You've known him as Ka Ernie, endorser of a popular health drink, and a powerful outdoor TV antenna product, but to the informal academe, he will always be known as Professor Ernie Baron, the man responsible for the radio program "Knowledge Power" aired over maverick ABS radio station DZMM.

Professor Baron, who sidelines as an herbalist when he was not on the air, succumbed to a silent form of heart disease yesterday morning. He was 65.

He was discovered lifeless by his eldest daughter that morning after he failed to come out of his room for his daily breakfast.

Baron has been on radio for more than 40 years, and first joined ABS-CBN in 1967. Education officials revered him for his role in bringing general knowledge to the ordinary Filipino who otherwise couldn't afford a formal education. He chose to teach over the airwaves rather than in a classroom because that way, he can reach out to the people that really mattered about knowledge of the world around them.

Baron's keen sense of the sciences also got him involved with pyramidology, partly due to his herbal practice at his well known Kamias St. herbal academy where flocks of his "devotees" came every day to listen to his lectures on cleansing diet and "pito-pito", an herb that he regularly espouses on his radio show.

It was well known that his knowledge is that vast. But often, Baron could only say that he got this much knowledge simply through reading a lot. He often encouraged listeners to read more. And it seems that many youths today got his message.

Because of him, the country is not wanting of genuises, and Baron's imprint on radio will hardly be missed because his shoes can easily be fitted anytime by today's generation of genuises. What happened to him yesterday was simply a passing of the baton. It is time for the youth to stand up and teach the Gen X'ers.

Sabi nga sa akin kanina ng Programs Acquisition, ung Only You, sa Korea, hindi nag rate. As in underrated pa. Pero dito sa Pilipinas, nag hit. Kaya kahit anong sabihin nila na mababa ang ratings ng Princess Lulu sa Korea, puwedeng maging hit ito dito sa Pilipinas just like Only You.

Ung Sad Love Song pala ang mahal ng binayad ng GMA dun. As in sobrang mahal.

Jewel in the Palace na lang ang nagdadala ng pera sa GMA. Sayang ung highly-budgeted local-produced series nila.

Naaaliw talaga ako kay Kakoy sa official tv ratings thread ng ABS-CBN forum. Parang ang nagsasalita talaga nung mga tinatype nya ay yung picture sa tabi nya hahaha.

Pero anyway, sana naman pagsabihan mo Johnston yung mga kapamilya natin na dito na lang sila magpost sa bahay natin sa tsinoy at huwag na dun sa ibang tsinoy threads lalo pa at dun sa kabila.

Ayos nga dito sa bahay natin, parang ang ganda ng takbo at maayos lahat. Wala kang angst na mababasa sa mga posts although hindi ko mage-generalize lahat. Basta ang saya ng atmosphere dito. It was a very close fight between the final 3, Kris, Tata and Jimmy Marquez. It was a lot of hard work and the three had to go through 3 rounds of tough competition. Round 1 was Choice Ko ‘To, where they got to sing a song of their personal choice. Round 2 was Duet with My Idol, the final 3 singing a special song with their favorite artist. And Round 3 found them in Bunutan at Biritan where Tata, Kris and Jimmy’s song choice was held in the fate of a fishbowl -- they had to draw lots and sing the song written on the piece of paper in their hands. The average score from each round then determined who are the 2 Hits and one who had to say good-bye to the Final Showdown.

Round 1 started with Jimmy singing his favorite song Sometime, Somewhere. Kris confidently sang Lately, a song he says that he knows by heart. Tata did Whitney Houston’s Didn’t We Almost Have It All and dedicated http://www.abs-cbn.com/imgs-tmp/kl2.jpgit to her first love. Round 2, Tata took the first slot this time singing Could We with idol Gary Valenciano. Kris dominated the stage next with Concert Queen Pops Fernandez with a romantic The Closer I Get To You. Jimmy and R&B crooner Ella Mae Saison ended the round with Whenever You Call. Round 3 was the deciding factor of the last two champs standing. Kris started the competition this time with How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, the song he hoped that he would draw. Jimmy did a very good version of the Power of Love while Tata truly delivered with Somewhere.

The Versatile Vocalist’s last song proved that she really deserved a spot in the last round, so Tata’s name was the first one called to the Hit Zone. Kris was prepared to say farewell to colleague Jimmy but got the shock of his life when his name was called next. Jimmy bid farewell to the competition with grace, giving Tata and Kris a very good fight. In Round 4, the two had to sing one song and sing the show’s official theme this season, Where No One Dares To Go by renowned composer Vehnee Saturno.

Spring Days - 11:30 timeslot?

For me, ok lang. Actually, hindi ko sya nagustuhan. Mas maganda ang MOB. Ung role ni Jo In Sung sa MOB and SD ay di nagkakalayo. Ganun din ung acting nya. Kung hindi masyadong detailed ung mga scenes, cguro 16 episodes lang 'to. The first few episodes were good but hindi na-maintain kya naging boring. But this series got high ratings in Korea.

One thing I really love in this series is the OST especially the main song - just dunno the title. :)

when i first saw the teaser for spring day i was so excited kasi finally ipapalabas na rin cya. i even texted one of the people here in the forum to check if he saw the teaser pero yun nga i was very disappointed nung malaman ko na sa umaga cya ilalagay... there's no way na mapanood ko cya.

Ang ganda ng Maalaala Mo Kaya. Balik na ulit sa tatak-MMK. Ang galing pala umarte ni John Wayne Sace kaya lang naiilang ako minsan sa pagka-Robin Padilla type of acting nya. Pero sya ang pinakamagaling sa buong cast. Tsaka si Cherry Pie Picache.

Ang ganda pa ng story at ang mga dialogue, talagang very realistic, although yung ibang part very preachy na at well-choreographed. Pero one of the best episodes pa rin. Sulit kahit 12:20 na natapos. Sana ganito lagi ang MMK. :)

Compared to Sad Love Song, Spring Days pa rin. Siguro nga this drama series deserves a primetime slot. But looking at the positive side, this could positively affect the ratings of Homeboy & PGKNB. And since mas mauunang matapos ang Sad Love Song at in case matalo sya ng Spring Days, there's a possibility that GMA would replace SLS with a very good series (which deserves a primetime slot as well) to match up with SD. Lastly, kung di lahat mangyari 'to...useless lang ang paglagay sa 11:30 timeslot ng SD.:confused:

this was because manny was being interviewed by kim atienza of mup kanina. so its just but proper for him to thank mup only ... unethical naman if he would mention the other channel pa.

i was quite disappointed with dyan castillejo kanina. she was wid manny sa plane and mup was on air even before 5am pa to get the first interview with manny. but ... horror of all horrors ... manny was interviewed via phone patch by igan of unang hirit first. when julius was asking dyan for manny, he was already on the phone being interviewed sa kbila ... and julius has to wait until matapos yun kbila before he was able to interview manny.

nkita ko ito bcoz when dyan told julius na nasa phone si manny at ini-interview na, kinabahan ako so i check yun kabilang show ...

hay dyan ... nakatulog ka yata sa pansitan kanina!!! for me, it was a major boo boo for you ... sayang ...

ABS-CBN launches ‘Little Big Star Cebu’ http://www.mb.com.ph/images/spacer.jpg



CEBU CITY - It was virtual pandemonium when Sarah Geronimo entered the ABS-CBN Studio in Cebu last Jan. 23. Children of all ages and their parents shrieked and cheered when they saw the singer - children mobbed her as the older fans whisked out their camera-phones and film cameras to take pictures of their favorite pop princess.

Sarah’s younger fans yelled in jubilation, "I love you Sarah!" and "Idol kita Sarah!" as the singer walked towards the set. And according to most of the children I spoke to, they were just too happy that Sarah was in town.

They revealed that they idolize and adore Sarah. "Gusto kong maging Sarah Geronimo," each of them said, and this was the sole reason they auditioned for "Little Big Star Cebu."

Sarah Geronimo was in Cebu to host the launching of "Little Big Star Cebu," ABS-CBN’s first bid to regionalize the popular "Little Big Star" in Manila.

The show will eventually be turned over to its regional host Sheryn Regis, the first runner-up of the first batch of "Star in a Million. "Little Big Star Cebu" will start airing on Jan. 30, in Cebu and the Central Visayas. While some snippets from the said program will be aired too in the "Little Big Star" of Mega Manila.

Also in Cebu for the launch were Enrico Santos, Vice President for Creative Synergy and Entertainment, Rissa Ebriega, Production Manager, Lino Cayetano, Director for LBS Manila, Trisha Corpus, Production Manager for RNG, and Joel Mercado, LBS head writer. They were present to see to it that LBS Cebu has the same feel as the original show in Manila. Tata Sy, the Station Manager of Cebu with Trixie Tolentino, Marketing Specialist, explained that the essence of LBS Manila must be captured in LBS Cebu otherwise the Cebuanos won’t take it as their own.

"We can’t give them a poor copy of show because it will be insulting. That is why we sent our production team for immersion in Manila so they could also bring to Cebu the production quality found in LBS Manila," said Tata.

She added that "Little Big Star Cebu" is very inspirational since its thrust is for any kid to join irregardless of his socio-economic stature. Like for example Robert Villar, Jr. whose family is not so well off that his father had to borrow clothes from his neighbor for his son’s audition and another set of clothes from another neighbor for the taping of the launching program.

Trisha Corpus, Production Manager for RNG also pointed out that "Little Big Star Cebu" happened because the Cebuanos asked for the show. "Dahil hiniling ninyo po and dahil number siya and dahil talagang talented ang mga Cebuano kids and we want to do it for the longest time and maging tuloy, tuloy."

When "Little Big Star Cebu" opened its doors for audition, there were hundreds young aspirants who joined and they were not just from Cebu but neighboring provinces like Surigao, Dumaguete and Bohol. The popularity of this talent search according to Enrico Santos can be attributed to the country’s rich heritage of artists now well-known all over the world.

"Maybe it has something to do with our culture. Here in the Philippines kapag walang chance ang mga parents, it’s their kids they pass their dreams to. The Philippines naman traditionally is a country of entertainers. Nasa arts naman ang ating strength di ba? I don’t know if that’s the product of education or the product of our culture...I guess it really has something to do with hard times," opined Enrico.

With regards to Lino Cayetano’s role in the LBS Cebu, he said, "We are here to lend support to their pilot episode which will be directed by Jose Rodriguez. Very crucial sa success ng ‘Little Big Star’ is the type of contest that it is...ipakita yung pride ng bata na nakatapak siya dito sa contest that he’s performing on television performing for everyone. It is not just the competition but the joy of performing. And that they were given this opportunity na hindi naiibigay sa lahat sa showbiz. More than the technical aspects, we want to show the essence of what ‘Little Big Star’ is.

This is an aspirational show! Manalo matalo it will make you feel good!"

As for Sheryn Regis who’ll be in her hometown Cebu a couple of days a week for "Little Big Star Cebu, she is more than delighted to be part of the show. "I’m so happy na napili ako dito sa Cebu na mag host ng ‘Little Big Star.’ It is a great honor and very flattering. Magagamit ko ang pagka Bisaya ko," she smiled.

The Magic of Little Big Star

"Everything was already to run when I came in...for me ‘Little Big Star’ is a blessing and so is ‘Anghel na Walang Langit.’ This has been a good change for me and I’m very happy these shows are doing well," commented Lino Cayetano.

The magic or appeal of "Little Big Star" was already prevalent when they held their first audition for the show. What was immediately noticeable was the heart of the young auditioners and their confidence.

"Sa audition pa lang sabi na namin that we have a phenomenon in our hands," expressed Enrico. "Nakikita mo sa passion ng contestant.

Coming from shows like ‘Sang Linggo Na Po Sila," "MTB," and "Pinoy Big Brother" (he sent people to audition), he admitted to experiencing their contestants’ drive and devotion in their audition.

"Alam mo ibang passion kapag bata ang magulang, parang may family mission. They are excited to join the show kasi they used to join fiestas, na alam nila na puro kanta lang gagawin nila, iba yung thrill nila that the whole show is devoted to them," he added.

Sarah Geronimo is also an important factor as the contestants look up to her. They like the fact that she could handle the show with all seriousness and yet could still play patty-cake at the backstage with the contestants and even "habulan." Not outgrowing her childhood and loving the kids very much has bonded Sarah and the LBS contestants. Their rapport too is experienced by televiewers nationwide who has grown an affinity for the show.

Another appeal of the show is the Honor Roll System, a system to retain as much kids as possible in the show. But if one or two falls out, they are included in the Little Big Voices, a chorale of kids who perform with the contestants every now and then.

"We want to retain the kids through the Honor Roll system kapag may nag fall off sa monthly na, nilalagay ni Rizza sa Little Big Voices which is a chorale of kids," shared Enrico,"The idea of retaining as many kids as possible without showing any losers came from Ma’am Charo Santos naman. Sabi niya for us to put in the mechanism to retain them on stage because the parents naman they don’t expect their kids to be valedictorian naman kasi winners na yan sa bahay nila. Gusto lang nilang ma validate. And it turned out to be okay. Hindi sila magka-kagalit kasi alam nila pag-natalo pupunta sa chorale at makakalaro pa rin nila. Pag may nananalo niyayakap nila kahit talo sila at pagkatapos nagla-laro...Kids have a lot to teach us about values."

The first nine contestants in "Little Big Star Cebu" ‘Little Division are Chelka Mae Segbuguero, Gene-vieve Eloise Casinilio, Robert Villar, Jr., Sa-mantha Abadilla, Louie Jay Vacunador, Xdene-lie Pagatpatan, Jo-hanne Morisette Amon, Jamie Anette Juan and Anne Mae Abong. For the Big Division, they are Kath-leen Joy Escobedo, Rhostom Velos, Scarlet Yumang, Ronna Jenn Lofranco, Louie Janes II Otom, April Lara and Alexis del Castillo.

No kidding, you may now call Willlie Revillame "Your Excellency" in view of his recent honorary designation as Celebrity Envoy for Tourism, in connection with the "Grand Pinoy Homeconing Program" of the Department of Tourism. This is the first time ever that a Filipino celebrity was appointed Celebrity Envoy by the DoT.

Willie’s designation as such was formalized last Wednesday morning with him and Secretary of Tourism Joseph "Ace" Durano signing the papers in the presence of DoT officials and staff and Willie’s family and close friends.

Willie’s appointment as Celebrity Envoy for Tourism may raise a lot of eyebrows considering Willie’s "notoriety" and controversial nature. In fact, we gathered that even DoT employees are not in favor of Willie’s appointment and this explained why not so many came to meet and welcome the "Wowowee" host.

But anyway Secretary Durano explained that Willie was chosen because he has been helping promote the country through his daily gameshow "Wowowee" on AB-CBN. Just watching him work in his program would make one realize his personal advocacy of encouraging tourists, especially fellow Filipinos, to come and visit the country, Secretary Durano said.

Aside from giving us a good laugh every day, Willie has been doing a big share in prodding Filipinos abroad, especially the young ones, to come home and experience the beauty of the country of their forebears, Secretary Durano noted.

(We’d like to attest to this power of Willie and his "Wowowee" show in drawing young Filipino tourists to take their vacations here. Last December, all of our balikbayan relatives and friends from the US and London asked only one favor from us — passes to "Wowoowee!" And they went home feeling so happy and satisfied, and thanking us profusely of course because their special passes spared them the discomfort of lining up for hours to get into the studio. We learned these balikbayans that through The Filipino Channel, they are able to watch "Wowowee.")

In a lighter note, Secretary Durano recalled that in the olden times, envoys were appointed by kings and queens to represent them in other countries. "Being an envoy is a profession and vocation during those times and envoys were designated for special missions. And as envoys, they are addressed to as ‘Your Excellency.’ So you may now call Willie ‘Your Excellency,’" he jokingly added.

On his part, Willie thanked Secretary Durano "for this great honor that he has bestowed on me. Napakalaking karangalan ito and up to now I don’t know if it’s just a dream or a reality. With my show, I just wanted to make people happy everday. Sa ‘Wowowee,’ gusto ko everday is Christmas day..."

Everybody knew that Willie went through a lot of trials in his life. "I was terminated twice at ABS-CBN, I was suspended three times but I didn’t get angry at anyone. Alam ko pagsubok lang ito ng Panginoon. I did not feel any bitterness or anger. I did not lose faith in God," he stressed.

And now it seems he has passed the crisis in his life with the many blessings he has been receiving ever since he got married to Liz Almoro (who has given him a son, now three months old).

Willie recalls that when ABS–CBN offered him to host "Wowowee," he asked for a timeslot wherein the show could be viewed by the whole family. "At, ang gusto ko hindi lang makapagpasaya sa mga tao, kundi makatulong sa mga kapuspalad."

As DoT’s Celebrity Envoy, Willie promised to do his job well and be a good example for Pinoys worldwide to emulate. In fairness to him, long before he was even considered to be DoT’s Celebrity Envoy for Tourism, Willie has been doing his part to help bring in tourists and balikbayans, by assuring them that the Philippines is a most beautiful country to visit, "that the Philippines is a paradise."

He added: "My role now is not only to help but to convince children of Fil-Am parents to come home to visit their mother country." And because "Wowowee" is seen by millions of Filipinos worldwide through TFC, Willie could easily fulfull his job as envoy for tourism. TFC has also donated large sums of money to "Wowowee’s" civic projects.

Actually, an avid supporter of Willie’s show, William Lim of W.L. Foods Group of Companies who’ve donated several jeeps to the program, was with Willie’s entourage (which included his wife Liz. his mother, his daughter Meryll Soriano, his director Edgar Mortiz, his mother-in-law Clavel Bendaña, TV host/columnist Cristy Fermin and some others).

By the way, Willie’s honorary designation doesn’t carry any remuneration so it will be a labor of love for him. Willie doesn’t mind, he’ll do the job gladly for nothing. For him, this is a job "na walang kapalit" in terms of worthiness.

Since it’s his birthday today, Jan. 27, DoT prepared a beautiful birthday cake, quite big but not enough to carry 45 candles!

Anyway, our congratulations to "His Excellency," Willie Revillame.

UST honors ABS-CBN shows


ABS-CBN 2 was honored recently by the University of Santo Tomas in the second USTV Students Choice Awards (USTV) held on Jan. 20.
Among the awards garnered by ABS-CBN are Students’ Choice of News Program for “TV Patrol World,” Students’ Choice of Entertainment News Show for “The Buzz,” Students’ Choice of Drama Program for “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” Students’ Choice for Magazine Program for “F,” and Students’ Choice of Educational Program for “Sineskwela.”


Kapamilya talents were also lauded by USTV. Korina Sanchez bagged the Students’ Choice of Female Broadcast News and Public Affairs Host and John Lloyd Cruz was awarded Students’ Choice of Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the recently concluded teleseries “Ikaw ang Lahat sa Akin.”


The USTV is a yearly event which began last year aimed to educate and train the Thomasian community in responsible television viewing. Winners are judged by a panel composed of students, faculty members, and representatives from the administration of UST.

May kapalit ang Donsol, ang hindi natuloy na digital movie na ipo-prodyus at pagbibidahan ni Marvin Agustin. Any day now, magsisimula siyang mag-shooting sa horror trilogy movie ng Star Cinema, titled 'Wag Kang Lilingon.

Katambal ni Marvin sa first episode si Anne Curtis sa direksyon ni Quark Henares. Bida naman si Kristine Hermosa sa second episode na ididirek ni Jerry Sineneng. Ang third episode ay resolution daw ng first two episodes.

Excited si Marvin na muling gumawa ng pelikula sa Star Cinema dahil ang last movie niya'y Tanging Ina pa.

nakalimutan ko na kasi ung dati pero mukhang sa gitna n sya sinimulan. ang alam ko nabili na nila ung mga episopdes na hindi naipalabas noon. medyo updated na din yta ang Program Acquisitions Dept. sa mga Animes nila. Pati ung Marimite binili n nila ung Season2.

Nanghihinayang ako..nagsimula si HAJIWOn of MEMORIES of BALi..pero ang DAMO di nila nakuha..superb ganda kasi ng DAMO..worth and recommendable talaga.I have a copy and I love it.. HAJIWON is at best here .....

Anyway I am still watching naman ABS-CBN shows.. kahit minsan I admit I watched sa GMA Shows.. in fact favorite ko ngayon sa ABS yung Mga Anghel Na Walang Langit then I follow it up wth ONLY You then Vietname Rose yan ay kung di aagawain sa akin ng mga kapatid ko yung TV and watched STAR STRUCK..but I will admit Maganda yung Jewel compared sa Forbidden Love..I read the Script but then I will also admit pag pumasok ang PBB.. the Jewel migh reduced its audience share.....

I hope nag overload nga ako....kasi sa ibang thread ninyo try to see ninyo baka nag overload kayo..ng pics. and yet over flooding din ang pics.. was it because I do admiore DAMO and that GMA 7 has the opportunity to get its rights.. Neverthe less ..I stil admire shows lalo na pag show ng ABS-CBN ang WONDERFUL LIFE...GAME KANA BA, Inaabanagan ko nga KOMIKS...

I am not afte whose channel it is..As long I have good shows to watched I do.. wala ako kung anong rating meron siya..wala akong paki doon. ..basta mganda ang show doon ako..
