wala silang ibang alam sa buhay nila kundi ratings...

na para bang ang buong metro manila ay nako-cover ng ratings...na para bang 100% accurate ang ratings...na para bang ang ratings lang ang bubuo sa lahat-lahat...kaya naman konti lang bumaba ang ratings nila ay tsugi na agad ang show o kaya ay maililipat agad ng timeslot....kasi wala silang ibang kayang panghawakan kundi ang ratings...

kaya naman pag nag-showing ang pelikula ay obvious kung sino nga ang tunay na phenomenal o nilalangaw....kaya naman pag nag-mall tour o nag-caravan ay obvious kung sino ang phenomenal at ang nilalangaw...kaya naman sa reception ng tao saan mang panig ng mundo ay obvious kung sino ang phenomenal at sino ang nilalangaw...phenomenal nga...indeed....

subalit ang pagiging phenomenal ay maaring makuha din sa ibang pamamaraan...sa lifestyle, sa culture, kung ano ang bukambibig, kung ano ang ginagaya, sa fads, sa fashion, sa crazes, sa kung ano ang tunay na tinatangkilik ng tao na di kayang kuhanin sa o dayain ng ratings...

ang meteor garden naman ay di umabot ng 50% ang ratings kahit pa nung kasagsagan nito...pero sa pagiging phenomenal at sa "craze" na dinala nito sa pilipinas, masasabi bang me makakatalo pa dito kahit na yung ibang koreanovela dyan na diumano ay umabot ang ratings ng 50% sa metro manila lang naman???

kung ratings lang ang pagbabatayan ay dapat sabihing naparaming higit na phenomenal kaysa meteor garden o kaysa marimar o rosalinda o ghostfighter o mara clara....pero ang mga ito ay naging napaka-phenomenal nung kapanahunan nila kahit di umabot sa 50% ratings ang mga ito.... kumpara sa ibang palabas na halos maka-100% na sa ratings sa metro manila...

kaya di siguro nila matanggap na phenomenal ang PINOY BIG BROTHER ay dahil nga sa naging performance nito sa ratings sa metro manila....bahala na ang taong magpasya kung alin ang phenomenal at alin ang hindi...ang tao naman talaga ang tumatangkilik at umiidolo sa mga bagay at artista at show na nagiging phenomenal overtime....kahit pa anong ratings ang lumabas dyan...

Johnston, ilusyon lang ng ABS na nag hit ang PBB first season the only gage na nag hit sya ay ang ratings, yung mga drama special palpak sa ratings, pinipilit lang talaga sa tao na hit.

OO yung song ay hit but not the series. Pls wake up, ako din I like the song pero hanggang doon lang...the show is an insult to our true Filipino values, granting na may 2 foreigners pa pala...ay naku.

Correct ka dyan, actually the show takes advantage and exploit the common masa para masabing nagbigay ng values sa tao... My God, BIG BROTHER, ginawa ang reality show na to hindi para sa values... kundi sa mainam na entertainment (Obscenity!) at alam ng ibang countries yan... super duper corny tuloy ang lumabas... pati ang matatandang nananahimik sa home for the aged, papapasukin sa bahay ni kuya at ipakikitang tunay silang may concern sa mga masa... hay naku, sana wag na lang isaksak ang mga aral tsuva dahil hindi yun nature ng show na BIG BROTHER!!!

At my Gosh, my drama pa na talaga namang panindig balahibo ang naramdaman ko sa hiya dahil walang katorya torya ang storyline and acting....

Gising, gising, gising... at expect sa celebrity edition ang mga papansin na naman at expect niyo, may gift giving tsuva, pakain, pamimigay ng regalo at kung ano ano pa para masabing makamasa ang show! Lalo na kung si Willie ang host, haha parang taos sa puso ang ginagawa niya!!!

Nag-first taping na ang cast ng show na kalulugdan hindi lang ng mga bata, kundi ng lahat na mahilig sa science-fiction.

Nang mapanood si Mark sa Shake, Ratlle & Roll, nakitang hindi pa rin nawawala ang galing niyang umarte. May mga nag-wish na masundan ang kanyang pelikula at habang wala pa yun, sa TV n’yo muna siya subaybayan.

Hits

These are the seven shows that had audiences across the nation glued on their TV sets every night, seven days a week last year.

1. Darna. The telenovelizaton of Mars Ravelo’s comic book serial on the Filipino female superhero was probably the best that happened to primetime TV. It was launched at a time when audiences have been looking for alternative viewing fare as they seemed tired of watching all those telenovelas with predictable plots and plodding narrative populated by one-dimensional characters. Darna offered something different, a serial that didn’t follow the formula of Gulong ng Palad, Flor de Luna, and Anna Lisa.

Also, it had been years since an actress donned Darna’s winged cap, the two-piece red outfit and soared up in the sky. The last actress who swallowed the mythical white pebble was Regine Velasquez in Captain Barbell, and Darna wasn’t even the lead role. Angel Locsin, who was just fresh from playing the role of Alwina fit into Darna’s redesigned outfit. Darna, even if it failed to sustain audience’s interest with its flawed narrative still holds the highest rating show in the history of Philippine TV.

2. Encantadia. The fascination for Encantadia can be attributed to the people’s longing for another Okay Ka Fairy Ko. Magical creatures vanishing at will, majestic outfits, amazing swords and weaponry—Encantadia improved by two-fold what Okay Ka Fairy Ko had years ago. To top it off, Encantadia did not stray too far away from its original storyline, unlike Sugo and at some point, Darna. Moreover, Encantadia revived the almost-dead careers of actors Pen Medina, Karylle, Polo Ravales, Bobby Andrews, and Dingdong Dantes. But the most notable achievement of Encantadia is Sunshine Dizon’s comeback. Through it, Dizon regained what she lost: her credibility as an actor.

3. Pinoy Big Brother. After all of its primetime shows were beaten in the ratings by its competitor, ABS-CBN held on to Pinoy Big Brother, its much-publicized franchise of the popular European reality TV show. Although the concept might have offended the sensibilities of conservative groups, and occasionally have incurred the wrath of the MTRCB, ABS-CBN remained undaunted, unaffected by criticisms and poor rating showings on weekdays. Director Laurenti Dyogi and executive producer Linggit Tan just hoped that it would be the show to save ABS-CBN’s lackluster 2005. It was, as its weekend editions humbled shows on the other channels in the ratings race.

4. Bubble Gang. It’s the best gag show since curtains dropped on Tropang Trumpo. Stars, Sharon Cuneta included, have expressed their delight and approval of the show. Aside from its cast, led by Ogie Alcasid and Michael V., Bubble Gang’s strength are its stars who, most of the time, don’t try to be funny. They are funny even when they are not doing anything. With the introduction of the segment “Spoof,” wherein the cast makes a parody of a popular TV commercial, the audience had another reason to cancel their gimiks every Friday night and go home early to watch Bubble Gang.

5. Goin’ Bulilit. This gag show for kids and by kids is in reality a spin-off of the popular early-’90s sitcom, Goin’ Bananas, which starred Edgar Mortiz, Johnny Delgado, Al Tantay, Christopher de Leon, and the late Jay Ilagan. Goin’ Bulilit’s sudden popularity came as no surprise for ABS-CBN, since the concept had been done before in Ang TV. Sensing its strong presence and itching to gain ultimate leadership, GMA came up with an answer: Bubble Gang Jr. Unfortunately there was only one room for a show of such nature. Bubble Gang Jr. crashed before it could even take off.

6. Mulawin, the series, not the movie. Before it was adapted into a movie, Mulawin had the perfect formula for winning the ratings race. It had three in-demand heartthrobs as lead actors (Richard Gutierrez, Dennis Trillo, and Angel Locsin); never-before-seen special effects on TV; and an unpredictable story without too many complicated twists. GMA had scored a gold mine with this one. Perhaps, it was even the show that gave the kapuso network the upperhand, or the position of advantage and control over ABS-CBN. Similarly, this might have helped Angel snag the Darna role. Without question, fans loved the winged creatures the moment they took flight and soared high in the sky.

7. Extra Challenge. Among GMA shows in the primetime block, Extra Challenge is perhaps the strongest and the most enduring show that gives programs of rival networks a real difficult time. From being the ordinary tried-and-true magazine-format show that featured personalities, lifestyle, and trends, Extra Challenge evolved into something that would later become the benchmark of reality TV shows today on local TV. Never mind if it attempted to tread the same path as Fear Factor at the outset, because it didn’t take long for host Paolo Bediones, who also has a hand in conceptualizing the challenges, to help the show break free from their “copycat” image. For such, viewers and showbiz insiders look up to Paolo Bediones for being one of the few celebrities who really don’t mind getting a little elbow grease for the sake of their shows. Today, Extra Challenge is enjoying a lot of rating points for having celebrities, regardless of their network affiliations, on the show as challengers. The most exciting about the show is the fact that its drama, adventures, and misadventures don’t stop when the cameras stop recording. Just take a look at Ethel Booba and Viva Hot Babe Gwen Garci, two bosomy bombshells who are fighting over a young model. Their bust-up (no pun intended) has become a staple on GMA showbiz-oriented talk shows.

Flopperoos

Here are seven shows that missed their target in 2005

1. Sugo. This is the biggest disappointment on local TV. Richard Gutierrez seemed to have lost his magic touch that propelled Mulawin (the series) to the top of the ratings. Sugo is losing its audience share to the rival network’s drama series featuring kid actors. GMA-7 is spending a lot of money for this project, but is it really worth it? They even gone as far as hiring a fight instructor from Hong Kong to see to it that the action sequences are at par with the Hollywood hits like Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Not even other young stars like Mike Tan, LJ Reyes, JC de Vera, and Isabel Oli could save the series from its impending nosedive. And whatever happened to Chinese actress Joe Chen? If the recently concluded MMFF awards night were any indication, Richard is slowly going down to the pits of oblivion (no offense meant, Annabelle). Mulawin the movie did not win any award, and is a far third behind Enteng Kabisote and Exodus in the box-office cumulative receipts. Need we say that Mark Herras—and not Richard—was the People’s Choice at the awards night?

2. Panday. It was said that this is ABS-CBN’s answer to GMA-7’s Darna. But Panday was never really a worthy opponent to the Pinay superhero. And probably ABS-CBN knew it, for they could have pitted Panday in the same time slot as Darna, but they did not. The fantaserye had its share of problems right from the start. Months before it was launched, they were still looking for a lead female actor. And for lack of a better choice, they opted for Heart Evangelista, whose love team with Geoff Eigenmann was not as successful. While Heart’s performance exceeds expectations, Jericho is found wanting in the acting arena. For one, he lacks the presence and charisma the original Panday (the late Fernando Poe Jr.) once had. And after the first book ended (or was it just chapter?), viewers are still hoping for something good to come out in the fantaserye.

3. Wowowee. Just when we thought ABS-CBN have had enough of this guy, all of a sudden he’s back and topbills a show that will turn one year next month. Willie Revillame’s show is a far cry from its rival Eat...Bulaga! for so many reasons (do we still need to enumerate them?). Just imagine watching a daily show with the same opening number and a show host who can’t speak not only straight English but can’t speak clearly. He swallows syllables like he does his own saliva. The only reason Wowowee is not yet axed even if it’s below the ratings of Eat... Bulaga! is because the show is aired on TFC.

4. Vietnam Rose. Too much hype and nary a good performance—on the ratings race, at least. Vietnam Rose, ABS-CBN’s soap opera with a twist didn’t make any splash when it was first aired on TV. Maricel Soriano is a big-time artist who stars in a not-so-good project. So you can’t really blame her. Or maybe it was an unwise decision to pit it against Sugo, which at that time had in its favor being pre-programmed by Encantadia and post-programmed by All About Eve and later Attic Cat and Sassy Girl. It seems that Vietnam Rose will never bloom this side of the world.

5. Bora. What’s the point of making a sitcom named after the famous beach when you’re only shooting inside a studio? And ABS-CBN thought that they can rely on the Hunks—Piolo Pascual, Diether Ocampo, Bernard Palanca, Carlos Agassi, and Luis Manzano ( in lieu of Jericho Rosales who topbills Panday)—but viewers find Bahay Mo Ba’To? more entertaining. The network’s Web site even claimed that Bora is different because every episode will be done by their creative storytellers and writers. So whose fault is it? Is it bad acting, or bad writing?

6. Bubble Gang Jr. Networks just don’t get it, do they? If you happen to mimic a show format, you have to be sure that it is better than the original. That was what happened to this show, which was clearly an offshoot of ABS-CBN’s Goin’ Bulilit. Sensing that Goin’ Bulilit’s audience share could spread onto the other programs after it, GMA-7 immediately thought of something to stave off the little gains its competitor had with the kiddie comedy show. They have even gone as far as using the name Bubble Gang to have an instant recall. Well, the show that starred BJ Forbes, among other child stars, has already been axed, and Goin’ Bulilit still airs every Sunday.

7. Kampanerang Kuba. ABS-CBN tried to reinforce its primetime with this fantaserye. It had a good audience share, but still not as good as the ratings of its rival. Maybe Claudine Barretto, who declined to star in the series, knew this would not do her career any good. And for a time the project was shelved as the producers couldn’t find an actress to play the title role, until Anne Curtis came to the fore and sealed her biggest break since joining the camp of ABS-CBN. But what good did it do to her career? Kampanerang Kuba was trampled upon by Darna’s foes in the ratings game. At least kids remember Anne as the ugly girl with a hump on her back.

May reklamo laban sa TFC ang ating Japan based kababayan na si Mina Kojima (mymina0721@ yahoo.co.uk). Ito ang kabuuan ng email na ipinadala niya sa amin:

"I’m a TFC subscriber po sa Japan. Nais ko lang po na ma-publish ninyo ang aming reklamo na halos hindi na nabibigyan ng pansin kahit palagi kaming tumatawag sa kanilang opisina.

"Ang lagi po nilang sagot sa amin eh ang ABS CBN po ang hindi tumutugon sa kanilang mga hinihingi.

"Nagtataka po kami dahil hindi ipinalalabas dito sa Japan ang Gulong ng Palad at ang Panday.

"Halos kakaunti na ang kanilang programa bukod pa sa mga TV show na tatlong beses nilang inuulit sa loob ng isang araw at maraming commercial load.

"Halos lahat ng gusto naming panoorin ay late nang napapanood sa gabi. On time kami na magbayad at mahal ito para sa amin pero hindi namin ito alintana dahil sa aming kagustuhan na mapanood ang mga paboritong artista at malaman ang mga bagong balita tungkol sa Pilipinas.

"Matulungan sana po ninyo kami sa aming problema sa TFC. Maraming salamat po."

about koreanovelas naman sa dos, try mo lang manood maganda din siya. Kung may maganda sa GMA, may maganda din naman sa ABS di naman lahat ng koreanovelas na maganda napunta sa GMA meron din naman sa ABS kanya-kanyang taste na lang siguro (peace!).

Humataw na naman ang GMA 7 sa ratings sa pilot episode ng Darna (47.1% pilot episode) at sa Full House (50.9%). Kahit ang Meteor Garden ay hindi umabot sa rating ng koreanovela nina Jung Jee Hun at Song Hye Kyo (bilang ‘mag-asawang’ Justin at Jessie).

Inaasahan naming mas pagagandahin ng Darna ang kanilang special effects kumpara sa napanood namin sa pilot.

Inabangan ng televiewers ang Darna na nakakuha ng 47.1% (Mega Manila households) sa premiere episode nito noong Lunes.

In fairness sa Darna, halos lahat ng kakilala naming nakapanood ay nagandahan dito. Pambata ito at sa cliffhanger, aabangan mo ang susunod na episode.

Isa sa excited ay si Christopher de Leon na hindi pa nakapag-taping. Lalo siyang ginaganahan na mag-taping dahil sa mataas na rating at positive na feedback ng Darna sa mga manonood.

Umariba ang GMA 7 nu’ng Lunes dahil lalong lumakas ang Full House na naka-50.9% percent.

Hindi umabot sa ganitong ratingang ibang chinovela o koreanovela, maski ang Meteor Garden.

When ratings go down by 1 point means that anywhere from a minimum of 35,862
to a maximim of 167,834 LESS INDIVIDUAL VIEWERS

A deduction of 14.56 combined ratings means anywhere from 522,150 to 2,443,622
FEWER individual viewers are watching primetime shows of ABS & GMA. Considering
that each TV household on avg has 4.68 members, we can assume that during primetime
there will be about 2 members of the HH watching TV so at the least I would say there
are about 1,221,811 LESS combined viewers of both network.

Okey some may say its not realistic to expect combined ratings of 69 consistently
week to week basis. I agree , BUT if you look back to 2003 and even up to
3rd quarter of 2005 , there is 1 to 2 timeslot where the combined ratings of ABS and
GMA averages about 64 to 65 % consistently week after week . So quite a good number
of regular primetime viewers of ABS and GMA have stopped watching. More so for GMA
at the moment coz of Sugo and Etheria's performance. EC is loosing a bit of its popularity
but its been there for sometime so its expected. The sawa factor is more of problem that bothnetworks have to face. THE ATTENTION SPAN OF VIEWERS ARE MUCH SHORTER THATIT USED TO BE YEARS BACK. I see more and more viewers watching shows based on its story rather than who is are the stars of show Of coarse there will be die hard fanatics who will always watch the soap of theiridol regardless of the story , BUT these fanatics only comprise a small portion of the regular primetimeviewers. This should be a wake up call to both network to improve their show.

1 rating point= 35,862 TV household. A TV houshold has on avg 4.68 members
When ratings go down by 1 point means that anywhere from a minimum of 35,862
to a maximim of 167,834 LESS INDIVIDUAL VIEWERS

A deduction of 14.56 combined ratings means anywhere from 522,150 to 2,443,622
FEWER individual viewers are watching primetime shows of ABS & GMA. Considering
that each TV household on avg has 4.68 members, we can assume that during primetime
there will be about 2 members of the HH watching TV so at the least I would say there
are about 1,221,811 LESS combined viewers of both network.

Okey some may say its not realistic to expect combined ratings of 69 consistently
week to week basis. I agree , BUT if you look back to 2003 and even up to
3rd quarter of 2005 , there is 1 to 2 timeslot where the combined ratings of ABS and
GMA averages about 64 to 65 % consistently week after week . So quite a good number
of regular primetime viewers of ABS and GMA have stopped watching. More so for GMA
at the moment coz of Sugo and Etheria's performance. EC is loosing a bit of its popularity
but its been there for sometime so its expected. The sawa factor is more of problem that bothnetworks have to face. THE ATTENTION SPAN OF VIEWERS ARE MUCH SHORTER THATIT USED TO BE YEARS BACK. I see more and more viewers watching shows based on its story rather than who is are the stars of show Of coarse there will be die hard fanatics who will always watch the soap of theiridol regardless of the story , BUT these fanatics only comprise a small portion of the regular primetimeviewers. This should be a wake up call to both network to improve their show.


maybe the difference goes to the cable channels or even some free tv channels that are offering better shows .. e.g. for news - ANC, for alternative entertainment - studio 23 ...

i think anc newscasters are way better than abs (and even gma) newscasters who are mere newsreaders. whenever i watch ricky carandang, pinky webb, carmina, etc. dishing out the news and probing their guests objectively i cant help but admire and compare them with the likes of julius, karen, and even korina ... who disappoint me with their biases and personal interests (esp korina who's clearly eyeing the presidency for mar this early ... feeling first lady na).

yup meron ... the teaser was shown complete with the trademark mg1 main soundtrack ... plus the voice-over claiming na kapuso na ang f4. i hope they wont deny this by claiming na they were just referring to vic's n ken's series na pinalabas nila ...

i think twas pre-empted by abs's showing of mg1 rewind and eventual showing of mg2.

napanood ko din po yung confessions of asianovela addict na yun.kasi i support both channels naman kasi magaganda din po koreanovela sa gma esp. JITP. kaya lang medyo hindi rin ako agree dun sa teaser na yun kasi di ba sa mga animé nila ganun din naman ang ginawa nila. like yung slam dunk (from channel 13 then napunta sa 5), dragon ball (not dragonball GT) na galing naman sa channel 9, at yung magic knight rayearth na galing sa channel 2.

just watched dont give up on us with my nanay at festival mall alabang. in fairness, over half-full pa ang cinema 8 considering that its a weekday and midday pa. ang ganda talaga ng chemistry nla piolo and juday ... the best!

then pinakita yung coming movie nila richard and angel ... ngek, first time ko nakita umarte c richard ... walang kabuhay-buhay ... at sa totoo lang, wala syang X-factor. gwapo sya pero flat ... walang kinang. and angel ... parang wala lang ... at ang story based on the teaser ... lalong wala lang. tapos sabi nung voice-over: "ang number 1 loveteam sa bansa" :confused: ... hellur ... kinilabutan ako ... makes me wonder if si annabelle ang gumawa ng script nung voice-over.

I saw the Filipino passion for the komiks in the ‘70s and early ‘80s when the komiks were the Bible then of Pinoys from school kids, college students to even housewives and professionals.

Those were the days when komiks magazines were displayed in the streets and sidewalks, for rent, with people of all ages filling up long benches. Komiks-reading was in vogue then.

TonyVelasquez’ story about Kenkoy and Rosing. Uncle Mars Ravelo with his small town drama as well as legends of Darna, Captain Barbell, Lastikman and love stories like Maruja, Haydee and Rowena.

Even Brocka and Ishmael Bernal had their own films from komiks serials like Wanted: Perfect Mother and Vibora.

There were Francisco Coching and Carlo Caparas who were a class by themselves then. So was Jim Fernandez.

But the public romance with komiks came to pass. Suddenly they disappeared from the scene and our current culture. By the 90s they were passé.

I remember the komiks with last season’s fascination of television with fantasies. Instead of giving us slices of real life as soap does, they transformed traditional soap to fantasies and adventures, which used to be the domain of the komiks.

ABS-CBN started it with Marina in 2002. Again Krystala with GMA coming up with Darna, Encantadia and now Sugo and Etheria. With great expense, ABS came up with Kampanerang Kuba and now Panday which are originally komiks materials.

But observers of Pinoy television must notice that slowly, the interest is waning. Darna and Encantadia and Marina before then, used to have ratings in the 40s. If they scored less than 40 percent rating, that was their bad day.

Not anymore. Sugo and Etheria have current ratings now lower than 33 percent. Sometimes even in high 20s. Of course, we can explain that!

Of course, ABS-CBN’s Gulong ng Palad, a traditional Filipino soap -- a small town drama of simple folk -- is giving a good fight as it inches to improve on the competition each day. Real life drama vs. fantasy.

And there’s Mga Anghel na Walang Langit -- with an interesting story for a tearjerker, with no big stars, only kids and seasoned performers and topnotch director Maryo J. delos Reyes -- holding its own now with Sugo, its competitor in its evening slot. Again, real soap vs. action fantasy.

To think that MAWL was originally conceived as a two-season soap and unlike Kampanerang Kuba and Ikaw Ang Lahat sa Akin which cost a lot of money to produce with big stars, it is performing even better now in the ratings. Imagine besting Sugo in some days! Like Sugo, 24.9% vs. MAWL, 29.7% last last 9.

So I feel that the sign for these action-fantasies and costumed adventure series is on the wall. Their days of public interest and patronage are numbered. I applaud even if I am just the only one applauding. I shout for joy even if mine is just a voice in the dark, now. I am for more realism on TV.

Soon our TV people will get tired of fiction and fantasy and go back and look at us, normal people for inspiration. Human beings have more stories to tell than flying maidens and talking birds and princesses of imagined kingdoms. Real stories much better than fiction.

Even if Andrea del Rosario looks and behaves not as a high school student and Cherie Gil has transformed herself to a priestess of overacting (how come when she used to be excellent), I still would take Gulong ng Palad and all the stories about life in a typical barrio, town or city in my TV fare.

Granted that we need to escape from the harsh realities of life and enjoy some escapism in our TV fare, tila sobrang escapism na yata kung we have gubat boy in the class on Sunday, a local version of Thumbelina on early afternoon and two more hours of fantastic flying beings on evenings!

My God, what would happen to us with too much fantasy in our TV diet? We won’t even know how our neighbors or people like us live. Children may believe that even the birds and the bees can talk, that with black magic they can be pretty.

Enough is enough.

Ayon sa aming mga nakausap, paborito at tila lyamado sina Jimmy Marquez ng Cebu at Kris Lawrence ng California. Underdog dito si Tata na isang nars mula sa Iloilo.

Experienced singers sina Jimmy at Kris. Alam natin na naging member ng banda si Jimmy. Naging back-up singer siya ng ilang kilalang singers, tulad ni Anna Fegi.

UST students pick best TV shows, hosts
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) will honor the choices of television programs and personalities of its students for 2005 during the awarding ceremonies of the 2nd USTV Students Choice Awards on Jan. 20, 6 p.m. at the UST Medicine Auditorium, España, Manila. UST Rector Rev. Fr. Tamerlane Lana, O.P. will lead the awarding ceremonies.


Carrying the theme, "Tele–Tomasino: A Critical Appreciation of Television," the awards, organized by the Office of the Secretary General, Office for Student Affairs, Central Student Council and Student Organizations Coordinating Council, will cover television programs aired between May 2004 and Sept. 2005. Through the 2nd USTV Students’ Choice Awards UST intends to promote media awareness, particularly television, to its more than 30,000 student population and eventually to enable the students to form their critique based on Thomasian values anchored on the Gospel.

The panel of consultants headed by Rev. Fr. Isidro C. Abaño, O.P., UST Secretary General, includes Rev. Fr. Rolando V. de la Rosa, O.P., former UST Rector and chairman of the Commission on Higher Education; Ambassador Henrietta de Villa, former ambassador to the Holy See; Rev. Fr. Solid jab from Morales, and straight right hands, but Pacquiao countered with two combinations. Morales played possum against the ropes and caught Pacquiao coming in. Pacquiao backed Morales to the ropes and landed clean shots to the chin, and Morales responded with powerful blows to the head that knocked back Pacquiao.

Morales returned to the jab, and looked like he could control the fight in center ring. But Pacquiaos body shots sent him to the ropes, and Morales retreated as Pacquiao attacked. Morales caught Pacquiao with a counter as he came forward, but Pacquiao resumed the attack to body and head and put Morales down for the first time in his career. Morales rose, but Pacquiao attacked again and dropped Morales against the ropes. Referee Kenny Bayless waved it off at 2:33, and Pacquiao won by TKO.

KBS producer Kim Jong-sik has worked on many popular dramas: Autumn Story, Winter Ballad, Yellow Handkerchief and Full House, to name a few. He reported that of the seasonal dramas, Autumn Story had the highest ratings in Korea, followed by Winter Ballad. He said that Summer Scent did not do too well. He also reported that the next seasonal drama will be Spring Waltz, which will be shown in Spring 2006. It will emphasize flowers. In Korea, the flowers start blooming first in the South and then move up to the North. That means that filming of Spring Waltz will start in the South and then move northward as the flowers peak in the North. Mr. Kim also acknowledged that viewers' reactions have a significant impact on the outcome of the dramas. In Korea, the dramas are not completed in full before the first episode is aired. This has its advantages since Korea is very high tech and viewers' ratings can be monitored by the minute. This alerts producers and screenwriters to which storylines and stars are popular, and allows the producers and screenwriters to change the script or stars along the way to avoid low ratings. For example, Mr. Kim disclosed that the ending for Conditions of Love (which ended the same weekend as the symposium) was changed in response to viewer reactions.
Producer of 'Winter Sonata' to Start Shooting New Drama This Week

SEOUL, April 18 (Yonhap) -- Yoon Suk-ho, producer of the popular South Korean TV drama series "Winter Sonata," will this week begin filming the last of his TV dramas named after the four seasons of the year, Yoon's company said Monday.

"We will start shooting the new drama titled 'Spring Waltz' on Tuesday," Jo Seong-woo of Yoon's Color Co. said.

Yoon's Color is an outside supplier of programs to TV networks established by Yoon, who also works as a senior producer of the public broadcaster KBS.

The star producer has released "Autumn Fairy Tale," "Winter Sonata" and "Summer Scent," depicting three tragic love stories mainly set in three seasons.

In particular, Winter Sonata drew a wide audience in neighboring Asian countries, including Japan, and contributed to the "Hallyu" phenomenon, or the Asia-wide boom of South Korean pop culture. The drama earned its lead actor Bae Yong-joon stardom in Asia.

"Spring Waltz" will be the first of the series to include overseas locations in Europe or Canada, Jo said, adding that domestic filming will be done mostly on a small island of the southern province of Jeolla.

The company expects it will cost about 5-6 billion won (US$4.9-5.9 million) in total to produce the 20-episode drama to be aired on KBS next spring.

"I feel a great burden because this will be the finale of the four-season drama series," Yoon said. "Like the previous three series, this drama will contain subjects that will arouse sympathy from the contemporary audience while depicting a beautiful love story."

ADVERTISING STANDARDS

D. TIME STANDARDS FOR NON-PROGRAM MATERIALS

1. Commercial interruptions shall be scheduled in such a manner as to provide continuous viewing pleasure.

2. All networks shall regulate the placement, duration and frequency of non-traditional advertisements so as not to duly intrude into the program content.

3. Commercial load for television in Metro Manila shall not exceed eighteen (18) minutes per hour in foreign or local programs, inclusive of breakspots. The commercial load for provincial TV stations shall not exceed twenty (20) minutes per program hour, whether foreign or local.

4. Coverages of news, special events, public affairs programs and sports shall be exempt from program interruption standards. However, the aggregate number of commercial minutes per clockhour shall be observed, except in international sports events where the commercial load may be increased on a case to case basis upon approval of the Standards Authority but in no case shall it exceed twenty (20) commercial minutes per hour. The responsibilities on implementation of the number of commercial minutes allowed per hour remains with the station. These terms and conditions shall appear in the contract covering spot/program sales.

5. Direct competing products, services or firms may be placed within the same commercial cluster provided they are not aired back-to-back.

6. Programs with multiple sponsorship may avail of product CBB's bumpers.

7. The following schedule of penalties shall be imposed on any station found to be violating the above rules:

a. For airing commercial materials in excess of limitations - a confiscatory fine of the equivalent amount of the commercial in excess plus 20% of the aggregate total amount of the overload.

For airing back-to-back of direct competing products, services or firms in the same commercial cluster - cost of commercials in the cluster.

Broadcaster Ernie Baron, 65


ABS-CBN correspondent Ernie Baron, known for his moniker "the walking encyclopedia," passed away Monday morning at the age of 65, ANC reported.

His attending physician Cesar Berroya said Baron was declared dead on arrival at 9:30 a.m. at Medical Center Muntinlupa.

He said Baron may have died of silent myocardial infection or of diabetes complications.

Baron's daughter, Shirley, said his father did not answer when called for breakfast on Monday morning. She said she immediately barged into the room and rushed his unconscious father to the hospital.

Baron hosted the program Knowledge Power over radio DZMM and was the weather reporter for ABS-CBN's primetime news program TV Patrol.

Mr. Wowowee now Mr. Tourism

It’s confirmed: Wowowee host Willie Revillame (photo) has been enlisted as endorser of the Department of Tourism (DOT) which will feature him in the new posters and billboards proclaiming these 7,100 islands (high tide) as "Wowowee Philippines!" The previous DOT blurb, with Regine Velasquez as endorser, was "Wow Philippines!"

According to a Funfare DPA, Willie had a meeting last week with DOT people, led by DOT Secretary Ace Durano, to finalize the deal which will see Mr. Wowowee promoting tourism not only on posters and billboards but also during DOT-sponsored events here and abroad.

The idea of getting Willie as DOT endorser was inspired by a recent Funfare story about Wowowee being a favorite (a "must") destination among Balikbayans thrilled to say "Hi!" to their families and relatives abroad straight from the ABS-CBN Studio, beamed "live" to various places around the globe via The Filipino Channel.

Believe it or not, but the homecoming of a Balikbayan is not complete without a visit to Wowowee which plays up the Balikbayans’ presence in the studio by grouping them according to their places (abroad) of origin and inviting them to join the show’s fun contests (Biga-10, etc.). Most of the Balikbayans donate a few dollars which are in turn flowed back to the show’s mostly needy contestants.

On Wednesday, according to the Funfare DPA, Willie will be formally introduced as "Mr. Toursim" (something to that effect) at a press conference to be presided by Ace Durano.

Since he turned over a new leaf and became a "good boy," Willie has been enjoying a lot of success. Good karma.

Incidentally, Juan Emmanuel Almoro Revillame, first child of Willie and wife Liz Almoro, will be baptized on Sunday, Jan. 29, 3 p.m. at Santuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park, Makati City.

Star Cinema’s offering her a comedy, the mother of three bading, to be played by Diether Ocampo, John Lloyd Cruz, and Joross Gamboa. She is through (almost) with an episode for “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”

Her last picture was the award-winning “Mano Po 3,” an entry to the 2004 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Ate Vi recalled that she was offered by GMA to host “Magpa-kailanman,” but she said no out of delicadeza. She was already doing movies for Star Cinema (sister company of ABS-CBN, which already has a similar drama anthology, “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” hosted by Charo Santos). Mel Tiangco took over hosting “Magpakailanman.”

“Kahit wala akong pelikula may raket naman ako sa commercial,” Ate Vi said.

The Hospital" Could Be Another First For Philippine Television!!!

It was confirmed through my informants in Taiwan, that the Philippines, among other countries, will at this time, be ahead of Taiwan in the airing of Jerry Yan's upcoming series "The Hospital".

This is because his expected CTV airing in Taiwan has either been pushed back or put on hold due to the request of the camp of Angela Zhang to have her series aired first on the station in conjunction with the release of her "Pandora" album.

Mabuhay ang mga Daoists sa Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang Philippine F4 fans! If judging by the plugs that Channel 2 started to broadcast on this series, it will more likely be this way, since Jerry had more fans overseas than in his native Taiwan as of this time.

Hindi rin pumasa ang commercial model na si Jay Roa (siya 'yong ipinag-drive ni Kris Aquino sa San Mig TV commercial.

Natanong namin si Ms. Linggit tungkol sa final casting ng celebrity edition ng highly rated at mega-successful na Pinoy Big Brother.

Pati siya ay hindi pa alam ang final cast of the Big 12.

"Sa Tuesday pa mami-mili ang mga taga-Endemol kung sinu-sino ang kasama. Doon sila pipili sa ipi-present namin. Kaya kami nag-photo shoot at nag-prepare nang maaga, gahul kasi talaga sa oras," balita ni Ms. Linggit sa inyong lingkod nang makausap namin over the phone.

'Di man inaamin nang lubusan ni Ms. Linggit, ramdam na ramdam namin sa aming pag-uusap na si Osang ay isa sa mga ipi-present nila.

Nakaumang naman ang demanda ng GMA-7 kay Rosanna Roces at sa ABS-CBN, kapag nakasali sa listahan ang name ng lola na dating bold star at former hostess ng Startalk.

"May kontrata pa rin si Osang. Wait and see lang ang attitude ng mga taga-Siyete. 'Pag narinig nilang na-announce ni Osang sa Feb. 4, ipa-file kaagad ang demanda at restraining order," say sa amin ng isang GMA-7 insider.

PBB Celebrity Edition Premieres on February 4

Preparations for the much-awaited celebrity edition of Pinoy Big Brother are now in full swing with only few weeks left before the ball starts rolling for the 12 celebrities who will take on the new challenges of Big Brother!



The celebrity edition of the phenomenal reality show is scheduled to premiere on the night of February 4 on ABS-CBN. According to Linggit Tan, one of Pinoy Big Brother’s business unit heads, the opening night of the celebrity edition will be very different from what happened on August 21, when Big Winner Nene and the other 11 original housemates went inside Kuya’s house for the first time.



On the opening night, the 12 celebrity housemates will be brought to a special venue, where they will be presented to the public for the first time. After the grand presentation, a motorcade will take them to Big Brother’s house.



“PBB celebrity edition will run for six weeks (42 days) that’s why it's a fast-paced and very thrilling experience not only for the 12 housemates but also for the viewers,” Tan said. The nomination and eviction process will happen twice a week until four housemates are left inside the house.



The New Housemates



She also explained that the new batch of housemates will not only consist of actors and actresses. There’s also a possibility that well-known athletes, singers, directors and even politicians could be part of the new batch.



As of the moment, the lineup for the 12 housemates is not yet complete. The auditions are still on going but only on an appointment basis. “Hindi na tayo nag-o-open audition, those who want to join, they call us and we setup an interview,” Tan disclosed during an interview.



The staff of the show started the audition process last month where about 150 celebrities, including some big names in showbizness, showed up in a matter of two days. Just like those who auditioned during the first run of Pinoy Big Brother, the housemate wannabes had to go through several VTR interviews and even psychological tests and physical examinations. “May psychological test din sila at physical exams, required talaga yun kasi stressful yun condition yung sa loob (ng bahay), they should be physically fit and have a sound mind, nakikita kasi yun sa mga test, so kapag hindi ni-recommend ng mga psychologist, hindi namin sila pinipili,” Tan explained.



She also added that the 12 lucky celebrities who will be picked as housemates will participate in the contest for a cause. During the opening night, the housemates will be asked to state how much of their winnings will they donate to their chosen charity if in case they become the Big Winner of the celebrity edition.



A facelift for Kuya’s house!



With new faces to grace the place, Big Brother’s house will have some exciting changes before the opening night. Although they will not renovate the structure of the house, Tan said that the house’s interior will undergo a facelift.



Aside from Pinoy Big Brother Primetime, Pinoy Big Brother Uplate and Studio 23’s Si Kuya, Kabarkada Mo! will also start airing this February. Keep posted on ABS-CBN and this site to get the latest updates on Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition.

i dont think claudine is going to be a kapuso ... at least, not this year ... but if she opts to be becoz of raymart ... then, good luck and riddance ...

juday has several projects in the line for abs so i dont think she'll move out of abs ... at least not for the next 2 yrs ...
