Meet the Teen PBB housemates

The new Pinoy Big Brother housemates for its teen edition are showbiz material, judging from their looks and the way they project on the small screen. Most of them come from reputable schools like Ateneo, Assumption and Colegio de San Agustin.

This batch is ABS-CBN’s answer to young talents who transferred networks or opted for co-management. The new housemates could give ABS-CBN’s teen idols a run of their money.

The housemates were chosen from over 300,000 teenaged applicants from the nationwide preliminary auditions where the show’s Business Unit Head Laurenti Dyogi personally hand-picked the present batch.

The guy believed to be Kuya, himself doused cold water over the rumors, preferring not to be visible these days to prove his point.

Dyogi has distanced himself from interviews or promos of the auditions, which has produced eight housemates from Metro Manila, three from Davao and one from Cebu. Their identities were revealed in a party cum show last Sunday with new hosts Mariel Rodriguez (in charge of the primetime telecast) and PBB Celebrity Edition runner-up Bianca Gonzalez (Uplate and Update).

The teen housemates will be grounded for six weeks with tasks to fulfill every day and every week. On June 3, the new winner will emerge and take home a P1-M grand prize.

So let’s roll the red carpet and meet the teen housemates one by one:

• Gerald Anderson, 17, is an American boy from General Santos. He is your typical boy-next-door who loves basketball. He considers the sport his life and passion. As PBB housemate, he hopes to learn all the house chores Kuya will give him. His edge over the others, says Gerald, is his being true to himself.

•Niña Atienza, 17, comes from Assumption Convent. A dead-ringer for Iya Villania, Niña describes herself as one who is sosyal outside but jologs inside. According to her, she joined PBB for two reasons: to help her family’s finances and prove something for herself.

• Mikee Lee, 16, is an Atenean. He not only has good looks, but the brains to match. The guy is a geek. His grade in Math is 99. The bemedalled student ranks fourth in his class and values education and family a lot.

• Kim Chiu, 16, is a Cebuana. She joined the reality show to help her family and be discovered as an actress. She acts, sings and dances.

•Bam Romana, 16, is the house clown. A Centro Escolar University student, Bam is playful and loves to crack jokes. Aside from winning, his mission is make his housemates and Kuya laugh and laugh.

• Olyn Membian, 16, is a gimikera. This fashionista loves to live it up. She is also into singing, dancing and acting.

Meet the Teen PBB housemates

The new Pinoy Big Brother housemates for its teen edition are showbiz material, judging from their looks and the way they project on the small screen. Most of them come from reputable schools like Ateneo, Assumption and Colegio de San Agustin.

This batch is ABS-CBN’s answer to young talents who transferred networks or opted for co-management. The new housemates could give ABS-CBN’s teen idols a run of their money.

The housemates were chosen from over 300,000 teenaged applicants from the nationwide preliminary auditions where the show’s Business Unit Head Laurenti Dyogi personally hand-picked the present batch.

The guy believed to be Kuya, himself doused cold water over the rumors, preferring not to be visible these days to prove his point.

Dyogi has distanced himself from interviews or promos of the auditions, which has produced eight housemates from Metro Manila, three from Davao and one from Cebu. Their identities were revealed in a party cum show last Sunday with new hosts Mariel Rodriguez (in charge of the primetime telecast) and PBB Celebrity Edition runner-up Bianca Gonzalez (Uplate and Update).

The teen housemates will be grounded for six weeks with tasks to fulfill every day and every week. On June 3, the new winner will emerge and take home a P1-M grand prize.

So let’s roll the red carpet and meet the teen housemates one by one:

• Gerald Anderson, 17, is an American boy from General Santos. He is your typical boy-next-door who loves basketball. He considers the sport his life and passion. As PBB housemate, he hopes to learn all the house chores Kuya will give him. His edge over the others, says Gerald, is his being true to himself.

•Niña Atienza, 17, comes from Assumption Convent. A dead-ringer for Iya Villania, Niña describes herself as one who is sosyal outside but jologs inside. According to her, she joined PBB for two reasons: to help her family’s finances and prove something for herself.

• Mikee Lee, 16, is an Atenean. He not only has good looks, but the brains to match. The guy is a geek. His grade in Math is 99. The bemedalled student ranks fourth in his class and values education and family a lot.

• Kim Chiu, 16, is a Cebuana. She joined the reality show to help her family and be discovered as an actress. She acts, sings and dances.

•Bam Romana, 16, is the house clown. A Centro Escolar University student, Bam is playful and loves to crack jokes. Aside from winning, his mission is make his housemates and Kuya laugh and laugh.

• Olyn Membian, 16, is a gimikera. This fashionista loves to live it up. She is also into singing, dancing and acting.

Vilma finally on Maalaala

"She’s a winner!" said Charo Santos-Concio, host of the unbeatable top-rated drama series Maalaala Mo Kaya (Thursday nights on ABS-CBN). "She’ll beat them all in the awards race."

Charo was talking about Vilma Santos’ landmark performance in Regalo, the two-part 15th-anniversary presentation of Maalaala airing on May 4 and 11, in which Vilma plays Daisy Hernandez in a real-life drama about a devoted wife and a dedicated mother with a special child.

It was easy to believe Charo especially when the trailer of Regalo was shown at yesterday’s lunch presscon announcing the special which took one year (not two years as reports have it) to shoot, no thanks to the conflicting schedules of Vilma and Olive Lamasan who directed it.

From that trailer, I can’t but agree with Charo that Vilma is a winner – all the way! – even in that scene alone showing Vilma prodding her dying special child (portrayed by newcomer Maja Salvador, daughter of Ross Rival) to come on, breathe along with me...don’t die on me!...hugging Maja close to her chest in a vain refusal to, you know, let her go.

It’s a vintage Vilma Santos performance, packed full with so much emotion that perhaps only the stone-hearted won’t be moved, especially in the succeeding scene where, hesitantly resigning to her daughter’s final farewell, Vilma delivers the clinching dialogue: Bakit kapag ang asawa ay namatayan ng asawa, ang tawag sa kanila balo o kaya ay biyudo o biyuda? Kapag naman namatayan ng ama o ina ang isang anak, ang tawag sa kanya ay ulila. Ano naman ang tawag nila sa inang namatayan ng anak?

That scene is absolutely heart-tugging and there’s more of similar scenes in the two-part special for which, according to direk Olive, Daisy Hernandez herself (a native of Lipa City where Vilma is the mayor on her third and last term) wrote some of the dialogues in the story that Vilma herself chose as possible movie material (but, said Vilma, "no regrets that it ended up a Maalaala special").

Regalo (with Ricky Davao as Vilma’s husband) is the 777th episode of Maalaala which has lasted longer than the ABS-CBN executive (now retired) who, 15 years ago when Charo broached the idea of hosting the drama series, told her, "Wala kang alam sa telebisyon; ang alam mo lang ay pelikula."

Before moving to ABS-CBN where she’s now executive vice president and channel head, Charo worked with Regal Films and then put up her own movie production (Vision Films) which produced some of local movies’ most memorable dramas, one of them the Vilma Santos starrer Kapag Langit ang Humatol directed by Laurice Guillen.

Since its first episode (directed by Maning Borlaza), Maalaala has served as breeding ground for most of today’s finest young directors led by Olive Lamasan herself and including Mac Alejandre, Wenn Deramas, Rory Quintos, Gilbert Perez, Laurenti Dyogi, Erick Reyes and Jerry Sineneng.

The good news is that before the year ends, Olive might direct Vilma in a movie to be produced by Star Cinema.

"Olive was supposed to do a movie with Sharon (Cuneta)," said Vilma, "but Sharon is giving way to me." (Sharon has settled for another director.) "Sharon jokingly told Olive, ‘Kung hindi lang ako Vilmanian, lagot ka sa akin’."

I think the answer is Foreign is always last. Kung ipapalabas ang WL ng maaga baka i think after that ay ma-iitsapwera ang mga local shows tulad ng Gulong ng Palad, Sa Piling Mo, Panday o PBB TEEN EDITION. Ginagawa iyan upang hindi malugi i think. Kung ang isang foreign show ipapalabs ng late well mabuti dahil mayroon pang manonood sa local shows na naghihintay. Nasagutan ko na ba ang inyog katanungan. I think that is the answer.

Grabeh naman ngunit parang may question ako. Bakit mas mataas ang Wonderful Life noong Martes rito. Kasi sabi ng kabilang forum na mas mataas ang ratings ng Jewel in the Palace. Ang ratings doon sa Wonderful Life doon noong Tuesday ay 17.9 habang ang JITP ay 34.0? AGB NMR naman doon Tanong ko lang eh. Ano ba talaga kuya?

MABIBILANG sa daliri ang mga artista ng GMA 7 na dumalo sa 36th Entertainment Box-Office Awards na ginanap sa RCBC Plaza noong Linggo ng gabi. Palabas sa ABS-CBN ang nabanggit na event kaya madaling maipaliwanag ang no-show ng mga Kapuso star na pararangalan ng Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Kapamilya star si Kristine Hermosa pero hindi nito sinipot ang awards night ng GMMSF. Humihingi ng paliwanag mula kay Kristine ang kanyang mga tagahanga na nagpunta sa RCBC Plaza para makita siya ng personal pero nadismaya dahil hindi dumating ang aktres na pinarangalan ng 2005 Box-Office Queen title.

Ito ang email ni Mae Veloso, isang die-hard Kristine fan na hindi nagsasawa sa pagtatanggol sa kanyang idolo:

Apparently we heard that she was sick (as attested by Diet’s ktext - is he now her spokesperson?) reason why she did not appear in ASAP.

But the day before the event, a Saturday, this was what she sent in her ktext:

Kristine: hi! Lyt day 2day, ASAP recording lang. 29-Apr-06 2:36pm.

Kristine: hey! Hope u get to watch ASAP tom. Kain ka na ng dinner. 29-Apr-06 6:16pm.

With these ktexts alone, there was never a trace of an impending illness. Then on the Sunday itself, her ktext is on a silent mode.

It’s very unlikely for Kristine and out of character (who has been very professional since day one) to just ignore this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Did something or somebody prevent her from attending?

I remember during the premier night of Becuz of U, she was hospitalized but then she managed to appear at the premier coz she didn’t want to miss the opportunity of thanking her fans and supporters.

Fans and supporters were there at the venue of BOQ to witness the coronation but to their dismay no Kristine Hermosa showed up and not even an explanation was heard.

A video or an audio message or even a ktext could have saved the day.

Just to let you know how we have been supporting her, last Christmas, one of our friends in a plush village in Manila gave out Christmas presents to their whole barangay just to watch Enteng Kabisote 2. Isn’t that a fete alone?

We know Kristine deserves that award and we never questioned the credibility of the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards committee with their choices.

Awards slated on March 19



The stage is set for the Box-Office Entertainment Awards, formerly the Box-office King and Queen Awards annually presented by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Inc. The 36th Grand Annual Awards and Coronation Night will be held on March 19 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of RCBC Plaza along Ayala Ave., Makati City.

This was announced by Mrs. Corazon M. Samaneigo, president and over-all chairman of the GMMSFI. She also announced that this year’s chairperson is Mrs. Gloria Y. Lazaro, president of the Bocaue For Progress Movement.

To be crowned Box-office King and Queen of RP Movies are Vic Sotto and Kristine Hermosa.

Lastly on EL, funny a few years ago it was the same spot occupied by MG but now if tama nga yung ratings ng EL 5% lng :eek: Just maybe its time for ABS na maghanap ng another Freddie Garcia dahil obviously they are at a lost at the moment :rolleyes:

MATAPOS ang isang megahit na first season, hahataw na naman ang Komiks para sa kanilang second season. At siyempre, sino pa ba ang karapat-dapat na maging season opener, kundi si Judy Ann Santos, para sa episode na Inday Sa Balitaw.

Ay naku, suki na nga yata talaga si Juday ng Komiks. Imagine, dalawang episodes na agad ang lalabasan niya ngayong second season, ha!

Of course, it goes without saying na suwerte rin talaga ang Komiks kay Juday. At walang puwedeng tumutol doon, ‘no! Dahil nasa winning streak naman talaga ang alaga ko ngayon.

Sobrang saya nga ang Dos dahil mega-success ang Sa Piling Mo nila ni Papa Piolo Pascual. Ito talaga ang totoong monster hit sa ratings, ‘no!

Pero back to Komiks muna tayo, na kung sa akala ninyo ay matindi na ang unang season ng hit anthology na ito ng ABS-CBN, tiyak na masisilaw kayo sa second season ng Komiks. Eh kasi, mas malalaki ang stars dito, at mas kagigiliwan talaga ang mga kuwento nila, ‘no!

Maliban po kay Juday, makakasama na rin ang iba pang stars ng Dos na sina Kristine Hermosa, Diether Ocampo, Angelika dela Cruz, Dominic Ochoa, Jodi Santamaria-Lacson, Nan-cy Castiglione, Patrick Garcia, Maja Salvador, Aubrey Miles, Troy Montero, Gloria Romero, Alma Moreno, at Chin Chin Gutierrez.

Kabilang naman sa mga director sa season 2 sina Johnny Manahan, Jerry Sineneng, Erick Salud, Jerome Pobocan, FM Reyes at Dondon Santos.

Siyanga pala, hindi basta-basta kuwento lang ang aapiran ni Juday sa paggi-guest niya sa Komiks. Ang unang episode nga ni Juday, na magbubukas ng season 2 ng Komiks, ay ang Inday sa Balitaw ni Pablo S. Gomez, na pinasikat din sa isang pelikula noon ng Diamond Star na si Maricel Soriano.

Kasama rito ni Juday sina Alma Moreno, Malou de Guzman, Ces Quesada, Matt Ranillo, at Nash Aguas, mula sa direksiyon ni Erick Salud.

Later in the season naman ay mapapanood ang ikalawang episode ni Juday, ang Super Gee. Base naman ito sa nobela ni Zoila na ginawang pelikula rin with Nora Aunor noong 1970s.

Anyway, dapat ding abangan ang mga upcoming episode ng Komiks. Nandiyan sina Angelika dela Cruz, Dominic Ochoa at Nancy Castiglione sa kuwento ni Vic Poblete, ang Lighting Roda.

Sina Patrick Garcia, Maja Salvador at Gloria Romero naman ang magsasama-sama sa kuwento ni Elena Patron na Momay, na dinirek ni Jerome Pobocan.

Sina Aubrey Miles at Troy Montero naman ang mga bida sa kuwento ni Pablo S. Gomez, ang Babaeng Pusa, na dinirek ni FM Reyes.

Nagsama naman sina Jodi Santamaria-Lacson at Chin Chin Gutierrez sa kuwento ni Zoila, ang Valentina, na dinirek ni Dondon Santos.

Ang real life sweethearts naman na sina Kristine Hermosa at Dither Ocampo ang magkasama sa kuwento uli ni Pablo S. Gomez, ang Bahay ng Lagim, na dinirek ni FM Reyes.

So, bongga talaga ang Komiks, ha!

Nora, looking forward sa 'Aswang...' with Juday

At first, we thought Aswang in San Francisco is just a product of an imaginative mind to keep news about the beleaguered Nora Aunor going.

But then we met Albert Sunga, an ICON officer at Kaffe Carabana, Judy Ann’s place managed by Mommy Carol, over the weekend. Albert was waiting for Ka Alfie to discuss specifics on Fiesta Filipino in the East Coast in August when Juday will be the special celebrity guest.

Alfred who is a ranking ICON (Noranians on line) reminds us that Nora Aunor was the celebrity guest in Fiesta Filipino in 2004 in the East Coast, in New Jersey.

Last year, it was Vilma Santos who was their celebrity guest.

And this year, Judy Ann Santos will be their celebrity guest on August 18 and 19 in New Jersey.

If Judy Ann would be free a few more days, she would include the filming of the movie Aswang in San Francisco, with Nora playing the title role.

Incidentally, some years back, Nora and Juday made Babae for Premier Productions, which was among the official entries in the Metro Manila Film Festival.

In spite of the brushes with the law in America, Nora has already made two films in the US.

In fact, the first Carehome, directed by Suzette Ranillo had its successful premiere night in San Francisco last April 23.

Nora has finally completed the movie she later did for Bernardo C. Bernardo’s first directorial job, Bea.

She has been telling friends lately that she is looking forward to making Aswang in San Francisco with Juday. This will be her biggest film project here so far and will be financed by prominent Pinoys in the US.

Filming is set for Summer 2006, July and August.

Probably, our films are getting better and better…technically.

After all, our actors and our directors, they had been winning awards abroad — Lamberto Avellana, Rogelio de la Rosa, Rosa Rosal, Leroy Salvador, Tony Santos sa Asian Film Festival. Lino Brocka winning best film in Spain and UK.

Now our films introduce our filmmakers and actors as well as our country to the world.

And the victory parade for our films continues month after month, after month.

April has the most haul.

In late April, Turin gave us two awards: Best film for Maximo and Audience Prize for Masahista.

In the festivals in Europe and the America, filmmakers Auraeus Solito (Maximo) and Dante Mendoza (Masahista) are now known.

And recently (April 27) at the 19th Singapore Film Festival, three of the 11 films in competition came from the Philippines — Clodualdo del Mundo Jr.’s Pepot Artista, John Torres’ Todo Todo Teros and Raya Martin’s short film Indio Nacional.

The Philippines won two awards in Singapore: best actor for young Elijah Castillo who played the title role in Pepot Artista and the NETPAC/Critics Award for John’s Todo Todo Teros.Pepot Artista won best picture in 2005 Cinemalaya filmfest where Maximo was the jury prize winner.

John Torres tells a story of an artist who wakes up one day knowing he is a terrorist.

Incidentally, this May (25 to June 14), Masahista and Mga Pusang Gala goes to New York’s Out Fest.
