Quarantine office breaks its rules; f4 to welcome a japanese hearing dog
and let it guide the deaf japanese fan


Because of F4, the Department of Health's Quarantine Office made an exemption to allow a Japanese fan to bring her hearing dog with her, as she joins F4 "WISH TO SEE YOU IN TAIWAN" International Fans Meeting on October 28. As the master benefits on the dog, most likely the dog might also appear with F4 at the stage.

According to the Immigration provisions, foreign plants and animals which did not undergo quarantine inspection will not be allowed to enter the country. F4 International Fans Gathering Engineering Unit Super Dome Company expressed that this time a Japanese fan named Ms. Kouyu is deaf, so she must have her hearing dog with her and applied for a travel permit through her travel agency. She was then allowed to bring her Belgium shepherd dog to come to Taiwan and join the activities, and watch with the other fans.

The sponsors will then ask her to lead her hearing dog at the stage. Although this deaf fan would not be able to speak with F4 at the stage, her dear hearing dog will be her medium of communication to F4, allowing some lovable hugs and curiosity with her and her dog.

As there had been a stationary performances during their April 22 Fans Gathering, F4 will now offer their Japanese and Korean fans with Taiwan's delicacy fruits. In their 3 days-2 nights booked tour package, they will be introduced at Taiwan's Night Market such as Taipei's Shi Lin Night Market selling game. similar to covering circles, shooting gas balls, fishing up goldfishes, and many more. When they made tea during their first Fan Gathering, this time, there will more interactions with the Japanese and Korean career ladies.

BASCO, Batanes, Philippines -“He’s very Filipino,” Iza Calzado describes co-star Ken Zhu of F4 fame. “He’s having so much fun here.”

The Taiwanese singer-actor was in the northernmost Philippine island-province for 10 days for the shoot of the romance drama “Batanes,” directed by Adolf Alix Jr. and Dave Hukom for Ignite Media. Ken is set to come back on the third week of November for the movie’s opening.

“He loves joking around and singing standards by Frank Sinatra. Pinoy na Pinoy,” Iza tells Inquirer Entertainment on the movie’s set on White Beach, Batanes, on Tuesday.

Co-star Glaiza de Castro agrees: “He’s cool. I only used to watch him on ‘Meteor Garden,’ but now I got to act with him. I never imagined he’s that approachable.”

Another co-actor, Coco Martin, relates that Ken “bonded” with the Filipino cast and crew. “At first he was shy. But soon enough, he started jamming, eating and chatting with us.”

Ken is no stranger to the country. It’s his fourth trip to the Philippines, but his first to Batanes—which is nearer to Taiwan than to Manila, he points out.

“My first trip abroad was to Manila. I was only 7 then,” Ken looks back. “I loved this dessert called halo-halo. Everywhere I looked there were guitars.”

The Filipinos’ innate warmth and musicality impressed him.

Associate director Armando A. Reyes recalls that Ken, Iza, Glaiza and Bembol Roco sang “Do Re Mi” from “The Sound of Music” on the set one slow day.

There was a light and jovial mood on this set.

Direk Arman and co-star Sid Lucero’s jokes broke the ice with Ken, Iza reminisces.

“Like me, Ken was also feeling his way through at first. He was tired when he got here because he came from Spain where he had topped a tai chi competition.”

Ken taught Iza a few tai chi moves because, Ken explains, the skill helps him in “communicating” with his fellow actors. “It also keeps me healthy and gets rid of stress. It calms me down after a highly emotional scene.”

Apart from singing and tai chi, the talented Ken is also a whiz in the kitchen. He wrote a cookbook entitled “Delicious Relationships” and conducts culinary workshops for his fans.

He tells Inquirer Entertainment that he intends to cook for the crew. “It’s a simple family recipe made of eggs and tomatoes.”

The actor/singer/tai chi champ/ cook is also a reflexologist.

“On the first day, after noticing that I sprained my left foot, he massaged it,” Adolf notes.

“Although he’s an Asian superstar, he’s down-to-earth,” Iza says.

“He went motorbiking on his own on his first day,” Adolf recounts.

“When I got here, I was pale. I wanted to get a tan,” Ken says.

Adolf relates: “The locals know him, but they didn’t mob or bother him. He experienced freedom here.”

Ken has fallen in love with Batanes and its people so much that he is planning to buy a piece of property here. “I love this place. It’s paradise. I’ve never seen an island as beautiful as this. Very promising.”

He is raring to come back and work in the Philippines again.

He says that, in spite of the hectic working schedule, the Filipinos “are the most heartwarming crew I’ve met. They’re like family to me now.”

Once again, F4 re-allied for Tourism at 3pm. this afternoon. Nonetheless, Chu Xiao Tian has already carried out his private banquet gathering to show his appreciation for the fans in the morning. In order to have a closer reaction with the fans, Chu Xiao Tian's official fan club specially reserved a private banquet hall for the whole day. Moreover, Chu Xiao Tian, who is talented for cookery, will cook and serve in person. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, are all in a roll. A total of 108 overseas fans are benefit with such an honour. The cost spent on venue and food alone, amount to almost $200,000.8

Early around 8am. Japanese fans started gathering at the balcony of the banquet hall. They gave up nice sleeps so as to arrive early. All these are for Ken, Chu Xiao Tian. Japanese fan, "Chu Xiao Tian", Reporter, "Why do you want to see him?" Japanese fan, "Because he is so handsome." Reporter, "And you?" Japanese fan, "Chu Xiao Tian". Reporter, "How is Chu Xiao Tian?" Japanese fan, "I like him so much. He is brilliant." Staff, "Thank you!"

In order to join this special occasion, "shi-nai (housewife)" fans are all willing to spend a fortune. One even came a long way from Canada to Taiwan. Canadian fan Ms. Ji, "Really longing for this. I found he is so elegant and wise."

Fans expressed that it is worthwhile to take this journey. Fans not only be able to enjoy a close interaction with him, but also taste his good cooking.

Menus are printed on the invitation card beginning with a great breakfast. In addition, traditional Taiwanese dishes, like red roast pork, sweet yam leaves are part of the feast. When it comes to dinner, he prepared a special soy sauced dish. A performance by local pop group F4 for nearly 5,000 fans from Japan and South Korea will take place at the main stadium of National Taiwan University today, the Tourism Bureau said yesterday. Tourism officials estimated that the fans will bring in at least NT$100 million (US$3.03 million) in tourism revenue.

The officials said the fans have come mostly on package tours, paying an average of NT$20,000 apiece. In addition to watching the performance, they will also be taken to various scenic spots around the country.

The bureau has also prepared limited edition notebooks and passport holders featuring the F4 members, as well as manuals on backpacking in Taiwan.

Today's F4 performance will be the second sponsored by the Tourism Bureau, following on the success of the first one in April, which brought 4,000 Japanese and 1,000 South Korean fans to see their idols. Today's performance will be by attended 4,100 Japanese fans and around 500 South Korean fans, they said.

F4, originally four little-known actors, shot to fame after their appearance in a TV drama titled The Meteor Garden that began broadcasting in April 2001. The four members were cast in the drama as handsome and arrogant students from one of the richest and most influential families in Taiwan.

The band members have been invited by the Tourism Bureau to serve as Taiwan's tourism ambassadors in Japan and South Korea.

a post that i read from Global Icon Forum of Ken-Rainie thread,
according to krazytopak (whom i give my credits on this) she happens
to be IZA's friend and was able to have a conversation with Iza and
Ken-himself! Iza told her that ken and Iza are already friends and
ken is really friendly and they got along well and one time they
were talking and ken told that Batanes is great and he likes it
there coz it's so peaceful and its away from the press people. He
said he wants to bring his loved one there then he laughed at the
thought. But at one point in their conversation Iza talked about his
boyfriend. Then ken asked her the name of her boyfriend, she said
the name is Jerry. Then all of a sudden Ken laughed again. Iza asked
him why then he just shrugged and said "I think it's going to RAIN".
But the problem is the sun is shining brightly as in no hint of
raining that time.Then Iza suddenly told Ken that she knew someone
who is a fan of him and Rainie.Ken smiled and said..."ahh cheng
lin?" then excused himself and called someone on the phone.

Really glad that Iza have a boyfriend that she loves much so for
sure Ken will leave the country with out any "intrigues or scandal"
after him.

hope you'll not ban me here for this post, guys.I just want sharing
this with you.

Bumalik na sa Taiwan si Ken Zhu last Saturday na happy sa working experience niya with Filipino actors and filmmakers na nakasama sa Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.

“Paradise” ang tingin nito sa Batanes at na-in-love sa lugar. Balak daw nitong bumili ng property doon. Libre siyang nakagagala at nagmumotorsiklo na walang paparazzi na humahabol.

Nakipag-bonding ito sa cast ng movie, “Uncle Bembol” ang tawag kay Bembol Roco at love ang mga bading staff. Love pala ni Ken ang standard songs at alam lahat ang kanta ng Carpenters. Wala rin itong arte sa pagkain at lahat ng ihain ay kinakain.

Ikinuwento nito kay Lhar Santiago na tinuruan siyang umarte ni Iza Calzado at sinuportahan siya. In return, tinuruan niyang mag-tai chi ang kapareha and in fact, kagagaling niya ng Basque, Spain, kung saan he won in a tai-chi competition.

Ibinuking nitong ayaw noong una ng management niya na tanggapin ang offer, pero nagustuhan niya ang project nang mabasa ang script.

Babalik daw sa November 6 si Ken dahil may eksena pang naiwan at muling babalik to promote the movie, na showing sa Nov. 28.

while im watching their f4 fan meet clip....i cnt help but observe how THESE FOUR GUYS cud remain sooo grounded and unaffected by fame....kht nag-mature na cla ....ganun pa din cla 4....sooo natural....sooo humble....sooo simple....at mga fans na pumunta....parang mga matured at talaga professionals...di lang giggly teenagers...tho as giggly....cguro naman noh....sa mahal ng gagastusin bago ka makasali sa event..... :p

"Paradise" kung tawagin ni Ken ang nasabing probinsya.

Ayon kay Ken Zhu, gustong-gusto niya ang nasabing probinsya dahil nakakapaglakad at nakakapag-motor umano siya nang walang istorbong mga paparazzi.

Dahil dito ay nagbabalak na bumili ng property sa nasabing probinsya ang nasabing Taiwanese actor.

Taipei - Taiwan on Sunday held the second fans meeting for its F4 boy band, hoping to attract tourists and boost Taiwan's slow-growing tourism. Some 5,000 Asian fans, mostly young and middle-aged women from Japan and South Korea, flew to Taipei to meet the F4 members, visit the locations of F4's TV drama the Meteor Garden and to buy F4 T-shirts, posters and CDs.
The fans' meeting, the second after one held last April, was staged by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau at the National Taiwan University Gymnasium.

The fans snapped up F4 goods before marching into the gymnasium to meet the F4 stars - Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Wanness Wu, Ken Chu - all handsome boys in their 20s.

The F4 members, Taiwan's tourism ambassadors, introduced Taiwan's scenic spots and food, posed photos and played ganes with selected fans before ending the hour-long meetins by singing together a song and shaking hands with the fans sitting near the stage.
F4's fans arrived in Taiwan early this week and have already attended separate fans meetings with their favorite F4 member.

The F4 became famous thoughout Asia after its TV drama Meteor Garden was shown in Taiwan and Southeast Asia in 2001. Their Asian fans, from teenage girls to grannies, like the four boys mainly because of their good looks.

Motomi Unmeki, 30, an office worker from Osaka, Japan, said she has been a fan a fan of Jerry Yan for five years and has attended Jerry's fans meeting in Hong Kong and South Korea.
When asked why she likes Jerry, she covered her mouth and whispered through giggles: "His face. He is handsome and cool."

An 18-member fans group from the Philippines gave the same answer. The groups members, also fans of Jerry, range in age from 10 to 52, and the youngest is Christian Louis Abrigo, a fourth-grade boy from Manila who came with his mother.
"I like Jerry because he sings well and he is good-looking," he said.

Taiwan, encouraged by Japan and South Korea's success in drawing foreign tourists by promoting local film or television stars, appointed the F4 members as tourism ambassadors, using them to make TV ads, sending them abroad to promote Taiwan's tourism and holding the first overseas fans meeting in Taipei in April.

Taiwan press said the two fans meetings have brought Taiwan millions of US dollars. The week-long F4 package tours have not only brought in foreign currency but also promoted Taiwan's tourist spots.

Despite its rich culture and beautiful scenery, Taiwan has met obstacles in boosting its tourism due to its five-decade ban on air and sea links with China, which is set to become the world's top source of outbound tourists.

As the arrival of Chinese tourists is still out of sight due to continued cross-Strait tension, Taiwan recently revised down its 2008 inbound tourists target from five million to four million.
In 2006 Taiwan received 3.5 million foreign tourists, up 4.2 per cent from 2005 with Japanese and South Koreans comprising the largest share.

BASCO, Batanes, Philippines—Traveling from Toronto to Batanes moved actress Iza Calzado to declare: “I love my job!”

She asserts that she is “thankful” for the experience of working on two “totally different” sets: the Hollywood thriller “The Echo” in Canada, and the local drama “Batanes” in the country’s northernmost island-province.

“In Toronto, we worked in a studio. Here, we’re surrounded by nature,” she tells Inquirer Entertainment on the beachside set of “Batanes.”

She’s “in awe” of the island and its people.

“We shot near a church and, when I looked up, the sky was bright with stars. I haven’t experienced that kind of star-gazing in any of the beaches I’ve visited in the past. It was as if the stars were within reach.”

When they traveled to neighboring Sabtang island, their flimsy boat was met with five-meter ocean waves.

“It makes you realize just how powerful nature is,” she quips.

She’ll make sure to recommend Batanes to her “Echo” co-stars Jesse Bradford, Amelia Warner, Carlos Leon and Kevin Durand.

“I feel honored that I get to share with foreigners how beautiful our country and people are,” she explains. “It’s so safe in Batanes. I jog every day on my own. Once, I even jogged at night.”

She also got to tackle two divergent acting styles in the two movies.

While in “Echo,” she pushed herself to the limit as a battered wife, she got to take it easy as a troubled widow in “Batanes.”

“I like the pacing in this movie,” she says. “It’s very subtle. I’m not so keen on overly dramatic scenes. I prefer a simple, quiet acting style.”

She gives credit to her “Batanes” directors Adolf Alix and Dave Hukom for guiding her every step of the way. “Adolf focuses on me. Dave is also very technical and discriminating.”

She also got to work with world-famous leading men on the two films: Bradford in “Echo” and Taiwanese pop superstar Ken Zhu in “Batanes.”

“My first realization is that in spite of our differences, in terms of race and culture, people are just the same. We are all just actors. It all boils down to how we work and how we treat people.”

She says that Ken is a kidder. “When we arrived from Sabtang, we were greeted by people carrying a cardboard sign: ‘Miss Iza and company, we love you.’”

Iza was embarrassed. “It was as if I was more popular than Ken when, in fact, he is an Asian superstar. He kept teasing me about it.”

“Iza’s cool,” Ken describes his co-star. “It’s a pleasure working with her. We have a lot of fun on the set.”

A tai chi world champion, Ken says that he’s teaching Iza a few moves. “In this movie, I speak Mandarin; while she, in Filipino. So we mostly communicate through body language.”

In that sense, tai chi helped them bridge the language gap.

“Luckily, Iza is a good actress. She’s giving me a lot of support,” Ken tells the Inquirer.

“Tai chi is like a dance,” she notes. “He says it helps him connect with co-stars.”

Once, in the middle of a tai chi session, Ken complimented Iza: “He said that I have the gift. It meant so much to me because I see him not as an F4 guy, the star of ‘Meteor Garden,’ but as a tai chi world champion!” Iza exclaims.

She also got to work with world-famous leading men on the two films: Bradford in “Echo” and Taiwanese pop superstar Ken Zhu in “Batanes.”

“My first realization is that in spite of our differences, in terms of race and culture, people are just the same. We are all just actors. It all boils down to how we work and how we treat people.”

She says that Ken is a kidder. “When we arrived from Sabtang, we were greeted by people carrying a cardboard sign: ‘Miss Iza and company, we love you.’”

Iza was embarrassed. “It was as if I was more popular than Ken when, in fact, he is an Asian superstar. He kept teasing me about it.”

“Iza’s cool,” Ken describes his co-star. “It’s a pleasure working with her. We have a lot of fun on the set.”

A tai chi world champion, Ken says that he’s teaching Iza a few moves. “In this movie, I speak Mandarin; while she, in Filipino. So we mostly communicate through body language.”

In that sense, tai chi helped them bridge the language gap.

“Luckily, Iza is a good actress. She’s giving me a lot of support,” Ken tells the Inquirer.

“Tai chi is like a dance,” she notes. “He says it helps him connect with co-stars.”

Once, in the middle of a tai chi session, Ken complimented Iza: “He said that I have the gift. It meant so much to me because I see him not as an F4 guy, the star of ‘Meteor Garden,’ but as a tai chi world champion!” Iza exclaims.

Iza's Batanes Stories

Tawainese star Ken Zhu wasn’t the only who seemed to have enjoyed his stay in Batanes. Our very own Iza Calzado shares the same sentiments. In her interview with Lhar Santiago of Chika Minute, Iza reveals that her stay in Batanes was both fun and fulfilling—aside from shooting another movie, she found the solemn Batanes a great place to reflect on her spirituality. She realized this during a life-threatening incident in one of the islands: “Yung alon pala para talaga siyang sayaw, tapos sasabihin mo na lang…wala eh, siya talaga yung nagko-control. Feeling ko any moment, pwede ka niyang [ma-devour], parang the sea just chooses not to. So sinabi ko na lang, ‘Lord, thank You at buhay pa ako.’”

Iza says that she’s been to so many places all over the country but nothing can compare to the beauty of Batanes. “Nakaka-overwhelm siya. Everyday something just hits you na parang ang bait ni God,” the actress shares. Another thing Iza considers unforgettable, aside from the enchanting surroundings, is the bond that she made with co-star Ken Zhu: “Ang bait niya, feeling niya at home siya dito at saka gustong-gusto niya yung lugar. Sabi niya he’s having so much fun.”

But it wasn’t always like that, especially during the first day of the shoot. Ken and Iza had to go through the whole “getting to know you” stage, but when they found that they had so many things in common, they became closer than both of them ever expected. “Kumakanta talaga siya lagi at mahilig siya sa standards. Actually, nagkakaundo kaming lahat sa music,” she says.

More than just a local star, Iza’s career is definitely moving up. With a Hollywood film coming out soon and an indie flick with Ken Zhu in the making, we can truly say that Iza Calzado is a full-fledged, world-class actress.
