was no longer showing results that represent the truth. They made their own independent check and survey. Upon establishing that not so ideal actions from another party resulted to their panels no longer representing reality, they closed down their provincial panels. They have since put up a new panel in Cebu, and among those of you who have seen the results from their new panel in Cebu, you will see proof that ABS-CBN has never lost its dominance in Cebu.

We have other issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research and we continue to discuss these with them. We do not believe though that a hysterical response will better resolve issues than analytical discussions.

We know that not all our issues with AGB-Nielsen Media Research might be resolved, and we have in fact been the first to sign up with another third party for national TV ratings. If we had a mole in AGB, we would not have initiated the entry of another TV ratings provider.

ABS-CBN Focused on Improving Content and Better Service

Over the last few years, we have listened to our audience more, tried to understand them better, and improved our content.

In Metro Manila, where our reception handicap is not substantial, you will see the great strides we have made given the response of our audience. We lead in the rest of the Philippines.

We have also gone back to solid/fundamental programming – providing our audience with programs that make them feel, look inside themselves, think about their values and celebrate their humanity. You will see this in the breadth of our offering which is aligned with our mission to Serve the Filipinos and not pander to their escapist tendencies.

Look at what we have achieved. We are competitive among the highly sought after female 20+ who affirm themselves and their values with such powerful offerings like Bituing Walang Ningning, Sa Piling Mo, Maging Sino Ka Man and MMK. I'm not in any way connected to ABS. Yung tita ko lang. Secret kung sino. But I'm watching ABS, kasi eto na yung nakasanayan ko e. I don't mind being the only viewer of this station. so long as i'm contented with what they doing, dito ako. GMA is a good station too. Kaso, umabot ba sa level na magsiraan tayo? This is not a perfect world anyway. But we can make it a nice place it live in and thrive to. Opinions are welcome, but do not be disruptive. Two people from opposing views will always clash especially if they are invoking certain beliefs. Pero sana wag tayong maging radical, gaya ng ginagawa mo. We can do constructive criticisms, pero sana lets still comply with our ethical standards and good behavior.

Oh. Simpleng english lang yan ah. Pero sana we all got the point. Criticism is not bad, but do it for the purpose of improving our own programs, or should I say our favorite tv station's different programs and not just to be a critic with no justifiable reasons, only just to irritate and be PAIN IN THE *** of others.

"Ano?!" TV host-actress Toni Gonzaga theatrically exclaims upon hearing the question whether she will take over Kris Aquino's shows.

Rumors have it that the 22-year-old star will handle Kris Aquino's two daily shows GAME K N B? and Kapamilya Deal or No Deal once Kris goes on maternity leave. Kris is due to give birth in May 2007.

"Hindi ko alam," Toni answers candidly. "Hintayin ko na lang kung may magsabi sa kin na may authority pero lagi sinasabi sa kin [yan]. There's been rumors about that pero I don't wanna ano [assume that it's true]."

The young star is already being dubbed as 'the next Kris Aquino.'

"Siyempre you feel flattered, overwhelmed with the compliment," she says. "Pero at the same time, you don't want to ponder on that. That's something na I don't want to embrace. It's something I can say I'm very grateful to have those comments from people pero I'd rather concentrate on improving myself, my craft, and what I do."

If she does get the job: "Siyempre you would be honored and flattered. Like anyone would say, no one can ever take the place of anyone in that position. Regine Velasquez will always be Regine Velasquez. No one can take her place. Kris Aquino will always be Kris Aquino, and no one can take her place."

"You can always make a name for yourself," she adds. "And don't try to take someone else's throne. Ako yun lagi ang iniisip ko e. You can just make a name, an image, [and] a status of your own."

Letter from AGB Nielsen Media Research

November 3, 2006

To our valued partners in the industry:

In a letter dated 16 October 2006 sent to advertisers and media agencies, GMA Marketing & Productions President & COO Mr. Manuel P. Quiogue expressed GMA’s “critical concerns” about our television ratings data.

The focus of GMA’s “critical concerns” was the big difference in the viewing of certain GMA programs between cable and non-cable viewers and between Sky Cable/Home Cable subscribers and other cable companies’ subscribers.

Time and again, we have explained to GMA what we think are the possible causes of the aforesaid difference in viewership. As early as 2003, we gave our response to the Television Research Council which managed the study for the industry and gave its own response to GMA.

We even consulted GMA in 2005, along with other partners in the industry, when we set up a new audience measurement panel for Mega Manila following the merger with Nielsen Media Research. Significantly, even after 100% of all cable panels were replaced, the data differences for cable viewing remained approximately the same.

Understandably, there will be occasions when not everyone will be pleased with our TV audience measurement results; some will be very disappointed. But on other occasions our broadcaster clients can be very happy with the ratings data. Interestingly, those same broadcasters never question the results when their programs perform well.

We stand by the integrity of our data. AGB Nielsen Media Research abides by the Global Guidelines in TV Audience Measurement (GGTAM) endorsed by expert practitioners in television audience measurement worldwide. Our reputation as the world leader in TAM has been built on a commitment to independence, reliability and transparency. We will not change our data to assuage the concerns or suit the needs of any client.

Mr. Quiogue’s letter stated there was “cause for alarm” and referred to a text message allegedly sent by an ABS-CBN sales executive reporting, even before we released our Oct. 4 data, that ABS-CBN’s programs beat those of GMA’s. In his letter, Mr. Quiogue claimed:

“Interestingly, when the ratings for Wednesday were released two days later
we were surprised to see that the ratings cited by the ABS-CBN sales executive were substantially correct.”

As subscribers to the same data, you can validate for yourselves GMA’s claim. I reiterate and confirm what I said in my email reply to Mr. Quiogue, and I quote: “ABS-CBN’s claim that they have the October 4 data is absolutely false as we haven’t released any data yet and have only started to produce it today…”

As you may know, we launched the AGB Nielsen Media Research NUTAM service on 26 October 2006—the same day GMA’s letter (dated 16 October 2006) was reportedly sent to advertisers and media agencies.

The NUTAM (National Urban TV Audience Measurement) service provides the industry with an expanded panel across 90% of the national urban regions of the Philippines, which effectively gives its users a clear picture of viewing outside Metro Manila. kris is due to deliver her baby in june 2007.we heard she also doesnt want any pinchhitter on her shows,thats why she has agreed to tape several advance episodes in preparation for her maternity leave.

I've read the letter reply of ABS-CBN and AGB-NMR regarding GMA 7's accusation about the cable TV ratings. Like what I have posted before, most Kapamilya households subscribed to cable TV because of poor reception they could get without cable. It's not because ABS-CBN surveyed and offered goodies to cable subscribers just to watch the ABS-CBN channel.

alam ko pinakaunang nag appear sa station id si bentong na nakasakay sa jeep sa tabi ng driver and si derek naman kasama sa mga pasahero. see my post #10840. :) wala silang screencaps kasi di sila nacapture sa video. :D

Sori mga kapamilya last na 'to! Henyo ka ng telebisyon? Kaninong telebisyon?, because it seems isa ka sa mga nalaglag sa poder ng ABS at gusto mo mang maghabol wala ka ng magawa kaya dito mo ibinubunton ang sakit ng utak mo, ganun!! ABS-CBN CLAIM DOUBTED

ABS-CBN is on a festive mood for the last few days and all fingers point to the recently released Television Audience Measurement (TAM) survey by AGB Nielsen where ABS-CBN reportedly got the better of its closest competitor GMA Network.

TAM survey results, which cover 90% of the total urban population in the country, show ABS-CBN leading GMA in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. GMA, on the other hand, is ahead of ABS-CBN in Luzon .

But a much closer look at the figures reveals another side to the story, which is a far cry to that of ABS-CBN claiming nationwide ratings supremacy.

Apparently, 76% of the entire viewing population is located in Luzon where GMA is still the undisputed leading station, while Visayas accounts for only 14% and Mindanao a measly 10%.

In the Metro cities alone, the TAM survey shows ABS-CBN leading GMA in Metro Cebu, Iloilo, and Metro Davao, while GMA maintains its dominance only in Metro Manila. Interestingly, Metro Manila accounts for 80% of the total TV homes and the remaining 20% is still divided between Metro Cebu, Iloilo and Metro Davao.

With these data, an industry observer says there seems to be no basis to ABS-CBN’s claim that they are the leading network in the country since they only lead in areas where the TV population is undoubtedly smaller than that of GMA Network.

The local government of Pasay City cut short a concert organized by an ABS-CBN subsidiary over the weekend to prevent a repeat of the ULTRA stampede in February.

"ABS-CBN together with the Pasay City Government decided to cut short the MYX MO! 2006 held last Saturday, November 11 at the CCP Open Grounds," network vice-president for corporate affairs Maloli Espinosa said Monday.

"As the crowd continued to escalate, preventive measures were taken to ensure the security and safety of the public and the guest artists," she added.

The concert organized by MYX music channel was a free event held to thank fans for their support. The first concert took place last year.

Thousands of fans went to the CCP Open Grounds beginning Saturday afternoon for a pre-show program before the main event that was supposed to begin at 7 p.m. According to posters, the concert was to last until 1 a.m. Sunday.

The ULTRA stampede on February 4 left 71 people dead and hundreds of others injured during the first anniversary presentation of the noontime show "Wowowee."

ABS-CBN CLAIM DOUBTED

ABS-CBN is on a festive mood for the last few days and all fingers point to the recently released Television Audience Measurement (TAM) survey by AGB Nielsen where ABS-CBN reportedly got the better of its closest competitor GMA Network.

TAM survey results, which cover 90% of the total urban population in the country, show ABS-CBN leading GMA in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. GMA, on the other hand, is ahead of ABS-CBN in Luzon .

But a much closer look at the figures reveals another side to the story, which is a far cry to that of ABS-CBN claiming nationwide ratings supremacy.

Apparently, 76% of the entire viewing population is located in Luzon where GMA is still the undisputed leading station, while Visayas accounts for only 14% and Mindanao a measly 10%.

In the Metro cities alone, the TAM survey shows ABS-CBN leading GMA in Metro Cebu, Iloilo, and Metro Davao, while GMA maintains its dominance only in Metro Manila. Interestingly, Metro Manila accounts for 80% of the total TV homes and the remaining 20% is still divided between Metro Cebu, Iloilo and Metro Davao.

With these data, an industry observer says there seems to be no basis to ABS-CBN’s claim that they are the leading network in the country since they only lead in areas where the TV population is undoubtedly smaller than that of GMA Network.

The increase was attributed to the continuous improvement in the core business.

Gross revenue was up two percent to P12.9 billion, driven by stable airtime revenue and license fees from Direct TV.

Despite the general slowdown in the industry, parent airtime revenue remained stable at over P7 billion due to revenue contribution from product intrusion and placements.

Some P825 million in license fees from migration of direct-to-home satellite subscribers in North America to Direct TV platforms also boosted revenue.

ABS-CBN is the parent firm of ANC and ABS-CBN Interactive.

Jerry Yan to visit Filipino sponsored children
as Asia's World Vision child sponsorship ambassador

Taiwanese superstar Jerry Yan, popularly known as Dao Ming Si of the phenomenal hit TV series Meteor Garden and F4 fame, will be visiting the Philippines early December to promote World Vision's Child Sponsorship program.

Jerry has been appointed as the first Asia Regional Sponsorship Ambassador of World Vision.

World Vision-Philippines was among the World Vision offices in Asia that endorsed the Asian pop star to be their envoy promoting child sponsorship across Asia.

In his first inaugural trip as Child Sponsorship Ambassador, Jerry visited World Vision-supported projects and communities in Mongolia from 24-30 October.

Following Mongolia, Jerry commenced his Asian tour to eight World Vision offices starting off in Taiwan. He will then proceed to Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Philippines and Thailand from this month until December 2006.

Jerry joins more than three million other World Vision child sponsors in supporting poor children the world over. He currently sponsors three children in Mongolia.

"Becoming a World Vision Child Sponsor has changed me. I had better understanding of the children living in poverty around this part of the world and the dire circumstances many are living in," Jerry said during an interview after his trip in Mongolia.

Jerry said he has seen for himself how child sponsorship helps keep a child in school, provide the child and his family with basic health care, potable water, food security and sustainable livelihood. Through holistic development, the child will be able to live and grow in a healthier, happier environment.

In line with his exposure trip in Mongolia and Asian tour, Jerry is calling for around 35,000 new sponsors for children in need throughout Asia.

Here in the Philippines, World Vision assists more than 120,000 children in 34 provinces and 22 cities across the country. Nearly 10,000 Filipinos are engaged in giving as a life-changing investment to 11,797 children through child sponsorship. For only P15 a day or P450 a month, a child's life is transformed and his/her future is secured.

Through Jerry's visit, World Vision-Philippines hopes to raise public awareness on child sponsorship and find new sponsors for 1,000 poor Filipino children.

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.'s third-quarter net profit (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102#) declined by eight percent to P178.9 million from P194.5 million a year before, the company said.

ABS-CBN said that despite its lower earnings in the third quarter, its net profit for the first nine months of the year had grown by 70 percent to P694 million from P409 million a year before, reflecting the continuing improvement in its core business.

The company's third-quarter revenue fell to P4.5 billion from P4.92 billion because it earned less from selling air time, services, licenses and goods.

Its third-quarter earnings per share declined to P0.229 from P0.254.

For the first nine months, gross revenue inched up by 2 percent to P12.94 billion from P12.74 million.

Earnings per share for the first nine months rose to P0.890 from P0.524.

A Kapamilya Christmas

These lines from an Apo Hiking Society original Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Pasko, given a new flavor by Orange & Lemons, perfectly captures the message of ABS-CBN’s Christmas Station ID (SID) 2006 — Angat ang Ligaya ng Pasko.

"For Filipinos, Christmas will always be celebrated, the hard times, notwithstanding," says ABS-CBN vice president for Creative Communications Management (CCM) Robert Labayen when asked about the SID’s theme. "Pinoys only need warm embraces, shared laughter, intimate moments and a simple noche buena to have a memorable celebration of Christmas. After all, the essence of Filipino Christmas lies in our love for family."

Indeed, the people behind the SID made sure images used were consistent with the premise of the special plug. Felix Nafarette of CCM adds, "If you would pay attention to the props used in the SID, you would see that those are made from recycled materials because that’s how Pinoys are – marunong mamaluktot kapag maikli ang kumot."

The Christmas SID, directed by Marie Jamora, marks ABS-CBN’s first time to venture into Station IDs after more than a year and a half.

"But, it was all worth the wait," quips Kathrina Sanchez of CCM. "After seeing the final version of the SID, the stress of the many weeks of planning, the tedious four-day shoot and the numerous, long hours spent for editing instantly vanished. We are very happy with the outcome of this year’s Christmas SID."

With the immense talents of the entire production crew, which includes director of photography Odessy Flores, the 2006 ABS-CBN Christmas SID perfectly translates a very strong, inspiring Christmas message through impressive visuals – masterfully photographed scenes with colors blended superbly to create the appropriate holiday mood.

But more than just being an eye-candy, Kathrina adds the SID also touches the core of each Kapamilya because it also features a dose of heartwarmingly real scenes that highlight the values Filipinos have. These scenes, of course, feature the ABS-CBN stars and their Kapamilyas – the public, the ordinary people.

The SID, for example, shows how Sarah Geronimo and John Prats show concern for someone in prison, while Kristine Hermosa and Diether Ocampo play Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, respectively, to give importance to the Pinoy’s love for God.

But, the strongest message of the SID is the Filipino’s love for its Kapamilyas.

Dolphy, during the shoot, was quoted as saying, "I really like being part of ABS-CBN Station IDs kasi kumpleto lahat tayo."

True enough, more than a hundred Kapamilya stars participated in the SID. During his scene, Dolphy was surrounded by Kapamilya icons Susan Roces, Maricel Soriano and Judy Ann Santos.

Sharon Cuneta was in her usual bubbly self the whole time she was on the set, while Piolo Pascual and Sam Milby, who just got off their plane from the US, gamely joked with Sharon and everyone on the location.

Aga Muhlach with wife Charlene Gonzalez and Willie Revillame had time to exchange stories during the shoot. Showbiz royalties Boy Abunda, Ai-Ai de las Alas and Kris Aquino graced the gathering.

Instead of reading other people’s heartwrenching testimonials, Maalaala Mo Kaya host and ABS-CBN executive vice president Charo Santos-Concio opted to give children a grand time with her kiddie stories. Meanwhile, Claudine Barretto led the roster of Star Magic talents in the SID.

ASAP ’06 mainstays Zsa-Zsa Padilla, Vina Morales, Gary Valenciano and the Champions Christian Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Sheryn Regis and Erik Santos also had fun during the taping.

Also taking part in the celebration were ABS-CBN’s News and Current Affairs personalities like Korina Sanchez, Ted Failon, Bernadette Sembrano, Julius Babao and Karen Davila.

The SID also features a number of couples, real or reel – John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo, Jericho Rosales and Heart Evangelista, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, Maja Salvador and Jason Abalos, Shaina Magdayao and Rayver Cruz and Angelica Panganiban and Jake Cuenca.

"It" Girls Toni Gonzaga, Mariel Rodriguez, Bianca Gonzales, and Nikki Gil lent their pretty faces to the plug, while Albert Martinez, Vhong Navarro, Matt Evans, Sam Concepcion, Zanjoe Marudo made sure female fans were not shortchanged.

Pinoy Dream Academy headmaster Jim Paredes, with his scholars, also made his SID debut.

Not to be outdone, child wonders Makisig Morales, Jairus Aquino, Sharlene San Pedro, Nash Aguas and other Goin’ Bulilit cast members, provided youthful energy during the shoot.

The ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID 2006 is only one of ABS-CBN’s way of reminding its Kapamilyas that, no matter how hard times are, "sa Kapamilya mo, tuloy na tuloy ang Pasko."

Sarah Geronimo sings national anthem in Pacquiao bout



ABS-CBN talent Sarah Geronimo sang the Philippine national anthem before the start of the third match between Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Erik "El Terrible" Morales in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Geronimo sang "Lupang Hinirang" before a jampacked crowd at the Thomas and Mack Center and was roundly applauded by Filipinos who watched the bout live. Other singers who sang in previous Pacquiao-Morales bouts are Lani Misalucha and Jennifer Revilla.

Geronimo first shot to fame after winning the Philippine talent search "Star for a Night."

She is a mainstay of ABS-CBN weekly musical variety show ASAP '06 and topbilled the network's primetime soap opera "Bituing Walang Ningning" based on the 1985 classic box-office hit movie.

Pinoy boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao defeated Mexican boxing legend Erik "El Terrible" Morales after knocking him down thrice in the third round of their 12-round matchup in Las Vegas, Nevada Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Before a sold out crowd at the Thomas and Mack Arena, Pacquiao quickly humbled his Mexican rival at the opening bell, landing vicious body punches against Morales who responded in kind.

Pacquiao first sent Morales tumbling to the ropes after a vicious left to the face in the second round.

The third round saw Morales dropping to the floor early in the third round before being poleaxed by the Filipino champ’s fists.

Pacquiao will next face WBC World Featherweight champ Marco Antonio Barrera.

The General Santos City native received a guaranteed purse of $3 million (P150 million) from the Morales fight, excluding his shares from television and merchandise revenues. Morales received the same amount.

In their first encounter on March 19, 2005, Morales escaped with a 115-113 decision. But on January 19 of this year, Pacquiao avenged that loss with a 10th round technical knockout victory. Morales had not accepted any other challenge after that loss.
