jewels, grabe yung sagutan nila JG at madam choi last night. maganda ang episode tonight. magso-sorry sya sa kay Myeong-Yi. tragic din ang death nya kaya nakakapanghinayang din. from her conversations with JG, i was touched when JG said na napalitan na ng dugo't pawis ng mga taong napahirapan nila (mga choi's) kaya bitiwan na nya yung hawak nya sa mga palad nya (pera, kayamanan at kapangyarihan). and when JG said that if she's not gonna surrender to the authorities, Geum-Young will suffer all the consequences. dun sya medyo natakot kasi alam nyang walang kasalanan si Geum-Young.

when she went to the tomb and said sorry to Myeong-Yi, i felt her grievances especially when she said "sorry for having been a part of her greedy family". feeling nya kasalanan ang maging member ng family nya. on the other hand, it's her choice naman kasi if she wanted to be like her family. just like Geum-Young, she wanted to take revenge against JG but she keeps on following the teachings and mentoring of Lady Han.

i have mentioned this earlier in this thread the things that happened in JITP happened in reality. hindi lang sya basta fiction or basta teleseries. but if you will look at the patterns of the life of the characters, umikot ang story nila sa revenge, greed, professional rivalry. but at the end, it will be balanced will perseverance, forgiveness and love.

lady choi was greedy for powers, rivals with lady han's professionalism and revenge against JG but at the end, she said sorry to Myeong-Yi (to whom everything have started). JG wanted revenge for her mom, was excellent to everything she did, Yul-yee rivals with her, persevered and forgave.

i've seen the moral lesson here. we're only humans...yes! we're not exempted to the temptations of hatred, revenge, greed and rivalry. but only if we would know how to respond properly to every situation and let love, peace and perseverance, then life will be easy for us.

Lady Choi steps out and begins to walk, with each step she remembers the way Lady Jung and Lady Han begged her to do the right thing before they each passes away. Lady Choi kneels in front of Myung-Ee’s grave to talk to Myung-Ee. Lady Choi wonders how life would be different had Myung-Ee never saw her putting poision in the queen’s food, and how things would be if Myung-Ee and her switched lives. She remembers her childhood laughters with Myung-Ee and Lady Han. Outside the cave, she sees a red ribbon hanging on a tree like when she was little and she tries to get the ribbon. Lady Choi gets the ribbon but slips and falls off the cliff. She grabs a twig hanging on the side of the cliff and remembers a similar time when she was little. Back then Lady Choi was scared to jump off but Myung-Ee and Lady Han caught her, so Lady Choi smiles and lets go of the grip on the twig and Lady Choi falls into the cliff of open forest.

Min Jung-Ho tells Jang-Geum where Lady Choi’s body was found and Jang-Geum replies that’s near her mother’s grave. Lady Min and Chan-Ee are saddened by the news of Lady Choi dying but Yun-Saeng reminds them how Lady Jung and Han died. Right Prime Minister Oh and Choi Pan Sul are given the death penalty. Geum-Young is to be banned from the palace forever. Before Geum-Young leaves, she sends a child messenger to get Jang-Geum. Geum-Young hands a letter to Jang-Geum saying it’s a letter Jang-Geum’s mother wrote to Jang-Geum. Lady Choi had told Geum-Young to detroy it but Geum-Young kept it.

Geum-Young leaves the palace. Min Jung-Ho tells her the only thing he can say to her is he’s sorry. Geum-Young replies if they meet again in the next life to please say to her anything but sorry. The king summons Jang-Geum to tell her he wishes to reward her. Jang-Geum tells the king and the lady queen she has 3 wishes. First is to restore Lady Han’s innocense. The king states he will and assigns the job to the lady queen. Next Jang-Geum tells the king her mother was a kitchen maid who was a scapegoat because she saw what she shouldn’t have. The then jae-jo sang gong is Lady Choi’s aunt. The lady queen is astonished and asks Jang-Geum if that’s why Lady Choi hated her so much. The king says he will clear Jang-Geum’s mother name as well and asks Jang-Geum what her third wish is.

At soo-rak-gan the maids wonder who the next kitchen head will be. Just then Jang-Geum arrives at soo-rak-gan dressed in sang-goong attire. A servant tells the maids to pay respect to Jang-Geum who is their new head. Jang-Geum tells the staff it’s time to prepare the king’s meal and smilingly asks Chan-Ee to help her. The medicine staff find out about Jang-Geum and is surprised. Min Jung-Ho tells them it’s just temporary as per Jang-Geum’s request to the king. The king tastes Jang-Geum’s food and praises her skills despite not being in the kitchen for such long time. The king continues to praise Jang-Geum.

Back at soo-rak-gan the nurses come to visit Jang-Geum and comment on her beautiful new attire. Lady Min and Chan-Ee try to talk up to Jang-Geum and asks Jang-Geum what’s going on. A nurse says Jang-Geum wants to be the kitchen head until an official head is selected. Lady Min asks Jang-Geum why and Jang-Geum states it’s because there is something she must do.

Alone, Jang-Geum reads her mother’s letter. In the letter her mother tells Jang-Geum to be the kitchen head and find her justice back. Jang-Geum goes around the houses of soo-rak-gan and watches as the child maids learn the ropes to kitchen life. Jang-Geum stops a running child and tells her not to run in the kitchen or else dust will be spread onto food.

Jang-Geum hallucinates Lady Han coming back to talk to her. Jang-Geum reaches out her hands to touch Lady Han but realizes she’s dreaming. Then she runs toward the place Lady Han burried her vinegar and weeps. Min Jung-Ho watches Jang-Geum. Later, Jang-Geum and Min Jung Ho walk in the kitchen field. Jang-Geum tells Min Jung Ho when her father was captured she started to feel guilty. When her mother passed away she began to miss her and feel guilty. Jang-Geum begins to cry as she recounts the happiness she felt as a child among her parents even though they were on the run. Min Jung-Ho draws her to comfort her and Jang-Geum cries leaning into his shoulder.

The king calls Jang-Geum. The king tells Jang-Geum when he was still a prince a little child delivered wine to him and begged him to take her into the palace to become a maid. The king asks Jang-Geum if she is that child and Jang-Geum replies yes. The king is elated Jang-Geum is that child whom he met as a prince.

i read ur post. kung kayo na-touch sa ginawa ni lady choi, well na touch rin naman ako, pero mas na touch ako kay geum-young. yung hindi nya sinunog ang sulat dahil hindi nya kaya, nang ibalik nya ito kay jang-geum. nang aminin nya rin kay jang-geum ang bigat na kanyang dala-dala sa buhay. pinagsisihan nya rin ang mga nang nyari at ginawa ng kanilang angkan.
on my observation kagabi, friends pa rin si JG and GY, hindi nga lang katulad ng dati dahil may lamat na. Sa mga nangnyari sa kanilang dalawa, they both understand the feelings at pasakit ng isat-isa, kaya hindi nila sinisisi ang isat-isa.
Nandoon pa rin ang love nila sa bawat isa.

Good morning jewels! Naiyak ako kagabi sa episode ng JITP. As in tulo luha talaga. Na-touch ako sa paghingi ng kapatawaran ni lady choi sa puntod ni myung-ee. talagang nakita mong nagpakumbaba siya para gawin yun. kung tutuusin mahirap yun dahil mataas ang angkan na pinanggalingan niyan. napansin ko na sa bandang-huli, lumambot na yung expression sa mukha niya lalo na nang ma-realize niya na si geum-young ang mananagot sa mga kasalanan nila at wala nang matitira para itayo ang angkan nila. hanggang sa huli, angkan pa rin nila ang inisip niya.


Naintindihan ko na kung bakit hindi na humingi ng kapatawaran si lady choi kay lady han - dahil natupad pala ni lady han ang pangarap nila sa kabila ng kung anong ginawa ni lady choi para hadlangan yun.

Iniisip ko nga paano kaya kung si myung-ee o si bae-kyung ang nasa angkan ng mga choi, ano kayang gagawin nila? pero choice na din yun ni lady choi. it's the love for her family and the power they had that pushed her to do such things. pwede din naman niyang hindi gawin yun eh, lalo na at magaling naman siya talaga.

kakaawa din si geum young. sana makita niya kaligayahan niya sa labas ng palasyo.

GY asked JG "What for?" tapos pinagsabihan ni JG si GY as a friend that she still have the time to restore her and her clan's reputation". hindi nakinig si GY and she pulled through with the plans of the choi's. on the other hand, JG knew that GY is following the teachings of Madam Jung and Lady Han before. there was even a time when GY opposed to what Lady Choi is asking her to do, but GY didn't do it because it'll harm people.

somehow, kita mo talaga na di pa rin nagbabago yung dalawa sa isa't isa but too many walls have been built in between them (parang kanta ito ah!). i felt GY's heart when she left the palace. sana nga lang naging masaya sya.

Geum-young leaves the palace.Min jung-ho tells her the only thing he can say to her is he's sorry.Geum-young replies if they meet again in the next life to please say to her anything but not sorry. The king summons jang-geum to tell her he wishes to reward her.Jang-geum tells the king and the lady queen she has 3 wishes.First is to find han-sang goon's innocent.The king states he will and assigns the job to the lady queen.Next jang-geum tells the king her mother was a kitchen maid who was a scapegoat because she saw what she shouldn't have.The then jae-jo-sang goon is choi-sang goon's aunt.The lady queen is astonished and asks jang-geum if that's why choi sang goon hated her so much.The king says he will clear jang-geum's mother name as well and asks jang-geum what her 3rd wish is.

At soo-rak-gan the maids wonder who the next kitchen head will be. just then jang-geum arrives at soo-rak-gan dressed in sang-goong attire. A servant tells the maids to pay respect to jang-geum who is their new boss.Jang-geum tells the staff it's time to prepare the king's meal and smilingly asks chan-ee to help her. The medicine staff find out about jang-geum and is surprised.Min jung-ho tells them it's just temporary per jang-geum's request to the king. The king tastes jang-geum's food and praises her skills despite not being in the kitchen for such long time.The king continues to praise jang-geum.

Back at soo-rak-gan the nurses come to visit jang-geum and comment on her beautiful new attire.Min sang goon and chan-ee try to talk up to jang-geum and asks jang-geum what's going on.A nurse says jang-geum wants to be the kitchen head until an official head is selected. Min sang goon asks jang-geum why and jang-geum states it's because there is something she must do. Alone, jang-geum reads her mother's letter.In the letter her mother tells jang-geum to be the kitchen head and find her justice back. Jang-geum goes around the houses of soo-rak-gan and watches as the child maids learn the ropes to kitchen life.Jang-geum stops a running child and tells her not to run in the kitchen or else dust will be spread onto food.

Jang-geum hallucinates han sang goon coming back to talk to her.Jang-geum reaches out her hands to touch han sang goon but realizes she's dreaming.She runs toward the place han sang goon burried her vinegar and weeps. Min jung-ho watches jang-geum.Later jang-geum and min jung-ho walk in the kitchen field. Jang-geum tells min jung-ho when her father was being captured she started to feel guilty. when her mother passed away she began to miss her and feel guilty as well. Jang-geum begins to cry as she recounts the happiness she felt as a child among her parents even though they were on the run.Min jung-ho draws her to comfort her and jang-geum cries leaning into his shoulder.

The king calls jang-geum.The king tells jang-geum when he was still a prince a little child delivered wine to him and begged him to take her into the palace to become a maid.The king asks jang-geum if she is that child and jang-geum replies yes.The king is elated jang-geum is that child whom he met as a prince.

Kagabi ang ganda ng pagkaka-dub kang Lady Choi. Iyung sinisigawan niya si Jang Geum. Ang lakas halos mahulog ang baso ko. Well, congratulation na lang sa kanya dahil sa kanyang good performance. At sana marinig naman natin ang tinig niya sa ibang dub shows. Kung maari GMA bigyan/ mag-show kayo ng iba pang series ni Kyu Mi Ri. Siguro kaya hindi nagpatalo si Jang Geum sa depression niya ay dahil kailangan niyang ituloy ang habilin ng nanay niya sa kanya. Yun ang kanyang driving force. Tapos nung namatay si Lady Han, lalong umigting ang kanyang pagnanais na itayo at linisin ang pangalan, hindi lang ni myung-ee, kungdi pati na din si Lady Han.

FACT FILES ABOUT DAE JANG-GEUM



There was a person named Min Jung-Ho, but he had no romantic relationship with Jang-Geum at all.


Geum Young(Jing Ying) and Court Lady Choi existed in actual history. However,the historical Court Lady Choi was 10 times worse than the one portrayed in the show.Apart from making Jang-geum's life miserable,she allegedly even forced Geum Young into being one of the King's concubines.


There was supposed to be a kissing scene of Lee Young Ae and Ji Jin Hee,but Lee Young Ae thought it was not appropriate, hence they did not.


Court Lady Han's character(played by Yang Mi-Gyeong) was supposed to die earlier.However, due to the fans' protest, the director 'delayed' her death scene.


Park Eun-Hye was originally cast to take the role of 'Seo Jang-Geum', but later on when it was confirmed that Lee Young Ae acting in the show as well, Park Eun-Hye was re-cast again to take over the role of 'Yeon-Sheng'.


Kyun Mi-Ri was supposed to play the role of Court Lady Han(Han sang-goon), but later on Yang Mi-Gyeong took over the role.


On sunday, (May 1st 2005) TVB (Hong Kong television network) has finally finished airing this series in Hong Kong, and the last episode broke the golden record by achieving 44 average rating as well as 49 at the highest point. This series just beaten 'Nan Chan Lui Aui'/War of Genders acted by Dodo Cheng and Davo Wong in year 2000 by only one point.

hi fire! yes, the king will die not because she wasn't healed by JG. that time kasi ang sakit nung king eh may na-block na something sa intestines nya kaya kailangang i-cut yung portion na yun sa intestines nya. lahat nagulat sa sinabi ni JG about the surgery, even the quenn herself. but then the ministers opposed because surgery is a crime during those times. the ministers told the king to give an order to kill JG. he did but he also gave a secret order to the head eunuch to get JG and bring her to where kapitan Min is. the king also gave a letter/order to kapitan Min telling him to bring JG to Ming Dynasty, a big city wherein nobody knows them and there she can practice medicine. remember that kapitan was also exciled when JG accepted her duty as the king's personal doctor. parang kapalit ng pagtanggap ni JG sa position nya ang pagka-exile ni kapitan - parusa sa pagtataksil nilang dalawa sa hari! so yun, dun sila nag-start na mabuhay as fugitives, like JG's parents before. okay ba ang wento ko???

b4 i really hate lady choi but as the time passes by, im learning to understand her character. i find her ending scene as one of the best in this series.. grabe very touching tlaga for me! she truly loved geum-young like her own daughter and she was ready to surrender herself after apologizing to myeong-hee at her grave. but she qualified her apologies by saying she did so to save geum-young.

on the way back, she saw a red ribbon on a branch and it brought back some old buried memories of her childhood. when they were young.. she, lady han and myeong-hee were very good friends and she was like this, hanging onto the branch. but the other two told her to let go and don't worry coz they’ll catch her. she was crying then and doubted not to let go of the branch. but lady han and myeong-hee told her "come on! we’re here, we will catch you!" then she remembered how she let go and they caught her and laughing happily together. the scene is still fresh to me., in that moment she stopped struggling and she let go of the branch. and this is it! I even love her more when she finally thought that this is the only thing to be at peace after doing such villain things to her dear friends.

hay! her final ending was poingnant and very sad. i believe she’s not really a scoundrel, she’s just forced to do all those bad deeds to safeguard their family interest and I feel pity for her. what lady choi did, she had to do for reasons, she justified at the end but really of not much justification.

for me, mi-ri gyeon performance is excellent... full of anger, dissatisfaction, those self assured smile, those arrogant stares, the panic that brought her more prettier than ever and her cold stares at jang geum. she is determined to hate jang geum and you could feel it in her every pore. actually, we all noticed one character of lady Choi that really gave us an impression of true repentance. she said sorry for having been born in a family who's greedy for power. but then, just like Geum-Young, she chose to belong in her family but never followed their teachings. remember when she brought back the letter of JG's mom to her? she said, her aunt told her to burn it but she didn't. for GY, realizing that the letter is not hers so she didn't burn it. when lady Choi said that if lady park and lady han were born in that kind of family, would things be the same? but then, it is lady Choi's call if she wants to gain power by harming people! remember that they came from a high class family, so it's easy for them to gain wealth and power without harming people.

the flash back that was shown really touched me because perhaps, for lady choi, there will no longer be myeong-yi and baek-young to support her anymore. so she just decided to let go of the branch.

i agree with you, Gyeon Mi-ri's performance in this series is one of the bests! her versatility as an actress caught the attention of many viewers...we have a lot of those viewers here in the thread. Gyeon Mi-ri's versatility has shown us the real emotions of her character. i hope that there'll be more of her series like this.

yep..trully one of the most touching scene in Jewel in the Place..In the end the writer gained the viewers sympathy for the Choi's..grabe tlga ung scene na un.,.nasabi ko na lang "haayy..loko tlga toh si lady choi mamatay na lang inantig pa puso ko"..ngayon mas lalo ko naintindihan ung character niya..ang lungkot nga ng buhay niya kasi hawak siya sa leeg ng buong angkan nila.,.wala siyang magawa..siguro kung di na impluwensyahan ng tiya niya nung bata pa sila si madam choi kakayanin niya siguro ung laban sa kusina using her talents and skills..kaya lang tinuruan siya ng tiya ng madaling paraan.."iligpit lahat ng sagabal sa daan".. haayy...:(

The king remembers when he was still a prince a little girl delivered wine to him and bow to beg him fulfil her wish of becoming a royal kitchen maid inside the palace. The king asks Jang-Geum if she is that little girl back then. Jang-Geum returns his smile and replies yes. Jang-Geum thanks the king for fulfilling her childhood wish.
The king states he often wondered about what happened to that little fearless girl and is amazed that the girl ended up saving his life as a medicine maid. The king is extremely happy and tells Jang-Geum to ask for anything and he’ll grant her wish. Jang-Geum asks for permission to visit outside the palace to practice medicine.

During the nae-ee-ohn meeting, Jang-Geum tells her colleagues and supervisors she asked the king for permission to go outside the palace to learn more about medicine treatment. Jang-Geum tells the doctors that Lady Han left her medicinal recipes and she wants to study them. Yun-Saeng is upset that Jang-Geum might not be around to deliver her baby. Jang-Geum assures her that Shin-Bi will do a great job and there is nothing to worry about.

Kangs scold Jang-Geum for her constant curiosity and tells her she should just tell the king she has no wishes next time the king asks her or else she will end up getting herself into more trouble each time. But Jang-Duk compliments Jang-Geum for her desire to improve herself.

Jang-Geum arrives at the town and finds Min Jung-Ho there already, making kites and teaching calligraphy to the local kids. Jang-Geum asks Min Jung Ho what brings him to this remote town, but Min replies in a professional tone of voice he had business to take care of. When Jang-Geum teasingly asks if he’s there for any other reason, Min doesn’t smile back and states, “what other reason?” Then Min leaves after saving goodbye. Jang-Geum is disappointed at his response but goes back to tending the ill.

At night, Jang-Geum goes to see Min Jung-Ho and when he arrives she puts on a big smile, but Min Jung Ho coldly asks why she’s doing there and sends her away. After Min leaves, Jang-Geum mumbles, “actually i missed you… so…”, then leaves.

Jang-Geum goes back to the treatment house. Next day, Jang-Geum watches Min Jung Ho teach poetry to the children. Afterwards, Jang-Geum speaks with Min Jung Ho.

Jang Geum: I wish to see you everyday.
Min Jung Ho: Because of the kids?
Jang Geum: No…
Min Jung Ho: (raises voice) Then you should’ve said so from the beginning. You should know the pain i suffered through too.
Jang Geum: (surprised) Then were you just teasing me?
Min Jung Ho: No, why would i? (acts angry and turns to leave)
Jang Geum: … (speechless)
Min Jung Ho: (turns back and laughs) Hahaha.

Back at the palace the kitchen staff are wondering who the king will name as the next kitchen head. Lady Min jokes to Chan-Ee that she should go for that title. Lady Min prepares food for the king during the palace festival and the king enjoys her food. Lady Min is declared the next kitchen head. Lady Min is shocked and feels stressed about the title. Lady Min goes to see Jang-Geum. When she sees her, Lady Min calls out Jang-Geum’s name and embraces her. Jang-Geum gives Lady Min a recipe book Lady Han and Jung left to encourage Lady Min. Lady Min thanks Jang-Geum but tells Jang-Geum she’s scared. Jang-Geum gives Lady Min encouraging words of advice and assures Lady Min she will do well in the new job. Lady Min goes back and prepares her first meal as kitchen head. She serves the food to the king and before he can say anything, she begins to ramble on about how bad her skills are, but the king replies saying the food is great.

Jang-Geum is called to a secret meeting with the lady queen. Lady queen confides in Jang-Geum that her position in the palace is not secure due to a prince who is older than her son. The older prince is in line to be the king’s heir, but the prince has a perpectual illness that he will eventually die from but no one knows when for sure. The lady queen’s assitant tells Jang-Geum to return the lady queen’s favor, by helping the lady queen. The assistant tells the lady queen will arrange for Jang-Geum to treat the sick prince, and Jang-Geum is to secretly kill the prince, since he’s already living a life of hell on earth. Jang-Geum is shocked and distraught. Then she agrees to visit the ill prince. After examing him, Jang-Geum goes home and worries about what she should do.

Jang-Geum visits Min Jung-Ho and the two go around town shopping. Min Jung-Ho tells Jang-Geum he wants to buy her a gift so she can’t look. Later, Min Jung Ho puts an accessory on Jang-Geum and Jang-Geum smiles saying she loves it. Then Jang-Geum gives him the pen brush set her father gave her. Jang-Geum tells Min Jung Ho it’s the most valuable item she owns and she wants to give it to him. Min Jung-Ho tells Jang-Geum he likes the life outside palace and asks her to live with him outside the palace, with him mending a book shop, and her mending a small pharmacy. Jang-Geum gets upset, since she thinks she won’t have a life with Min after what the lady queen asked her to do, and Jang-Geum says she doesn’t want a small pharamacy. Min Jung-Ho is taken back but replies then she won’t have a small one. She’ll have a pharamacy that’s bigger than his shop. Jang-Geum looks at him with tears in her eyes.

Jang-Geum worries about what the lady queen said to her all night. The next day she tells the lady queen she can’t do what she asked, because her mother and Lady Han always said to her a cook’s hands cannot harm a person, and she is a nurse, her job is to heal people not to harm them. The lady queen replies this is the only way to secure her position and her son’s future and asks Jang-Geum to do it for her since she saved her life. Jang-Geum states she wants to return her life back to the lady queen instead. The king overhears the conversation outside but goes inside to pretend he didn’t hear anything. The lady queen reports to the king she wants to keep Jang-Geum near her as a sang-goong. The king replies it’s a good idea.

The king asks Jang-Geum what the lady queen asked her to do. Jang-Geum refuses to say anything. The king says it’s the king’s order but Jang-Geum replies she can’t say a word. The king tells his head guard to investigate the matter.

Jang-Geum is going crazy with the secret buried inside her and she runs to look for Min Jung-Ho but she has a difficult time finding him. Everywhere she looks for him, he’s not there. Meanwhile, Min Jun Ho hears Jang-Geum is looking for her but everywhere he goes Jang-Geum had already left. Finally at night they run into each other.

Jang-Geum, with tears, complains to him:

Jang Geum: (crying) You said you’d be there for me wherever i need you but how can u be there if i can’t find you?
Min Jung Ho: (surprised) ….
Jang Geum: You said to runaway with you before. So please take me away from here. Take me to runaway from here.

Min Jung-Ho makes plans to leave the palace with Jang-Geum. Jang-Geum writes her resignation letter and packs her belongings.

Hello!!! I am always watching jewel in the palace even though napanuod ko na yun sa cd... Medyo bago lang ako dito. While watching the cd, narealize ko na hindi pa tapos ang mga paghihirap ni jang geum kahit na patay na si lady choi, grabe din ung ending... pero cute!!! But i really like the role, beauty and kung paano dalhin ni lady choi ung pagkakontrabida nya...sayang patay na sya!!! Pero mas gusto ko ung scenes kung buhay pa si lady choi...hehehe...:)
