PMPC presents Star Awards for TV nominees

THE official list of nominees for the 20th Star Awards for Television has been released, reflecting the best shows and performances on local TV cited by the Philippine Movie Press Club for the past year.

The grand awards night is scheduled on October 23 at the University Theater in UP Diliman. RPN-9 will broadcast the show, which will be hosted by Edu Manzano, Toni Gonzaga, Tin-Tin Bersola-Babao and an undisclosed male host from GMA 7 under the direction of Ding Bolaños.

palaban na ang mga shows ng abs-cbn so keep it up! congrats sa maging sino ka man, napakagandang drama. after bituing walang ningning, i still have something to look forward to. naeenjoy na rin ako sa super inggo, it just makes me feel young all over again. dond is doing good too. pero minsan i can't stand to watch any longer pag hindi maganda ang laro ng contestant but when the game is exciting, naganahan rin ako manood. regarding crazy for you, i am a lil bit disappointed with the drama, it's getting draggy na. sa pda naman, i want iya and kristoff expelled. o.a. ni iya and si kristoff, mukha naman siyang mabait but after on prabation twice, hindi pa rin na improve ang kanyang performance so i think he should leave the academy. 2nd chance sana for michelle and rj. sa weekend naman, gusto ko ang format ng your song and star magic presents. sayang, hindi ko talaga mapanood ang let's go but i heard ok siya so happy na rin ako for that sitcom. what make me happy talaga is pedro penduko, didn't expect na maganda ang laban nito to think baguhang actor ang gumanap bilang pedro penduko. congrats to matt and komiks staff for a job well done!

so true..sobrang labo ng reception ng abs-cbn sa mga non-cable t.v to think na nasa metro manila naman kami..last friday nga nawalan kami ng cable kala ko hindi ko na mapapanood finale ng bwn..kaya kahit sobrang labo ng reception ng channel 2 during that time sobrang nag tiyaga na lang kami to watch..;)

Network war heats up

THE television war between ABS-CBN and GMA-7 continues to sizzle as doubts were raised over rating.

Vivian Y. Tin, ABS-CBN vice-president for research and business analysis, yesterday claimed that “somebody did something unethical which makes the rating invalid.”

Tin was referring to GMA-7 survey results showing it is number one in Manila and in the provinces which is done by AGB Nielsen.

However, she was careful with her words. “It’s just that there was something wrong.”

ABS, meanwhile, commissioned TNS of Europe to validate GMA-7’s claim.

“We suspected there was something wrong in the TV ratings hence, we hired an independent group to validate the claim,” Tin said, adding: “Just to make sure of the results.”

Latest survey showed that GMA-7 and ABS-CBN were fighting neck-and-neck in mega Manila and the provinces in the ratings.

GMA-7 has been lording it over the TV ratings since December 2003 after Felipe L. Gozon took over as president.

ABS-CBN chairman Gabby Lopez said he wants to validate the results to get the real picture.

“We suspected something was wrong and we decided to validate our suspicion,” Lopez said in a press conference. He also announced that the station is allotting P1 billion for the purchase of a satellite channel which would increase TV channels by 15. Vic S. Lopez

ABS-CBN bares expansion

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. plans to restructure P4.5 billion in debt to free up some P1 billion in cash and reinvest the amount to expand its signal reach in suburban areas.

ABS-CBN president and chief executive Eugenio Lopez III told reporters yesterday that the broadcasting company would ask creditor-banks to lengthen the repayment period on its debt from two to five years.

He said the debt restructuring would free up P1 billion in cash and allow ABS-CBN to invest in state-of-the-art digital television (DTV) broadcasting in suburban areas.

Lopez said ABS-CBN planned to set up DTV boxes in areas where signal reception of Channel 2 is weak. Potential DTV market includes Valenzuela, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna.

“This will solve our signal problem in suburban areas and at the same time provide advertisers another platform for advertising which will generate additional revenues for the company,” Lopez said.

Digital television sets produce clearer vision and sound because of their increased capacity to receive access signals unlike sets running on analog technology.

ABS-CBN is set to conduct tests on the DTV program it plans to offer to potential subscribers this month until the end of December. Lopez said the company hopes to roll out the program by the middle of next year.

ABS-CBN will offer Channel 2 and 14 additional channels for its subscribers of DTV. Lopez said the company would team up with other content providers to fill up the additional TV channels.

ABS-CBN will install DTV boxes that will cost subscribers a one-time payment of $20, or P1,000.

Meanwhile, Lopez said the company planned to list international arm ABS-CBN Global at the Singapore Stock Exchange by 2008.

“The plan is bring ABS-CBN Global public at some point,” Lopez said. He said ABS-CBN was finalizing details of the offering.

Lopez also expressed dismay over the current stock market price of ABS-CBN in market. “I don’t think it reflects the real value of the company,” he said.

ABS-CBN is also open to the possibility of having a dual listing, which means that shares of ABS-CBN Global will be listed both at the Singapore bourse and Philippine Stock Exchange.

Lopez expressed confidence that ABS-CBN Global would continue to drive the company’s growth given the current slump in the local market. Big advertisers like San Miguel Corp. and Procter and Gamble, he said, had reduced their advertising expenses for Channel 2 alone by P500 million.

ABS-CBN Global accounts for 20 percent of the company’s total revenues. Lopez expects the figure to increase to 50 percent over the next five years.

ABS-CBN Global posted a 3 percent decline in sale of services to P1.70 billion in the first half of the year as subscription revenues in North America fell by half following the deal with DirecTV, which provided for a 50:50 revenue sharing upon migration to DirecTV’s platform.

HAJIWON.. a KBS Production. It's presently doing a killing in the ratings since it was aired last OCtober 11, by the looks of it..this series was so engaging and I really love to have a copy of this series.

Yung Series ni ERIC Mun na murder ng husto when it only get a 10% rating versus a 22% rating on Episode 2 when the HAJIWON did already appear in the series..

This past few days ay hindi ako makatulog kasi bothered na ako sa rating ...hindi yung rating ng Super Telebabad......bagkus ay yung rating sa kabila.....sana naman hindi ito maging hudyat para huwag madagdagan ang mga walang shows sa kabila......papano naman kasi dragging na ang teleserye.......corny as in corny ang dating......OA..pa......ayusin ang directing...ayusin ang script ...ayusin ang cinephotography at ayusin ang lights and sound..nagmumukhang sa Divisoria lang ang mga outdoor scene yung arte ni Toni at Luis.....nagmumukha nang pilit at TH........please...bago pulutin ito somewhere.

THE television war between ABS-CBN and GMA-7
continues to sizzle as doubts were raised over
rating.

Vivian Y. Tin, ABS-CBN vice-president for research
and business analysis, yesterday claimed
that “somebody did something unethical which
makes the rating invalid.”

Tin was referring to GMA-7 survey results showing
it is number one in MegaManila and in the provinces
which is done by AGB Nielsen.

However, she was careful with her words. “It’s just
that there was something wrong.”[/color]

ABS, meanwhile, commissioned TNS of Europe to
validate GMA-7’s claim.

“We suspected there was something wrong in the
TV ratings hence, we hired an independent group
to validate the claim,” Tin said, adding: “Just to
make sure of the results.”

Latest survey showed that GMA-7 and ABS-CBN
were fighting neck-and-neck in mega Manila and
the provinces in the ratings.

GMA-7 has been lording it over the TV ratings
since December 2004 after Felipe L. Gozon took
over as president.

ABS-CBN chairman Gabby Lopez said he wants
to validate the results to get the real picture.

“We suspected something was wrong and we
decided to validate our suspicion,” Lopez said in a
press conference. He also announced that the
station is allotting P1 billion for the purchase of a
satellite channel which would increase TV
channels by 15.

For almost 2 decades, ABS-CBN has held the top spot among TV networks here in Mega Manila. That was until GMA (the consistent no. 2 network) overtook them by the latter part of last year. And from them on, TV ratings have been saying everything-a lot more people here in the Metro watch GMA shows. What has happened to ABS-CBN? Ever since, I've always been a kapamilya and I'm not happy with what's been happening.

I'll lay down some reasons for the fall of ABS to the no. 2 spot and at the same time some advice. (This whole thing is just based on my humble opinion)

Piracy (of shows and of artists). Everyone is guilty of it. Pirating another network's artist or show gives the public a bad impression. Originality has always been as issue. We always hear different shows bragging that they were the first. Yeah right. God knows who was first.

Reprogramming/rescheduling of shows. Clearly, ABS-CBN has been quilty of this. While it's not so bad to change schedules, doing so in a seemingly constant manner is another thing. I remember ABS advertising a reprogrammed primetime and then just a day after that new primetime schedule, the shows were rearranged again. Talk about constancy. As they say, patience is a virtue. Why not wait a few days to observe the effects before doing an action? I don't think it's a good idea just to base on overnight ratings.

ABS-CBN also has this habit of transferring a low-rated show to a new and much more profitable timeslot or even worse, drop it. ABS has already dropped a number of its long-running shows and replaced them with new ones. Also, it's as if ABS-CBN has a rule to terminate new programs if they won't rate competitively in a given timeframe.

GMA, on the other hand, keeps its shows even though they are not rating well. GMA hoped that the people would come to love their shows and the people did. Most of GMA's better rated shows now have been airing a little while longer. Somehow, a show's length of airing is a factor. Look at Eat Bulaga. It has been GMA's pride and glory in the noontime. The worst thing ABS did was to terminate a show which has not yet ended. Surely, that action irritated the show's patrons.

Revamps. These were also constant in most of ABS-CBN's shows. Whether a change of artists or structure, this has been a habit of ABS. Sadly to say, most revamps fail to make the shows better. Take the original GAME KNB? for example. It would surely have not lost if they did not reformat it.

Animes. GMA totally dominated the afternoon timeslot because of its anime programs. ABS-CBN had good animes with them but they just didn't handle them properly. ABS has this thing with animes that when the story reaches the climax or the end, they would re-air the episodes from the beginning. I really hated this.

Of course, it has not been all ABS-CBN's fault. GMA just became lucky with its shows. The phenomenal Starstruck, Mulawin and Extra Challenge-these shows gave the primetime to GMA.
ABS-CBN has to start producing fresh quality shows and not just some crap or remake of other shows. And when they started one, they should handle it 'til the end.

I can't think of anymore but there are still lots of reasons of course. I hope ABS-CBN would regain the top spot again. I am still with Channel 2. But they should start acting now. They may have held the No.1 spot in the last many years, but that was the past. It's time to regain what rightfully belongs to them-and they should prove that it should really belong to them.

GMA may have ruled over Mega Manila but ABS-CBN still holds most of the Philippines. This last weekend for example, one does not need ratings to find out that ABS-CBN's still No. 1 in Cebu. The video footages of both networks are enough proof.
Again, this is just my humble opinion.

AFTER putting "Masayang Tanghali Bayan" on ABS-CBN on a tight watch, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) turned its attention on the network's game show, "Next Level Na! Game KNB?"

The MTRCB ordered the game show, hosted by Kris Aquino, to stop featuring "disgusting" and "indecent" challenges in its "Tapang" segment to avoid suspension.

"Viewers think such scenes are either indecent or disgusting to be shown on a 7 p.m. time slot, when most families are having supper," she said on Wednesday.

She said viewers also think the scenes violate the "PG" rating allowed for TV.

Laguardia also said she warned "Magandang Umaga Bayan" co-host Ogie Diaz for using words with double-meaning "because children are watching while they prepare for school."

She said that on Tuesday, two "Game KNB?" contestants, sexy stars Belinda Bright and Maricar de Mesa, were made to eat -- without using their hands -- the banana split off the stomachs of two men in bikini trunks who were floating in a swimming pool.

Laguardia also cited the show's December 30 episode, where members of the rap group Salbakuta were asked to remove their clothes, run around and choose between shaving their eyelashes and taking off their underwear.

On January 7, members of the male pop group Masculados were each asked to retrieve a dead frog, a snake, a rat, and a piece of false teeth from an aquarium filled with taho.

Wednesday, Laguardia and MTRCB members Eric Mallonga, Zosimo Allegre and Dennis Manicad met with ABS-CBN legal adviser Maxim Uy and program producer Riza Enbriega to discuss the complaints about "Game KNB?"

Enbriega said Wednesday night, "We cannot please everybody, but the ratings speak for themselves. In fact, last night's (Tuesday) episode did well with 36 percent."

"I believe the network is willing to tone down its programming as part of self-regulation," Laguardia said. "We also plan to discuss with them a possible change in time slot."

"Game KNB?" executive in-charge Enrico Santos said the dialogue went well. Santos is the network's VP for synergy and creative development. "I was told everyone went home happy," he said.

"Next Level Na! Game KNB?" has three elimination levels. Eight contestants compete in "Tsamba," the first level. Those who pass this compete in the physical round, the "Tapang" level, where two will be picked. The two contestants then compete in the "Talino" level, where each has to answer questions in categories picked by his or her opponent.

The contestant who survives the three levels will win cash for himself or herself and for a charitable institution, plus a personalized showcase.

Also last Wednesday, the MTRCB met with "MUB" program producer Annie Eugenio to discuss the case of Ogie Diaz.

In the January 7 episode of "MUB," Ogie asked a woman caller questions like, "Naipasok mo na?" and "Nailabas mo na?"

"These offensive words are not suited for children who might be watching while preparing for school," Laguardia said.

Laguardia also pointed out that the MTRCB is monitoring all TV networks, not just ABS-CBN.

eh, di ba nag-guest na rin si Laguardia sometime sa first episodes ng wowowee...at meron pa nga nung laguardia angels na matatandang babae na mag-dya-judge kunwari sa ilang contest.

nabanggit din ang pagdalaw ni laguardia sa isang episode ng The Buzz.

pinaka-latest na ang pagpayag ni laguardia na ma-feature sya at ang kanyang bahay sa Magandang Umaga Pilipinas few months ago lang.

sa lahat nang binanggit ko yung sa The Buzz lang ang di ko napanood...though, many newspapers ang nagreport dahil iyon sa isang certain issue....nahaging lang....

sa GKNB....wala akong bad review dun....pinaka-panget talaga na game show sa kasaysayan ng pilipinas ang naunang version ng wowowee....na malinaw na it promotes mediocrity.

please lang...ayokong balikan ang baluktot na pangangatwiran at pag-i-scapegoat ng wowowee sa nangyaring stampede. kesyo ang kahirapan ng pinoy ay dahil sa gobyerno...kesyo dumarami na nga ang pinoy na desperado at nagiging 'uhaw' sa konting ginhawa na ini-aalok sa kanila kaya nauwi sa balyahan at trahedya ang kanila sanang masayang pagdiriwang.

NOW THAT “BITUING WALANG Ningning” has finally faded to black on our TV screens, we can more objectively and comprehensively evaluate its long run on ABS-CBN.

First conclusion: It’s downright amazing how the people behind the show were able to stretch its slim movie story into a months-long drama series, full of emotional highs and lows, dramatic twists and turns, and melodramatic tics and schticks at every turn.

The result of all that stretching was sometimes discombobulating, however. Characters ended up contradicting their initial nature, the struggle between good and evil became too ferocious for words, and performances were either insufficient or over-the-top.

Most insufficient of all was Sarah Geronimo’s portrayal of the series’ lead ingenue, Dorina. Sarah is a good singer, but she wasn’t able to make her character dramatically compelling and empathetic, opting instead to play her as a weeping victim practically from beginning to end.

At the other, over-the-top end, the show was able to do the seemingly impossible—make a bad actress out of the much-admired Amy Austria.

The fine thespian was cast as the mother of Dorina’s rival, Lavinia, and was required to do such dastardly things that believability flew out of the window.

Would you believe, Amy’s character was even shown smashing the hand of another daughter, so she would no longer be able to do what she loved most—play the guitar? What an incredible virago!

The series’ final week was a major caution. It was filled with so many dramatic and musical highlights that the overwhelmed viewer felt like switching off and tuning out.

The death scene of Ai-Ai de las Alas’ character was especially “over”: She was shown moving her hand up and down Sarah’s arm for the longest time, and then the movement stopped, Sarah clasped Ai-Ai’s hand, and she and the viewers “realized” that Ai-Ai’s character had expired.

The long moment was meant to be beautiful, artistic and delicately heartbreaking, but it was too self-consciously staged, so it came off as a big, “TH” disappointment. When will our TV “artists” truly understand that less is more?

“Bituing Walang Ningning,” the movie, was no great shakes as an authentically moving musical drama, but its TV spin-off was so lush that the original film now looks much better in comparison.

That’s what happens when TV “artists” stretch and embellish a movie almost beyond recognition, adding too many “highlights” because each day’s installment has to have a series of big, melodramatic highs, which cumulatively ends up—as a big letdown.

Ang pag pili ng modelo at wala sa programa diba nasa ...kumpanya yun.....at saka ......kung titignan mong mabuti eh di hamak naman na mas senior ang mga artista ng kabila kumpara sa kapuso.....tignan mong mabuti yun Sam eh ..matagal na siyang model compared sa mg SS stars diba ..

I received this mail before the weekend. In the spirit of fair play, I am reprinting it in toto.

This is in reference to the item which appeared in your column, “Simply Red,” Oct. 13, about ABS-CBN copying GMA’s ideas and activities.

As we all know, the recent Guimaras oil spill left a devastating mark on the lives of countless Filipinos. Issues concerning health and livelihood were raised, exposing the real impact of the spill.

Being an organization committed to serving Filipinos wherever they may be, it was a logical and easy decision for ABS-CBN Iloilo to immediately come up “Halad Kapamilya,” an activity geared towards alleviating the plight of the victims. This was our primordial concern.

So on Aug. 21, about a month before the program was launched, we had already announced on TV and radio that such an activity would take place. The overwhelming reaction we got from the countless volunteers attests to the fact that ABS-CBN Iloilo was the first to respond to an escalating clamor for help.

In fact, the “Halad Kapamilya sa Guimaras” of ABS-CBN Iloilo was very successful and widely acknowledged by Ilonggos to be effective (we received a lot of donations from different groups and individuals; one group even gave 100 sacks of rice), that we had to do a second part last Sept. 23 to distribute more relief goods to other barangays in Guimaras.

Indeed, during these moments, getting ahead of competition was the least of our concerns. If and when GMA’s medical mission happened on the same day with ours, we couldn’t have prevented it—the desire to be involved and help is but human. What should be focused on anyway is the fact that the people of Guimaras benefited from the activities that were put up for them.

With regard to “TV Patrol Iloilo,” it is true that we re-launched the program last Sept. 18 along with new segments such as “Lakwatsa ni Rdawn,” “MOR Chika,” “Patrol on Special Assignment,” “Live Reports,” etc. “Punto por Punto,” however, was not part of this lineup. “Punto por Punto” has long been existing in “TV Patrol Iloilo” since Atty Peñaflorida became our anchor in year 2004. GMA launched their segment of the same title only last January.

We hope that these clarifications will see print in your column. Through the help of innovative and relevant ideas, ABS-CBN Iloilo concretizes its commitment to work very hard to provide excellent journalism to our viewers.

Buong akala raw kasi ng Siete ay makukuha na nila ang dalawa, especially Echo dahil nga wala na itong kontrata sa Dos at sa katunayan ay nakapag-guest na ito sa ilang shows ng GMA para sa promo ng first album niya at may plano na nga sa kanya ang nasabing network kung saang show siya ilalagay.

TV host-comedian Willie Revillame was a “no-show” yesterday during the continuation of the preliminary conference of the petition for declaration of nullity of marriage filed by his estranged wife at the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.

Branch 89 Judge Elsa de Guzman conducted a closed-door conference attended by petitioner, Liz Almoro-Revillame and her legal counsel, Katrina Legarda.

Revillame, on the other hand, was represented by legal counsel Armando Marcelo.

Branch clerk of court Marcial Makasiar, meanwhile, explained that Revillame could execute a special power of attorney that would authorize his legal counsel to represent him in the proceedings.

Makasiar, however, failed to reveal the reason for Revillame’s absence.

He also refused to reveal what transpired during the preliminary conference but clarified it was not meant for mediation or settlement of the case.

It was learned that Almoro was pursuing her petition for permanent protection order (PPO) against Revillame last week.

Earlier, Atty. Legarda revealed that her client was suffering from “battered woman syndrome.”

Several witnesses have also reportedly submitted sworn statements supporting Almoro’s testimonies.

Makasiar explained that a PPO will be issued once the court has determined the propriety of the issues raised by Almoro.

He added that the effectivity of the temporary protection order (TPO) earlier issued could be renewed for another 30 days until such time that the matter on the issuance of the PPO has been resolved.

“Under Republic Act 9262 (Violence against Women and their Children), once a PPO is issued, the person who is the subject of the PPO would be prohibited from communicating with the petitioner; he will also be prohibited from going near the petitioner at a given radius and give financial support to their child, if they have any,” Makasiar explained.

ABS-CBN appeal rejected

THE Court of Appeals yesterday rejected an appeal by executives of the ABS-CBN broadcast network to stop the justice department from investigating the Feb. 4 stampede that killed 74 people during Wowowee, one of the company’s live TV shows.

It said the petitioners led by the network’s executive vice president, Ma. Rosario Santos Concio, failed to show any compelling reasons to reverse its May 24 order.

The court said it was the executive department’s job to conduct preliminary investigations, and that the justice secretary’s findings were not subject to judicial review unless they had been issued with grave abuse.

A five-member panel from the justice department has yet to come up with a resolution on the homicide charges filed against the network by the National Bureau of Investigation.

Concio aside, the other people charged in the case were Wowowee host Willie Revillame; Maria Socorro Vidanes, senior vice president for television production; Marilou Almaden, executive producer; and Cipriano Luspo, assistant vice president and head of security of ABS-CBN.

Also charged were Moly Stewart, Wowowee executive producer and manager; Harold James Nueva, associate producer for sets and technical; Norberto Vidanes, Wowowee director; Rey Cayabyab, assistant location manager and security coordinator; Francisco Rivera, ABS-CBN’s location manager; Mel Feliciano, the show’s assistant director; and Jean Owen Garcia, floor director.

The NBI also endorsed the filing of administrative cases against Pasig City Mayor Vicente Eusebio and several other people. Rey E. Requejo

Court junks appeal against justice probe on Ultra stampede (2:40 p.m.)

MANILA -- The Court of Appeals (CA) has dismissed the motion for reconsideration filed by executives of television giant ABS-CBN to restrain the justice department from proceeding with its preliminary investigation on the stampede in Pasig City on February 4.

The stampede occurred during the first anniversary celebration of the noontime game show "Wowowee" at the Philsports (formerly Ultra) Arena.

In a resolution penned by Associate Justice Arturo Tayag, the CA's Special Thirteenth Division affirmed its May 24 decision rejecting the petition filed by ABS-CBN executives led by Charo Santos-Concio, executive vice president, and "Wowowee" host Willie Revillame.

"After carefully considering the grounds or arguments stated in the subject motion for reconsideration, this court finds the grounds and the reasons in support thereof have been already considered, discussed and passed upon in the questioned decision. Hence, there appears no valid or cogent reason to disturb, reverse or modify said decision," the CA said.

The CA affirmed the legality of Department Orders 90 and 165, dated February 8 and March 8, 2006, which called for the conduct of a preliminary investigation against the network owners and show organizers. (ECV/Sunnex)

Mahal ang bayad sa paggamit ng mga kanta ng grupong Hotdog, kaya hindi kami nagtataka kung sagarin man ng ABS-CBN ang paggamit sa mga songs ng grupo na sumikat nu’ng 70s.

Heto nga at isang album ng mga kanta ng Hotdog ang inilabas ng Star Records. Siyempre, kasama na rin ito sa datung na binayaran nila sa grupo.

Eh, ang GMA-7 nga, hindi magamit sa mga shows nila ang kanta ng grupo dahil sa mahal na singil. hahaha!

After ng album, asahan ang palagiang paggamit ng Dos sa kanta ng Hotdog sa lahat ng kanilang shows.

Hindi pala alam ng friends ni Jake Cuenca sa GMA-7 na lumipat na siya sa Dos, kaya nang mapanood siya kahapon sa Homeboy, nagulat lahat at nagsipag-text sa kanya.

"Hindi ko rin naman kasi ipinag-iingay pa or kinukuwento, kasi baka maudlot," sabi ni Jake nang makausap namin kahapon sa presscon ng Love Spell, kung saan ay kasama siya sa bagong episode na Home Switch Home.

Tinext daw siya agad ni Dennis Trillo nang mapanood siya at gulat na gulat daw ito, ganundin si Tyron Perez, pati na ang ilang staff ng GMA-7.

Para kay Jake, ang offer ng ABS-CBN na teleseryeng Sana Maulit Muli ang nakakumbinsi sa kanyang lumipat, bukod sa makakapareha niya ang matagal nang "labs" na si Angelica Panganiban.

"Pagkatapos kong mabasa yung script, sabi ko sa sarili ko, kailangan kong gawin ito. Maganda kasi ang role," sabi pa ng aktor.

Pero noon pa raw ay may offer na sa kanya ang ABS-CBN at ang manager niyang si Neil de Guia ang nakikipag-usap, kaya hindi niya masyadong alam ang kumpletong detalye ng deal.

Timing na that time, malapit nang mag-expire ang kontrata niya sa Siyete at wala ring naka-line-up na project ang network after Majika.

Pero hindi lang Sana Maulit Muli ang ibinigay sa kanya, kundi pati Love Spell at Pedro Penduko. Si Jake ang bagong ka-loveteam ni Angelica, na gustung-gusto niya dahil noon pa raw siya patay na patay sa dalaga. Niligawan daw niya ito before, pero naudlot.

Ngayong magkasama na sa isang network, wala raw sigurong masama kung ipagpapatuloy niya ang panliligaw, lalo't walang BF ang young actress ngayon.

Ratings are starting to pick-up again. Ganun kasi yung problema ng mga prometime shows natin. Sa simula, mabagal ang takbo ng istorya kaya nadadamay pati yung mga ibang shows gaya ng BWN at SI dati. Ngayon naman ay yung MSKM, nasa first two weeks pa kasi siya kaya di pa nae-establish ang storya. However, from the ratings last Tuesday, mukhang nagsisimula na syang magpick-up ng audience.

About PDA, it is nice to see that the hardwork has paid-off. Exciting na talaga sya ngayon kasi nabuild-up na yung mga personalities ng mga scholars.

Sa average pala ng noontime at afternoon shows ay panalo na pala ang ABS-CBN, so ang next target na pala ay ang primetime mismo. Hula ko lang na this fourth quarter ay dominated pa rin ng kabila ang primetime although maliit na lang talaga ang lead nila. By first quarter next year ay maaari ng makuha ulit ng ABS-CBN yung primetime domination if Lastikman and Rounin will be a big hit kagaya ng Darna nung summer 2005. I suggest to them not to rely on the koreannovela alone, just air one korean novela para bonus na lang nila sa audience pero don't expect na yun ang magdadala sa primetime nila kasi medyo nagsasawa na rin yung mga tao sa asian series.

ANOTHER REMAKE

ABS-CBN’S revival of the 80’s hit “Gulong ng Palad” was such a toprater it’s no wonder they’re reviving another hit soap from RPN-9, “Flor de Luna”. (We won’t be surprised then if GMA-7 would also revive their former hit, “Anna Liza”.)

The new “Flor de Luna” will be directed by Jerry Sineneng, who was convincing as a film director exploiting macho dancers (is this true to life, Jerry?) in “Twilight Dancers”. Playing the title role that made Janice de Belen a household name then is ELIZA PINEDA, best known as the daughter of Piolo Pascual in “Till There Was You”. Playing her mom (Emma Yuhico then) is Vina Morales and the stepmom (Laurice Guillen then) is Eula Valdez. Originally tapped to play Vina’s role was Kris Aquino, but she demurred when she got preggy. Still to be cast is the role of the dad (then played by the late Dindo Fernando) and the brother Reneboy (then played by Herbert Bautista). A very important role is that of the villainous Donya Agueda (then played by Carmen Enriquez). Our suggestion is they now get Laurice to play that role as a nod to the original series.

It seems like only yesterday, a young sweet sixteener graced the small screen and captivated audiences with her youthful innocence.

Now, Bea Alonzo, Star Magic’s jewel, is 19 years old, and she has grown quite a fine young woman and admirable actor.

Last Oct. 17, Bea celebrated her last “tween” year. She moves to the adult world next year.

Since her launching in 2001, not a few admitted to being smitten by the teenager’s beauty, more so by her convincingly playing roles in movies and drama series on television.

How can anyone forget Katrina Argos in Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, the series that cemented her team up with then up-and-coming heartthrob John Lloyd Cruz. OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF ABS-CBN ON THE FILING OF CRIMINAL CHARGES ON THE ULTRA INCIDENT
ABS-CBN disagrees with the decision of the Department of Justice
to file charges against its officers and production staff
for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides

and physical injuries as a result of the ULTRA stampede last February.
It is ABS-CBN’s position that there is no evidence to support the DOJ’s decision.
Nevertheless, the DOJ’s decision is not the final ruling on this legal issue.
It will be up to the courts of law to finally decide if the DOJ is correct and whether or not there is any criminal liability on the part of the ABS-CBN officers and production staff.
ABS-CBN has full confidence in the legal system and has no doubt that justice will be ultimately served for all concerned.
Regardless of the pending legal issues, ABS-CBN wishes to assure the public
that it will continue to provide support and assistance to the victims of the stampede
through the 71 Dreams Foundation, which was created specifically for this purpose.

Ha Ji-won Speaks Up for Chosun-Era Gisaeng

It isn't until the setting sun makes the shadows grow long on the set of "Hwang Jin-I," the KBS 2 historical drama that took a staggering 20 percent of the viewing rate at its debut, that Ha Ji-won can settle down for a moment's rest. "This is the first time that I have felt jealous during acting," she says. "The charisma of a world-class beauty, the intellect to keep her on a par with the scholars in a poetry contest: there was nowhere she was lacking. More than anything else, she didn't give in to the pressure of her class or of the era in which she was born. She took the life she was given and lived it in an admirable way."

To the brassy question, "Aren't gisaeng just the girls who pour the liquor?" the actress kept her cool: "You can look at it that way, but they were at once entertainers and artists." "Nowadays you can see celebrities on TV and on stage, but in the Chosun period it was the gisaeng that filled that role," she said. "But they did have to pour the drinks, and sometimes they had to give their bodies, and since they could never love easily, their lives were often filled with pain."

Through the role, the actress is living the arduous life of a Chosun-era entertainer for herself. "There was one extra who cried real tears during the shooting of a scene where their feet were bound and strung upside to perform a dance," she recalls. "Physically and mentally, the life of the gisaeng is hard."

And she added, "For a female entertainer, the closest companion is pain." Asked if there is a line like that in the drama, Ha smiles. "Yes, it's a line from the fourth episode. Since I'm going through the joys and sorrows felt by the gisaeng throughout the drama, certain lines speak to my heart word for word." Ha is an actress who has a wide range of room to be analyzed. In an industry full of stars who have finely chiseled noses and wide eyes, Ha looks like the girl next door. Ironically it was that ordinariness that helped her to grow into a top class actor on the big and small screen. Most of the characters she played in some way broke the mold, and it was possible because of an appearance that can become any character as well as her fine dramatic craft.

For Ha, a drama requiring her to embody traditional feminine beauty is both an opportunity and a risk. "As you know, I don't have a pretty doll-like face, nor do I have a lot of charisma. But because of that, I can fit better into various types of characters. I often wish I were prettier, though." In the drama she refused to use a double for the tightrope walk scene. She set up a rope in the yard of her house and learned herself over the course of two weeks. "I felt like I lack something, and that's why I always want to learn. Interestingly, whenever I want to learn something, there comes the chance to shoot a movie or drama related to it. When I started to get interested in dance, I ended up starring in 'Duelist', which allowed me to learn both ballet and tango. Do you think I have some sort of psychic power? It's scary."

avid viewers who follow the sunday talk show "the buzz" on abs cbn and "s files" on gma7,have noticed how the latter has been trying to copy some segments of the former. is "s files" really on desperate move to be like "the buzz" which has been reigning in the tv ratings for several weeks now?


"s files" has been doing the "bind items" style of reporting that "the buzz" is known for.boy abundas tone in his voice-over is also being copied by some unknown talent in sfiles.
whats happening with the creative think-tanks of gma7?get ur minds to work,please ,or you easily get branded for being a "second rate,trying hard copy at."

Tonight, the Philippine Movie Press Club hands out trophies to people with outstanding achievements on television.

The 20th Star Awards for Television will be held at the UP Theater at 6 p.m. with Boy Abunda, Joey Marquez, Jean Garcia, Toni Gonzaga, and Tin-Tin Bersola Babao as hosts.

Ogie Alcasid will be the face of TV trivia.

Rachelle Ann Go, Christian Bautista, Freemale Dancers, Starstruck 3, SCQ, Roxanne Barcelo, and Sam Milby are among those expected to perform between awarding of trophies in 52 categories, including Best Drama Actress, Best Drama Actor, Best Single Performance By An Actor and Actress, Best Comedy Actor and Actress. The late Eddie Mercado will be posthumously given the Ading Fernando Lifetime Achievement Award at Harry Gasser the Excellence in Broadcasting Award.

ANNE Curtis thought she and Luis "Lucky" Manzano would end up together when they first met. But Lucky wasn’t able to profess his feelings for Anne soon. When he finally did, she was already going out with Oyo Boy Sotto. "At that time, I was so enamored of Oyo Boy, I cannot imagine breaking up with him," relates Anne.

Anne and Lucky, though, have remained good friends.

Now, the two confessed they are both loveless. So, what’s keeping them from falling in love?

"Our busy schedules," Anne answers. "We hardly have time nga to be together. Kahit mag-usap sa phone ay di namin magawang madalas."

No wonder that the two are both looking forward to start working on their second movie together, "Cute ang Ina Mo," with Ai Ai de las Alas, to be directed by Wenn Deramas. Their first team-up was in one of the episodes of "All About Love."

Both Anne and Lucky are busy with their teleserye on ABS-CBN. Anne stars in "Maging Sino Ka Man" and Lucky stars in "Crazy for You."
