Shanghai Qiang Television manager Ren Shi Zheng stated it clearly: “Taiwan Idols are not popular in the mainland.” He cites Mike He who plays the lead in “Let’s get married!” China has seen this drama. But no one is willing to buy it. On the other hand, Taiwan idols in China don’t necessarily guarantee box office success, because Taiwan Idol drama rhythm is rather slow, adding to these is that producers do their work in a rough and slip shod way and it ruins the market.

Ren Shi Zheng thinks of testing the box office and drawing power of Taiwan idols, F4 was popular in China, their packaging was successful and they had “star” glamour, but in recent years China has also produced their own young idols like Huang Shao Ming etc. they have already outstripped the attractiveness of Taiwan idols.

Senior drama producer Ruan Qian Zhi said: “Taiwan idols who stay in China, no matter how fashionably packaged they are or use ancient costumes to dress up, the next test is if they are willing to do “hard work.” Ruan Qian Zhi said presently not many think of Taiwan idols for ancient dramas. She explains: “If idols are natural they can come up with a show but what if you don’t know how to do the movements of an ancient drama? Then that idol will have a hard time.

F4's Jerry, Zaizai, Ken and Vanness evenly sent out their summer powers. The entrance ticket sales for Jerry's The Hospital Charity Preview on August 13 are already sold out. Zaizai will go to China to promote "Silence" on the middle of the month, Ken's 2 year old "City of Sky" is still going strong, and birthday boy Vanness is in Hong Kong for a bithday meet. As each of the F4 is actively busy, a TV drama for them to star together again is far from never.

Among the 8 pm time slot programs, The Hospital will have a Charity Preview Screening on the 13th and about 3000 entrance tickets at the box office is already sold out, with more than half of it coming from Jerry fans of Japan. The Hospital Drama Supervisor Yu Xiao Hui fished out money from their own pockets to allot 8 to 9 Japanese translators and Jerry also alloted time to practice Japanese in order to thank the Japanese fans. When they prepare for the Preview Screening, the scene would be "oh hi yo!"

Zaizai's "Delicious Relationship" and "Flying Butterfly" are both TV and movie's top raters. For the "Silence" promo, he would go to Beijing on the 11th, as well as Shenyang, Shanghai and so on, and is about to proceed to Japan for the "God Mars" promo, to be with his female lead and present girlfriend Da S who first went alone to carry the promo. (huh? Mars promo in Japan is done already)

On August 7, Vanness will happily celebrate his 28th birthday with the fans from Hong Kong. Compared with F3, Ken became thin and haggard because of the death of his father earlier. While his weight has not decreased, he is different from the easy and plump look he used to have 2 years ago in Yunnan when he was filming "City of Sky". Eating steamed rolls daily, staff had suspected that Ken grew fat that time probably because of too much eating of steamed rolls.

F4’s summer offerings can attracts fans wonderfully, it can make their Asian fans go crazy! ZaiZai’s “Silence” has entered its highlight stage; to take advantage of this favorable momentum, the original soundtrack has been released. Yan Cheng Xu who hasn’t appeared for a long time is coming up with a “White Tower” on the 15th. Although Zhu Xiao Tian has loss his father, he is starring with Yang Cheng Lin in the very popular “City of Sky,” as for Wu Jian Hao today it is his birthday.

ZaiZai has finished filming “Silence” he will continue to be busy shooting with Patty Hou in the drama “Delicious Relations.” In the middle of August he will fly to Hong Kong to film the movie “Butterfly flies” with director Du Qi Feng. Although he is busy everywhere, Zai Zai has expressed his appreciation through leaving a message to his fans on the internet. It is reported that in the official website of “Silence” discussion area he has left a message: “Thank you everyone for your support. Many thanks that you have waited. Right now I can only say, you need not wait anymore, because I have come.” Idols who leave messages are very rare and it’s hard for fans to believe. Taiwan heartthrob Ken Zhu

The historical Chinese movie "Tokyo Trial" is finally set to hit movie theaters on September 1 across China. ¡¡

Led by director Gao Qunshu, all the cast met the press in Beijing on Wednesday. ¡¡¡¡

Six main theater chains in China will join for the first time to screen the Chinese film. ¡¡¡¡

The movie centers on the trial of top Japanese war criminals at the International Military tribunal for the Far East nearly 60 years ago. Eighty percent of the dialogue is in English and Japanese, adding to the international flavour of the film. ¡¡¡¡

The director revealed he had borrowed 5 million yuan to finish the film when financial problems took place. ¡¡¡¡

He has to shoot TV dramas later to pay back the loan. ¡¡¡¡

The film also attracted leading US and Japanese actors. Gao said he had thought Japanese actors would turn down the opportunity to perform in this historical movie, but they accepted the plot and delivered a professional performance. ¡¡¡¡

He added some Japanese theater chains also have contacted him to buy the screening rights in Japan. ¡¡¡¡

With a reportedly low budget, director Gao Qunshu nevertheless managed to gather a star-studded cast for his movie. ¡¡

Hong Kong veterans Kenneth Tsang and Damian Lau play a Chinese prosecutor and judge respectively. ¡¡¡¡

Tokyo Trials’ Director Gao Qun Shu agreed to a special interview and has this to say: “Because the investors weren’t able to come up with the money, the production group was in a crisis and it was on the verge of being dissolved, but he was able to come up with 5 million of borrowed money so that they could continue on filming. “During that time we would film on sheds, outside that shed were creditors waiting to collect the money, many of the staff were worried too. I was unable to give them any salary; all day long they would press me about problems. When Zhu Xiao Tian learned about this, he was the first one who came up to console me and said: “Director, I know the money is gone already and you have to come up with the money, what else can we say?” I was deeply moved. Even though others say that Zhu Xiao Tian plays big shot, during that time of Tokyo Trials he was the one with the most professional attitude."

Afterwards, at the Tian An Men Square press conference, Zhu Xiao Tian said: “I know of the directors hardships. He had a very difficult time." Director Gao Qun Shu was closed to tears, he told the reporters, the production and the actors all offered their help, but he gave the greatest assistance, on the last day of filming almost all the contracts expired already but no actor asked me about money matters. Zhu Xiao Tian has experience loss early in his life, earlier this month with emotions mended he returned to Xin Jiang to continue filming “The Legend of Chu Liu Xiang.” The temperature in that area can reach as high as 46 degrees. A few days ago he showed his impressive power when he was filmed suspended in the air. Luckily, he has previous experience with Tai Ji and Wu Shu, so this part of the drama isn’t difficult for him.

'Tokyo Trial' to debut on September 1

"TOKYO Trial" will debut on Chinese big screens on September 1, which tells the trial of Japanese war criminals in the International Military Tribunal for the Far East in 1946, Star Daily reported today.

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television didn't cut any shots from the original film, and granted it a full mark, the report said.

Insiders said the movie would be a milestone for Chinese films. Publishers claimed that the movie is one of the best films in China as it contains historical facts that China and Japan focus on in recent years.

The movie attracted many movie stars from all over the world, including Damian Lau, Eric Zeng, Ken Chu and Kelly Lin. Some veteran actors and actresses from Japan and the United States also took part in the film.

Gao Qunshu, the director of the movie, said the film condemns Japan's militarism, but Japanese actors agreed to join in the movie soon after they read the script.

Several Japanese cinema chains have contacted Gao to buy the rights to publish it overseas.

China's three biggest film publishers will jointly promote the film in six main cinema chains on the mainland.

When a tomboy won "Super Girl," a reality TV show broadcast by Hunan TV, arguments about gender characteristics became one of the dominant topics in Chinese society. "My Hero," a new reality TV show featuring all-male contestants, has attracted even more attention than "Super Girl" and even greater disputes.

The most serious controversy involves a contestant named Xiang Ding. Most female audience members 18 to 30 vote for Xiang Ding thanks to his cuteness and charming face. However, other audience members refuse to watch the program because of him, not other more manly contestants.

"I don't see his merit," an Internet user says about Xiang Ding. "He has a long and odd hairstyle and thick bangs, like a twig. With the same odd dress sense, he seems gaunt."

Xiang Ding is an extreme case in this competition. Contestants with strong bodies have mostly received a lukewarm reception from audiences. Instead, contestants with comely faces and mild tempers are more popular not only with the female judges, but also female spectators.

The term "metrosexual" refers to a heterosexual urbanite who rejects many macho attributes often linked to masculinity. He adopts many traits often associated with heterosexual females and gay males, such as expensive haircare and stylish clothes. It was first coined by British journalist Mark Simpson, and its usage has spread widely throughout the world.

In both western or eastern countries and reality or virtual worlds, men commonly associated with metrosexuality include David Beckham, Enrique Iglesias, Ross from "Friends," Takuya Kimura, F4 and Lee Jun Ki. They have the loyal following of the hearts of thousands of their female fans.

Some critics, such as another Internet user, Kevin, comment this phenomenon may pose a worrying danger in terms of the reproduction of human beings.

Other critics, such as Song Huaiqiang, thinks it is a misuse of women's rights. In China's male-dominant society, the public has tolerated Faye Wong brush cut and cool Li Yuchun's androgyny. However, it is difficult to give up the standards established for more than several thousands of years to admit the status of the metrosexual, including the less macho contestants on "My Hero."

However, society is changing quietly. Before the public dispute about this issue, countless metrosexuals have surfaced in Chinese society.

cguro sa lahat ng "point of view" ni Ken abt women, dito ako hindi nag-aagree. maybe before talagang medyo weaker ang mga babae at kailangan talagang alagaan, pero ngayon, for me equal na ang babae at lalake in all aspects of life. im not talking abt what women can do nowadays, like doing a man's job. its more on how women think nowadays. and abt dun sa "what a man shd be", just be faithful, ok na, wala ng problema! :D

No news has been heard from Xiao Tian for a while. His sudden
appearance in Beijing Peoples?? xxxembly Hall for ??The International
Military Tribunal for Far East?? was a complete surprise. Seeing him
in a nice suit with a beard, I wondered what role he will take in this
movie that was made to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the victory
against Fascism. This time the ??F3?? stand by him become Tsang Jiang
(Kenneth), Lau Song Ren (Damian) and Tse Kwan Ho. Xiao Tian appeared
to have become much mature. Later on, we were given an exclusive
opportunity to visit Xiao Tian at the studio where we urged to find
out more details.

Xiao Tian, ??the objective eyes??

The fictional role act by Xiao Tian is a Journalist named Xiao Nan. He
witnessed this vital litigation from a viewpoint of an observer. He is
thus served as the ??objective eyes?? in this movie, leading others to
explore the historical facts. It will definitely be an xxxet to Ken
for collaborating with numerous knowledgeable actors with performance
beyond scenes from usual idol dramas.

Question: What kind of person is he in this movie?
Ken: Actually this is a fictional character who is set to be a
Chinese. Although his family died in war, he did not directly
experience the battle. That is why he was able to look at this war
with an objective viewpoint. Since this is a historical story, one
ought to judge it objectively.

Question: What is the most attractive part of this role?
Ken: When I received the phone call for this project, I was in Taiwan.
Actually, I was on my way to diving, carrying my full set of
equipments. They told me that this will be a very touchy film and ask
me to decide weather I should accept the offer. Hence, I request to
take a look at the storyline. At that time, I was given an incomplete
script. Finally I decided to accept the offer. First of all, it is a
very meaningful movie. Secondly, its cast is extremely attractive. It
allied Tsang Jiang, Lau Song Ren and also Tsang Chih Wei. Originally,
they planned to invite Huang Chiu Sheng rather than Tsang Chih Wei.
Unfortunately the former encountered time conflict and cannot make it.
The project sounds quite good so I signed to join.

Question: As you have mentioned, this is a fictional character. So
what is the meaning of it?
Ken: That is to look at the history objectively. After all, movie is a
form of entertainment. If it were solely for inspiration, it??d be
better shooting documentary. Therefore, this film has to take into
account from an entertainment perspective so as to enhance its
attractiveness.

Question: There is an age gap in between you and this character. Will
it be under a special design?
Ken: This role is about 3 to 4 years older than me. Considering his
background, I did not design him to be a bearer. He did not personally
experience the war, nor had he faced death before his eyes in the
battle. It was until later that he witnessed others got killed during
his work, including his first lover. In fact, he lacked in-depth
understanding at the beginning. Nonetheless, being a journalist, he
did have certain exposures. He tends to observe this trial as a
bystander. Somehow, he is rather ingenuous and was unavoidable from
impacts. He went through series of incidents which changed him a lot,
included killing Kitano after Kitano killed Yoshiko. That was a big
swing.

Question: How do you convey the feelings of a mature man in terms of
intonation and body motion? Perhaps you considered yourself to be
matured man?
Ken: I don??t know. (Pondering?K..) Honestly, I??m only 26. Often, I
don??t think too seriously. I started working at my early years and
seldom had chances to get spoiled. It is no use to make it up.
(Laughed?K) That piece is absent from my character. At my present age,
I believe everything is a kind of process. It is not necessary to
pretend or out perform what is required at this age. To my
understanding, it is an opportunity for me to work with my instinct.

Question: Will the relationship between this character, Yoshiko and
Kitano fall into a tragedy?
Ken: I believe war is a misery. All three are indirect innocent
victims who were sacrificed by the war. Without the war, their story
will be different and I would be the only one left behind. (Laughed?K)

Question: Have you done a lot of studies in regards to the history of
??this great trial of the 20th century???
Ken: We were given some war documentary films on our first day of
arrival. It is called ??Sang Zhung Wei Shei Ming?? (To whom the
funeral bell rang for). I watched 3 to 4 times back and forth, marking
details to get hold of the feelings. In regards to the Japanese
session, my part is better. I didn??t have a lot of Japanese
dialogues. However, if I think it is better to present it in Japanese,
I??d request my Japanese teacher to put it in Japanese. For example,
during a conversation, it sounds much better to reply in Japanese when
it was started in Japanese. I also request my teacher to translate
some of my Chinese verses into Japanese when it suits for that
circumstance. Kitano, Tse Kwan Hao seems had almost all of his
conversations in Japanese. I heard he had to practice even when he was
eating and sleeping. That was a really a hard work. For my case, I was
able to manage it. Thanks to those Japanese TV channels in Taiwan. It
was not too difficult for me. Of course, when it comes to Cantonese
and Japanese, they are absolutely different. He (Tse) will mark his
pronunciation in Cantonese. I told him that they were not the same. He
replied, ??Leave me alone, leave me alone.?? (Smile?K) At that, I can
only said, ??Jia you! I??m afraid I can??t help you too much.??

Question: Coping with so many knowledgeable actors, what did you learn
this time?
Ken: I don??t think it??s a kind of learning. Staying with them, I
??sneak?? a lot of things. It was not only performance skills, but
also superior ways to deal with interpersonal relationships. That was
truly my honour. Often, we blamed the hardships during shooting.
Actually it was not that bad. Most importantly, we made a lot of
friends. That was the treasure for me.

Question: You sounds having a cold?
Ken: I have been sick for several days. Despite of the stuffy weather,
I have to wear those furry clothes. That was so hot! They suggested me
to imagine it was snowing. I said, ??Okay?K.yeah..yeah?Kyeah!??
(Laughing~~)


History ?V Revival of the Truth

No one wants to talk about war. Yet it cannot be neglected. Speaking
of this major litigation from the last century, young generations only
learned about its results but hardly know much about its process.
Apart from documentaries, we tried to learn more from this story.
Visiting the crew towards the end of filming ??The International
Military Tribunal for Far East??, we can almost sketch the history
from the image of rebuilt prop.

Real characters

Mei Yu Ao (Liu Song Ren)
Chinese judge of Far East International Military Tribunal
Age 42, a well-educated scholar who insists to uphold a nation??s
dignity. He brought Japanese war criminals into justice in accordance
to law. The calm patriot is rational, eloquent, righteous and
humorous. He was one of the key influences who sustained a fair
verdict in the Tokyo International Trial. He also took part in
drafting the report on Japanese invasion against China.

Xiang Zhe Jun (Tsang Jiang)
Prosecutor of Far East International Military Tribunal
Age 52. Studied in Yale University, USA after graduation from Ching
Wah University. Proceeded with his study in Law at Geroge Washington
University after graduation from Yale. He was appointed as the Chief
prosecutor of Shanghai Supreme Court. He was determined and responsible.

Ni Zheng Yu (Ying Da)
Chief consultant for Chinese prosecutors at Far East International
Military Tribunal.
Age 40. Returned from the States after receiving his doctrine degree
from the Law school of Standford University. He conducted thorough
studies on judicial systems in USA and Europe. He was invited by Xiang
Zhe Jun to xxxist him in Tokyo. From autumn of 1946 to Jan 1947, he
gathered various evidences within the country for this trial, in which
he performed proficiently in questioning the convicts.

Xiao Nan (Chu Xiao Tian)
Age 29. Chinese Da Kung Pao report. He studied in Japan and is
proficient in Chinese, English and Japanese.
He is mature and elegant. He is thoughtful but quiet, just like a
romantic poet and a warrior. He refused to betray righteous and beauty
of mankind.


Wada Yoshiko (Lin Xi Lei)
Japanese report for Asahi News, Xiao Nan??s first lover.
She was well protected by her brothers and sisters and believed all
people are kind. All evils are due to misunderstanding. She objected
war but found it to be unavoidable. Her life experience was so
confined, resulting her to be over optimistic. She only got angry once
in her short period of life. Unfortunately, her one-time rage led her
to be a victim of hatred. She wanted to be an objective journalist
reporting what she witnessed. She was so shocked about Kitano??s
changes. She finally realized her ignorance but it was too late.

Kitano (Tse Kwan Hao)
Age 30. Yoshiko??s neighbour and the best friend of her brother. He
was strong, stubborn and short-tempered. He would do anything for his
believes and goals. A real tragic role.

Wada Maso (Tsang Chih Wei)
Age 30. Yoshiko??s brother. A Japanese solider.
He was graceful and always ready to sacrifice for his family and
country. Unluckily the war turned him into a different person. He
became skeptical. He was frightened about man when he witness
Kitano??s brother went mad for killing. He hated war and expressed his
opinion against battles at the end. He then pxxxed away.

The International Military Tribunal for Far East

March 20, 1946, appointed as the Chinese judge for the Far East
International Military Tribunal, Mei Yu Ao arrived Tokyo.

Fellows and colleagues in Tokyo greed him in a welcome party. Mei was
present with a treasure sword symbolized his destine.

Da Kung Pao journalist Xiao Nan was responsible to cover the progress
of this Far East International Military Trial. He witnessed this
exciting moment in the party. However, he was worried. After all, Mei
used to be a scholar. Based on Xiao Nan??s journalist perception and
social experience, he foreseen challenges laid ahead for Mei.

Returned to his residence, Mei Yu Ao carefully stored the sword and
made a serious pledge.



Minor details behind the scene
The shooting was located at Xiao Dong San. It was the hottest season
of the year. The re-established 1946 Tokyo was built with wooden
houses. Traditional Japanese settings could be visualized from the
white curtains, Japanese shop signs and Oligami patterns. The green
troops on the side of the street made others feel insecure and nervous.

Q: You used so many Hong Kong and Taiwan actors, do you think its essential for an actor’s temperament to conform to the role or should it be a business decision?

G: There are three requirements: First, its essential that there is a large choice of actors, because our movie deals with the whole of Asia. It is not simply an issue of domestic concern. We need actors that have an Asia wide appeal. Secondly, it is decided by the theme of our movie. The theme of our movie demands that the actors should be able to speak at least two languages. This thing happened in Japan, but English is commonly used. Exchanges between Japanese, Chinese and American demands at least two languages. It’s very hard to imagine a group of Americans, Japanese and Chinese all speaking in Chinese. My requirement is for it to be as authentic as possible: the authenticity of history and law. My third consideration is temperament, they must conform to the movie’s demand.

As luck would have it, before Zhu Xiao Tian became famous, his parents divorced. And in addition to that the health of is mom wasn’t so good. This brought him difficulties in life. When Xiao Tian was young, he had to provide for the living expenses of his family. He worked and studied at the same time, he experienced working as an express delivery boy, service crew etc. there were times when he has to do 3 jobs in a day. He was tired and overworked for a long time; naturally this period in his life was very difficult to bear. This led to asthma and depression. Up to this day he hasn’t fully recovered from this illness.

The Tokyo Trial: Jam-packed. A film every Chinese should watch.

All Chinese people should watch this film, 83 year-old Xie Jin Zhi pointed out that the film Tokyo Trial is very accurate. The movie truly tells us how it happened.

Walking out of the Shanghai exhibition hall, Xie Jin sighed and he was filled with emotion, it wasn’t like this more than 10 years ago. I went to buy my own ticket and went inside the movie theater. This isn’t also the way they made movies ten years ago. And I am very impressed with the way they recorded the actual events during that time.

60 years ago, the trial of the century was held in Tokyo, Japan. For 2 years and 7 months with 817 cases, armed with the truth at the Far East International Big Trial, the eloquent Chinese prosecutors charged the Japanese for war crimes. Yesterday, the film “Tokyo Trial” with its historical records shook the feelings of the people. From 9 am, 13 movie theaters in Shanghai were packed when they showed the movie non-stop. A lot of notable learning institutions, veterans and old people watched the film. Director Xie Jin and Qin Yi were also one of those who watched the film, they talked of how they bought their own tickets and entered the movie theater, after watching the movie they were excited to no end. For more than 10 years now no movie of this style has ever been shown.

There hasn’t been a movie of this kind for the past 10 years, I bought the ticket myself and entered the movie house, and I was impressed with the accuracy of this film. Walking out of the Shanghai City Exhibition Hall, I felt so inspired. I had the impulse to make a film. In the year 1946, the Tokyo Trial took place, 28 Japanese war criminals were charged in court. The Chinese prosecutor meticulously presented the case against them; the feelings of the people were stirred by the debates. In the end, the war criminals were sentenced to death by hanging.

The film’s biggest attraction is that it has been able to maintain the accuracy of the events, it is packed with suspense. An old member of the Fourth Army who watched the film told the reporters: “I didn’t really think the historical facts of this movie would be presented in this manner; there are a lot of details in this film. I experienced life in those times; I know that these things are true.” Famous Director Huang Shu Qin also appreciated the true to like qualities of the film and praised director Gao Qun Shu. “This movie made me very excited, I really like the director’s historical concept, history will unfold right before your very eyes while watching the film, everyone was moved at the same time intense emotions will surge up out of you.

Actually, Tokyo Trials is the first movie of Director Gao Qun Shu. Yesterday, he modestly approached the audience to say hello. He found out that a lot of veterans saw the film; right there and then he bowed to them. He told the reporters, that in this film the most important thing is its authenticity. “During the filming we experienced hardships upon hardships but I knew the most important thing is the historical accuracy and law authenticity of the film. It doesn’t matter how this film would come out but these two things must be accomplished. It doesn’t matter if this will arouse some controversies.

It is reported that they will hold a charity screening on August 30, and on September 1, Hua Xia and H.K. An Le Film Distribution Company will jointly promote this film.

They needed 40 days to raise 5 million to finish Tokyo Trials.

At long last the audience has seen Tokyo Trials, old and young audiences have praised the movie. Director Gao didn’t think that his maiden movie will be plagued with a lot of difficulties.

Director Gao disclosed that when he received the news that he was supposed to direct the movie, he only had 1 month and 10 days to start filming, in such a short time he must revise the script, find actors, the job assigned to him was simply very difficult to accomplish. At that time he didn’t have the historical records and he didn’t understand that part of history. On one hand, he had to build the photographic scenes of the movie and on the other he had to revise the script. In that short period of time, he managed to read 10 books on the subject and find all the materials needed.

In the middle of filming he didn’t think that he would have problems, two investors pulled out, the entire production team was paralyzed because of lack of funds, he has to think of a way to borrow 5 million from his friends so he can finish the movie. The lack of funds affected the morale of the group, “Don’t you worry. From the time you signed the contract until we finish the movie; I will abosultely pay you every cent.” Actually, Director Gao was able to accomplish that.

In the movie Zhu Xiao Tian and Lin Xi Lei play the part of lovers and they also play an central figure in the court trials. Although Zhu Xiao Tian came from an idol background, he won’t lose face when he will be compared with the other senior actors, but Director Gao was very touched with Zhu Xiao Tian, during the time when the production was short of funds, on his own initiative he came up and said: “Even if the director can borrow money to finish the film, I will not get the balance of my talent fees anymore.”
