Korean Wave Cultural Center opens at Incheon International Airport

The Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) is responding to the overwhelming popularity of Korean entertainment and entertainers overseas by opening The Korean Wave Cultural Center at the KNTO Duty Free Shop at Incheon International Airport. The center is located at Gate 46 and features a large-screen TV airing some of Korea's most popular dramas/TV miniseries, including Winter Sonata , Autumn in My Heart , Daejangeum , and more. Not only can you view these programs for free, but fans can also take their picture along side pictures from your favorite movies and dramas! There are plenty of other interesting things related to Korean dramas that visitors can enjoy looking at. The shop is open from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm.

The location of the hall was specially selected due to the large number of flights that depart for China and Southeast Asia near Gate 46. The Korean Wave has surged throughout China and Southeast Asia. This hall will help to satisfy the interests of fans throughout the region.

To celebrate the opening of The Korean Wave Cultural Center on February 4, 2005, the first 400 people to purchase items at the KNTO Duty Free Shop will receive the Songs from Korea VCD.

2/2/05 – Choi Ji Woo will be a guest star in the movie “Shadowless Sword (무영검, 無影劍)” starring Lee Suh Jin and and Shin Hyun Joon. She plays a princess who comes across King of Balhae (발해의 왕) Dae Jung Hyun (대정현, played by Lee Suh Jin) and female warrior Yun So Ha (연소하, played by Yoon Soh Yi) and involves in an accident, but then she solves the problem for Yun So Ha. CJW is scheduled to stay in China on 2/25 and 2/26 to film the movie, and then she will return to Korea on 2/27. The famous “New Line Cinema (뉴라인시네마)” which produced “Lord of the Rings” is investing 30% in this movie with production cost around 8 billion Won. “New Line Cinema” plans to distribute this movie to Europe and USA.

hi! i'm new to tsinoy and i was drawn here because of my love for STH. hope i am welcome here.

first time i saw CJW sa WS, i thought hindi bagay yung short hair nya sa kanya, but her face was angelic. when i got hooked on STH, i noticed how she gets more and more beautiful. kahit anong hairstyle bumabagay! kahit pa naka-eyeglasses sya, bagay! and her skin is so smooth and so flawless, she looks like a japanese porcelain doll!

in a sense, parang her characters always breaks my heart. sobrang aping-api sya na you can't help but be affected. gusto mong ipabugbog or sugurin yung mga umaapi sa kanya. and this is why we simply can't help but be drawn to her. that's how good an actress she is.

outside of her dramas naman, doon lumalabas yung beauty and elegance nya. sobrang ganda nya, pero hindi nakakasawa tignan. very majestic and aristocratic ang dating. she has the grace, beauty and culture that the likes of grace kelly and audrey hepburn have. classic beauty talaga.

regarding her love life, i read somewhere na naging sila daw ni SSH (of EL1)?!? is this true? for me, bagay sya kay KSW and BYJ, but since mas madaming kilig moments sila ni KSW, i'm leaning more towards KSW.

Interesting facts
Byun Hun received 5 billion won for his role in this movie. It became the highest record in history. When the movie almost ended its filming, he broke up with Hae Gyo. It spent speculation on whether Ji Woo was the cause of it due to the bed scene with him to cause Hae Gyo to get jealous over it.

Byun Hun had wanted to treat it as a warm up. But he later realized that it wasn’t easy to make a comedy. It is not easy to make others laugh with a straight face. He was a flirt in the movie but he can’t accept this kind of ‘jerk’ in real life. Thus the more he acted, the angrier he became as it was tough for him. But still, he took it in his stride. He joked that it was still better than being sandwiched between women. The 3 actresses pit against each other in the clothes they wear for the poster. He joked that he could only sit and wait till a moustache grew on his face during the wait.

No one expected Ji Woo to act as a comedian. She stressed that she didn’t like failures so she competed against Byun Hun and the other 2 actresses. Upon watching the steamy scenes in the Korean premiere, she was so shy that she hid behind a chair. She had wished to resign at first but later liked the story too much to give up. When filming the naked scene, she only revealed her back and taped her bosom. She added the licking back suggestion but was hesitant on whether it could work.

Ji Woo and Byun Hun did not reveal their flight time to Japan to attend the Tokyo film festival for 5 days. Yet their 400 fans gave them a warm welcome at the airport. They wore white jackets when stepping out of the customs. 500 security guards helped them out. In one program, the popular SMAP even tried to show how much they ‘loved her. One even tried to charm her by impersonating Bae Yong Jun. Another charmed her with his fluent Korean making others jealous.

When both attended the movie preview to meet reporters, both wore black clothes. Ji Woo kept on looking at Byun Hun and he also looked back gently at her. However, many could see that they were uneasy. Byun Hun kept touching his nose and lips non-stop. Ji Woo’s eyes kept turning and smiled exaggeratingly when Hyun Hun and the director talked about her. She exclaimed that Byun Hun had the nickname ‘smiling killer’ in Korea so any woman who watched this movie would be charmed by him. Byun Hun praised Ji Woo for being accommodating and almost perfect. She did not have any airs at all. He didn’t get along well with many actresses but she was easy to talk to and he felt relaxed working with her.

During the movie premiere, Ji Woo got to know about the earthquake incident that happened. She quickly donated US$10,000 after Yong Jun, Dong Gan and Byun Hun. She wanted to repay her fans. The movie ticket price even chalked up by 240 times. Two 60 year old fans came all the way from Hokkaido to meet her in her hotel to get her signature. They had no place to stay as all hotel rooms in nearby hotels were all taken up by fans. Ji Woo let both stay in one of the rooms in her presidential suite, isn’t she sweet?

The captivating romantic tale has not only been hailed as a true winner, but also turned into a box office triumph. It really comes as no surprise that Japan's movie industry was itching to get its fingers on the cinematic pearl to come up with a remake , which finally led to a record deal over $5.5 million.

Interview held during shooting of Winter Sonata at KBS station in January or February 2002 (del sis, this thing during the filming of Winter Sonata)

Host: Is the shooting very hard?
CJW: Due to non-stop shooting of this drama, I hardly have sleep recently.

BYJ: I slept four hours last night, and it was the longest one I had since the start shoot of this drama.

Host: PD, are you satisfied with their acting skills?

PD: Yes.

Host: Any dissatisfactory part?

PD: No.

Host: Really? (Both BYJ and CJW were shy with their heads down.)

PD: Only that sometimes their physical status was too weak (under the severe winter) to follow my progress. They might have suffered high pressure of this.

Host: Any opinion on PD, Mr. BJY?

BYJ: I dare not to say any opinion, but referring to his comment that our physical status was weak, I do have something to say. There was one time that PD fell into sleep immediately right after he called a “cue”, fortunately, there was a table at the front of him as a buffer, or otherwise, he might have got hurt. PD is a very nice person, very friendly privately, but he becomes rather harsh and demanded during the work.

Host: Mr. BYJ, you become very popular now due to the WLS. Do you think the chief male role is quite suitable for you? (thinks the host was meaning “match” or “similar”.)

BYJ: Yes, I think.

Host: PD, how do you think what part of Ms. CJW is most attractive?

PD: Her eyes. Her eyes are soft, gentle, and full of sentiment. In addition, her lip shape is beautiful when she is smiling.


Host: (He looked at CJW…) Oh, her lips spread widely now! (The host is famous of his humor, and he was hinting that CJW was happy to hear PD’s and BYJ’s comments. CJW used her hand to cover her mouth upon hearing this.) So, what about BYJ?

PD: I feel he is like the prince in cartoon.

Host: You have been working together on this drama for quite some time. You must get along quite well, right? Say something interesting Ms CJW.

CJW: Something interesting? For instance, one time, PD called “cue” and fell into sleep immediately. Also, there was a scene that YJ oppa was asleep, and he did fall into sleep and snored while shooting. As everybody was lack of sleep, almost all interesting interludes were related to sleep.

Host: Ms CJW, what would you do if the WLS story does happen to your real life?

CJW: I think there’s possibility that such story does happen in real life. In that case, I would be doing the same as Yoojin did.

BYJ: Me too.

Host: Oh, then PYH and PSM would be too miserable. (BYJ laughed loud…) Talk about your feeling and thought towards PSM and CJW respectively.

BYJ: SM is a very natural one, and in drama, she acted in accordance with her instinct and interpretation. Our JW is very honest, very pure. (In using the term “our JW”, seemly he is very familiar with JW.)

Host: Ms CJW, talk about your feeling and thought of PYH and BYJ.

CJW: YH is younger, yet he is mature and considerate. (Upon hearing this, the host asked CJW “did he do something to you?” CJW covered her mouth and smiled.) YJ oppa is the oldest one among us. He has always been like a leader guiding us. He is a nice oppa.

Host: Can PD tell us a sketchy ending of this drama?

PD: I am not sure yet, but I also expect a happy ending.

Host: In the end, please say something to the audience.

PD: Thank you for all your support to WLS. I am planning on next work, and hope to gain your support continuously.

CHOI JIWOO : The most radiant actress

Choijiwoo of the Korean sensation in Japan Choi Jiwoo is going great guns these days. After a smash-hit drama "Stairs in Heaven", she took part in a movie "Everybody Has Secrets". She is working energetically on both TV drama and on-screen.

An editor of Madame Figaro Korea, Kim Solre who knows Jiwoo well. S/he tells us Jiwoo's new side.

Jiwoo has been so busy that even any top-name star envies her. Just when she had appeared at a film publicity of "Everybody has Secrets" somewhere in Korea, and she visited Japan for the PR of 2005 Korea-Japan partnership year. Moreover she had to attend a meeting for her foreign fans. Anyway there is no actress as busy as Jiwoo now in Korea.

I am sure she is having very happiest days in her actress life. Choi Jiwoo was born in 1975. She passed MBC audition in 1994 and came out in the next year. This is 10th year from her debut. A TV drama, co-starred with Bae Yongjoon "First Love" made her rise to stardom. Since then, she has been making a record of all wins and no defeats on her dramas. There are not many actresses in Korean show business who are keeping their stardom strongly as much as Jiwoo.

Jiwoo is like white drawing paper. We can draw any picture on it. She has played a particular type character by now. In "First Love" or "First Kiss", she absolutely played a good person. I can't find any wrongness in her characters. She has a magnetic personality that automatically attracts people. Because of this, her pure image is very popular among show business. These are the names of her co-starred actors until now. Jang Donggun, Ryu Siwon, Ahn Jaewook, Kim Seungwoo, Lee Byunghun, Bae Yongjoon, Kwon Sangwoo. I can say there is no such actress except for Jiwoo. In other words, actors whom many women love appear in love story dramas absolutely with Jiwoo.

Her frangible and soft beauty has a power which makes us believe that unthinkable sad love in a drama can exist in real-life.

What is actual Jiwoo like?
She has done good deeds as "a person-Choi Jiwoo". In May 2004, she invited 1000 of orphans and handicapped children to a popular magic show. In February, she contributed 10million wons for cancer-ridden children. But all this is done without publicity. At the magic show she said her thought of the day. "I had today's invitation-event for these children because through this magic show, I would like them to have dreams and pure mind like I had with playing soap bubbles in my childhood. I wish today will be a day they spend with thinking only good things."

Most her roles in dramas were pure and innocent though, she played square women on screen. Even though she has made smash hits continuously on TV, unfortunately she couldn't have shown her lovely humorousness on screen so far. Even so, she is keeping on trying. After a smash hit drama "Stairs in Heaven", everybody took interest in her next project. In the middle of February, her next starring movie title was announced. It was "Everybody has Secrets". Fans curiosity was roused very much because it was a two big stars chosen work. And then in the middle of July, the work was unveiled. This is her 6th film. Would she be able to become a box-office actress?

Let's talk about the movie. The movie material is romantic sexual relationships among three sisters and a man. Jiwoo's role is the second daughter, Han Sonyon who is a bookworm in her twenties. Sonyon is like a natural treasure because she has no love experience. >From love to sex, she gets all answers to her questions from books. There is a man who makes an amorous approach to her.

He is her younger sister's boyfriend. Sonyon feels thunder-like love to the man whom she is not forgiven to love. But she is attracted to him instinctively. Obsessed by love this graduate student studies sex with a Freudian psychology book and pornography video that she stole from her brother's room. At the day when he accepted her younger sister's marriage propose, of all things she had a love affair with him. She tries practicing sexual techniques learned from the video. She looks funny but putting her heart into sex.... still she is cute. I can't say the end result of this love but what I can say to you is she became a master of love. And one more, if you look forward to Jiwoo's sexual exposure too much, you will be disappointed!!

What is actual Jiwoo personality?
Frankly speaking of my impression, I have met her some times before; real Jiwoo is much more beautiful and attractive. Her perfect figure shaped-up by dance (Dance is her major in her first university. Her hands and legs are long and slender.) makes her movements elegant and she has fair, milk-white skin. Soon after debut, her lovely face brightened with hope for the future. Luckily her dream came true.

When I met her at a location site of "Stairs in Heaven", she had a calm, composed expression on her face that I hadn't seen before. She seemed to have got confidence as actress. Actually, she wandered about cold winter town with wearing evening dress for drama shooting courageously.
And even when she was resting her worn body in a sofa, once the camera is on, she got full of energy immediately. A scene that she and co-star KwonSangwoo eat rice cake looked natural, as if it was a documentary.

Choi Jiwoo became a leading actress of the Korean Boom. Now she came to be able to perform a grown-up woman with flexibility. Even in interview, she meets photographer's requests with cheerful smile.

10 years later, she must be loved much more in all over the world and be more mature but still frank, soft and honest. Moreover, in the past, now and in the future, she is always sweet and lovely.

Choi Ji Woo is luminous in person. It is difficult not to stare at her flawless, porcelain white skin, rosebud lips and lustrous, cascading hair without feeling in awe of her physical beauty.

But it is almost seven o’clock on a cold Thursday evening, and the task of enduring multiple rounds of press interviews with reporters has taken its toll on the 29-year-old Korean actress.

Choi is seated in a 15th floor suite at the W Hotel in Seoul, South Korea, in her formal capacity as the face of Christian Dior Parfums’ DiorSnow – the brand’s newest line of whitening skincare products.

Choi Ji Woo is the face of Christian Dior’s DiorSnow range of skincare products and will star in the brand’s television and print advertisements.
The actress, who shot to fame by starring alongside the hunky Bae Yong Jun in South Korea’s 2002 hit television drama, Winter Sonata, appears accommodating but restless as she tackles earnest queries on fame, life, love, beauty and her latest role as Dior’s first Korean face.

“My role is to make sure my skin is translucent and luminous so that the people will go and buy the product,” says Choi, who will appear in a television commercial and a series of print advertisements for the brand.

“And because I am the first Korean to represent Dior, I feel all the more responsible for projecting a good image.

“The advertisements will be shown not only in South Korea but in all the Asian countries, so I feel it’s a good opportunity to share the beauty of Korean women with the world.”

She is not the first Korean celebrity to have caught the attention of an international brand.

Last year, Maybelline New York became the first international company to use a Korean star to promote its products, featuring 18-year-old pop star BoA in its print advertisements and commercials.

Shortly after, actress Lee Mi Yeon was chosen as the Korean face of Lancome, to star alongside the brand’s other models, Ines Sastre and Elizabeth Jagger, in its advertisements this year.

Even Korean boy band Shinhwa clinched themselves a contract with Swiss watchmaker Rado to appear as its models for Asia.

Choi is the second Asian star to grace Dior’s advertisements.

Just last year, Hong Kong singer and actress Kelly Chen became the face of the brand’s Capture 60/80 range of anti- ageing products.

“I enjoyed shooting the advertisement, and it was the first time a team I had worked with took such good care of me and had been so kind. I am very happy with the outcome,” says Choi of the commercial.

The actress says she is moved to be one of the growing number of Asian faces to represent international brands.

When asked about what she does to keep flawless skin, well, flawless, Choi doesn’t appear as disciplined as one might think.

“If you are born with good skin you can be very complacent about skincare.

“When I was shooting Winter Sonata it was during winter time and the weather was very cold. My skin became very aggravated.

“It was only then that I began caring for my skin. When I became an actress, I never thought that I would have to implement a strict skincare regimen until now,” she admits.

But when she is then asked for her definition of beauty, Choi quips: “I always find that question very difficult to answer.

“When it comes to beauty I think it is all about being responsible for how you look after your skin.

“It is important how you care for it, how much time and effort you spend on it, because it is an investment.

“Now, I definitely use the DiorSnow range in my skincare regimen and as a spokesperson, I have to use it in order to tell other people about it.

“But I don’t think there is a single definition of beauty.”

Another reporter prods Choi for skincare tips.

“I think putting on make-up is important but so is cleansing the skin.

“Caring for your skin is important, but so is looking after your body and your spirit and consuming good food, healthy food, to get healthy skin.”

Choi is uncomfortable with the way the media has portrayed Asian women as a dissatisfied lot who crave for Western features, which are perceived to be the ideals of beauty.

“I don’t think I’m in a position to say whether going to extremes to change your appearance is good or bad. I don’t think I can make judgements on that, but I think it has to do with self-satisfaction.

“I think many press articles about these women have done very little good and are sometimes very far-fetched because they do not represent the majority of Korean women. I think the media has blown (the issue) out of proportion.”

She remains forthcoming when one reporter pries into her love life, and professes to have never experienced true love.

“I’ve never really experienced it myself but I guess that type of love could exist.

“I would be attracted to someone I feel very comfortable with, someone who respects what I do and understands and thinks the same way,” says Choi, adding: “He has to be good-looking.”

i'm not very familiar sa rumor na yan na ayaw kay CJW ng mga BYJ fans and that they became "on". if ever, rumors lang yan siguro. all i know is that they are very comfortable working w/ each other. nung visit nga ni YJ sa Japan last apr 2004, may message pa sa kanya si Jiwoo. anyway, lets just hope na BYJ will accept the role for the historical drama & that CJW will be his lead lady. puro rumors pa lang naman yung going around the internet but the BYJ camp promised that they will immediately inform the fans once BYJ has decided on the role.

The organiser of the "BD Music Concert" Yedang Entertainment Co. announced that Jiwoo is going to make her appearance in the concert on 6th and 7th May in Tokyo, Japan. There will be three shows. The concert will be held at the super grand "Tokyo International Forum Concert Hall" (hope that the translation is correct) which can house 5000 people.
