The new Tagalog background music last night really ***** but its a little better pa din compared sa Tagalog music ng AAE na the worse to date for me :p Since new year nmn sana they hire someone new na may konting creativity at marunong mamili ng appropriate songs that would give justice to the beautiful scenes :rolleyes:

i agree sa sinabi mo, hindi naman sa hindi ko rin gusto yung mga OPM, kaya lang hindi talaga bagay yung background music na ginamit... and one more thing nakaka dissapoint yang scene na yan kasi hindi ko man lang naramdaman sa boses ni lady han yung hirap nya, nung mamamatay na sya tsaka lang naghingalo yung voice nya..

actually, inggit na inggit ako sa eb nyo. sana makapanood naman ako ng bloopers esp that of lady han. grabee!!! napaka-overwhelming ng fascination nyo/natin kay lady han. alam nya kaya na marami syang fans dito? i hope she does. napaka-elegante naman kasi ng actuations nya ... even the way she moves her hands and eyes ... gigil at inggit ako sa tuwa. mwehehe!!!

hello mga jewels...pasensiya na pero gusto ko lang i-share yung naging experience ko nung Thursday habang hinahabol ko yung epi na mamamatay si mamanim. dapat nung friday pa to kaya lang alam naman nating lahat na medyo down ang server ng tsinoy.


Galing akong Franklin Graham Festival. Natapos siya ng 9:00 so pwede pa kong makapanood sa bus ng Jewel.



Pagsakay ko, nasa ibang channel. Hindi pa naman ako nagpapanic kasi 9:20 pa lang naman so hinihintay ko yung conductor para mapalipat ko. Buti na lang, may isang respectable lady na kinausap yung nagtitinda ng chicharon para ilipat sa 7, so there, masaya na ko.



Nang umandar na yung bus, biglang pinatay yung tv nung conductor. Hindi ko alam kung bakit pero inisip ko, kakausapin ko na lang siya para buksan na lang niya ulit. Kakapalan ko na lang mukha ko. Nung naniningil na siya ng bayad, narinig ko yung isang babae na pinapabukas yung tv. Aba, ayaw niya. E di try naman akong kausapin siya nung inaabot ko yung bayad para marealize niya na madaming gustong manood ng tv. Sabi ko, "kuya pabukas ng tv. May inaabangan lang po ako." Sabi niya, malabo daw kaya masakit sa mata, Sabi ko naman ok lang. So yun, binuksan na niya yung tv. Akala ko ok na.



Eh nasa may banding Southwoods na yung bus pero wala pang JITP. Nung nagsimula na yung Jewel, medyo malapit na sa exit namin. Kinakabahan ako kasi baka di ko abutan yung pagkamatay ni lady han. Nung papasok na kami sa exit, nakita ko pa yung binuhat ni Jang Geum si Lady Han tapos yung naglalakad sila na long shot na silhouette lang nila yung nakikita. Nung pababa na ko, pinagdarasal ko na sana magcommercial na para umabot ako. Kahit mag-special na ako na tricycle basta makauwi lang ako agad. Buti naman at pagsakay ko eh lima kami agad sa tricycle. Eh di umandar na. Iniisip ko, kung may commercial gap aabutan ko pa. Ang problema, naka turtle power yung tricyle, hindi humaharurot so mga 5 minutes din ako sa tricycle. Hinanda ko na yung pamasahe ko para abot ng bayad tapos baba. Balak kong tumakbo papasok ng village para abutan ko yung jewel.



So yun na, pagbaba ko ng tricycle, tumakbo na ko. As in naka high heels pa ko tapos tumakbo ako ng 500 meters.



Pagdating ko sa bahay, nailibing na si Lady Han. Waah!!! Umiyak talaga ako. Ang dami kong pinagdaanan para abutan lang yung death niya tapos hindi pa din umabot. Naawa nga sa kin mommy ko kasi humihingal pa ko. Para akong bata na nakasalampak sa sahig dahil sobrang sad ko.



Nirecord nung kapatid ko sa cell niya yung scene ng death ni lady han kaya lang di rin maganda yung quality. Nang dahil sa Jewel, kung ano-ano nang ginagawa ko.

I too think that attributing its success to the Confucian values underlying the series (as per some Chinese article) fails to explain its great performance in non-Confucian Asian countries like Philippines, Thailand or Malaysia (in fact, most non-Sinophone Asian countries besides Korea I think).

BTW, a couple corrections:
- "an average rating of 54 percent for its parent network MBC, the highest ever in Korean TV history": It's not the highest ever in Korean TV history. There were several other shows that marked 60-odd percents.
- "the show's extolling of Confucian values, which Koreans share in common with Chinese and Japanese": As far as I know, Japan has never been, and is still not, a Confucian society.

INTRIGUE AND CORRUPTION IN THE PALACE. A family whose members conspire to destroy anyone who threatens their hold on power or who puts their business interests at risk. A leader who is torn between two conflicting sets of advisers. A social elite concerned only with maintaining their wealth and status even as the poor go hungry and fall sick.

The Philippines in the new millennium? Guess again. This describes Korea in the 16th century, during the Chosun Dynasty when the country was ruled by a king and the country was a vassal state of the Chinese emperor.

This is also the setting for "Jewel in the Palace," a 54-episode TV series which, when it aired in Korea in 2003, garnered an average rating of 54 percent for its parent network MBC, the highest ever in Korean TV history. The show would go on to set new records when it aired in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam and Mainland China. Currently airing on GMA-Channel 7, "Jewel in the Palace" is bringing in, on average, ratings of 36-38 percent. This is, says Joey Abacan of GMA's programming department, "very good for a canned material."

What's the secret of "Jewel's" success? It tells the story of Jang Geum, an orphan who grows up as a kitchen maid in the Palace, with ambitions of being named the "chief madam" of the Royal Kitchen. But through a twist of fate, Jang Geum ends up as a woman doctor, eventually being named King Jung Jong's personal physician, defying the conventions of patriarchal Korean society. So treasured is she that the King names her "Dae Jang Geum" or "the great Jang Geum," which is the show's original title. Jang Geum also happens to be a real personage in Korean history, as is King Jung Jong, though much of the series' material is fictional.

JANG Geum-plucky, intelligent, courageous, principled and often too curious for her own good-certainly makes for a fascinating lead character. There's also a love story thrown in for good measure, between Jang Geum and the devoted soldier/scholar Min Jung Ho.

But beyond the characters and the absorbing story, which centers on the convoluted relationship between Jang Geum's family and her guardian Madam Han on one hand, and the powerful and devious Choi clan on the other, there are also all the details and minutiae of life in ancient Korea.

There's plenty of material here for any student of Korean history and tradition, from the cuisine to the costumes, the old ways of diagnosing illnesses and treating the symptoms, courtly society and etiquette, even the relationships between the Korean kingdom and its neighbors China and Japan. The show is also pleasing to the eye, what with the women clad in jewel-toned hanbok, the billowing traditional dress; and the men in their silken robes and headwear. Even the dishes look so scrumptious that Korean restaurants serving royal cuisine are said to be enjoying a boom in business.

Media critics, analyzing the strong performance of "Jewel in the Palace" even in foreign markets, attribute the high ratings to the show's extolling of Confucian values, which Koreans share in common with Chinese and Japanese. But why is it doing so well in the Philippines?

"OF course, we were frightened," says Abacan when I asked if they did not have initial apprehensions about airing such "foreign" material. "We had our misgivings, but this series has really been an eye-opener for us. I guess the viewers are really going for the novelty and the dramatic build-up of the story."

Abacan recalls encountering two women at the grocery and overhearing one of them urging the other to hurry up so they could go home and "catch Jang Geum." He also shares that they receive phone calls and e-mail inquiries on everything, from the dishes prepared in the show to the herbal remedies mentioned.

Indeed, one could feel the pride the show's creators feel in their history, culture and traditions-a pride its local audience apparently shared, and which comes through in the detailed depictions of ancient court life, the care lavished on the costumes and settings, even the loving way the camera lingers on the beautiful scenery, be it a dramatic seascape or a field of wild grass silhouetted against the setting sun.

Watching "Jewel in the Palace," I couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy for the Koreans, who can get a history lesson each night by way of a show that is both educational and entertaining, but which also manages to comment on the lingering vestiges of the past on the present.

Korean TV serials, we are told, are divided into "historical" dramas and so-called "trendy dramas," which tackle more contemporary themes, often centered on complicated love stories. But in "Jewel in the Palace," the past is used not just as a setting but also as a context for Jang Geum's personal circumstances and the measure of her triumph.

HOW often have we heard scholars and historians bemoan the Filipinos' lack of appreciation for our history and heritage, which makes it difficult for us to care deeply not just for our heirloom buildings and artifacts, but even for our environment and surroundings?

Would a show similar to "Jewel" do the trick? We do not lack for historical productions-the series on epochal events of Philippine history produced by the ABS-CBN Foundation comes to mind, as does "Jose Rizal" by GMA Films-but they have yet to equal the success and international appeal of "Jewel."

But for such a show to emerge from the morass of commercial material on local TV, we must first find a measure of pride in our past, respect for our traditions, and certainty about who and what we are as a people. There are many "Jang Geums" in our stories of long ago. All we need to do is to find them and tell them well.

YAP, THATS 1 of the many things i've been moaning about! Why we so embrace the history of others when none of us is so willing to embrace ours?!:( Well, maybe kac wala nga namang nagpapalabas ng historical shows sa ating bansa excpt sa films, but even then, i think na mag go-gross pa ng higher yung mga teenage related movies kesa sa mga historical. Sa Jewel in the palace, talaga napaganda nila ang estorya ng isang babae na na mention lang naman sa diary ng isang hari... diba sa journal ng hari eh isa lang manggagamot itong si JG? Pero when they produce a show using her character, they made such increadible manueverings dat would leave u breathless each time an episode ends!! Na pati ikaw na oblivious sa history ng ibang bansa like korea, ay macucurious naring mag research sa internet!
I think networks should minimize producing in fantanserye and start heading our history's... baka may madiscover pa silang unknown sa mga ordinary citizens like us..

Ji Jin Hee: The cancellation kiss scene is the most unforgettable
When Ji Jin Hee went to Shanghai during first half of the year to promote “Perhaps Love”, not many people paid attention to him, but along with Jewel in the Palace broadcasted in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, this Jewel in the Palace’s perfect actor became popular. Day fore, when Ji Jin Hee appeared in front of reporters from 11 countries, there was excitement and scream.
Wore white shirt and the suit, Ji Jin Hee looks thinner than the on television. Regarding can acted in Jewel in the Palace, his elegantly expressed he was extremely honored. He also said, there was no special incidents in the filming process. 2 scenes left him deeper impression: One, when filming rescue Jang Geum, he was carelessly burnt down the eyebrow; Two, after rescue Jang Geum, they supposed to have kiss scene, but Lee Young Ae felt that it’s not good, so it was cancelled.
Some reporters asked: What’s the main Korean man’s charm? He immediately modestly replied: I personally do not have this kind of special characteristic, but Korea’s male all has the charm, besides handsome, they also has the individuality. After praised Korea’s man, he also praises Korean’s scenic spot: “There are extremely many beautiful places; I like most temple Lai Su during the autumn, there has 600 meters of trees covered roads, after you watch you will exclaim in surprise, how come in the world could have the such a beautiful place.” After that reporters visited the place, that trees road has been named as “Ji Jin Hee Road”, at here, they filmed the scene of Min Jung Hi affectionly gazed at melancholy gravel throwing Jang Geum.

ok...here's my conviction about that. actually, this has been our topic here in the office. almost all of my officemates here are super KAPUSO followers. ako kasi, i'm not bias to a tv station as long as the station could produce a good show, series, etc., i'm gonna watch.

sabi ng mga officemates ko, marami daw talagang pipila that day sa wowowee because they promoted it na pagpasok mo pa lang ng gate eh you'll get 20T. well of course, dudumugin nga ng mga tao yan! i have friends who work for DOS and as far as wowowee's anniversary is concerned, they planned everything well. we can't say they didn't, we don't have the proof either. but only if people knows how to comply with the rules and regulations of ULTRA and ABS-CBN, sana walang stampede na nangyari. admit it or not, we Filipino's are sometimes hard-headed...matigas ang ulo, walang disiplina. masakit pakinggan yan, but this is one reality that we can't deny.

for me, the thing that happened in wowowee, nobody is to be blamed. it's everybody elses fault! sad to say pero marami tayong mga kababayan na sa sobrang hirap ng buhay and desperate to get an instant 20T, kahit kapuso pa yan, pipila yan sa DOS para makakuha ng 20T. i'm sure next to that, dahil sa sobrang hirap ng buhay, ang bagsak ng sisi nyan kay PGMA. iikot na naman ang sisi sa gobyerno at sa presidente. i'm a government employee and i know how it feels kapag sinisisi ng tao ang gobyerno. no matter how hard to try to excel in working here in the government, sa isang pangyayari na tulad ng nangyari sa wowowee, gobyerno na naman ang masisisi. not all government people are the same!

ako rin, gusto ko lang magkaroon ng say dito. nung una kong marinig ito, hindi ako naniwala pero nangyari nga at ang una kong naisip, siguradong sisisihin nila si GMA dahil nga sobrang hirap ng bansa natin kaya sila "napipilitan" pumila. hindi naman ako pro-government pero I'm just tired of what's happening sa bansa natin, puro agawan ng powers (parang sa JEWEL). Kung may papalit man, wala namang kasiguraduhan na magiging matino ang pamumuno niya. Kawawa man ang mahihirap nating kababayan, medyo kailangan din nilang mag-isip. Panandalian lang ang solusyon na pwedeng ibigay ng wowowee, the rest is up to them. May mga mahirap din naman pero umulad yung buhay nila (like my parents...)Sayang ang pagkamatay nila kasi hindi naman worth ng 1M o bahay at lupa ang buhay ng isang tao.

oo naman. sad pa din talaga kasi parang wala nang mentor si Jang Geum although andiyan na nga yung nurse na astig din. iba kasi si lady han, mommy figure siya kay Jang Geum. Nakakalungkot kasi nga iniwan na si Jang Geum ng mga taong mahal-mahal niya except si Kapitan of course.

Nakakakilig yung scene na akala mo paparusahan si Kapitan tapos siya pala yung bagong leader ng mga gwardiya. hehehe...may kakampi na si Jang Geum.

Isa pa, gusto kong batukan yung gwardiya na nagsabi kay Jang Geum na i-bow yung ulo niya pag nakikipag-usap kay Kapita. If they knew, siya yung girlfriend ni Kapitan, hehehe (although hindi pa alam ni Jang Geum na siya girlfriend ni Kapitan.) Yihee!!! Kakilig naman kahit hindi focused sa love yung story nila.

i think you've misunderstood what i've said about pinoy historical dramas..ang sa akin lng, nde me nw2lan ng pag - asa na balang araw, mgk2interes din ang mga local producers & directors n mg produce ng pinoy historical dramas, as what korea has done (JITP)..nde ko cnbng may mga nka - line up n ang ABS & GMA..there's always a time for everything, weather2 lng yan..mlay mo, mgsilbing inspiration ang JITP..
