I felt really bad and shocked upon hearing this news (i felt very sad not only for the people, but also for the station... I used to be a kapamilya)...Just like what you guys said, the event was meant to be happy, not drastic...But it was no one's fault...May this serve as a lesson for the people...please line properly!

61 killed in ULTRA stampede



Sixty-one people were killed in a stampede at ULTRA stadium in Pasig City on Saturday as they lined up to get tickets for the popular gameshow "Wowowee," police and local officials said.

They said the crush at the stadium came when organizers of the first anniversary celebration of the gameshow began handing out tickets to people, many of whom had been camping outside for days.

Some witnesses said chaos erupted when someone in the crowd shouted "bomb," but others said that people surged forward when guards began giving out tickets at around dawn.

Most of the victims were elderly and were crushed against a steel fence at one gate into the stadium.

"We were happy. We only wanted to have fun and then this thing happened," Nimfa Santos said on local radio, adding she had been waiting with a group of women. "I don't know what happened to the others."

Bodies of the victims were lined up on the street outside the stadium, their faces covered with sheets and blankets.

"My mum died," Alberto Herrera said on radio. "Please help me. I don't know what to do."

Dozens of people were hurt. But Pasig Mayor Vicente Eusebio said he did not expect the death toll to rise.

The noontime show "Wowowee" is one of the most-watched in the Philippines, offering large prizes of cash and merchandise.

DZMM also reported that a total of 145 people were hurt during the stampede and are currently confined at the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) in Pasig City.

According to Dr. Tito Marcial of RMC, a total of 10 people are confirmed dead from the stampede in the hospital.

Rescue groups like the Philippine Red Cross have already deployed teams to the area.

A Phillipine Army truck arrived to transport the fatalities to the Arlington Funeral Homes in Pasig City and to the Medical City also in Pasig.

A separate DZMM report said that one of the fatalities was identified as one Belen Comia of Sampaloc, Manila. She was identified through her postal ID.

The Wowowee entertainment group called on all those who have tickets to the show Saturday afternoon and are still at their residences to forego their plans to watch the show, which will be aired as scheduled in the afternoon but as a public service program to help the victims.

Vice-President Noli de Castro arrived at ULTRA around 10:20 a.m. He declined to grant interviews.

De Castro was in his morning show over DZMM when the news of the stampede was first reported in the station.

Revillame takes 1-week leave after Wowowee tragedy
ABS-CBN Wowowee host Willie Revillame on Saturday night said he would take a one-week leave in the wake of the stampede at the Philsports arena (formerly ULTRA) that killed 79 people.

In an interview with TV Patrol World, Revillame said he is still in shock after the supposedly grand celebration turned into a tragic day for most of the gameshow's fans.

Revillame said he would use the one weak leave of absence to personally condole with families of the victims.

He, however, said that Wowowee will still be aired on its regular time slot over ABS-CBN channel regardless of the accident.

"Personal ko pong desisyon 'to. Nakiusap po ako sa ABS-CBN. Hindi ko po kayang magprograma, gusto ko pong makiramay at makisama sa kanila sa pagburol ng kanilang mga mahal sa buhay sa buong linggong ito (This is my decision. I appealed to ABS-CBN. I cannot host the program, I want to condole with families of those who lost their loved ones and to be with them this week), " Revillame said.

Revillame thanked his fans for the understanding. He said he becomes more emotional every time people would say, "Willie, wala kang kasalanan (It's not your fault, Willie)."

The Wowowee host assured stampede victims that he would exhaust all means to provide the necessary help.

DILG invites Wowowee organizers
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday invited the organizers of the popular noontime gameshow Wowowee to shed light on the Philsports Arena stampede that killed scores of people and injured over 300 others, DZMM reported.

Interior Undersecretary for Public Safety Marius Corpus issued the subpoena inviting ABS-CBN executive vice-president for entertainment Charo Santos-Concio, Wowowee host Willie Revillame and the organizers of the show to explain their side regarding the case.

The initial investigation will start Sunday afternoon at the DILG headquarters.

In an interview with Ina Reformina of ABS-CBN News last night, aired over the extended Saturday edition of "TV Patrol World", distraught "Wowowee" host Willie Revillame urged both sides of the warring ABS and GMA viewership to cast ratings talk aside and get together for the sake of those whose lives were lost in a stampede at the ULTRA yesterday morning.

Revillame, still in tears, urged the peace pipe on some perpetually warring Kapamilyas and Kapusos, by saying that ratings is not his goal in hosting the show. According to him, ratings are just numbers. It can change from time to time. But nothing he says, beats the togetherness and of the Filipino being as one in times of tragedies such as this.

Revillame, himself involved with controversies in the past, couldn't swallow the fact that his supposed 1st anniversary celebration of the noontime game show have claimed 79 lives and injured 300+ others. In the afternoon, he repeatedly called for understanding to the audience who are already inside the ULTRA, for not pushing through with the special.

The incident also proved that the TV host really has a heart for the poor Filipino masses. Although some people see that rather than staging the special for a later date, he should instead totally donate the cash prizes to the families of the victims. ABS-CBN chief for Entertainment Ms. Charo Santos-Concio, has announced for just a postponement of the special, with a new date to be announced later.

Revillame also announced his intention to take a hosting leave from "Wowowee" for a week, which TV Patrol quickly clarified by saying that only he and NOT the show, will be gone for that period, in an apparent move to appease crowds that were not affected by the tragedy.

I believe there is a reason why 79 innocent lives were taken that day that involved a TV production of ABS-CBN. Was it karma? As of now, most people, including myself chose to keep mum on that one.

But this is one of those rare times that the Chairman of the Board of ABS itself, Gabby Lopez III, have vowed to the situation and accepted full responsibility in the name of the company for what have happened. What a humbling thought, considering that the Lopez family are now in the thick of controversy for being "hypish", "money-hungry" and "arrogant".

Each time, even in tragedy, ABS-CBN never failed to show its "theatrics", that patented "hype" that they are so well-known for. But this time, when I see these big bosses face the television cameras and accepting inquiries from their fellow media reporters from other companies, all the talk about ratings and competition have been set aside, although I wish that ratings talk between ABS and the closest competitor will end forever, and not just during tragedies like this.

Maawa ba tayo sa mga kagaya ng pamilya Lopez? Actually, its not "awa", but only sympathy. I don't think they needed the "awa" of the masses. You and me, that comprise this "masa" should be given the full "awa". Even with this tragedy, they can still leave the country anytime with all their wealth. They can make faults like you and me, and they said that repeatedly in their presscon last night. I wish some of you have taken note of that.

How I wished Willie didn't gave a statement na hindi ratings ang habol nila sa WOWOWEE but makatulong. If you sincerely want to help people you don't make them travel especially those in provinces all the way to Manila and camp for days and offer them MERE luck. If the show was a success I'm pretty sure ABS would totally be proud and boast what they achieved dahil obvious na history ito sa lahat ng local game shows with a considerable huge amount of prizes and people who won on a single episode of a game show but sad to say that vision didn't materialized. The organizers FAILED to foresee the worse scenario that might occur. What has been done cannot be undone... the ULTRA stampede is a lesson learned for future organizers who would stage events similar to this.

Media especially television is the most powerful medium in influencing people maybe it's time now to use that power in a more deeper way than just merely teaching the majority of the viewers to HOPE and DREAM in alleviating the current condition of their lives by means of pure LUCK on game shows ;)

Hindi kasi ito patag at pababa pa. Kung may madapa, gugulong pa ito.Mas makakatulong daw sana kung may contingency plan ang mga organizers.Ipinagtanggol ng ABS ang naging desisyon nito na ang gate sa javier st. dahil iyon daw ang pinaka-maginhawa at di paikot-ikot bago makarating sa bleachers kahit na palusong iyon at baku-bako.

PANIG NG ULTRA.Wala raw pananagutan ang Philippine Sports Commission sa stampede dahil naka-waive iyon base sa kontrata nito at ng ABS.Iginiit muli ng PSC na ligtas ang ultra na pagdausan ng anumang malalaking event. Ngayon lang daw nangyari na naganap ang stampede kung saan marami ang namatay. Hindi madulas ang daan kung saan nangyari ang stampede dahil rough daw yung daan na iyon. Maayos din daw sana ang takbo ng show kung ipinamigay na nang maaga ang mga ticket sa mga tao bago pa ang actual na palabas sa ultra.Para naman sa NBI na maaring ligtas sa civil liability ang Ultra dahil sa kontrata pero may pananagutan pa rin daw ito criminally kung mapapatunayan sa imbestigasyon na kabahagi sila ng pagkakamali sa stampede.Dagdag pa ng mga taga-Ultra, inabisuhan na raw nito ang Dos na lampas na sa seating capacity ang bilang ng mga tao na nasa labas ng gusali.

Gagawa raw pala kasi ang ABS ng gimik para sa mga nasa labas ng Ultra.Magbibigay daw ng mga raffle stubs sa mga di makakapasok at bubunot ng 30 na tatanggap ng

PANIG NG PNP.Dumepensa naman ang PNP at hindi daw dapat sila sisihin.Ito ay kahit na sinasabi ng Dos na isang lane lang ng javier street ang area of responsibility nito at ibang lane naman ang sa PNP.Ayon sa EPD, dapat walang boundaries pagdating sa security.Napag-uusapan naman daw at napagpa-planuhan ito, iyon nga lang ay hindi naman daw imbitado ang PNP sa security meetings ng Dos.Bagay na sinasang-ayunan ng fact finding team. Dapat din daw ay may open communication line sa actual day of the event, kung celfon man o radio...ang PNP at ang Dos.

PANIG NG DOS.Hinggil sa paggamit ng LRP gate, ayon sa ABS, madali naman daw iyon daanan kahit na palusong at baku-bako iyon.Sa isyu naman ng seguridad sa kalsada, ayon sa ABS, ang permit daw nila ay hanggang kalahati lang ng kalsada sa javier (yung lane going to shangri-la). Ang panunulak o gitgitan ay mula na sa other half (lane going to c5) at iyon ay dapat sa PNP isisi dahil ito raw ang nakatoka sa nasabing lugar. Muli, iginiit ng security group ng Dos na sapat naman ang kanilang paghahanda at ang isyu lang dito ay sadyang napakarami ng tao, higit-higit pa sa kanilang inaasahan.

Condolences to the people (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=345762#) who lost their loved ones yesterday.



How I wished Willie didn't gave a statement na hindi ratings ang habol nila sa WOWOWEE but makatulong. If you sincerely want to help people you don't make them travel especially those in provinces all the way to Manila and camp for days and offer them MERE luck. If the show was a success I'm pretty sure ABS would totally be proud and boast what they achieved dahil obvious na history ito sa lahat ng local game shows with a considerable huge amount of prizes and people who won on a single episode of a game show but sad to say that vision didn't materialized. The organizers FAILED to foresee the worse scenario that might occur. What has been done cannot be undone... the ULTRA stampede is a lesson learned for future organizers who would stage events similar to this.

Media especially television is the most powerful medium in influencing people maybe it's time now to use that power in a more deeper way than just merely teaching the majority of the viewers to HOPE and DREAM in alleviating the current condition of their lives by means of pure LUCK on game shows ;)

ikalawa, ang pamahalaan ang dapat sisihin kung bakit humantong ang lahat sa stampede?

wala namang pinag-iba ang stampede sa ultra sa paglubog ng barko kung saan ang dahilan ay overloading ng mga pasahero.

so, dapat ba nating sisihin/tignan ang kahirapan pa rin ng tao kung bakit pilit silang pupuslit sa barko kahit walang pasahe?

Gusto ko sanang makisimpatiya rin sa ABS noong una...pero, nahahalata ang kanilang totoong intensyon sa gitna ng malagim na trahedyang ito.

Hindi ako magtataka kung ma-abswelto ang Dos dito.

At kung madidiin man, tiyak may lalabas nang mga kakampi ang Dos sa katauhan na rin ng mga simpatiya mula sa mga viewers at talents ng wowowee at abs.

Bagay na ikatutuwa iyon ng Dos.

Mababaon ang lahat nang ito sa limot.

Kung para sa inyo sapat na ang monetary assistance ng Dos, makadalawang -beses kayong mag-isip bago nyo hamunin ang karma.

di naman sa ayaw na ayaw, di lang talaga maganda yung a love to kill, very complicated mashado, yung napanood ko nga yung episode 1 and 2, di sya ganoon ka kaganda... yung wedding naman, di sya maganda at di sya pangit... pwede na rin, though marami na nga lang bad scene(parental guidance), i've already watch it last year. Princess Lulu naman, yung leading man eh di naman gwapo, and bakit sinasabi ng ABS na Princesa ng koreanovela si Kim Jung Eun? isa nga yun sa worst drama sa korea eh. well yung spring day naman nasayang rin, bakit nga ba kailangan mailagay pa sya sa umaga? then sa white tower, no comment at all... ang gusto ko lang talaga korean dramas.

i think yung iba dyan sa umaga ilalagay..after spring day..

ang advantage lang ng PL, ay sikat dito yung bida, so ma-aattract nito ang viewers, sus malay, ba ng mga tao hindi pla ito nag-rate sa korea..

Nakakapangilabot ang dami ng tao kanina sa baywalk. At nagtiyaga ang mga tao. 6pm pa lang halos puno na yung sa may harap ng stage. Akala ko nga aalis ang mga tao. Pero tinapos nila talaga kahit halos mag aalas dose na.

Nakakaiyak ang opening na You Raised Me Up. Kung andun ka at talagang tunay kang kapamilya ay maluluha ka. Nakakaiyak nung nag-aagawan ang mga tao sa pagsisindi ng kandila na gagamitin sa opening prayer. Lahat very cooperative.

Tahimik lang talaga ang mga tao nung umpisa. Nagpapakiramdaman. Pero humanga talaga ako sa kanila sa matiyaga nilang paghihintay at panonood doon. Kahit na nga may nangyari kahapon.

Naku dapat suklian talaga ng ABS-CBN ang ibinibigay na suporta sa kanila ng mga tao.

Wala namang bitterness na mararamdaman o maririnig ka kung andun ka sa baywalk kanina. Basta kani-kaniyang discussion lang ang mga tao kung ano ba talaga ang nangyari. Me mga nagbibiro din. Trademark na yata talaga ng Pinoy ang magbiro kahit sa gitna ng trahedya. pero mas marami ang nagpapaalala sa kanilang mga kasamahan.

Pero ang malaking pagbabago ay halatang natuto na ang mga tao. Maingat na sila at marunong nang makinig. Naku nabuhayan uli ako ng loob pagkagaling ko sa baywalk. Akala ko kasi walang masyadong pupunta dun.



nagulat at natuwa rin ako. and i feel that abs was somewhat vindicated by the sheer volume of people ... they still have the support of the masses.

i havent seen any other tv channel gather that many people in baywalk just to watch a show ... specially so after a tragedy of wowowee's magnitude.

Revillame takes 1-week leave after Wowowee tragedy
ABS-CBN Wowowee host Willie Revillame on Saturday night said he would take a one-week leave in the wake of the stampede at the Philsports arena (formerly ULTRA) that killed 79 people.

In an interview with TV Patrol World, Revillame said he is still in shock after the supposedly grand celebration turned into a tragic day for most of the gameshow's fans.

Revillame said he would use the one weak leave of absence to personally condole with families of the victims.

He, however, said that Wowowee will still be aired on its regular time slot over ABS-CBN channel regardless of the accident.

"Personal ko pong desisyon 'to. Nakiusap po ako sa ABS-CBN. Hindi ko po kayang magprograma, gusto ko pong makiramay at makisama sa kanila sa pagburol ng kanilang mga mahal sa buhay sa buong linggong ito (This is my decision. I appealed to ABS-CBN. I cannot host the program, I want to condole with families of those who lost their loved ones and to be with them this week), " Revillame said.

Revillame thanked his fans for the understanding. He said he becomes more emotional every time people would say, "Willie, wala kang kasalanan (It's not your fault, Willie)."

The Wowowee host assured stampede victims that he would exhaust all means to provide the necessary help.

personally ... and speaking as a kapamilya ... i think, the wowowee show should be scrapped ... not just reformatted. abs should come up with a new show ... if not another game cum entertainment show ... they could consider fielding a knovela or teleserye in this slot para maiba naman ang putahe sa noontime.

If you sincerely want to help people you don't make them travel especially those in provinces all the way to Manila and camp for days and offer them MERE luck. i understand the good intention of the show but not the process. if i got it right, only cash prizes are given, tama ba? abs is succesfully breeding a culture of dependence on, as u said, mere luck. sana abs can study the process how gma's wish ko lang gives prizes to the less fortunates. it's not the cash but a pangkabuhayan. do u think wowowee's winners will make use of their prizes diligently for a long time or will go a long way? how? isn't it abt time that they promote entrepreneurship on these people? not only the winners the program can create consciousness on how to handle the "luck." the program only entices these people to become lazy and dependent on sa awa ng diyos. tsk tsk tsk! The organizers FAILED to foresee the worse scenario that might occur. What has been done cannot be undone... the ULTRA stampede is a lesson learned for future organizers who would stage events similar to this. didn't they get the lesson to what happened in 2003 where the f4 had their concert at the same venue? good thing no one died ... only injuries. they didn't own up the responsibilities, only saying that they were not involved with the production, being only as a media partner of the event producer. ok fine, as u(etx) said walang foresight sa worst case scenario. kelan ba talaga tayo dapat matuto? kailangan ba may malagim munang mangyari before we take extra measures? abs and ultra should have detailed all the contingencies in their planning stage and doubled the force on the day itself.

in accidents like this, there's no one to be blame anyway but the people who were stupid enough to not understand that when its full its FULL...willie is just exspressing his deepest sympathies, and ABS is also doing its part for those people who were injured and perished in the accident...and i dont understand why STUPID people make a freaking joke about just what happened...when other Variety Shows had their 1st year anniversary did they expect it to be big like that?! i mean literally BIG LIKE THAT! ofcourse ABS too and the wowowee did not expect it to be like that BIG! they too were shocked that most people have come...and maybe that GUY/GAY i know in the other network will also criticize what happend on saturday...it will be a miracle if he hadnt commented on it...it was a STAMPEDE...an accident!

Napakalaking trahedya kasi ang naganap! In fact, baka pinakamalaking trahedya na ito sa buong kasaysayan ng game show sa Pilipinas, o kahit sa buong mundo pa.

Magpasalamat na lang tayo at kahit paano ay naunawaan tayo ng ating mga kapamilya na nadamay sa sitwasyon. Although hindi natin mage-generalize na silang lahat ay ganun ang reception. At dapat din nating maunawaan yun. Magpasalamat tayo na karamihan sa kanila ay alam nating nauunawaan ang sitwasyon.

Ang hindi makapagpatawad sa nangyari ay yung mga taong hindi naman kasali sa nasabing insidente. Ang malungkot pa nito ay ginagamit nila ang trahedya para masising mabuti ang ABS at palabasin na kagustuhan nito ang nangyari! Ang mga kaaway ay dapat asahan ng sasamantalahin ang ganitong sitwasyon para pabagsakin ang gumagandang imahe ng ABS sa masang Pilipino.

Samantalang ang mga taong kamag-anakan at kaibigan mismo ng mga naaksidente ay sobrang malungkot sa mga nangyari pero hindi mo kakikitaan ng bitterness. Kahit yung mga survivors, alam nila kung anong nangyari nung araw na yun, kaya natanggap nila ang kinahinatnan ng sitwasyon.

Actually, nakakaiyak ang Homeboy kanina kasi ang mga guests nila ay yung mga kamag-anakan ng mga namatay. Kahit si Richard Gordon ay maluha-luha sa nakakapangilabot at nakakaiyak na kuwento ng mga kamag-anakan ng biktima.

Nakaklungkot isipin yung mga taong andun na Lunes pa lang! Halos isang linggong di kumakain, tapos naipit pa at namatay ng sobra ang gutom at pagod.

Nakakalungkot din ang iba't ibang kuwento ng mga kamag-anakan ng mga biktima!

Yung isa ay hindi pa alam ng 4 na taong gulang na anak nya kung pano sasabihin na ang nanay nito ay patay na.

Yun namang isa, lola na nasawi sa trahedya na nagpaalam pa sa mga anak at apo nya. Yung isang anak nya, binati na agad sya ng Happy Valentine's Day bago pumunta si lola sa Wowowee kasi daw baka hindi na sila magkita kasi yung anak na yun ay natanggap ang application sa ibang bansa. Sumagot daw ang nasawing lola ng salamat at mag-ingat daw.

Nakakalungkot talaga isipin ang mga kababayan natin na sa sobrang kahirapan ng buhay ay halos isang linggong pumila sa Ultra. Puro gutom pa sila at puyat at pagod tapos ay maiipit lang at masasawi sa trahedya.

Sa sobrang lungkot at awa din sa mga biktima ay naisip ko na dapat isara na lang ang Wowowee. Sobra ang galit ko sa Wowowee sa nangyaring trahedya.

Pero ng marinig at mapanood ko na ang mga survivors na mismo at ang kamag-anakan nila ay nagsasabing pagkatapos ng trahedya ay pipila pa ulit sila para magbakasakali, nagbago na din ang isip ko.

Sa sobrang hirap nga ng buhay sa Pilipinas ay naiisip ng iba na tumaya sa lotto, gumawa ng krimen, kung anu-ano pa, para lang mabuhay.

Ano nga ba ang masama kung magkaron ng programa ang ABS na tulad nito na talaga namang nakakapagbigay ng kaginhawahan sa ibang Pilipino kahit panandalian lamang?

Sabihin ng para sa ratings at para kumita ng pera ang objectives ng isang commercial na programa, ano nga ba ang masama kung ang i-target nila ay yung mga masa na extreme ang kahirapan. Eh nakakatulong din naman kahit pano. Kung nage-air ang Wowowee 6 times a week at isang araw eh may 3-4 nanalo ng maliit at malaking papremyo, di ba nakakatuwa na rin isipin?

Kahit pano, sa loob ng isang taon eh napakarami na rin ang matutulungan kahit pa sabihing ratings lang ang habol ng programa tulad ng kine-claim ng iba. Talaga namang nabibigyan ng pagkakataon yung iba lalo na at talagang nanggaling din naman talaga sa wala. Minsan nga, pamsahe na lang wala pa, kay Willie pa talaga personal na nanghihingi.

Di na kata-kataka ang gtanitong sitwasyon lalo na sa bansa natin na sobrang hirap ang pamumuhay. Napakarami naman talagang naghihirap, yung mga sobrang hirap na talagang walang ibang paraan upang kumita na kabuhayan kasi sitwasyon na ang umiipit sa kanila.

grabe! i was deeply sadden dun sa nangyari last saturday sa ultra. i don't think naman na dapat i-blame natin yung wowowee or ang abs dun sa nangyari kasi aksidente yun di ba? we shouldn't also blame the guards kasi they are just doing their job... ayoko naman din sabihin na let's blame the goverment dahil kung hindi cla corrupt di sana may money to help them and people don't need to line up anymore just to join contest like this... i agree w/ an article that i read just today na yung nangyari sa ultra was just a reflection of how hard the life of the people now.

sana lang people... i was able to watch a show kaninang umaga (i wont name the show na lang para ndi na lang mag cause ng away...) and i think two of the reporter was saying something like masyadong madami ring tao ___ (it's an event) pero hindi nagka-stampede... so dito na alng kayo lagi manood ha... napakasama naman na comment non... a lot of people have died naman i don't think ndi naman dapat gawing biro yung nangyari kasi kahit sang angulo mo tingnan kahit na joke cya hindi cya maganda. it's a very unresponsible comment!

as for abs, at least di ba kahit hindi pa nila alam kung ilan talaga yung nasugat & namatay they immediately extended their hands na agad to help those who needs it.

last thing, let's just pray for those who died and that their families immediately accept that the tragedy happened because it's God's will and that He has a purpose kung bakit cya nangyari.

i heard sa news na sinabi nun guard na ultra na un pababa o pabulusok na daan sa ultra ay hindi dapat pinadadaanan sa tao dahil daanan un na sasakyan..
let me share my experience in ultra... nanood kami na f4(vaness and ken) concert dyan before.

1.mahilig talga ang mga gwardya na yan na sabihin sa tao na pumila lang na isa at un lang ang papasukin kahit nakikita na nila na sobra dami na nang tao... at di na makagalaw.

2. nagpapasok na tao sa football area na ultra na 4pm kung kailan umabot na nang milya milya ang tao.(umuulan pa noon)

3. one gate lang ang binuksan nila sa dami na tao , haler ! halo halo na tao sa ibat iba prizes na tiket.

4. at un pabulusok na daan doon kami dumaan , all of us..(buti may kasama ako)nakakatakot talaga!

--no way to blame abs and wowowee...im blaming the structure of ultra at mga iba ultra guards.. thats it!!!!

if you really wanted honest to goodness facts on the incident, sana nakikinig ka sa full coverage ng fact finding investigation sa anc.

actually, dalawa yung venues ng wowowee sa ultra ... the covered arena (9,000 seating capacity), and the football stadium (9,000 bleachers capacity) where the accident happened. the ultra mgnt didnt allow the use of the football grounds coz they were protecting the tracks. supposedly 5am dapat magbubukas ... sabay. but the ultra guard were still not ready to open at that time dahil nagbibigay pa ng last minute instructions yung head nila. so the gates opened before 6am. yung sa covered arena walang naging problema kahit mas marami raw tao na nakapila dun kaya tuloy tuloy lang ang pasok ng tao dun without them knowing na may problema na sa stadium area. dun naman sa stadium area, around 2000 na raw ang nakapasok bago nangyari ang stampede.

i think may negligence talaga na nangyari ... and the ff should share responsibility:

1- abs event organizers should have gotten a bigger venue ... if hindi available ang araneta dapat open space ang kinuha nila (tho i think they considered the weather)
2- abs security for not having a well-coordinated contingency plan
3- ultra mgnt/security, also for not having a well-coordinated contingency plan
4- pasig govt for issuing a permit knowing na ang estimated crowd (as submitted by abs) na 25000-30000 is bigger than what the venue could accomodate
5- pasig police for not doing its job. nakikita na nilang nagkakagulo kailangan pa ba silang sabihan na tumulong na sila.
6- pasig fire dept- bakit wala sila dun considering na kasama sila sa binigyan ng directive ng pasig govt na umalalay sa event

and hirap sa ultra n pasig govt dinidiin nila ang abs ... hugas kamay sila dahil pagkatapos ng nangyari wala na silang ginawa. on the other hand, abs mgnt has assumed full responsibility in shouldering all the expenses of the victims even before an investigation was conducted ... in fact, early saturday pa lang humarap na sa tao ang mga abs execs including gabby lopez to assure the victims na hindi sila pababayaan ...

and if only for this, i am proud to be a kapamilya ... and praying hard na malampasan nila ang trahedyang ito.

Three days old pa lang ang ULTRA tragedy. Mahaba-haba pa ang mga kuwento ng mga naulila at survivors. Naghihinagpis tayong lahat.

Sina Direk Joey Javier Reyes at Ai Ai de las Alas, talagang nagluksa sa ETK that day. Nakaitim sila at naka-plaster sa mukha nila ang mukha ng kalungkutan!

Hindi namin magagawa iyon pero hindi ibig sabihin ay mas malungkot sila kesa sa atin. Hindi lang tayo marunong mag-emote.

May magandang suggestion dito ang tatlong texters namin. Para raw maging makabuluhan ang anibersaryo ng Wowowee at mabigyang-saysay ang "walang katuturang pagkamatay ng mga kinumbidang panauhin sa Ultra," bakit hindi na lang ibenta ang mga premyong bahay, taksi at tricycle, mga showcases in a public auction?

Magiging fund-raising event ito para sa mga pamilyang naulila dahil sa walang sapat na proteksyon sa kanila sa ULTRA.

Wowowee owes this to them.

In this country of security guards, barangay officials, men in uniform to preserve the peace… and lives, nangyari ito. Ano kaya ang mensahe ng trahedyang ito?

Mas mahalaga ang mensahe kesa sa pagtuturuan kung sino ang may sala.

'Wowowee' dapat nang ilibing

Napanood namin ang pag-iyak ni Willie Revillame sa The Buzz nu’ng Linggo kung saan emosyonal niyang ibinulalas na hindi na umano niya kayang ipagpatuloy ang Wowowee at dahil doon ay humingi siya ng paumanhin sa mga boss niya sa ABS-CBN, partikular kay Ms. Charo Santos-Concio.

Nabanggit pa ni Willie ang linyang "Tragic sa akin ito!" habang napapaluha siyang nagsasalita.

Sa ganang amin ay tamang desisyon na huwag nang ‘buhayin’ pang muli ang programang Wowowee matapos itong ‘KAMATAYAN’ ng marami nating kapus-palad na kababayan.

Hindi namin ma-imagine na isang tanghali ay babalik si Willie sa harap ng telebisyon at buong ningning niyang sasabihin ang mga linyang, "TULOY ANG SAYA! TULOY ANG LIGAYA! TULOY ANG PAMIMIGAY NG GRASYA NG Wowowee!!!"

Imbes na matatamis na ngiti, malulutong na halakhakan, nakabibinging ingay ng sigawan at palakpakan, biglang-bigla ay pagluha, pagtangis, pamimighati at nakalulunos na imahe ng kamatayan ang imaheng pumapasok sa ating isipan kapag nababanggit ngayon ang Wowowee.

Kahit sabihin pang madaling makalimot ang mga Pinoy at lahat tayo ay may kakayahang mag-move on anumang hirap ang ating pagdaanan, ibang kaso ang sa Wowowee. Habampanahon nang nakatatak dito ang ‘stigma’ na maraming nalagas na buhay nang dahil sa programa.

Dahil nabahiran ito ng trahedya, hindi applicable sa Wowowee ang sikat na showbiz line na, "The show must go on!" dahil hindi na ito makatarungang i-‘resurrect’ pa. Hayaan na nilang ILIBING ito kasama ng mga pobreng tagasubaybay ng programa na nasawi sa naganap na killer stampede sa ULTRA.

i dont bother going to the rival network's threads because i dont want to be bothered by their opinions against abs ... and i feel i should respect the sanctity of their opinions posted in their OWN home.

Hello mga … just want to post my opinion about d stampede last Saturday… actually it’s not my opinion… share q lang cnbi ng prof q sa law 2ngql nga sa stampede.. dat tym kasi law class namin tapos ngtxt ung 1 naming friend n ngkastampede nga sa ultra kya ngkakwen2han kami 2ngql dun… tapos ngalit samin prof namin dahil d kami nki2nig sa kanya kasi nga pingauusapan namin ung stampede kasi sa likod kami nkupo ng mga friends q… tapos sabi ni sir share naman namin ung business namin.. kaya un kinwen2 namin.. n den we ask qng cno my kasalanan… lam nyo sagot nya??? Hindi daw dapat abs ang cchin dapat daw ung city engineer ng pasig kasi bakit ganun ung daaanan… alam naman daw nila n pang maramihang tao un pero hindi man lang nila inayos kasi palusong daw at lubak2 pa.. tama ba?? Kasi d me masyadong naka2panood ng news kc wla me tym…. Dapat din daw cchin ung ultra mismo kasi binayaran daw sila ng abs kya dapat gawin din nila ung responsibility nila…. ‘Wowowee’ tragedy pulls up ratings of ABS-CBN shows

Grief and shock on the Ultra stampede earned ABS-CBN an upswing on the ratings race over the weekend.


Except for "Eat Bulaga," and "Wish Ko Lang" on Saturday, and "SOP Gigsters," Love to Love" and "Starstruck" on Sunday, the Kapamilya network dominated the numbers in the latest AGB Nielsen Media TV survey.

The nation’s shock over the massive death toll coverage last Saturday gave "News Patrol" a 29.4 percent rating as opposed to "GMA Flash Report’s" 20.7 percent. ‘’News Patrol’’ was anchored by Karen Davila and Julius Babao while ‘’Flash Report’’ was manned by Pia Arcangel.

However, as soon as "Eat Bulaga" stepped on the air, people shifted to watch it and veer away from the ABS-CBN news that preempted ‘’Game Ka Na Ba’’ and ‘’Wowowee." "Eat Bulaga" garnered 34.1 percent against the ABS-CBN news show at 29.4 percent.

Towards the end of ‘’Eat Bulaga,’’ the cast offered a minute of prayer for those who perished in the Ultra tragedy.

ABS–CBN took over the lead again when "ETK Entertainment Konek Special" outscored "Startalk" 17.8 percent to 16.4 percent.

GMA-7 then gained back the lead when "Wish Ko Lang" was shown. The feel–good show earned 18.4 percent compared to 17.8 percent of ABS-CBN’s "Little Big Star."

Setback hits GMA anew when "Wag Kukurap" (18.6 percent) performed dismally against the Judy Ann Santos–Ryan Agoncillo–topbilled "Komiks: Inday Bote" (29.9 percent). It was a good pre–programming for "TV Patrol Sabado" which earned a 32.8 percent rating from 8:26 p.m. to 10 p.m. beating portions of "Bitoy’s Funniest" (30.8 percent ) and "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" (25.5 percent). The reportage of TV Patrol still delved on the stampede.

The following day, grief was still widespread in ABS–CBN shows when the Sunday Mass dubbed "Isang Pamamaalam" (13.7 percent) topped "Sassy Girl Chun Yang Rewind" (11.4 percent). The Mass was star-studded as it had Kris Aquino as commentator, with ABS-CBN top brass and stars in teary attendance.

A somber start for "ASAP 06," with a tearful Gary Valenciano singing ‘’The Warrior Is A Child’’ as opening earned for the show 17.9 percent, beating the lively "SOP" at 16 percent.

Ironically, "SOP Gigsters" won on the rebound with 14.9 percent opposite "ASAP Fanatic’s" 9.1 percent.

The much anticipated Willie Revillame interview on "The Buzz" earned the talk show 17.3 percent win versus "S–Files’" 10.1 percent viewers’ share.

GMA bounced back with "Starstruck " at 25.6 percent against "TV Patrol Linggo" at 20.9 percent. By this time, it had been two straight days that the Ultra tragedy was dominating the news. Viewers must have grown tired of it and wanted to hear something positive and entertaining.

Rounding up ABS–CBN’s ratings control over the weekend was the return of "Pinoy Big Brother, Celebrity Edition" tallying a commanding 32.9 percent share that swept the time slots of GMA’s "All Star K" (23.1 percent), "Daddy Di Do Du" (17.9 percent) and "Sunday Night Box Office: Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper" (11.4 percent).

just 2 giv u feedback.....Don't think that Kim Sam Soon will attract viewers here in d country coz i've watched it already. I was expecting that it's worth watching basing on the high ratings it earned in Korea and good reviews i read from soompi and other forums, but i was really disappointed for buying the whole series...i didn't enjoy watching it -- which was ironic coz the genre of the series is comedy-romance...i didn't find it romantic as well...

i watched d interview of MUP this morning with USEC Corpuz, who said that he has high regards with ABS & its management, and the reason why he said those words that goes: "ABS treated the people in ULTRA like animals..." was out of sympathy with the victims after hearing their sentiments. He apologized in public this morning thru MUP...and i respect him for having the courage to apologize; although, it's really unlikely for him to have uttered yesterday those unrelenting words.

Gloria Arroyo has jumped on the opportunity wagon offered by the Ultra stampede in holding media giant, the Lopez-owned ABS-CBN, hostage and keeping dangling the sword of Damocles over the network and the Lopezes, ready to drop this sword to cut off their heads if they don’t toe the Gloria line to ensure her political survival.
With the fact-finding team clearly laying the blame on the TV network, its producers and even the host, who is just a talent, but also virtually ignoring the police enforcement lapses, as well as the local government officials, then stating that the findings will be turned over to the Department of Justice (DoJ) for action, when it is well-known that the DoJ chief, Raul Gonzalez had already prejudged the case by announcing, even while the probe was ongoing, it was a done deal that the network would be held criminally liable, on the issue of negligence.

Even more interesting was the announcement from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) undersecretary, Marius Corpus, that the same report will be turned over to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for studies on administrative action. Why the NTC? Why not, when it holds censuring powers and the authority to disallow certain broadcasts under pain of losing broadcast permits, if not withdrawing the permits, if not the suspension of the franchise itself?

It is no secret that strained relations today mark the Gloria-Lopez relationship, which was on a cooing stage during the impeachment of then sitting President, Joseph Estrada. The strain in the Gloria-Lopez relations was out in the open when she slammed the broadcast media for their negative reporting of her and her government, but with pointed reference to the ABS-CBN network over the Julius Babao case.

It was fairly evident that control over the Lopez-owned TV network to ensure that the Palace occupant would get positive play was of prime importance to Gloria and her propagandists.

Then came the stampede, out of which tragedy she could squeeze the Lopezes, especially as everyone pointed the finger of blame on Gloria for bringing the people to this hopeless state of poverty.

This is of course not to say the network was blameless for the stampede. It should have been more prepared for the size of the crowd and a probable stampede, given the fact that four years ago, a similar incident, though not resulting in deaths, occurred at the ABS-CBN compound. But it also cannot be denied that nobody wanted that tragedy to come about. It also cannot be denied that, based on documents furnished by the fact-finding team, it was clear that ABS-CBN did ask the police, the local executives and whatever agency’s help was needed to assist the TV station in crowd control. And yet the DILG skirted the most important issue of the police presence in crowd control, when, as already pointed out, it is the task of the police.

Certainly, both the local government units and the cops knew that the crowd was getting bigger by the day, and yet nothing was being done by them. So why did the DILG team virtually absolve the police of any blame in the stampede, and log on all blame on the TV network? And why the need of the NTC to come into the picture? To rule that henceforth, there will be no more game shows offering big prizes? That would also impact on the rival TV networks, which are no different from ABS-CBN in handling game programs and promos and this could even get the poor who lap up these shows to get more mad at this government for denying them that chance of a lifetime to ease their miserable poverty.

But what really took the cake was that the fact-finding team leader used this tragedy to get the public behind Gloria Arroyo and her government, even going into blasphemy by stating that in that tragedy was a message from God. He then went on to interpret that message as God showing the good and bad sides of Filipinos, which is no different from Gloria’s claims of a two Philipppies, then telling the Filipinos God wants them to join hands, or tragedy will befall the country. What depths this government goes to, to even use a tragedy to get the people to support an illegal and immoral goverment!

There was too, that same DILG undersecretary making that conclusion that the network treated the program fans like animals, saying the station’s offer of money in exchange for the crowd to leave was like throwing meat to a pack of dogs!

Good grief! This was supposed to be fact-finding mission. That wasn’t fact.

Enough of all these Gloria games. The case against ABS-CBN is going to be left hanging — in the DoJ and in the NTC. If the Lopezes toe Gloria’s line, they will be let off the hook. If not, well, they’ll be made to pay for not bowing to Gloria’s wishes.

It is as simple as that.

Gloria Arroyo has jumped on the opportunity wagon offered by the Ultra stampede in holding media giant, the Lopez-owned ABS-CBN, hostage and keeping dangling the sword of Damocles over the network and the Lopezes, ready to drop this sword to cut off their heads if they don’t toe the Gloria line to ensure her political survival.
With the fact-finding team clearly laying the blame on the TV network, its producers and even the host, who is just a talent, but also virtually ignoring the police enforcement lapses, as well as the local government officials, then stating that the findings will be turned over to the Department of Justice (DoJ) for action, when it is well-known that the DoJ chief, Raul Gonzalez had already prejudged the case by announcing, even while the probe was ongoing, it was a done deal that the network would be held criminally liable, on the issue of negligence.

Even more interesting was the announcement from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) undersecretary, Marius Corpus, that the same report will be turned over to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for studies on administrative action. Why the NTC? Why not, when it holds censuring powers and the authority to disallow certain broadcasts under pain of losing broadcast permits, if not withdrawing the permits, if not the suspension of the franchise itself?

It is no secret that strained relations today mark the Gloria-Lopez relationship, which was on a cooing stage during the impeachment of then sitting President, Joseph Estrada. The strain in the Gloria-Lopez relations was out in the open when she slammed the broadcast media for their negative reporting of her and her government, but with pointed reference to the ABS-CBN network over the Julius Babao case.

HINDI nabigo ang ABS-CBN sa pagpili nila kina Juday at Ryan Agoncillo na maging bida sa pilot episode ng bago nilang show na Komiks last Saturday. Aba, kahit matindi ang tensiyon at mainit na mainit ang usapan at pakiramdam ng mga tao noong Sabado dahil sa Wowowee Ultra stampede, hindi pa rin nakali-mutan ng mga supporters nina Juday at Ryan ang Inday Bote, na episode sa Komiks.

"Maraming salamat po sa tulong ninyo. The Judy Ann-Ryan tandem was a big hit in the ratings. Komik’s first episode Inday Bote rated a high of 29.9% vs Wag Kang Kukurap with 18.6% and Pinoy Pop Superstar with 26.0%. Again, thank you for all your help."
