My colleague Ma Huo Yi and I under the Shanghai East coordinated to welcome the drama team of Tokyo Trial. In Nanjing, we met a survivor of the war.

Last August 30, 2006 at 3 pm, Director Gao Qun Shu, Actors Liu Song Ren, Zeng Jiang, Zhu Xiao Tian, Xie Jun Hao, Lin Xi Lei as well as the protagonist in the movie Judge Mei’s son Mei Xiao arrived at this newspaper.

Grandma Chen Wang Shi
We made an effort to do an especially nice backdrop, we requested 10 massacre survivors. They were for the most part accompanied by their children and other family members. A 93-year-old person arrived in a wheel chair.

The production group said it is the first time for all of them to meet a survivor and listen to them narrate their experiences. This made them all shocked and astonished even though they have all read their scripts.

At the elevator, I told Zhu Xiao Tian that there is a woman who came from Jiangsu Taizhou. He replied to me: “My native place is Jiangsu Taizhou.” He also said that his bloodline and ancestry is Yangzhou and its leader is the same. At that time it was just a simple chat, we were both in a light and funny mood.

At that meeting, I assumed the post of the host and introduced both sides our newspaper boss Qu Zhi Jian, Mr. Zhou Tong Gan accompanied all of them. Chief Qu gave a passionate speech. I discovered that when these actors faces the survivors they were very pious and respectful, F4 is not the usual F4, the HK and Taiwan actors would usually have a laughing expression but this time they were intent in listening. They each gave the survivors a CD, promotion book and premiere tickets.

Grandma Chen Wang Shi was able to catch up after 3 hours and arrived at the newspaper office. Before she was able to read her story her tears flowed already. After finishing, Zhu Xiao Tian walked toward the old grandma and hugged her. She personally witnessed a Japanese murder her mama.

The reporters hurriedly tried to take a picture of that scene but it was over when they arrived but they were still chatting. Zhu Xiao Tian pulled the old woman’s hand, someone suggested if they could embrace again so that the reporters can take a shot of that scene again. This type of scene is very typical of an entertainer. Everyone knew that Zhu Xiao Tian was not willing. He wasn’t willing that his hug of the old woman would lose its respect for the sake of a picture. The next day we still printed the article without photo of this embrace, I still am very thankful to Zhu Xiao Tian. He made me see the other side of Taiwan actors.

To me, one who has never lived in Taiwan and studied in Singapore, knows very little about life in these places. All I know is that they all possess a strong sense of traditional Chinese colors. Ken stayed in several places during his childhood, so what he sees and feels will certainly be different. So the first question I asked him was, “What do you think of the national characteristics of these 3 places?”

Without any hesitation, Ken replied definitely, “Comparing with any overseas country, these 3 places still preserves very much of the Chinese culture.” By Ken’s appearance, like his long hair, I thought that he had a westernized character…

“Nowadays, many youngsters will say: I’m Taiwanese, I’m Hong Kongese or I’m from Mainland China. I used to say that too, but now, I say I’m Chinese. No matter where you are, I’m very proud to be Chinese. In fact, not only in the context of our culture and history, many great theories are developed by us, and are much more advanced than the others. Personally, I’m rather “Chinese”, for I really appreciate Confucianism and Taoism. I believe that many foreign countries have not yet pursued our Chinese way of thinking.” I have never thought that Ken’s mind would be so full of Chinese concepts. You can understand how much he loves his national traditions in just a simple conversation.

Ken says that he takes Chinese tradition with honor. He admires the glorious 5000 yeared culture and remarks his outstanding nationality semblance, “I am born like this, with black hair, black eyes, yellow skin, in every sense, a Chinese.” Many people like to dye their hair to catch up with the trend. Ken looked into the mirror and told me he would not, because a Chinese should give out the flavor of Chinese.

On the day of the interview, Ken had this weary look on his face. We asked his manager if this trip to Hong Kong is very busy.

“Before we came for this interview, there were 2.” And then?
“3 more”
Oh, that’s tiring!

I’m not really familiar with F4’s Ken Chu. I only heard of his personality, likes, background and so on from others. Getting in contact with Ken Chu gave me two different cognitions of him.

Perhaps it’s due to his fully packed schedule which made him mentally and physically exhausted (On the day he featured for HMC, he already did 2 interviews and still have 3 more to go!). Hence, he seemed to be a bit moody and agitated when we were choosing the clothes for photo-taking. I was worried for him by looking at his wrinkled eyebrows and weary eyes.

But fascinatingly, when he requested to change the music we were playing into the ones he like which were from his iPod, it seemed as if he suddenly turned into someone else and immediately became a bright soul. His glowing spirit changed him into a really gentle man!

From then on, I strongly believe that music can really change one’s life, and I understood that Ken Chu is born to work in this field.

Mr. Kimura whom was able to be met after a long time. Ken approached at once, put love, slapped one's back, and held the shoulder. The word is unnecessary for them. Mr. Kimura who says, "As for taking a picture of the friend, I become shameful" Ken said. "Why is Mr. Kimura ashamed though I am not shameful? (laugh)" It makes fun of him, and surroundings are harmony.
Actually, Ken's feelings had gone somewhere while interviewing it. Inside of Ken's head "What will I eat with Mr. Kimura?" "What restaurant is good?" It was only it.
I wished to Ken at the end. "It wants you to sign to "Ken Chu's Delicious Relations" because it presents it to the reader. " "Oh! You bought ? Thank you!" Smile of whole face. "Happy New Year" that Ken wrote together I thought that this word called this year's luck.

This Zhu Xiao Tian is totally different from what was in my mind, the floral boy whose smile can ruin a city. He tried so hard the reveal his uniqueness.

Guest starring at Taiwan's tourism drama? Jerry Yan's manager rebukes rumours

Taiwan's tourism board idol drama "Right here waiting for u" has finally started filming, previously producer for the show, Angie Chai has announced that Jerry will be guest starring in the drama. However, Jerry's manager Mao Liang denied.
In April, when F4 visited Japan and Korea as Taiwan tourism ambassadors, they introduced Taiwan as a "country", which caused a heated controversy in China websites. Situation became more & more serious tat someone has started "boycott F4" movement.

News of whether Jerry will be acting in the Taiwan tourism drama has been going on for some time. Just when it is believed that only F2 (Zai & Ken) will be main leads in the show, there is rumour that Jerry has initiated to Angie Chai that he is willing to guest star. But after the news was released, Jerry's manager Mai Liang expressed: "there's no such thing".

In the past, there was some unhappiness between Angie & Jerry.
But at F4's concert in Hong Kong last year, they hugged on stage, putting their unhappiness behind. Yesterday, Angie Chai calmly express: "Even if he tells me when he's available, I may not write him in. At the moment, the script is still in the primarily stage. The guest list of the 2007 Asia Song Festival, Asia's biggest music gala, has been decided.

The Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange says 14 teams from nine countries will perform at the festival opening Sept. 22nd at Seoul World Cup Stadium. The star studded list includes Lee Hyori, Super Junior and SG Wannabe from Korea, F4 and Cheung A-mei from Taiwan, ZhaoWei of China, Gigi Leung of Hong Kong and Golf & Mike of Thailand.

The concert will be free and tickets can be downloaded from the foundation Web site from early September.

Chief of the foundation board of directors Sin Hyeon-taek says "we hope that the 2002 World Cup fever would repeat at the song festival as a venue to boost the Asian music industry and cultural exchange."

Ken was in Japan for two months. Because I have not heard that I met him in Tokyo, I suppose that he was in the district. I heard that he took the license of the Japanese car. Matutuwa ang fans ni Ken Zhou ng F4 dahil darating ng bansa ang Taiwanese singer-actor para gumawa ng pelikula. Konting detalye pa lang ang alam namin, pero feature film ito at may working title na Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.

Tamang-tama dahil umiere ang re-run ng Meteor Garden sa GMA-7. Siya si Xi Men, ang womanizer sa hit Chinovela.

Si Jennylyn Mercado ang nabalitang makaka-pareha ni Ken, pero exploratory talks pa lang daw ang naganap between the producers and her management.

May iba pang actress na talent din ng Channel 7 na kinu-condsider ang Ignite Films, producer ng movie, pero kakausapin pa lang.

Si Adolf Alix Jr. ang director ng movie na excited nang mag-shooting nang makausap namin sandali. Siya rin ang director ng Donsol at Kadin sa katatapos na Cinemalaya.

This is not the first time na pupunta ng ’Pinas si Ken, pero ang tatlong nauna niyang pagpunta rito ay para mag-concert.

Hindi kami magugulat kung magsuguran sa Batanes ang kanyang fans.

FIRST READ ON PEP: F4 member Ken Zhu returns to Philippines to shoot movie

Darating sa Pilipinas si Ken Zhu, isa sa mga miyembro ng sikat na Taiwanese boy band na F4 para gumawa ng pelikula. Ang tatlo pang miyembro ng F4—na nakilala sa Pilipinas dahil sa phenomenal hit nilang drama series na Meteor Garden dati sa ABS-CBN at ipinalabas ulit ngayon sa GMA-7—ay sina Jerry Yan, Vaness Wu, at Vic Zhou.


Napag-alaman ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) na sa September 28 ang dating ni Ken sa bansa para simulan ang shooting ng Batanes: Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan. Hanggang mid-October siya rito para sa shooting ng pelikula tungkol sa isang turista na na-in love sa Batanes.



Ang Ignite Films ni Dave Hukom ang producer ng pelikula na ididirek ni Adolf Alix, Jr., kilalang magaling na indie film director. Pero isang feature film ang gagawin ni Ken at ire-release ito internationally. Si Adolf ang direktor ng mga pelikulang Donsol at Kadin na kinunan din sa Batanes.



Pang-apat na balik na ito sa Pilipinas ni Ken, pero ‘yung tatlong nauna ay para mag-concert. Noong unang punta niya rito ay si Vaness at sina Barbie at Dee Hsu, o Asos Sisters, ang kanyang kasama. Sa pangalawa at pangatlo niyang balik ay kasama na sina Vic at Jerry.



Hindi rin ang Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan ang first movie ni Ken dahil ginawa na niya ang Sky of Love at Tokyo Trial na parehong released noong 2004, pero ang Sky of Love lang ang naipalabas dito sa Pilipinas.



Unang nabalita na si Jennylyn Mercado ang makakapareha ni Ken, pero may nakausap ang PEP na in-charge sa production na exploratory talks pa lang ang nangyayari between Ignite at ang management ng young actress. Pero nabalitaan din ng PEP na naka-block-off na ang schedule ni Jennylyn para sa shooting ng movie nila ng F4 member.



Ito rin siguro ang napabalitang indie movie na gagawin ni Jennylyn nang bumalik siya galing Hawaii.



Ang alam ng PEP, isa pang Kapuso star ang ikinu-consider na maging leading lady ni Ken, pero hindi pa rin siya nakakausap o ang manager nito.



Sinuman ang matuloy makapareha ni Ken, hindi pa rin sila ang original choice na maging leading lady nito. Kay Judy Ann Santos kasi unang in-offer ang project pero hindi nito natanggap dahil sa schedule.

Nakausap ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) ang direktor ng pelikula na si Adolf Alix. Nilinaw niya ang naunang naisulat na si Jennylyn Mercado raw ang gaganap na leading lady ni Ken sa pelikula na isu-shoot sa Batanes mismo.

Nilinaw rin ni Adolf na walang nang-agaw ng role kay Jennylyn.

"Kay Judy Ann Santos po unang in-offer ng Ignite Media Films ang movie noong ginagawa pa nila ang Ouija," kuwento ni Adolf.

"Gusto po ni Juday ang movie," patuloy niya, "kaya lang, wala na siyang paglalagyan sa punumpuno niyang schedule. Ang suggestion niya, si Iza Calzado raw ang kunin namin. Nang i-offer namin kay Iza, problema rin ang schedule niya dahil papunta siya ng Toronto, Canada para sa shooting niya ng The Echo. Wala pa kaming katiyakan kung makukuha namin si Iza.

"As producer, dapat mayroon kaming kunin para kung sakaling hindi puwede si Iza, mayroon kaming magiging artista. May nag-suggest po na si Jennylyn Mercado nga raw. Pero binigyan lang namin siya ng script for reading, pero hindi po namin sinabing siya na ang kukunin namin.

"Kaya lang, naayos ang schedule ni Iza, pati ang schedule ng shooting niya ng Desperadas sa Regal Entertainment. Wala na rin siyang TV show dahil katatapos lang niya ng Impostora. IF Iza Calzado can’t accept the Batanes project, saka pa lang ito mapupunta kay Jennylyn Mercado.

Mabilis talagang mag- slant ang mga nasa likod ng Starstruck star at kahit ano, gagamitin para maging consistent ang underdog image.

An independent movie na ipu-produce ng Ignite (na baka magkaroon ng tie up sa GMA Films) directed by Adulf Alix kung saan magbi-bida ang F4 na si Ken Zhu was first offered kay Judy Ann Santos.

Nagandahan si Juday sa script pero hindi siya puwede kaya nirekomenda niya si Iza. Dahil busy nga-yon si Iza sa Impostora, Desperadas at The Echo, pinabasa na rin ang script kay Jennylyn pagdating nito from Hawaii.

She will be considered just in case Iza too can’t make it. Pero ang naglabasang balita na, baka sulutin pa rin daw ito kay Jennylyn.

Summary: It is now Iza Calzado who will surely be Ken's leading lady in his moive that he will make here in the Philippines.
The role was first offered to Judy Ann Santos but she had her schedule full. Next in line was Iza Calzado but again there were some conflict with her schedule for she will be going to Toronto, Canada for the shooting of "The Echo". How ever her schedule was fixed for her other projects. She will be coming back to the country on September 23, right on time with the scheduled dates for Ken. They will do continuous shooting once they reached Batanes.

Nagandahan si Juday sa script pero hindi siya puwede kaya nirekomenda niya si Iza. Dahil busy nga-yon si Iza sa Impostora, Desperadas at The Echo, pinabasa na rin ang script kay Jennylyn pagdating nito from Hawaii.

She will be considered just in case Iza too can’t make it. Pero ang naglabasang balita na, baka sulutin pa rin daw ito kay Jennylyn.

Issue # 1: It’s final: Iza Calzado to star with F4’s Ken Zhu!

Since last February, the group of Ignite Media, Inc. has approached me to look for the appropriate lead for their very first solo venture as producers in "Batanes: Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan." Of course we all know Ignite Media, Inc. to be in charge of big co-productions such as "Exodus," "Kadin" and the latest Bong Revival filmfest entry "Resiklo."

Now, they’re coming to their own through this new project to be directed by Adolf Alix and Dave Hukom. What’s special about this project is that it will star F4’s Ken Zhu and our very own Pinay Hollywood actress Iza Calzado.

Written by Arah Badayos, Iza plays the role of Pam, the Manila girl who went to Batanes because she fell in love with an Ivatan. Ken Zhu portrays the role of a Taiwanese fisherman who has a mysterious affair with a girl he met in Batanes.

Among those who are tapped to play important roles in the movie are Glaiza de Castro, Sid Lucero and Coco Martin.

Before the role finally got to Iza, a lot of other actresses were considered. Judy Ann Santos, who was the top choice was the one who referred the role to Iza when they were doing "Ouija." Juday couldn’t not give a green light to the project since she is occupied till the first quarter of next year. Iza, on the other hand, had to fix and dabble through the Hollywood stint and the shooting of "Desperadas."

"Thanks to Roselle Monteverde, Manny Valera, Joel Lamangan and GMA Films for fixing Iza’s schedule," says Iza’s dad and manager Lito Calzado. "Iza really wanted to do the role and she is doubly excited since the movie is due for Asian release, too."

i SPEAK:

Congratulations to Iza Calzado for bagging the role of Pam in the Batanes flick. It’s true that other actresses were considered for the role particularly Jennylyn Mercado and Angelica Panganiban — but this is when Iza’s Hollywood schedules got in the way. But the producers thru their executive producer Arleen Cuevas said that, "those are all exploratory talks and Iza was our main consideration all along."

Ken Zhu arrives on September 26.

MANILA, Philippines - Following her Hollywood debut in “The Echo,” Filipino actress Iza Calzado is set to co-star with Taiwan’s Ken Zhu, formerly of the boy band F4, in a movie to be shot in Batanes.

The news was confirmed by the film’s producer, Arleen Cuevas and co-directors Adolf Alix and Dave Hukom of Ignite Media.

Adolf says Iza is “perfect” for the role—a Manila sales girl who relocates to Batanes and falls in love with an Ivatan man and a stranded fisherman from Taiwan.

The Taiwanese fisherman is to be played by Ken, while the role of the Ivatan is yet to be cast.

Adolf recalls that Judy Ann Santos was originally tapped for the movie, tentatively titled “Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.”

“She loved the script,” Dave recounts. “But there were scheduling problems.”

“Judy Ann recommended Iza, a good friend and co-star in the hit movie ‘Ouija,’” Adolf says.

Iza immediately expressed interest in the script, written by Arah Jell Badayos, who wrote and co-directed “Mudraks” for last year’s Cinemalaya.

Iza, however, bagged a major role in “The Echo,” the Hollywood version of Yam Laranas’ “Sigaw.”

Thrilled

That was when they thought of Iza’s fellow GMA 7 talent Jennylyn Mercado for the part. But Iza’s schedule eased up a bit and “she eventually signed up for our project,” Dave says.

Lito Calzado, Iza’s father, confirms that his daughter will start working on the Batanes movie in October.

Adolf says that from the start Iza has been excited over the script and the prospect of going to Batanes.

“She wants to get a feel of the place before the shoot. From Toronto (where she is shooting “The Echo”), she will proceed to Batanes.”

Ken Zhu, one of the stars of the popular youth drama “Meteor Garden” (currently aired by GMA 7), was just as thrilled over the script, relates producer Arleen.

“I got in touch with him through a friend of a friend who’s a Hong Kong producer,” she says.

After sending the script’s first draft to Ken’s agent, Arleen was surprised to get an e-mail from Ken.

“He said that he had read the script himself,” she notes.

Ken also acted as consultant, giving tips on the cultural practices in Taiwan, to make the script’s flashback scenes more accurate.

“Sa Dulo” is Adolf’s second film to be shot in Batanes, after Cinemalaya’s “Kadin” this year.

“After I did an ocular for ‘Kadin,’ I told Dave that Ignite should do a love story set in Batanes,” Adolf says. “For ‘Kadin,’ we used an HD camera, but for this new movie, we will be using a 35mm film camera. Batanes should really be captured on film.”

Iza chosen over Jennylyn in movie?

Iza Calzado, who is reportedly having trouble with her schedule, has been chosen to star opposite former F4 boyband member Ken Zhu for the local production "Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan" from Ignite Media Films.

It was also clarified recently that it is not true that the role was stolen from Jennylyn Mercado because it was to Judy Ann Santos that the role was first offered.

Judy Ann had to beg off from the project also because of schedule conflicts.

But the deal is not yet that sealed for Iza because she is currently juggling the Hollywood film "The Echo," "Desperadas," and TV's "Impostora."

Should more schedule problems arise, the role might be won by Jennylyn because she was suggested to do it in case Iza fails to clear her working air.

Follow-up ito sa nasulat naming pelikula rito ni Ken Zhu ng F4 to be directed by Adolf Alix, Jr., Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.

Sure nang si Iza Calzado ang leading lady ni Ken at siya ang tinutukoy naming GMA talent na kinu-consider kapareha ng Taiwanese singer-actor.

Hindi muna namin siya pinangalanan dahil inaayos pa ang schedule niya that time.

Walang sinulot na project si Iza kay Jennylyn Mercado, unang nabalitang kapareha ni Ken, dahil exploratory talks pa lang ang namagitan sa kampo nito at ng Ignite Films, producer ng movie.

Sa September 20 ang balik ni Iza from Toronto, Canada sa shooting ng The Echo at September 23 naman ang schedule ng first shooting day niya sa Batanes.

Sa September 28 naman ang dating ni Ken at hindi kami sure kung didiretso siya sa Batanes. Mabuti na lang at tapos na noon ang Impostora nila ni Sunshine Dizon sa GMA-7, shooting na lang ng Desperadas ang aayusin.

For the record, kay Judy Ann Santos unang inoffer ang project at maging leading lady ni Ken, pero hindi nito natanggap dahil sa conflict sa schedule.

In-offer ito sa actress noong ginagawa niya ang Ouija at matutuwa na kay Iza napunta dahil good friends sila.

EVEN if it’s just a rerun, “Meteor Garden” continues to rate very high on GMA-7 at 6 p.m. The fans of the F4 will be glad to know that one of them, singer-actor Ken Zhu, will be here in September to do a movie, “Batanes.” To be shot on location in Batanes, it’s about a Chinese visitor who falls in love with the untamed beauty of the islands. He’ll be staying here for three weeks.

The movie is written and directed by Adolfo Alix Jr., who also did the indie film “Kadin,” about an Ivatan boy searching for his missing goat all over the awesomely beautiful island of Sabtang in Batanes. Ken Zhu’s movie is meant for international release. While he’s here, his fans can ask him whatever happened to his co-stars in F4, like Jerry Yan. Two local actresses will appear with him and one of those being considered is Jennylyn Mercado, which is good for her since she does not have any show with GMA-7 now after her manager’s messy debacle with the network over Angel Locsin.

Sulutan?

BUMALIK na sa Toronto, Canada, si Iza Calzado last August 23 para sa resumption ng shooting ng first Hollywood movie na The Echo with Jesse Bradford at iba pang Hollywood stars.

Sayang nga lang at hindi na masasagot ni Iza ang akusasyon ng kampo ni Jennylyn Mercado na nanulot o nang-agaw ng proyekto ang magaling na aktres.

Ang Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan ay naunang in-offer kay Judy Ann Santos.

Para maging malinaw ang lahat, tinext namin si Adolf Alix Jr., direktor ng Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.

Agad siyang tumawag sa amin para linawin ang isyu.

“Walang sulutan o agawang nangyari,” sambit ng direktor sa kabilang linya ng telepono. “The project was originally offered kay Judy Ann, kaso talagang sobrang tambak ng trabaho niya kaya hindi naisingit sa schedule niya.”

Kinumpirma na rin ni Direk Adolf na si Iza na nga ang magiging leading lady ni Ken Zhu, member ng sikat na grupong F4 para sa first mainstream movie niya kung saan magiging co-director si Dave Hukom.

“After Judy Ann, si Iza na talaga ang choice ng Ignite Media Films. And for the record, it was Juday who referred Iza to us.

“That time, ginagawa na nila ang Ouija. Pero hindi rin maisingit ni Iza sa kanyang schedule. Tambak din ang trabaho nu’ng bata. Maliban sa kanyang taping ng Impostora, nakaabang pa ang pelikula niyang Desperadas sa Regal, and then pumasok bigla ’yung Hollywood movie niyang The Echo.

“Bilang isang producer, kailangan naming magkaroon ng fallback just in case hindi rin nga umubra sa schedule ni Iza.

“Kumbaga, naghahanap kami ng ipapalit kay Iza. Nagkataon namang may nag-suggest kay Jennylyn.

“So, pinadalhan din namin si Jennylyn ng script. But the script was intended for reading purposes only. Hindi kami nagbigay ng assurance na siya na ang kukunin namin,” pagtatapat pa ng direktor na nakilala sa indie films na Donsol at Kadin.

A day before Iza left for Toronto, nakipag-meeting na si Direk Adolf sa aktres at sa daddy nitong si Lito Calzado para plantsahin ang iskedyul.

Nakatakdang bumalik si Iza sa bansa sa Setyembre 20. Aakyat naman sa Batanes ang grupo ni Direk Adolf at ng Ignite Media sa Setyembre 23.

Magsisimula ang shooting sa Setyembre 25.

Kahit second choice lang si Iza sa pelikula, masayang-masaya raw ito. Nagpapasalamat din ang award-winning actress kay Juday for believing in her capacity bilang aktres.

Producer na ang nagsalita niyan na exploratory pa lang ang nangyari with Jennylyn.

Iza hindi nanulot ng project kay Jennylyn

HINDI pa man nagsisi-mula ang shooting ng Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan ay tila nahaharap na ito sa isang kontrobersiya.

Binabato ngayon ng intriga si Iza Calzado ng pralala girls and gays ng kampo ni Jennylyn Mercado.

Kumpirmado na ka-sing si Iza na ang gaganap bilang leading lady ni Ken Zhu (member ng F4) sa naturang movie na ipoprodyus ng Ignite Media Films at ididirek ni Adolf Alix, Jr.

Pinalalabas kasi ng kampo ng first female StarStruck winner na sinulot o inagaw ni Iza ang proyekto kay Jennylyn.

Galing na mismo sa bibig ni Direk Adolf (direktor ng indie films na Donsol at Kadin) na walang sulutan o agawang nangyari.

“Orignally, the project was really for Judy Ann Santos,” paliwanag ng direktor nang tumawag sa amin para linawin ang issue.

“Una naming kinausap si Juday nu’ng gabi ng Golden Screen Awards. That was March. We gave her the script, binasa niya at nagustuhan ‘yung role kaso talagang sobrang dami ng trabaho ni Juday. Hindi talaga niya maisingit ito. Hanggang nagsimula na sila ng shooting ng Ouija.”

Pagtatapat pa ni Direk Adolf, sobrang interesado raw ni Juday sa proyekto. Iskedyul nga lang daw talaga ng Drama Princess ang dahilan kung bakit binitiwan ito ng aktres. Ipinagdiinan pa ng magaling na direktor na it was Juday who referred Iza to them.

“Nang i-offer namin ang project kay Iza, schedule rin ang naging problema niya. Nagti-taping siya ng Impostora, tapos isisingit pa niya ‘yung shooting ng Desperadas ng Regal.

“And then pumasok pa ‘yung shooting niya ng The Echo sa Toronto, Canada. So, talagang walang assurance kung matatanggap din ni Iza ang project o hindi. So, kumbaga, kailangan namin ng fallback.”

Dito na raw pumasok ang pangalan ni Jennylyn. May nag-suggest daw ka-si sa Ignite Media at kay Direk Adolf na si Jennylyn na lang ang kunin in case nga na hindi rin umubra sa schedule ni Iza.

“We only gave her script for reading,” ani Direk Adolf sa kabilang linya. “But we didn’t assure her na sa kanya ang proyekto.

Nang binalikan daw nila si Iza, biglang naayos ang schedule ng dalaga ni Lito Calzado. Sa Sept. 25 pa kasi ang simula ng shooting ng Batanes at nakatakdang bumalik ni Iza mula sa shooting ng The Echo sa Sept. 20.

Ayon pa kay direk Adolf, tamang-tama lang ang pagbabalik ni Iza sa bansa sa schedule na ibinigay naman ng mga namamaha-la ng career ng Taiwanese actor.

So, sing-linaw ng tubig sa batis na hindi sinulot o inagaw ni Iza ang pro-yekto kay Jennylyn.

The island-province of Batanes was created by a series of volcanic activities and other geologic forces millions of years ago.

The province is home to the famous Ivatans who are nationally acclaimed as the “True Insulares.” The Ivatans are of Malay stock, tracing their roots to early immigrants from Formosa, Taiwan as well as Spaniards who came to the island in the 16th century. Being an insular people, the Ivatans have kept the purity of their gene pool through time.

The Province of Batanes is the northernmost and the smallest province of the Philippine Republic, both in terms of population and land area. The provincial capital is Basco.

The province is composed of ten islands (called the Batanes Islands) located about 162 km north of the Luzon mainland in the Luzon Strait and is part of the Cagayan Valley region in Luzon. Of this island group, the largest and most economically important are Itbayat, Batan and Sabtang.

The Batanes Islands are separated from the Babuyan Islands of Cagayan Province by the Balintang Channel and from Taiwan by the Bashi Channel.

The northernmost island of the province, as well as of the Philippines, is Mavudis (Yami) Island. The other islands are Misanga, Ditarem, Siayan, Itbayat, Dinem, Batan, Sabtang, Ivuhos, and Diadekey.

Only Itbayat, Batan, and Sabtang are inhabited. The Batanes is about 190 kilometers south of Taiwan.

PEOPLE AND CULTURE

The indigenous people of the Batanes are called Ivatan and share prehistoric cultural and linguistic commonalities with the Tao people of Orchid Island. With the exception of Spanish ancestry introduced to the Ivatan over the centuries, the Ivatan and Tao peoples are racially the same.

This divided nation is a result of the Dutch invasion of 1642. The northern half of the Ivatan homeland, Formosa and Orchid Island which were formally part of the Viceroyalty of New Spain, fell to the Dutch who were in turn expelled in 1662 by forces of the Chinese Ming Dynasty, led by the Chinese pirate Koxinga who then set himself up as The King of Taiwan.

The southern half of the Ivatan homeland, the islands of the Batanes, was reinforced and fortified by Spanish refugees from Formosa before being formally joined in the 18th century with the Spanish government in Manila.

The main languages spoken in Batanes are Ivatan, which is spoken on the islands of Batan and Sabtang, and Ichbayaten, which is spoken primarily on the island of Itbayat.

ECONOMY

About 75% of the Ivatans are farmers and fishermen. The rest are employed in the government and services sector. Garlic and cattle are major cash crops. They also plant camote or sweet potato, cassava, gabi or tuber and a unique variety of white uvi. Sugarcane is raised to produce palek, a kind of native wine, and vinegar.

In recent years, fish catch has declined due to the absence of technical know-how. Employment opportunities are scarce. Most of the educated Ivatans have migrated to urban centers or have gone abroad.

Distance and bad weather work against its economic growth. Certain commodities like rice, soft drinks, and gasoline carry a 75% to 100% mark-up over Manila retail prices.

GEOGRAPHY

The island-province is strewn on a 4,500 square kilometer expanse of territorial waters, the Luzon Strait and Balintang Channel, where the Pacific Ocean merges with the South China Sea, a sealane between the Philippines and the southern parts of Japan, China, Hongkong, and Taiwan. It is bounded on the north by the Bashi Channel, on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the west by the South China Sea, and on the south by the Balintang Channel. It is characterized by gently rolling hills, cliffs, and black and white sand beaches.

Batanes is about 860 kilometers (approx. 525 miles) from Manila. Basco, the capital town, is about 280 kilometers north of Aparri and about 190 kilometers south of Taiwan.

Almost one-half of Batanes are hills and mountains. Batan Island, with a land area of 35 km², is generally mountainous on the north and southeast. It has a basin in the interior. Itbayat Island, which has a total area of 95 km², slopes gradually to the west, being mountainous and hilly along its northern, eastern coast. As for Sabtang, mountains cover the central part of its 41 km² area, making the island slope outward to the coast.

The islands are situated between the vast expanse of the waters of Bashi Channel and Balintang Channel, where the Pacific Ocean, merges with the China Sea. The area is a sealane between the Philippines and Japan, China, Hongkong and Taiwan. It is rich with marine resources, including the rarest sea corals in the world.

The province is hilly and mountainous, with only 1,631.50 hectares or 7.10% of its area level to undulating and 78.20% or 17,994.40 hectares varying in terms from rolling to steep and very steep. Forty two percent (42%) or 9,734.40 hectares are steep to very steep land.

Because of the terrain of the province, drainage is good and prolonged flooding is non-existent. The main island of Batan has the largest share of level and nearly level lands, followed by Itbayat and Sabtang, respectively. Itbayat has gently rolling hills and nearly level areas on semi-plateaus surrounded by continuous massive cliffs rising from 20-70 meters above sea level, with no shorelines. Sabtang on the other hand, has its small flat areas spread sporadically on its coasts, while its interior is dominated by steep mountains and deep canyons. Batan Island and Sabtang have intermittent stretches of sandy beaches and rocky shorelines.

The terrain of the province while picturesque at almost every turn, has limited the potential for expansion of agriculture in an already very small province.

PHYSICAL

Batanes lies on a group of islands collectively called Batanes Islands and they are the northernmost islands of the Philippines. They are located between the Babuyan Islands (belonging to Cagayan Province) and Taiwan. The islands are sparsely populated and subject to frequent typhoons.

The three largest islands are Itbayat, Batan, and Sabtang. The northernmost is Mavudis Island.



CLIMATE


The climate is similar to that to Taiwan. Sometimes the island experience below the normal low of 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 °C).

The province is constantly swept by wind and rain, but the notion that it is battered by typhoons is wrong. If Batanes is always mentioned in connection with weather disturbances, it is because its capital, Basco, holds the last weather station in the north. It is a reference point for all typhoons that enter the Philippine area of responsibility. It has no pronounced wet or dry season. It is almost always raining, from the minimum of eight days to a maximum of 21 days a month. It enjoys practically four seasons, the best ones being summer (April-June) and winter (December-February) , when the temperature dips as low as seven degrees Celsius.

The best time to visit is mid-March to June. An Indian summer supposedly takes place in September. Sometimes, the weather is nice as early as February and as late as July. North or east winds bring in cooler air. They also bring in weather fronts and cloud build-ups that could cause flight cancellations. Cool weather—a phenomenon Ivatans like to call winter—prevails from December to February. When dealing with Batanes, always remember that, on these islands, the weather often changes suddenly. Just be ready for whatever heads your way.


LANGUAGE/ DIALECT

The mother tongue of Batanes is Ivatan, spoken by 93.94 percent of all households. The Ilocano dialect is also spoken while Filipino and English are generally spoken and understood.

HISTORY

The ancestors of today's Ivatans are descended from Austronesians who migrated to the Batanes Islands 4000 years ago during the Neolithic period. They lived in fortified mountain areas called idjangs and drank sugar-cane wine, or palek. They also used gold as currency and produced a thriving agriculture- based industry. They were also seafarers and boat-builders.

In 1687, a crew of English freebooters headed by William Dampier came with a crew of Hollanders and named the islands in honor of their country's monarchs. Itbayat was named "Orange Isle" in honor of William of Orange, and Batan was named "Grafton Isle" after Henry FitzRoy, 1st Duke of Grafton. Sabtang Isle was named "Monmouth Isle" after the Duke of Monmouth. Capt. Dampier stayed for less than three months, and did not claim the islands for the British crown.

In 1783, the Spanish claimed Batanes as part of the Philippines under the auspices of Governor-General José Basco y Vargas. However, the Ivatan remained on their idjangs, or mountain fortresses. In 1790, Governor Guerrero,The Governor-general of the Philippines at this point in time is Félix Berenguer de Marquina, unless Guerrero refers to a governor of the Batanes.) decreed that Ivatans were to leave their idjang and to live in the lowlands, thereby giving them more people to tax. Basco and Ivana were the first towns. Mahatao was then administered by Basco, while Uyugan and Sabtang, by Ivana. Itbayat was not organized until the 1850s, its coast being a ridge. Ivatans were then ordered to dress like the other Filipinos, and it didn't take them long to adapt. Soon, Ilocanos were being put in the islands, so as to control the native population there. Limestone technology used by the Spanish were also being spread to the islands, so that their bridges became strong and fortified. Some of these bridges still remain at both Ivana and Mahatao.

By 1890, many Ivatans were in Manila, and became ilustrados, who then brought with them home the revolutinary ideas of the Katipunan. These Ivatans, who were then discontented with Spanish rule, killed the ruling General Fortea and declared the end of Spanish rule.

Toward the end of the Spanish regime, Batanes was made a part of Cagayan. In 1909, however , the American authorities organized it into an independent province. Because of its strategic location, the Batanes island group was one of the first points occupied by the invading Japanese imperial forces at the outbreak of the Pacific War.

During the American colonial period, public schools suddenly boomed, and more Ivatan became more aware of their place in the Philippines. One of the first School Superintendents was Victor De Padua, an Ilocano, who in 1942-45 during the Japanese occupation was made Provincial Governor. His desendants now live in the United Sates, Manila and Los Baños, Laguna. In 1920, the first wireless telegraph was installed, followed by an airfield in 1930. Roads were constructed and the Batanes High School was instituted.

During the Second World War, the Japanese army had committed atrocities against the Ivatan. When the United States regained the country, Batanes regained its provincehood.

On July 23, 2007, a magnitude-5. 2 quake rocked Batanes, but no damage or casualty was immediately reported. The United States Geological Service (USGS)(www.usgs. gov), said the quake was recorded at about 10:58 a.m., with the epicenter at 40 km south of Basco town in Batanes, about 250 km northeast of Laoag, Ilocos Norte; or 560 km south of Taipei, Taiwan.

When I cook, I pay attention to the “food exchange.” It’s customary for modern day people to make their life as convenient as possible; we take for granted some things in life like opening the tap so that the water will come out. Not even considering where the water came from. But if you don’t consider these things in your life, I feel that is not good. That is why when I buy ingredients; I consider where it came from; the environmental condition of the place etc., I think of what is needed in the menu. This is what “food exchange” means...

When Ken was asked to play the role of XiangShuai it already caused a lot of resentments/reproaches, some people say he is too fat but the investors took a fancy on him. Ken Chu was surprised cause he said, “Getting the lead role of Gu Long’s novel isn’t really that important. Originally he liked the role of Hu Tie Hua more, because he always wears a beard, and he wants to pursue the uninhibited and unconventional kind of life.”
R: What are the circumstances during the photo shoot of CLX?

K: Honestly, this is my 7th year in this circle; over the last 5 years this is the happiest time for me. In this place, I got to know Chen Hao Min, Qiu Ci Xuan, every after filming day, we just walk to the nearby vendor stand and buy kebab, drink some beer, in this place it doesn’t really matter cause no one knows us, that is why we are so at ease. Qiu Ci Xuan is a South Korean beauty; she acted in “Shi Guan Yin” and many drama plays, when we act together its pretty good.

R: Do you like it that fiction is adapted for movies and TV? Have you seen Zheng Shao Qiu’s version of Chu Liu Xiang?

K: Of course I like it. Basically I have seen all the first generation novels that were adapted for TV. “Shen Diao Xia Lu,” “She Diao Ying Xiong Zhuan,” “XiaKe Xing,” “Jue Dai Shuang Jiao,” I all like them. I have seen a bit of Zheng Shao Qiu’s performance of CLX. Because when I was young my papa really liked this kinds of TV dramas. I would watch a lot of these things with him. But as for “XiangShuai Legend,” I don’t have a deep recollection of it. I just remembered that Zheng Shao Qiu as natural and unrestrained and that there were a lot of women beside him and those acrobatic fight scenes. But for this edition of CLX, I was thinking of finding the version of ZSQ cause this are classics but then classics lets your brain store this image and it will only cause me to limit myself. So I just gave up the idea of watching it. Reading the novel and on one hand watching the drama, I hope it will make you understand essence of Gu Long’s better.


Talking about XiangShuai: Chu Liu Xiang is a very logical person.

R: Investors say that they settled on you because of your “devilish” side. Is Chu Liu Xiang a character you can understand?

K: I feel that he is an extremely logical person. Actually, in Gu Long’s novel the characters are not that important, it’s the story that is important. The characters only assume the novel’s content, its bearing. Chu Liu Xiang is the same to all females everything is just a casual acquaintance; there is no special sentiment. He is a little naughty, but he is always a little cautious. Honestly, I like the Hu Tie Hua’s role, because he always keeps his beard. His unconventional life; is the one I pursue. Mainly, I will not stand in the mirror and shave. It’s a pity; the investors gave me the CLX role. When I learned
That I got the role, I spent a good twenty minutes shaving my beard clean.

R: Previously there was a photography of you that was published that seemed to show you were fat. Some people say that you can’t portray the dashing role of CLX, in the final analysis you seem a little fat.

K: No way, how can I be fat ah? Actually, I have been like this for so many years, my body weight has been constant. I am 1.82 meters tall, I have maintained an average of 74-78 kilos. This is in accord with the standard body figure. As for that picture, it’s because of health reasons. It’s very easy for me to be bloated, at Yun Nan because I am unaccustomed to the climate I bloat easily. Also that picture was taken when I drank a little wine in a wedding party, the paparazzi took a blurred picture of me that came out muddled, it made others think that I am fat. But actually, I am not fat.
R: What are your plans after doing this drama?

K: After filming this drama, I want to stop filming for a while; and will concentrate on recording my album. Originally the schedule for the release of my album was Spring Festival of next year. But because of this drama it was set aside temporarily, it will be moved to another schedule

R: Can we talk a little about emotions?

K: That is a blank space la. Honestly speaking, I am old already, I am not young anymore, and when I was young I would feel very lonely, honestly speaking I am already used to this kind of life, having blank spaces in my life. I feel that having too much emotion is troublesome. Falling in love will restrain me too much. Right now, I am quite ok, I can always talk to friends, being together with friends, isn’t that ok?

R: Can we talk a little bit about what happened with that embrace between you and Li Bing Bing, did that give you a lot of pressure?

K: I am sorry, really very sorry. I am not willing to talk about that matter. I will not answer any question that has anything to do with her. Because I am a man, it’s enough that I have “swallowed” this scandal I will not let a woman have a rough time.


R: Do you and the other F4 members link up?

K: Actually we don’t have any work together. We don’t usually link up, mainly because our life’s attitude is not the same but every time we see each other the feeling is ok.

R: Some people say that you have robbed Jerry Yan of the CLX role?

K: Honestly speaking I will not rob anyone for a role. Actually, at first, I didn’t want to accept the role of CLX. I don’t really need to rely on a role to prove who I am. Being in this business for 7 years, I unexpectedly found myself to be busy, I don’t even have my own life. This isn’t really what I want. Afterwards, talking with the company, we think that could be my breakthrough; adding to that at the end of last year I started learning shadow boxing. Before my limb movements compared to the other F4 was really poor, but after practicing Taichi for several months, I discovered that I can now spread out my arms and legs (I think he can do a ballet split) I am pretty nimble.

K: I can’t go as far as saying regret. Emotional turns of events are a plenty. For the past years, I have encountered a lot of human relationships and degrees. I saw a lot of ugly and hateful things and it made me grow up. Thinking that I have walked this road is a miracle!

R: Now back to the topic of life, previously I heard that you released your own cookbook?

K: That is correct. Actually, cooking is my diversion. I really like the cooking process.

R: Have you cooked for a girl in the past?

K: Of course, if it happens to be your girl friend’s birthday and because you don’t have any money, I will just cook a lot of dishes and make her eat of course you have to finish it off with sweet words. Nowadays there are a lot of girls who can’t cook. If you encounter a girl you like, be a family man’s girl. And if the boy can cook some tasty dishes, I think that girl will easily be touched.

R: Have you ever thought of being a master chef if you’re not an actor anymore?

K: It has passed my mind; right now what I really want to do is study, something that is related to food and drinks. But to go as far as to say a master chef, that needs a special talent.

Did Mr. Ken play the lead role in the drama and what does he think of his role?

First of all, there is nothing special with regards to the character. But it’s important to point out the places and the leading man is a stubborn person. I am also a stubborn person but only up to a certain extent. Therefore when I was playing that role, I needed to make an effort to release my stubborn nature, merging the two characters, adopting those two is the method I use. Before playing a role, I always analyze the person, I make a list of the person’s characteristics and I find the similarities between that character and myself. When I was acting at that time I felt very relaxed.


Regarding the title of this interview “Challenge.” We asked Mr. Ken about the various challenges in his life. What is the biggest “challenge” in his life?

I think life in itself is a big challenge. I don’t think there are small or big challenges in life. What do you face today? What you face today isn’t going to be your decision. The so-called challenge is “What will I do today?” If you need to do something today, you better make you sure you do it, make use of the things around you to finish it; that is my nature. But there are days when I don’t feel challenged, nowadays I don’t think about the challenges. Often times I will have difficulties and frustrations but for me it won’t be a challenge.

It is often heard that Ken is the prime gentleman among the F4. He always takes extra care on female colleagues even on daily work sites.

“I’m just more sensitive. Angie would appoint me to take up the role Xi Men was because my character is endowed with this nature, which tends to treat girls better. I feel girls are more delicate. However, he never thought of what type of girl he likes. A person will give you different impressions at various times. “For different persons doing the same thing, it will give you different impressions. You may find a girl very lovely talking non-stop. Ken admits that he's very fluctuating externally and internally, his thoughts are extremely conflicting and he has tremendous mood swings. He said laughingly that this is just how is acts. Regarding this personality of his, he has his own thoughts, "I myself live in conflict. Capricorns are half sheeps and half fish. To me, conflicts are needed to have points of view, have opinions. It's hard to be close to me not because of my conflicts, but because I'm frank."

He describes himself as being easily emotionally touched. When traveling or working the local scenery will always be very attractive to him so he also loves photography, trying to capture that feeling. Over half of the book that comes with his album is scenery. Ken says that he rarely takes photos of people. But he loves to travel. If he's alone he'll go to Hua Dong or Mt. Ali. And earlier he went to Paris and also took a visit to Amsterdam. He said that he had more time than I had imagined. He then laughingly said that he originally was not as busy as everyone thinks he is.

Besides traveling, Ken also loves diving, or cooking at home. Ken likes to stay home and is a person who takes what comes. He says that he doesn't have some big dream. From our interviews, he stresses many times that he loves to lead a simple and normal live. If there is no assignment, he prefers to remain quiet a home. He enjoys the experiences and the processes in every job

Speaking about a plan for myself….I really did not think too deeply

Being able to lead a carefree live, I feel that one has obtained the ultimate. A person’s live consist of some regular routines, wake up, eat, rest and sleep….through these years of experience, I personally think
that one should lead a simple live.

LiFe should be simple and do not think too deeply. Just like doing our daily nature call in the toilet…when you need to do it…grab a book or a
copy of the newspaper and have it done….at that every moment, you may experience a smooth process or a difficult one. However, once you
flushed the toilet, you will not remember it anymore. When tomorrow comes for another nature call, it is just another experience that you will need to undergo and it will not remind you of what had happened before.

Wow, if it's really true..Iza is very lucky to be paired with Ken. Ken is a great actor...compare to other 3 members of F4. (Peace to other F4 fans...it's just my opinion).

JENNYLYN FANS UP AGAINST IZA

IT’S final. Iza Calzado will be playing Taiwanese actor Ken Zhu’s leading lady in “Batanes: Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan.” Because of this, some fans of Jennylyn Mercado are lambasting her and GMA Artist Center. “Sinulot nila ang role kay Jen,” one fan writes us.

In all fairness to Iza, we’re told she’s really considered for the role ahead of Jen. Someone tells us that, actually, the producers’ first choice was Judy Ann Santos, but she’s already busy with her two films, “Kulam” and “Sakal Sakali Saklolo.” Juday was the one who suggested Iza, with whom she did the hit, “Ouija.”

But Iza’s schedule itself is also problematic as she’s shooting “The Echo” in Toronto. She really wanted to do the role so she asked if they could wait for her return from the shoot of her first Hollywood film and they are. So when she returns here on the fourth week of September, she goes straight to the set of her new movie in Batanes, in time for the arrival of Ken Zhu on September 26. Playing supporting roles are Glaiza de Castro, Coco Martin, and Sid Lucero.

Ken Chu and Ming Dao To quarrel due to a China drama "Chiv, Sword, Laugh (The Three Swordsmen)" . Yesterday producer Muxiaoguang could not help saying : "To fight to the other side with the mainland actors, rather than fighting inside closed doors themselves. Too narrow perspective, this will make outsiders look as a joke!"

"Chiv, Sword, Laugh," moive version was filmed by Andy Lau, Lin Ching-hsia and Xu Jin Jiang. The television version caused great sensation even before shooting. The original three leading men were Nicholas Tse, Ken Chu and Ming Dao. Tse later refused the drama due to his wife Cecilia Cheung gave birth to their baby. Then the war between Ken and Ming Dao staged. From the character, reward, circumstance to facility eqipped with, all become life-and-death wars. Once it is heard that producer Muxiaoguang is having "revolutionary sentiment" with Ken due to Chuliuxiang. He said to Ming Dao's agent that : "I only support Ken!" Then, there was news that Ming Dao has been kicked out from the drama.

Yesterday Muxiaoguang attended the movie "Contract Lover" premiere in Hong Kong, he sighed : "After I go to the mainland for filming, as long as there is Taiwan actor/ actress, I must give them suites, assistants and private business cars. But now if someone quarrel for whom earn 5000 more, whom has less car, I might simply change the roles into three mainland actors at the end. "


Muxiaoguang said, he spent money on the production. He paid reasonably for actor/ actress. The paid for 3 leading role in "Chiv, Sword, Laugh" are almost the same. Now, he needs one leading actor and wants to choose amongst Dylan Guo, Wallace Huo or Show Luo.

Ken's manager Mr. Chih also agreed to "muzzle external" theory. He is very confident about Ken's overseas advantages, absolutely the top priority of the production team. "I can take less money ah, but who is ranking ahead, we know it very well." He even denied the discords with Ming Dao's agent. And Ming Dao's agent trusts the sincerity of Muxiaoguang and doesn't care about this "saliva war". The other agent Xiang said that Ming Dao is popular in the mainland has become the fact.
