TVXQ-Royal Philharmonic Collaboration Stirs Cyber-Debate

Cyberspace is abuzz after news that the boy band TVXQ, known as Tong bang shin gi in Korean, will perform with Britain's Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Since it was decided Tuesday that the band will appear at a concert by the orchestra on May 13 in Seoul's Sangam World Cup Stadium, fans and detractors have been flooding the website of Interpark, which handles advanced ticket sales, with their comments.

"You're going to put a boy band on stage during a high-class performance?"
one irate user wrote. Another said, "I don't like it, because most of the
audience will end up being young fans." But there was also considerable
support. "It's just the bias of some people that the quality of the
performance will suffer as a result," one fan said.

M Entertainment, which is managing the performance, began advance ticket sales on March 28, initially saying the boy band god and singer Bi would be performing. When Bi dropped out due to a scheduling conflict and was replaced by TVXQ, some ticket buyers demanded refunds.

The Royal Philharmonic, which was founded in 1946, put out the "Hooked on Classics" series during the 1980s, and it has done plenty a lot of light
crossover work playing music from Pink Floyd to Oasis, among others. It will
accompany renditions of hit songs by god and TVXQ.

The Royal Philharmonic will also feature the Yun Do-hyeon Band on May 14 and folk singer Kim Yeong-im on May 15. The orchestra has yet to post its Korea schedule on its website, but M Entertainment said this was because some of the program details are not yet decided.

“What do you mean? I sing really well!”



Rain (Jung Ji-hoon, 22) responds in earnest, taken aback by the comment, “But you’re not as good a singer as you are an actor or a dancer, right?” It’s a change from the soft tone he’s been using to answer the preceding questions from the reporters gathered before him.



Rain will be taking another shot at acting in the upcoming “Full House” (directed by Pyo Min-su, written by Min Hyo-jeong) on KBS2, set to debut on July 14. He will play a top Asian actor named Lee Yeong-jae. It’s been eight months since his last acting stint on KBS2’s “Let’s Go to School, Sangdu!” His new show, “Full House,” is based on a comic series of the same name by Won Soo-yeon.



Lee Yeong-jae scores record numbers at the box office in each of his movies, but he’s arrogant and closed off, which makes him rather inept at love. He aims to neither hurt nor be hurt, but he slowly learns how to love when a woman named Han Ji-eun (Song Hye-gyo), a cheerful realist, comes into his life.



We met with Rain on the afternoon of July 6 in Sido, in Bukdo-myeon, Ongjin-gun, Incheon, where the set of “Full House” is located. Rain appeared wearing a large pair of sunglasses and a red sleeveless shirt that revealed his chest. “Since the character is supposed to be a major star, his clothes are a bit on the flashy side,” he quips. “So I tend to pay a lot of attention to the wardrobe.”



--So you’re playing a star on the show as well…

“Because I’m an entertainer, sometimes I’m not even at liberty to get angry when I want. Lee Yeong-jae is arrogant and selfish, and tries to solve everything with money. We’re both similar and dissimilar. If I behaved like my character does, I’d never hear the end of it.”



--This is the second time you’re trying your hand at acting…

“When I appeared on ‘Let’s Go to School, Sangdu,’ many people were saying that a singer shouldn’t try to act. Then, when I began to receive favorable reviews for my acting, some people tried to downplay it by insisting that it was because the character was so similar to who I am in real life. But if I do well again this time, maybe I’ll actually be recognized for my acting ability. There are many singers out there who are good at both dancing and singing, entertainers who have both looks and acting talent; I want to be one of them.”



--Are there any particular lessons you’re taking for your acting?

“I’m working with a diction coach. An actor’s enunciation is very different from a singer’s, so I had to learn it from scratch. When I was working on ‘Sangdu,’ I used to get three copies of the same script, because they’d always get tattered from my reading them so many times. The third and last copy was the only intact one. I don’t really like comics, but I read ‘Full House’ three times for the role.”



― What’s the difference between acting and singing? What if you had to choose one?

“Acting is fun because it lets you live somebody else’s life. But you can’t do it alone; you have to strike a harmony with your fellow cast members. Singing, you can do well by yourself. And if I point my finger in a certain direction when I’m onstage, thousands of people move with me, to follow where I’m pointing. Singing, acting--I don’t want to give up either. I guess I’m fortunate in this respect: when I get tired of acting practice, I can always work on my dancing, and if I get tired of that, I can go practice my singing.”



Song Hye-gyo, who stars as Rain’s love interest, remarked, “I’ve never seen an actor who works this hard. He always disappears somewhere with his script to go practice by himself.”



Director Pyo Min-su also commented, “He doesn’t seem to have had proper training in acting, but he seems to have a natural knack for it.” “He’s very hardworking and meticulous,” he added.

Rain will return to singing with his third album, slated for release in September. “I’ll refrain from dancing this time and concentrate on my ballads, to demonstrate my vocal prowess,” he laughs.

At the festival, the largest annual music event organized by Korean-Americans, Rain and Seven will perform their hit songs "It's Raining" and "Passion" and show off their impressive dancing skills.
The news that these two top-rated artists and dancers unrivaled both in Korea and the U.S. will perform together garnered much attention among local fans. Rain and Seven released their debut albums in America on Feb. 16 and 23, respectively, and made successful debuts in Japan as well. They also participated in the "Eyelove Concert," which was held in the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul, to benefit North Korean children.

The Korean Music Festival, which this year will be hosted by Yoo Jeong-hyun, will also feature other popular Korean artists and groups such as Hwi-seong, Geomi, Maya, JK Kim Dong-wook, Hong Kyung-min, In Sun-yi, Byun Jin-seop, Rumble Fish and NRG.

make an appearance once he's discharged. He's going to take a month's

i agree with you iluvchoco! dati parang walang kamalay-malay ang mga tao kay Bi .. tayo lng kinikilig at naloloka sa kanya. i remember our 1st ever EB... it was fun kahit less than 10 lng tayo. we share Bi's music and video clips! so nice to meet fellow Bi fanatic like you, alecs, hana and fine. During that time, i guess Bi was just starting to gain popularity in Korea and Japan. im happy to say that in less than a year's time, he's popularity zoom up ... and now his fans are countless :) im happy and proud to belong to the Gom Bi Mari Clan! :)

Hello~

Thanks to your support and prayers, my surgery went very well.
I was in the hospital until yesterday and today, I stopped by my office and first
wanted to leave you a message.

It was only for a short while, but while I was in the hospital I was really grateful to my fans,
and also to all those around me~^^

Oh! And also~
I learnt that nothing is more important than one's health..
There are many who are sick (w/cold) right now~
So I hope all of you take good care of yourselves!
If by any chance there's someone who's in the hospital right now reading this
I'll especially pray for you to become strong...

For all those fans who sent their best wishes and love because of my surgery,
I thank you all....
You know that because of that love, I'm a more blessed Bi, right?^^

This is my first time to post here in Tsinoy.com and what urged me to do so is my admiration for Rain of Full House!! He's multi-player, multi-talented!! So good in acting and singing...such a natural!! Ang layo nga ng voice nung dubber sa GMA sa voice talaga ni Rain (sobrang manly and cool). It seemed like GMA didn't give justice to Rain's voice!! Ok lang nga yun pero sana naman ma-realize ng GMA 7 that they should have debt of gratitude sa Full House at wag na silang mag-cut nang mag-cut! One of the best series I've watched!! Thanks to Jcrina, she opened my world to Full House and Rain!!!! :D
