Mas nakatulong sa ABS-CBN sa totoo lang ang pagkakaroon ng mababang ratings. Kasi, kahit mababa ratings nila, kumikita sila. Mas lalong napapagbuti ang mga shows nila. Look at GMA in last quarter of 2003, dahil sa mababa nilang ratings, mas napagbuti nila ang mga shows nila. Kaya ngayon, in 2004 and first half of 2005, humataw yung mga shows nila sa ratings. Last half of 2005 and ngayong 2006, medyo lumiliit ang gap because may improvement na nangyayari sa ABS-CBN. :)

Philippine Tourism Secretary Joseph Ace H. Durano appoints Korean actress Eugene as Philippine publicity ambassadress in an event held in Seoul on June 7, 2006.


The Philippines has registered the highest growth rate over competitors for the Korean market in the year 2005 becoming an all time Southeast Asian favorite destination.

Korea is now the largest Asian market for the Philippines posting a double-digit percentage increase every month averaging over 29 %.

The remarkable 30% growth rate for the first three months of this year is an indication of a productive year with over 480,000 arrivals in the year 2005.

"We are optimistic that we can reach our target of 600,000 at the end of this year with the support of Korean travel trade industries," Tourism Secretary Jospeh Durano observed.

Meeting with a group of Korean news media shortly after official launching of Philippine Media Campaign on July 7 at Millennium Seoul Hilton in downtown Seoul, Durano thanked the Korean media for their conscientious and balanced coverage of the Philippines which he said has continued to grace numerous travel stories and headlines, thus propelling interest in key tourism destinations of the Philippines among holiday seekers as well as new market segments such as silver, the incentive travel, the special interest and retirees market.

"The number 7,107 is our new brand message and Ms.Eugene is our messenger," declared Secretary Joseph Ace H. Durano in his opening remarks of the spectacular function attended by hundreds of Korean and Filipino media representatives as well as members of Korean travel trade business community including US Chung, chairman of the Korean Tourism Association.

The campaign appeals to family vacationers, newlyweds and leisure seekers, like golf aficionados.

Secretary Durano flew into Seoul on June 6 leading a high-powered travel trade mission from the Philippines in a bid to sustain the massive influx of Korean tourists to this archipelago in the Pacific region on the occasion of the KOTFA which opened on June 8 for a four-day run at COEX in downtown Seoul.

DoT launched 30-second commercials at a gathering of travel agents in the Millennium Hilton Hotel here before airing on Korean television.

Durano said the aim was to let Koreans know that there is more to the Philippines than beaches.

Durano said the department did extensive study of Asian markets, using surveys and focus group discussions to come up with a new tack.

For South Korea, Durano announced, singer-actress Eugene Kim, who has a strong following in both her country and the Philippines, had been tapped to serve as tourism envoy.

"Kim was picked because she fits the demographics of our target market: the honeymooners and young single people or those with families who are all looking for holiday destinations," he said.

The Philippines has set up far reaching economic and political reforms to sustain macroeconomic stability to match the influx of foreign tourists, . Durano said.

Pointing out that economic reforms are being concentrated on improving fiscal position apart from the implementation of the expanded VAT law, focus will be on strengthening tax collection that will ultimately allow the government to implement noteworthy projects not only for the traveling public but also for the Philippine populace, he explained.

"Peace, social justice and prosperity in all strata of the Philippine society is President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's resolution for the remaining years of her terms despite the continued disputes of different political factions. Durano said.

Secretary Durano then noted that President Arroyo remains steadfast in steering the country to its right direction for the progress all the Filipinos hope to achieve.

The gross national product (GNP) of the Philippines rose by 5.7 % in 2005 and is forecast to grow to 6.3 % this year whereas personal consumption expenditure averaged 4.9 % for the whole year of 2005 propelling manufacturing sector to accelerate by 5.6 %, the highest growth since 2001.

Touching on Korean investment projects in the Philippines, Secretary Durano said that the most recent being Hanjin, Korea's shipping giant, which has invested $1 billion in a shipyard facility at the Subic Freeport Zone.

"There are benefits which the Korean businessmen could gain for putting their capital in the Philippines. Among them are the free and unrestricted repatriation of capital, a fully liberalized foreign exchange system and a range of financial and administrative incentives, just to name a few," he said.

With the growing honeymooners vacationing, Korean business business could also gain from putting capital in resort business such as the Seraph Hotel that has become a popular haven for Korean Boracay beach lovers, Durano maintained.

According to Secretary Durano, a total of 22 tourism projects worth 3.89 billion pesos was endorsed by Department of Tourism to various government agencies for grant of incentives and clearances in 2005.

"DoT will continue to prioritize infrastructure support to tourism development. Cebu South Road support project is an example of how travel time can be cut between Cebu city and the southern cities which offer alternative attractions," he said.

Durano then pointed out that airport upgrading, tourism highways to facilitate tourist's mobility and airline refleeting programs are but other few key strategic measures which his ministry will continue to expand.

I called up ABS-CBN Programs Acquisition this afternoon. They're happy because My Girl is catching up, ratings-wise. In fact, last Wednesday, it won over Love of the Condor Heroes in Metro Manila. They're really really glad about this development.


Also, they got new Korean series. Can't disclose yet :)

Korina back as news anchor, replaces Dong in Insider

Gone from newscasting for more than two years, Korina will replace Dong Puno as co-anchor of the late-night ABS-CBN newscast Insider which will be changed to Bandila once Korina assumes her post. Ces Drilon is retained as Bandila co-host, with Henry Omaga-Diaz completing the team.

It’s actually a comeback to the same timeslot for Korina who used to co-host the late-night newscast Pulso, Aksyon, Balita with Ted Failon. Insider replaced PAB and was originally anchored by Erwin Tulfo (now with RPN 9) and Bernadette Sembrano (host of Nagmamahal Kapamilya and co-host of the ABS-CBN early-morning show Magandang Umaga Pilipinas).

Korina was co-host of TV Patrol, now known as TV Patrol World, with Julius Babao who now anchors the same newscast with Karen Davila and Failon. Korina hosts the Sunday show Rated K which was put up after she left TV Patrol.

According to The STAR informer, the Insider reshuffle of hosts is part of the ongoing reformatting of some ABS-CBN shows (not including The Buzz, clarified Roxy Liquigan, one of the show’s producers who corrected an earlier Funfare item).

Napansin ko last Thursday na natalo sa rating ang ILNY....ng 2% ..that's the rule of the game.........I think last episode na yata ng SPM mo last Thursday ......so expected na tataas ang rating nito.............farewell SPM for once at least naka ungos sa kalaban.............

In fairness lahat naman ng shows every Tuesday -Thursday tumataas.......ang ratings............pero Monday and FRiday expected na medyo mababa......In fairness naka 31% ang BWN ..good performance so far ito yung pinakamataas na rating ng BWN...........

I thought na ilampaso na ang LOTCH .....hindi naman pala nakakalamang parin ito ng mataas na puntos .....sa katapat.............

Nakaka excite sa Monday kasi both station ay may mga bagong ipapalabas....katatapos lang ng JITP .....and SPM I wonder kung ano ang ipapalit nila dito.........?

although i didn't watch mmk last night because i was watching something, i was able to ask neighbors, household members, they were satisfied of the new changes implied on mmk. ang tagal na nila hindi nakasubaybay sa dramang anthology because of late schedule. with the new schedule, hindi na mahirap isubaybay. naninibago nga sila but they said masasanay din.

Don’t look now. But after GMA 7 taped its ongoing "I Love New York" series at the Big Apple, ABS-CBN will soon follow suit with its new soap series to be taped in Europe, starring Toni Gonzaga and Luis Manzano.

Yes, ABS-CBN will try to capture the gloss of the Korean novelas the network has been airing on its primetime block, by having its own soap series taped abroad. This is welcome news, considering that ABS-CBN has been doing a lot of cost-cutting measures in its entertainment and corporate set-ups since last year. The network is apparently spending a huge amount to capture the grandeur of Europe and bring it to television through its new primetime soap.

Toni and Luis are set to leave this month to start taping in key cities in Europe including Barcelona, for the series. Toni is just wrapping up her Star Cinema movie with Sam Milby, "You Are the One," while Luis has just concluded his hosting chores for "Star Circle Kid Quest" as well as his promo blitz for Star Cinema’s "All About Love."

The two lead stars will be reportedly away for two months and will be back sometime in August.

‘PBB’ teens off to Hong Kong

ABS-CBN is giving a real treat to four "Pinoy Big Brother" Teen Edition housemates by sending them to Hong Kong. Not for a holiday treat, though, but to tape an episode of "Your Song," the Sunday afternoon drama series.

We heard the network is bringing to Hong Kong "PBB" Teen Edition Big Winner Kim Chiu with her now-certified love team, Gerald Anderson. They will be joined by Mikki Arceo and Aldred Gatchalian.

We won’t be surprised if ABS-CBN will fully capitalize on the popularity of the teens by also coming up with a movie for Star Cinema, starring the certified young stars.

HIGHLIGHTS

After a triumphant 5 weeks’ basking in the public spotlight with a round of tv guestings and malls shows from Market Market to SM Sta Rosa – our CloseUp to Fame 2 candidates had a whole new set of challenges. The episode was spiced up with guest appearances from acoustic crooner Paolo Santos, hiphop star JR, and funnyman Vhong Navarro as well as r&b supergroup SouthBorder. From dance showdowns to ‘candid-camera’-type adventures, the evening was nonstop entertainment. Derek Ramsey once again joined the divine Ms. D. and director Joey Reyes on the panel of judges. As teenstar Rachel Alejandro and r&b’s main man Luke Mijares reprised the biggest CloseUp songs, from “Smile” to “Just A Smile Away”, the remaining band of CloseUp candidates acted their hearts out in a variety of themes. Tearful good-byes capped the night as Kyle and Aimee said their farewells. Remaining VizMin hopes are now Dimples of Cebu and Micah of Bacolod.

Late-night news comes early

“BANDILA,” ABS-CBN’s reformatted late-night newscast, will now be aired at an earlier time slot, 10:30, starting July 3.

This development is to be announced today by Eugenio Gabriel Lopez III, network chair; Charo Santos, channel head and executive vice president; and Maria Ressa, senior vice president and head of News and Current Affairs.

Ressa gave Inquirer Entertainment a first look at the reprogramming or “re-gridding” of the late-night lineup.

Inquirer initially broke the story on May 28, after three late-night Current Affairs shows—“Pipol,” “Kontrobersyal” and “Payong Kapatid”—were rumored to be facing cancellation.

Big risk

While “Payong Kapatid” was turned into a segment on the morning program “Magandang Umaga Pilipinas,” “Pipol” and “Kontrobersyal” will soon stop airing, Ressa confirmed.

After “many weeks of planning,” the network is unveiling more “changes” in its evening lineup.

Head of Current Affairs Luchi Cruz-Valdez said the earlier newscast is “an act of leadership.”

“It’s a big risk,” Ressa noted. “We are making a bet that Filipino viewers want to receive information while they are still awake.”

Media critics have lamented that late-night newscasts came in much too late, at 12 midnight, and Current Affairs programs, even later at 1 a.m.

“We are responding to a clamor,” Valdez said.

Valdez admitted that this move entails a huge sacrifice. “We are going up against Entertainment shows on the other channels,” she said.

Moreover, Valdez said, there is the risk of losing revenues from advertisers who prefer Entertainment shows over N&CA programs.

Judgment call

“We are making a judgment call as a full network,” Ressa explained. “In the Philippines, news is only 20 percent of the entire content; entertainment, 80 percent. [But] we got everyone’s blessing, including the Entertainment people.”

The “re-gridding,” Ressa said, “represents the changes in our newsroom in the past year; it pushes our vision statement: excellent journalism … [in the service of] nation-building.”

Three days in the work week, the 30-minute newscast is to be followed by a one-hour Current Affairs program—making it “an hour and a half of N&CA on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,” Valdez said.

“Entertainment kept only two days: Monday and Friday,” Ressa said. “The three Current Affairs shows that have been retained are ‘The Correspondents’ (Tuesday), ‘S.O.C.O.’ or ‘Scene of the Crime Operatives’ (Wednesday), and ‘Probe’ (Thursday).”

it only means one thing that MMK is still MMK. sa tingin ko effective na yung mga once-a-week primetime program ay ilagay sa 9-9:30 pm timeslot. all of the local series are on MWF while Korean series airs TThS. tingin ko effective to and it will set another trend sa tv programming. Then the latenight news program will air at 10:30 pm. by 11:15 ay yung mga N&CA programs. Pag 12 midnight, palabas sana sila ng mga replay ng mga shows nila nung 80's and 90's.

Which network is no. 1 in Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo?

With GMA Network maintaining its stronghold of the number one spot in Mega Manila TV ratings, it has now targeted the regions, specifically Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo.

In its effort to create awareness among viewers in those areas, GMA has launched various initiatives to support the effort. Among those initiatives is the pioneering Kapuso Kabarangay project. Since last year, GMA stations in Cebu, Davao and Iloilo have been regularly visiting different barangays, providing entertainment and more to local communities.

The regular GMA activity must have been creating significant impact among local residents that the Network's biggest rival began to hold similar events in the same areas.

ABS-CBN has been claiming dominance in ratings in these areas but many are wondering why they resort to merely imitating the initiatives of the Network that lags behind them in ratings in the provinces instead of keeping a full step ahead of their rival by coming up with original concepts.

Recently, ABS-CBN came out with print-ads in provincial dailies, specifically those in Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo, indicating their supposedly higher ratings over GMA. They used the TV diary type of survey conducted by Nielsen in Cebu and Davao, while they cited data from PSRC's survey in Iloilo. Unlike the Mega-Manila surveys where TV meters are used to generate data, the regional surveys are done using the "day-after-recall" method. The method, many research specialists will tell you, is not accurate compared to the TV meter-based survey.

If GMA Network did not commission the TV diary surveys of Nielsen in Cebu and Davao, then could it be true that ABS-CBN commissioned them? If so, doesn't it follow, like during the elections, that the groups that commission the surveys get favorable results?

We also learned that the TV diary survey covered the months of March to May 2006. But what came out in their print ads were only the survey results for the month of April. Where are the March and May results?

Meanwhile in Iloilo, the results of the 1st quarter PSRC survey conducted last March 5 to 11 were recalled and invalidated due to the supposed promotional activities of the networks during the fieldwork week, which favorably affected the outcome. The survey was repeated from April 16-22. The results yielded from the resurvey was tagged "1st Quarter." How can this be when the survey was conducted in April? We all know that April is already in the second quarter.

Also, based on the results of the last quarter 2005 PSRC survey in Iloilo, many GMA programs that used to be in the top 10 dropped several notches in the April survey, which may not be possible in meter-based surveys. Some ABS-CBN programs also posted audience shares as much as 92 percent, which appear to be absurd.

Many are also wondering how important are the audiences outside of Metro Manila for ABS-CBN that it is now focusing their efforts on trying to stave off the gains of GMA-7 in nationwide poll surveys?

Perhaps its existence rests on the provinces as QTV-11 and ABC-5 are slowly eating up on the network's audience share in Mega Manila.

After the very successful turnout in the Philippine Idol Luzon main auditions in which thousands of hopefuls from all walks of life tried out, it is safe to say that American Idol's local counterpart is destined to be big.

The show promises to be so big that even industry giant ABS-CBN seems a bit worried as it has cooked up a new show to go against ABC's Philippine Idol.

ABS-CBN has reportedly postponed the airing of the second season of the reality show Pinoy Big Brother to give way to a new reality show called Pinoy Dream Academy, which has the same format as Idol.

This development only affirms suspicion that ABS-CBN's entertainment group's creative juices have dried up. Now, the network has been reduced to being nothing but a second rate trying hard copycat (with apologies to Lavinia, the antagonist in the movie Bituing Walang Ningning, which is now a soap opera on ABS-CBN). And retrofitting a format of an existing program in other station is, of course, the most despicable act that a network could do if only to try to steal the audience of that show and eventually "kill' it.

FremantleMedia Supervising Producer Sheldon Bailey who recently visited Manila in time for Philippine Idol Luzon main auditions said of ABS-CBN's new reality show, "To me Dream Academy is just Big Brother with music. It started off as Star Academy but it got pulled out, I think, after two series. It was in England for two series as Fame Academy and it was stopped after two seasons. I think it has been sold in around 17 countries while Idol is in 34 territories."

"Idol has a stronger format. In fact, when you look at Star Academy's original show, the one in Dutch, it is very different from what they see now because it actually has taken so many elements from Idol. And what we have here, our three judges, Ryan Cayabyab, Pilita Corrales, and Francis M, know what they are talking about, we have the credibility, we have the authority, we have the respect. You can't beat that," she added.

Philippine Idol is not the only show ABS-CBN is targeting to "kill" as they already launched a copycat show of ABC's Shall We Dance? The Celebrity Dance Challenge.

"The ratings of ABS-CBN's U Can Dance pilot episode didn't affect the ratings of Shall We Dance last Sunday. We are also getting great reviews on our show and we are cooking up something for SWD for the next season. We're keeping things secret from the industry's copycats," Perci Intalan, director for Creative and Entertainment Production declared.

sinusubukan ng ABS na pabanguhin ang kanilang News and Current Affairs Department sa publiko after the great suffer na nakuha nila kay Ms.Susan Roces...kinabukasan no'n, nagbacklash na ang ratings nila lalo na ang primetime. TV Patrol that night suffered about 19% vs. +30% ng 24Oras.

Nababasa ko...na nababasa ng ABS....na ang pagpapalakas muli ng Department na iyon ay balang araw ay magbibigay-daan sa muling pagbuhay ng entertainment division nito.

The risk is there sabi ng iba...pero gaya ng ABS, alam din ng GMA at ng other station ang strategy na ito.

Pero iyon ang last option...i-sacrifice pansamantala ang entertainment division for certain period, mag-give way sa pagbubuo muli ng integridad ng News....presto, pag nag-klik....maganda naman ang balik.

Pag nangyari ito, pustahan tayo, di rin magtatagal ay ibabalik din ng ABS sa late night ang newscast nito.

GMA of course has something to worry about....well, alam na nila siguro iyon besides, they admitted na before na ang trabaho nila ngayon ay i-maintain ang No.1 position nila.

ABS naman has to overtake their rival, once again....

or worse, baka ang ABC5 na!?!

Yup, kelangan natin ang news sa araw-araw. Ako aminado dun. Pero, iba ang lifestyle ng mga Pinoy tv viewers sa mga foreigner.

Pero, hindi ba't may 5:30pm, 6pm, 9:30pm at 10pm na newscast both sa UHF at VHF channels natin?

Depende pa rin ata ang lahat nang ito sa mayorya ng manonood kung dagsa na ba sila sa bahay ng 5:30pm, 6pm, 6:30pm?

Depende pa rin ba ang lahat nang ito kung uso pa rin sa panahong ito ang pagtulog ng pinoy on or before 9:30pm, 10pm at 10:30pm?

O depende ba ito kung may gising nang 11:30pm?

O depende ba ito kung ayaw na ng mga pinoy sa soap ng 10:30pm at sa halip ay news?

O depende ba ito kung umaasa pa rin ang pinoy sa radyo for news sa umaga? o sa morning tv shows na may news element din?

Kung ang ibang dayuhan ay mahilig sa plain at conventional na talk show, tayo, kelangan pa ng may sasayaw o kakanta para di ma-bored sa pinanonood.

Bakit ba nagklik ang SIS [although ayoko sya dahil madalas wala kwenta ang topic] kumpara sa Homeboy?

SIS ay talk show na may sayaw, kanta at gimik while HB ay simpleng "usap tayo" drama.

Pero, napwersa ang HB na magdagdag ng sayaw, kanta at gimik din...di nga lang gaanong ka-festive compared to SIS.

See? Ma-starstruck ba masyado ang mga Pinoy? Masisisi mo ba sila...kami..tayo?

Isa lang ang punto rito, nagbago na ba at magbabago pa ba ang lifestyle ng mga Pinoy?

I think maganda naman yung startegy ng ABS-CBN na ilagay yung late-night news sa 10:30 pm timeslot kasi they have the responsibility to the people na mag-deliver ng news para malaman ng mga tao ang mga nangyayari sa bansa natin. The 6:00 news program are intended for the students and sa mga taong maagang umuwi pati na rin sa mga housewives at may mga trabaho sa gabi. Then the 10:30 pm newscast are for those sa mga may trabaho sa umaga na late ng dumarating sa bahay at di naabutan yung TV Patrol. Mabuti na rin naman na nalalaman natin yung mga balita kaysa puro na lang drama at comedy napapanood natin sa gabi. The early evening and late night programs are not enough, kailangan din ng audience mapanood yung mga news and current affairs program like SOCO, The Correspondents to name a few by 11:00.

Definitely, there will be a lot of changes sa entertainment programs nila. Nag-start na yung MMK taking the 9:30 time slot last Friday. Maaaring susunod na rin yung mga ibang comedy and drama shows sa 9:30 slot once Bandila starts on July 3. There are a lot of new shows na ila-launch ng ABS-CBN na pwedeng ilagay sa 9:30.

Sa daily local and korean series, I think na baka di lahat ng mga yun ay maipapalabas na daily kasi loaded na yung primetime kung ang matitira na time sa mga series ay 2.5 hours lang. Expect some changes starting July.

with regards to the re programing, programs on their new time slots, it's abt time the 2 rival channels take into consideration of the kind of lifestyle the pinoys have. unconsciously, media is trying to dictate on us what kind of activities we should observe during the night time and it's not too healthy for the students and ofc workers to be spending long hours on tv. our next day activities suffer intensely. this time i would say good move on abs.

gma7 used to air the news as early as possible and abs would always follow suit to fight gma7 for the ratings. if gma7 news was at 5:30pm so abs too. but since ofc workers and students would only get home by 6, they simultaneously aired it at 6 and probably bec of the hype of the asian novelas, airing starts now at 6:30. i hope this time gma7 follows the abs programming para masaya pa rin ang tapatan.

FOR weeks now, the new telenovela, “Bituing Walang Ningning,” has been trying to transform teen singer Sarah Geronimo and comedienne AiAi delas Alas into believable and empathetic dramatic actresses. To date, however, the show has been unsuccessful in its earnest endeavor, so it might be instructive to figure out why.

Basically, good dramatic performance should be felt, insightful, perceptively emotional, and naturally expressive. AiAi doesn’t do too badly in some of these areas, because she knows how to pare away distracting fripperies, and get to the core of her character, and the scene at hand.

Her problem, however, is that her dramatic persona is simply not as interesting and textured as her comedic side. So, we wonder why she’s bothered to change her performance “attack.”

Sure, the thespic challenge is there, and it’s good to do something new, but if the resulting performance isn’t particularly memorable, it doesn’t seem to be worth the major change of pace, does it?

The bottom line is: AiAi is uniquely effective as a comedienne, so her dramatic performance should at least be similarly arresting. On “Bituing Walang Ningning,” however, her thespic paring down has resulted in a merely correct portrayal—and that simply isn’t good enough.

To be sure, the melodramatic nature of TV soaps contributes to the problem, since it prevents most performers from coming up with truly deep and intense characterizations.

So, if AiAi wants to impress viewers with her ability to do dramatic scenes, she shouldn’t do so in a soap, but in a dramatic film, where greater depth and texture are more achievable.

As for Sarah Geronimo, her problem is that she’s too unformed to come up with an insightful portrayal this early in her thespic career. Not all the highlighting and underscoring in the world can imbue their performance with genuine insight and excitement.

Sarah is a dutiful performer, but there’s much more to good acting than following instructions. In fact, the best actors are those who know the characters they’re playing so well that they can go out on a limb, taking risks that pay off because they understand their roles so completely.

This, Sarah doesn’t have, so she tends to play it ingratiating and cute, and to push her emotions, thus resulting in an artificial and predictable portrayal.

This is a pity, since her character is the telenovela’s linchpin. As a result, we can appreciate the series’ plot and character development in abstraction, but not as a flesh-and-blood experience that can truly move us. Now, that’s a major deficiency, and Sarah must dig deeper to make up for it.

hello rcis! i was a fan of sarah g when she won that singing competition. i would never want her to become unsuccessful in all her endeavors. but since she made that princess sarah parang nawalan na rin ako ng gana sa kanya. but from time to time, i monitor her career. siguro nga ung mga tao sa paligid nya ang may diperenxa. bad air easily came fast into their heads, even faster than sarah herself. well, i wish her luck. and of course, ur station. peace.:)

The bottom line is: AiAi is uniquely effective as a comedienne, so her dramatic performance should at least be similarly arresting. On “Bituing Walang Ningning,” however, her thespic paring down has resulted in a merely correct portrayal—and that simply isn’t good enough.

To be sure, the melodramatic nature of TV soaps contributes to the problem, since it prevents most performers from coming up with truly deep and intense characterizations.

So, if AiAi wants to impress viewers with her ability to do dramatic scenes, she shouldn’t do so in a soap, but in a dramatic film, where greater depth and texture are more achievable.

As for Sarah Geronimo, her problem is that she’s too unformed to come up with an insightful portrayal this early in her thespic career. Not all the highlighting and underscoring in the world can imbue their performance with genuine insight and excitement.

Sarah is a dutiful performer, but there’s much more to good acting than following instructions. In fact, the best actors are those who know the characters they’re playing so well that they can go out on a limb, taking risks that pay off because they understand their roles so completely.

This, Sarah doesn’t have, so she tends to play it ingratiating and cute, and to push her emotions, thus resulting in an artificial and predictable portrayal.

This is a pity, since her character is the telenovela’s linchpin. As a result, we can appreciate the series’ plot and character development in abstraction, but not as a flesh-and-blood experience that can truly move us. Now, that’s a major deficiency, and Sarah must dig deeper to make up for it.

BWN is starting to pick-up audiences and it also shows that advertisers are putting a lot of commercial loads with this show. It only means na may credibility ang show at maganda ang response ng audiences sa kanila. It doesn't necessarily mean na kung maganda ang ratings na umaabot hanggang 40+ ay critically-acclaimed na sya. Maganda ang performance nila Sarah at Ai-ai sa BWN, actually lahat sila. Sa ABS-CBN ka lang talaga makakakita ng mga young stars na ACTORS talaga because they can handle simple scenes and heavy confrontational scenes. Hindi ko man lang nga makita sila Angel Locsin at Richard Gutierrez na talagang umaarte. The ABS-CBN stars are way better than GMA young stars in terms of acting kaya nga nakakaabot na ang ilan sa kanila ng more than ten years sa showbiz considering na madali na magsawa tao ngayon.

30+% may not be as high as cb's rating..pero coming from a 24+ rating on its first few weeks...it only means that they're really beginning to attract new viewers...at least, its a good thing...pataas yung trend nung rating...

I think maganda naman yung startegy ng ABS-CBN na ilagay yung late-night news sa 10:30 pm timeslot kasi they have the responsibility to the people na mag-deliver ng news para malaman ng mga tao ang mga nangyayari sa bansa natin. The 6:00 news program are intended for the students and sa mga taong maagang umuwi pati na rin sa mga housewives at may mga trabaho sa gabi. Then the 10:30 pm newscast are for those sa mga may trabaho sa umaga na late ng dumarating sa bahay at di naabutan yung TV Patrol. Mabuti na rin naman na nalalaman natin yung mga balita kaysa puro na lang drama at comedy napapanood natin sa gabi. The early evening and late night programs are not enough, kailangan din ng audience mapanood yung mga news and current affairs program like SOCO, The Correspondents to name a few by 11:00.

Definitely, there will be a lot of changes sa entertainment programs nila. Nag-start na yung MMK taking the 9:30 time slot last Friday. Maaaring susunod na rin yung mga ibang comedy and drama shows sa 9:30 slot once Bandila starts on July 3. There are a lot of new shows na ila-launch ng ABS-CBN na pwedeng ilagay sa 9:30.

Sa daily local and korean series, I think na baka di lahat ng mga yun ay maipapalabas na daily kasi loaded na yung primetime kung ang matitira na time sa mga series ay 2.5 hours lang. Expect some changes starting July.

in fairness sa Kapuso network, matagal na nilang forte ang news and public affairs....at nagbunga nga ito ngayon-ngayon lang...ang maani na ang higit na tiwala mula sa publiko.

at ang matutukan din ang entertainment side naman ng GMA.

kaya hindi pwedeng sabihin na ang ABS-cbn lang ngayon ang 'nakikinig' at 'sumasagot' sa panawagang ito ng nakararami na maging mature daw ang mga pinoy tv viewers.

but no doubt, abs will roughly take wild turns and twists....for supremecy...good luck...

What is important now is ABS-CBN is learning from that mistakes and moving forward with all of the things that are left with them and not the things that were gone from them. It is really a difficult time for ABS-CBN nowadays but they have become thankful kuna ano yung mga blessings na nakukuha nila ngayon. It is true that you are not always on the top and they have already realized that na hindi nila panahon ngayon. Masaya na sila sa mga loyal viewers nila ngayon. Nagpa-party pa nga daw yung staff ng SPM lat weekend kasi nakakuha sila ng 32% last Thursday. It only shows that they are celebrating because there are still a lot of viewers na nanonood pa rin sa kanila sa Mega Manila despite the fact na di na sila Number 1 sa Mega Manila. Kumbaga, kung talo man sila for more than 2 years now, di naman sila iniwan na sobrang kawawa pagdating sa ratings because a strong number of audiences are still watching them and advertisers are putting a lot of commercials in their shows.

Nagre-rely sa survey yung advertisers pero di lang yung mismong number na yun ang binabasa nila dahil nagre-refer sila sa breakdown ng statistics kung sino yung mga audiences ng isang show. Depende pa rin sa produkto kung saang show sila mag-advertise at kung sino yung audience ng show na yun na bumibili ng produkto nila. Actually, this year malaki na ang improvement sa commercial loads ng ABS-CBN shows as compared to last year na ang nage-exceed lang sa commercial loads ay PBB. But now, napapansin ko na rin na loaded na yung commercials sa daily primetime shows nila especially SPM, BWN and My Girl kung saan ay may pop-up pa ng ads within the show.

i read a post in pex that the 2 knovelas will be shown alternately on primetime. so bale m-w and t-thu and sched na bawat knovela.

it will be followed by their comedy shows ... then bandila.

calla lily will start at 5:30 followed by tvpw at 6pm.

excuse me. if i just may ask ... are u a mass com stude or in anyway connected with the craft/industry? sorry po, kasi the way u posted abt angel and richard's acting, u seemed to know the elements of acting/directing per se. if u are credible enough, i will definitely believe u and of course, will definitely stand by ur observation that only abs has the credible artists. ooppsss ... don't get me wrong. just asking lang po. bec there is a difference between having an opinion and bearing a first-hand experience/skills.

yup i am involved in theater acting and i am also a coach in a talent workshop but not in ABS-CBN. One thing I noticed kasi sa mga karamihan ng young stars ngayon is that hindi talent ang nagiging dahilan ng pagsikat nila but good looks. Kaya ko nacriticize yung acting nila Angel at Richard kasi pangatlo na nilang series yung pinapalabas ngayon pero ganun pa rin yung performance nila sa pag-arte, walang pinagbago, too lame. Judy Ann and Claudine had their flaws in acting ten years ago in their drama series but they have developed their acting skills as the series goes on and look where are they now, receiving acting awards. Di ba last year sila Judy Ann at Claudine yung magkalaban lagi sa Best Actress Award at pinaghatian pa nila yung mga award-giving bodies because both of them got 2 awards last year. Anyway, GMA has Dennis Trillo whom I think is very good.

Sa issue ng ratings, talagang nagre-rely dyan ang mga advertisers pero depende pa rin sa audiencesng show kung saan sila maglalagay ng ads. Kagaya nga ng sabi ng isa rito na ang mga audiences ng BWN ay mga mature audience at babae, duon maglalagay ng ads yung mga sabong panlaba, shampoo, toyo, suka, canned goods at iba pang produkto binibili ng audience sa show na yun kaya kung mapapansin mo maraming ganung mga produkto ang nag-aadvertise kung drama series yung palabas. Sa mga fantaserye naman, mostly mga kabataan audience so duon mostly advertise yung mga hotdogs, canned goods, sodas, mga damit, produktong pampaganda at mga basic necessities ng mga kabataan.

10 years ago ... or more accurately, over 3 years ago, ang basis ng rating sa megamanila was close to 2000 households ... and abs was lording over these 2000 households at that time ...

now ... or for the past 3 years, 750 metered tv sets na lang ang basis ... and for these same years, gma is lording over these 750 metered households in megamanila.

i think major advertisers now are smart enough not to give much weight on the overnight ratings as evidenced by their continued patronage of abscbn shows despite what the megamla overnight ratings show.
