The Korea Tourism Organization has appointed Rain (http://www.hancinema.net/korean_Rain.php), better known as Bi in Korea, to help spread Korean pop culture, tourist spots and restaurants around the world.
The tourism body is also promoting its newly-renovated Korean Wave Pavilion part of its marketing activities centered around Hallyu or Korean pop culture.

it takes a lot of getting used to bi's ever changing hairstyle. but the mohawk hair will grow to the previous length again, no worries. we love bi unconditionally naman eh

The entire production is absolutely fantastic...I have to use the word "worldclass" coz it really can rival any US production, maybe more. The speciall effects are great. The wings, the helicopter and the sun were of course there, but there are two noticeable additions. Rain's voice were a little choppy in the first two songs and his breathing were noticeably not good (at least to me). The reason for that I think is he vocalized first, then gave more time to warm up and stretch his muscles for his dancing. I think he didn't get enough vocalization because after 2 songs, his breathing is better and his voice sounded fuller.

The choreography is absolutely fantastic except for a couple of noticeable Michael Jackson poses with matching 1 gloves. Of course we all know the choreographer used to work for Janet Jackson and he used some Janet steps, but I think he's also attached to MJ a little. hahahaha The dancing is is almost flawless except for the Tango arrangement of Bad Guy. I've been watching the reality series "So You Think You Can Dance" the past months so I know how hard it is to shift from HipHop style to ballroom, so I really can't fault Bi and his dancers for this. I've also been watching Korean ballroom dance competitions on TV here and I know for a fact that Koreans "cannot" dance good ballroom because there are too stiff and too "by-the-number" so I wasn't surprised. So like I said, That number is the only execution I can find fault with, but this is only the first concert so they have a lot of time to improve this.

There are a couple of costumes that I don't think is good: 1 is the coat with matching red cloth on the shoulder that looks like a Christian choir uniform, and the white get-up he used for Friend is a shiny one like what magicians use. But the rest are quite ok. Maybe they will decide to change some of the wardrobe later on.

The most shocking thing was probably his hair, coz it was not only spiked, but the side was shaved close to the scalp. Paulette, this is Ricky Martin's Donald Duck hairdo, and I almost laughed out loud when I saw it. I'm not saying I don't like it coz I actually do. Of course his hairdo in the showcase is the better one, but what I like about Rain is that he keeps on surprising us with his hair styles. He's not boring. And when he do something like this, he gives us new things to talk about, right?

A Lot of you would probably be happy to know that the "mic stand molestation" is still included in the production and it was improved with the conveyor belt that goes around. Beleive me, the effect is good...I just don't like the shiny decoration of the stand.

Rain is now more confident on stage so he was more relaxed than the Rainy Day concerts. He interacted with the audience more, he did a lot of ad libs during his dialogues, he delivered his jokes with the right punch. Paulette and I once said, after watching the G.O.D concert last year that Rain should try to learn from them how to interact with fans while performing on stage. Now he's got it. And I think he will be able to behave the same way in other countries also because he is more confident with his English pronounciation and his stage presence is almost flawless. I was particularly impressed with how his facial expression has improved "A LOT". He is acting while singing and his voice matches his expression. I have more respect for him than ever before.

When you girls watch the Bangkok concert, don't be surprised if he calls all of you "chagya" or if he points out in a particular girl and playfully calls her "chagya". He did that tonight and it was a hit with the audience. The screemed on top of their voice...actually, WE screamed on top of our voice. hehehehe.

I miss the "girlfriend of the night" gimmick though, coz we now know that he is no longer going to get a girl from the audience. I also miss his strip tease hahahaha, coz it's also missing in tonight's concert. Actually he is more subtle now, which I actually like better. My only gripe is that he didn't pull up his shirt during the I'm Coming number...you all know which portion I'm talking about. I don't know of he just forgot or he intentionally didn't do it.

Rain has 4 women back-up dancers. One Asian (orange girl),one white American, one African American and one Hispanic. They definitely do not want to be accused of racial discrimination when they go to U.S. hehehehe But I have to say Orange Girl still has the best chemistry with Rain when it comes to dancing. Coz even if the other dancers held him close, it didn't look sexy to me. Hwa-young's facial expression was the best among them, but Menina is a really good dancer. Maybe she and Rain just needs more time together on stage and practice in order to make it appear believable.

The entire audience must have looked good in video because almost everyone was holding a glow stick. They looked good in person, very synchronized.

Good morning Biers!

After reading all the comments on Rain's first leg of his world tour in Seoul - pros and cons - let's move on.

What a wonderful news to start the day. Rain was featured in Unang Hirit at Ch. 7 and it reported about the kick off of his world tour in Seoul and the warm response it got from his fans. Bi was also mentioned as the "Justin" in the top-rating Full House and that the Philippines was included in the 30 countries he will visit for said world tour.

Thank you Kapuso for saying that "Humataw sa kanyang unang concert (http://showthread.php?p=612138#) si Rain sa Seoul". That is why we love Ch. 7 for being so friendly to Bi even if his last TV drama (http://showthread.php?p=612138#) was not shown there.

I am so happy to note that Rain's 2-night concert at Las Vegas was reportedly sold-out and I have a feeling that his Christmas will be spent with someone very special (SHK) this year. Well, another wishful thinking, indeed. :D

i did, yday, while watching FH dc dvd. it has an id (atm type), with a tag/mini card which can be used as a mini keychain if you provide the chain. however, it has no identification whatsoever, kht man lang member's name or id#. parang generic daw sbi ng mga fans sa JYPE hompy page. the jumper (metallic silver jacket) was i think, only one size, which of course doesnt fit all. i need an XL. it seems it's just M. ayayay. pano ko kaya isusuot yun?

'Cyborg' Gets Invited to Berlinale

Park Chan-wook's "I'm a Cyborg, But That's Okay" will be screened at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival's Competition section, eyeing for the Bears, the festival’s main prizes.

Dieter Kosslick, director of the prestigious European film festival, recently sent an official invitation for the offbeat romantic comedy film, according to All That Cinema, a public relations company for films in Seoul.

Director Park will likely visit the German capital during the festival in February along with actor Jung Ji-hoon, also known as singer Rain, and actress Lim Soo-jung, who starred in the film.

It is the second invitation for Park, who enjoys wide popularity among non-Korean audiences as well as domestic fans for his hardcore films such as "Old Boy." His 2000 film "Joint Security Area" was also invited to the Competition of the Berlinale, although it did not score any of the Bear Awards traditionally handed out at the festival.

"Cyborg’" revolves around a young female Yonggun (played by Lim), who believes she is a cyborg and is hospitalized in a psychiatric ward, and a young man named Il-soon (played by Rain) who chases after her.

The star director and cast caused a lot of media attention since the making of the film. But after a nationwide release on Dec. 7, only some 780,000 people have watched the movie at theaters as of Dec. 20. CJ Entertainment, which distributed the film, plans to close the screening around next week.

1. Concert sa Philippines - we are included sa itinerary nya pero wala pang definite na dates kung kailan, kung saan ang venue at kung sino ang promoter. Let's just wait and see.

2. Eternal Rain is available in most record bars, like Tower/Music One, AstroPlus, SM and Landmark record bars and some branches of Odyssey (yung malalaking branch). If you buy a copy, you're supposed to get a free poster. Kung di ka makakuha, just keep your receipt and present it to CloudPhilippines on any of their meetings and events to claim your poster.

3. Hindi po closed ang CloudPhilippines, bukas na bukas po kami. :D Please visit http://www.cloudphilippines.com (http://www.cloudphilippines.com).

The singer-actor Rain has been named the male celebrity most likely to make 2007 his year. In an online poll by the Sports Chosun, a sister publication of the Chosun Ilbo, between Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 asking which male celebrity will make the year his own, Rain came top with 32 percent. In 2006, he rose to stardom on the global stage beyond Asia, making it onto the list of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people as the first Korean entertainer, and performing at Madison Square Garden in New York in February, a first for an Asian singer. His popularity is to continue this year, too, as he has embarked on world tour he named "Rain's Coming" to coincide with the release of his fourth album.

The nos. 2 and 3 were Song Seung-hun with 24.1 percent and Yoon Kye-sang with 17.2 percent; both just completed their military service. Song started his schedule officially when he visited Japan in December and is currently looking at screeplays. He is expected to stage his comeback either in a drama or a movie soon. Yoon already decided on his first show after his discharge. He is to co-star with Lee Mi-yeon in the SBS drama "Crazy for You", which starts airing in February. Seven, another singer who has taken up acting, was ranked fourth with 12.5 percent. He will star in the MBC drama "Palace S-Prince House", to be aired in October this year, alongside Heo I-jae and Park Shin-hye.

Devotees of U.S. soap operas are increasingly voting with their feet, watching them not only on cable or satellite TV channels but engaging in such illegal activities like posting episodes of popular dramas with Korean subtitles online just a few hours after they are broadcast in the U.S. Pundits say as their number explodes, the viewer ratings of Korean dramas are shrinking. More than 1.5 million such fans are estimated to be out there online, more than three times the number three years ago. The cable channel OCN posted two or three times higher viewer ratings than usual on its "CSI Days" in June and October, when it aired seasons of the U.S. crime drama "CSI" 24 hours.

Why do people love U.S. soaps so much? It is mainly because they offer something different from the familiar fare of domestically produced dramas. The Chosun Ilbo asked translators of subtitles of U.S. dramas to compare shows produced in the two countries.

What you can find only in U.S. soap operas

Professions: Medical dramas in Korea are only about love between doctors and nurses, but that is not the case in the U.S. No matter what kind of professions they deal with, U.S. dramas depict their professional world realistically. "Nip/Tuck", which features two plastic surgeons, as well as "CSI", "Grey's Anatomy" and "ER" take us by surprise with their detailed and realistic description of the professions they feature. By contrast, most dramas except historical and period dramas in Korea are centered around romance.

Suspense: Korean dramas are filled with secrets, but viewers either know or easily guess what they are. Watch just the first few episodes and you know who will end up with whom and who will kick the bucket. In American soaps, the twists and turns are genuinely surprising in many episodes and viewers can have fun discussing the riddles. Cases in point are "Prison Break" and "Lost". That is why is many cannot tear themselves away once they start watching.

Seasons: U.S. dramas are made based on thorough preparation by producers right from the planning stage, so they can be shot and shown in several "seasons". But in Korea, there's not a big enough pool of actors and they act both in movies and dramas simultaneously, making it nearly impossible for dramas to last several seasons. In the U.S. stars usually have a home either in TV or the movies. If the Korean soap opera "Damo (Female Detective)" were produced in the U.S., it would have run over five seasons.

Episodes: U.S. dramas are centered around events but Korean dramas around relationships. That is why U.S. dramas have titles for each episode, which mostly tells a complete story for 60 minutes. In Korea, the relationships among characters unfold at a leisurely pace throughout the whole drama.


What only Korean soaps offer

Family: Korean dramas put much emphasis on relationships, especially on blood relationships. There are often three generations living under one roof in Korean dramas; that is rare in U.S. soaps. The main reason is cultural differences, but also because U.S. dramas focus more on what characters do rather how they live.

Writers: U.S. soap writers are not as powerful as their Korean counterparts. Usually, one drama season is produced by 10-20 writers together, and you can feel the difference in the language characters use; such differences come up even in a single season. For example, if you hear newly-coined words, it is because young writers wrote the lines. But emotional language has become a unique characteristic of Korean dramas, hard to find in U.S. dramas that focus on particular events. In many cases, U.S. shows even have different directors who attempt to put their stamp on the episode, and sometimes famous movie directors such as Quentin Tarantino in "CSI" and Tobe Hooper in "Taken" have a hand in producing them.

Stars: U.S. dramas do not cast famous stars when they start. The mega-hit sitcom "Friends" ran into trouble when the stars it made tried to command more money after its mid-point. But when it was first aired, all except Lisa Kudrow, who previously starred in one or two B-movies, were still unknown. sadly wla pa ngang sked for the phils. at naipost na din ni pau not to expect too highly kung mgkakaron pa nga ba. world tour is supposedly up to may lang. yung bangkok niresked ng june cuz of the new yr bombings, so for security reasons. wla ng bagong sked na pinopost.

nakakalungkot din na naaksidente pa si bi sa hk at me mga pics na naka-arm sling na sya. here is my post at soompi regarding this matter. sana di na ito maulit during the entire course of the tour.

rain's arm was put on a sling. that means it needs a little immobilization. a sprain needs this. all the more a dislocation, which is more serious than a sprain. but a fracture would need a cast. aigoo, bi! how can you heal completely in 6days? singapore concert is on sunday already and the dance routine is strenouous and tedious.
in my previous post i just wished it was either an abrasion (scratch) or completely nothing as he was gone and back in 60secs. as i was reading the other posts here, i find it completely unbelievable that such accidents could occur repeatedly cuz it already happened to other performing artists in hk. that's a pity and a shame. the artists would always give their best performances so as not to short changed their audience. but the least that can be done for these artists is to be afforded the best protection and accident-free measures while performing on stage. aigoo. i just wish bi would get completely well and that these accidents wont occur again for the entire world tour.

what should have been SOP/protocol for a fall or any trauma/accident for that matter is to have an x-ray exam of the affected part, in this case the left arm for bi, to check for the specific type of injury incurred.

way back in 2002, i fell on the stairs and had a complete linear fracture from my elbow up to my left arm just below the armpit. initial x-ray was misread as normal and 2 wks later, i had limitation of range motion in the said arm, another x-ray showed a complete linear fracture which called for open reduction/surgery. up to now i still have 3 pins tucked in my left elbow and 28 stitches to boot. the recovery period was more tedious as i thought. i was in full cast for 2 months and 4 months on physical therapy to rehabilitate the arm. it is healed now but the left arm became shorter than the right.

i hope JYPE would really take bi to a hospital for a thorough diagnostic test and medical check-up.

unnie, arm slings are generally used for immobilizing the arm that has been sprained, dislocated, or fractured. so at this point until JYPE issues a statement of the real condition of bi's arm, we really dont know which among the 3 he has. i hope it's just a sprain. fractures would require either a full or posterior cast. and there is no way bi will be allowed by the doctor to continue with the concert. he will be advised rest for complete healing. unless he will just sit and sing, which i doubt so much if bi will do that. he will feel so disappointed, knowing how driven he is, so dedicated to the perfection fo his craft. for now, our utmost concern is bi's health. we just want him to be physically well, to be completely healed of that injured arm. wer just hope and pray for a full recovery.

Rain arrived a while ago at 1154 via KE641 fight inbound from Korea (Incheon Airport), a few days ahead of his Jan 21 concert (Sunday) here in Singapore.. http://www.cloudphilippines.com/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif http://www.cloudphilippines.com/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

The flight was delayed for almost half an hour ( he was supposed to be landing at 11:30)...a lot of fans were there...Rain Sg (of course) ...Korea, Japan and others (Malay ata un and me from the Phils)...there were also a lot of cams and TV stations..notably MBC news whose cameramenpt taking pix and vids...RainSg was supposed to give Rain a basketful of goodies, garlands and flowers but due to super tight security was not able to do so..i think they gave i thru Unusual (who brought Rain here)...

anyway, today's news is..hearsay news..i was at work so my friend My Sweet Bibi told me...

a few (<10) fanclub members and other fans wentas early as 10AM to stay at his hotel's lobby....someone came out in a little while to inform the fans to refrain from screaming, taking pics and rushing up to him...then Rain came down and he was walking slowy , smiled and waved at my friends...they tried to be formal and politely smiled back....then they left after him to accompany him to the Manna korean restaurant where they ate lunch...
then he had a press conference at the new restaurant, Jewel Box , at Mt. Faber at 3PM..was there til 5:30..rode the cable car to Harboutfront (a mall) and left for the hotel..ever since he was not yet seen...perhaps as of "press time" he has already made his way to MOS (Ministry of SOund) or Cafe Del Mar...whichever he went to, i'm sure he will enjoy his first night out in Singapore...

tomorrow will be his rehearsal day so hope your cousin can drop by the indoor stadium and try to watch it...in the past, some fans were allowed to watch the rehearsal as long as they are not loud and rowdy...so there...as for the hotel, the RainSG fanclub is refraining me (and others) from posting his hotel anywhere...sorry for that but the MODs are really strict about it....we all know that Rain is kinda scared of huge crowds gathering upon him and we can't blame him..he is still a very shy guy when it comes to that....

btw, when we were "chasing him", the drivers were allowing each other to have a chance to be close to him - read as : be in the next lane to him...and if drivers here go even a little above the speed limit, there's an alarm that will go off inside the car to remind the driver about his speed..and his car was like 60 most of the time..so we were all "slow"....and don't worry, all of them have been doing this for years...even when Bae Yong Jun, Shinhwa etc was here..they also "chased" them....i know you are concerned but be reassured that his safety was in our mind always....

Jung Ji-Hoon which is his real name goes, is promising a mega show on a scale, never seen before in Singapore.

Speaking after touching down in Singapore which he is visiting for the first time, the singer said he's impressed at the warm welcome given by his fans adding, "this is my first concert in Singapore and I made a promise to Singapore fans, so I have to keep this promise. I will give my best to put a very good show on Sunday."

This is despite the fact that he says he's not fully recovered from his injury in Hong Kong.

The “Rain’s Coming” World Tour is the largest concert ever given by a Korean artist and is expected to be on par with the latest by American pop diva Madonna, in terms of scale.

The production crew includes famous names in the business including Jamie King, who has choreographed for Madonna, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera; lighting specialist Roy Bennett; and visual director Dago Gonzalez.

Speaking through an interpreter at a news conference in Singapore on Friday, the Korean sensation also known as 'Bi' said, "I've been practising hard for this concert (and) this concert is going to be an event mixing Asian and Western cultures. So I am really very confident Singapore fans will enjoy themselves..."

He revealed that one of his biggest challenges is the world tour where he aims to make his concerts a success, giving credit for this to his fans.

Although an Asian, Rain isn't big only in Asia, having performed at the 2005 American MTV Video Music Awards and staging sold-out concerts in Madison Square Garden, New York City and Caesars Palace Hotel, Las Vegas last year.

Voted as one of the most influential artists by Time magazine, Rain says he aims to use his high profile to bring the culture of Asia to the West.

He is also helping to raise awareness of the plight of AIDS orphans and children affected by AIDS as an ambassador for World Vision HIV/Aids.

“I agreed to take up this challenge as I heard about the HIV/AIDS reality that 8,000 children are orphaned by AIDS everyday and over 14 million children have lost parents to AIDS every year. Devastation caused by HIV epidemic in Africa during 1990’s could be revived here in Asia soon unless we intervene swiftly,” says Rain.

Rain saw a meteoric rise to fame since his self-titled debut album in 2002 and is known as much for his dance moves as his singing talent and charisma as a performer.

Off-stage, Rain is known for his acting roles in various Korean television dramas, the most successful being “Full House” which catapulted him to mega-star status particularly in South East Asia, where the series has aired.

During his tour Rain is also taking the opportunity to promote his debut movie here “I'm a Cyborg but that's OK”, which he has described as a "fantastic experience".

Rain’s world tour “Rain’s Coming World Tour in HK” on the 2nd night of his concert on the 13th. Rain had fallen into a hole at the concert due to like an elevator thing did not close in time and he fell 10 feet under. He fell right into the whole and due to this incident he had fracture his left elbow*hairline fracture*. He was bleeding a bit after he came up from the stage. When Rain fell it was very dangerous because the hole he fell into, underneath there were numerous of chairs there. If he had fell into the chairs something horrible or worse would of happen to him.
After awhile, the lights were turned off after he fell and he managed to climb back up after falling 10 feet. During the rest of the concert he endures his pain and continues on with the concert. He continues to do his show with powerful dances and movements. After the concert ended he went and seeks medical treatment for his arm.
After his injure, he successful completely his 3 days concert in HK. In addition, he successfully finished his Singapore concert on the 21st.
Rain, truthfully said that Hong Kong’s concert was the toughest mission he had in his life so far. On the 19th Rain had a press conference in Singapore and he said on the 2nd night of HK’s concert he fell and that caused a fracture in his arm. But because he promised his fans in Singapore and Malaysia he would have to endure the pain and continue on. He endured his pain and did his 3rd concert in HK. He mentions again, that, the 3rd night was one of the most difficult times he had in his life.
Yet he continues to show his determination: even though the wound from Hong Kong has yet to heal, I will still perform my best, to put the best show for all my fans. As his determination, on the 21st at Singapore, he held his concert. He nervously attracted 10,000 spectators and will have a show unlike any before.
At Rain’s interview he mentioned that he was very lucky that nothing seriously had happen because if he had fell into the chairs things would have gotten worse. He was very lucky that, that wasn’t the case.
Rain returns to Korea on the 22nd and will have a concert in Malaysia on the 27th.

im crying while reading this. does he even have to prove anythg to us? if he cringes in pain, wont we be feeling the pain as well? we're no sadists so we dont need him to bear all this pain, dont need him to be a masochist. aigoo! i can talk like this bec. i also incurred a complete left elbow fracture. was in cast for almost 3 months, had to be fed, had to be given a bathe. i was practically a house patient and it wasnt easy for me. then came the physical therapy after, all of 4 months and there were 3 surgical steel pins and 28 stitches. but unlike bi,i wasnt stubborn. after the surgery, a cast was immediately in place. bi should take care of his health. we dont want him deformed. so why bear the pain for us and continue with this world tour? money isnt everything. i think at the end of the day, we will all appreciate that HEALTH IS WEALTH. we want him well and this is what is most important at this point in time.

if he continues to always think like this, prioritizing his career at the expense of his health, he might suffer the consequences and he will regret that. now i know the difference between rain and other celebrities. he is a lot more stubborn than them. others would have just cancelled this tour altogether while recuperating. i hope i didnt sound bitchy. i am just worried for his health, that's all. if i am not a fan, why would i care and worry this much? i hope he listens to medical advice

Too Much? The Top Advertising Earners Revealed

Advertising has developed beyond a mere means to sell more products into essential cultural content that can have a powerful impact on the way the public see the world. Among professionals, actors are particularly in love with advertising and the steady income it can provide -- not to mention the stellar fees for some top earners who stand to make more from commercials than from a movie or TV series. Some advertisers are complaining that the trend has led to a bubble in the amount stars charge for flogging products. The Chosun Ilbo takes a look at the prices of some top stars.

A survey of 30 producers, account executives, designers and copywriters in six major advertising companies shows that some top stars like Jang Dong-gun, Lee Young-ae, Goh Hyun-jeong, Lee Hyo-lee, and Jeon Ji-hyun get between W700 million (US$=W935) and W1 billion for a one-year contract that requires them to shoot a TV and two print advertisements or two commercials and a print ad, and W400-500 million for a six-month contract to shoot a TV commercial and a print ad. Some were paid as much as W1.2 billion for a one-year contract. The respondents were unanimous in saying that is way too much.

Many said the amount is disproportionate to production and other costs and should not exceed W500 million for a year. They said prices should come down 30 to 40 percent given that some stars appear in six or seven ads at the same time. Others said fees should be cut by half or not exceed W300 million.

The advertising professionals warned the fees can cause a sense of inequality, and point out that it is consumers who have to pay for them. Cutting the fees paid to stars and using the savings for production will make for much better ads, they say. “Stars should try to use their appearance in an ad campaign as an opportunity to create another image, but some seem to care only about the money,” one lamented.

We also asked respondents who they think are the best advertising models. They were asked to name the three stars they would most like to work with on a scale of 1 to 3, with 3 being the best. Jang Dong-gun came first with 42 out of 90 full points. Reasons cited include, “He is capable of changing his image in one way or another to match different products he represents,” and “He has unrivalled charisma.”

Rain came second with 25 points. “Although he has appeared in so many ads, he still appeals to the public. He is particularly suitable for ads for products with a short life cycle, like mobile phones,” one comment read. “It can’t be ignored that the public think of him of as a global star,” read another. In third place was Jung Woo-sung with 19 points. “He is careful in managing his private life, with no scandals,” said one professional. “He is also stylish and is in perfect physical condition to be a model.”

Among women, Jeon Ji-hyun led the pack with 26 points, followed by Moon Geun-young and Lee Hyo-lee, who shared second place with 17 points. Respondents said that Jeon, despite her strong sexy-girl image, still has appealing charm. They praised Moon for her rich facial expressions and Lee for her liveliness.

As stars with big potential to become top advertising models, the respondents named Joo Jin-mo (13 points), Song Il-gook (10), and Lee Min-ki (9). Joo won plaudits for his fine features and constant efforts to improve his image through drama and film, while Song was valued for his acting skills and favorable and trustworthy image due to his role in MBC hit drama “Chumong.” Among women, Kim Ah-jung ranked first with 20, followed by Han Hye-jin with 7 and Hyun Young with 6.

Korean Singer Rain Took Over His 1st Fort in the US Market

Star M, the managing company responsible for Rain's World Tour, announced on the 9th that they have sold the right for Rain's 2006/2007 World Tour Concert to the US based Revolution Entertainment for 2.25 billion won. The term of the contract begins from Feb 8/07 to Dec 31/07.

This contract has helped Korean Music to make its 1st step into the world's market, and it's certainly a good news to cheer about.
In the past, the audience of any Korean singers' performance in the States were usually limited to Koreans resided in the US. Yet, with this contract, Rain's performance will be the 1st to be directly managed by a large US management company. Looking at this now, it really signifies something important.

A representative from Star M said that after Rain's Dec performance in Las Vegas, there were lots of local producers expressed their interests. Though they still haven't decided which US cities will be chosen for the concerts, but with the signed agreement on hand, his appearance/performance in US will possibly increase by number.

SEOUL, Feb. 10 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actress Jeong Da-bin was found dead on Saturday, local police said.

They said Jeong, 27, hanged herself at her boyfriend's house in the morning. The boyfriend, who was only identified by his last name Lee, discovered the body and reported the incident to the police.

The police suspect that she committed suicide considering there was no sign that it was a murder, and are trying to determine the exact circumstances of her death.

Jeong, who also became a South Korean pop culture star in Taiwan in 2005, acted in television dramas and movies.

If her death is confirmed to have been a suicide, it would be the latest case of a well-known South Korean actress or pop star taking her own life. A female singer Yuni committed suicide on Jan. 21, while movie actress Lee Eun-joo killed herself in February 2005, which shocked many South Koreans.

In a strong year for Asian films at the Berlinale, South Korean star director Park Chan-Wook accepted the Alfred Bauer Prize for work of particular innovation for his sci-fi romantic comedy "I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK."

The Many Faces of Rain

After much anticipation, Korean superstar Rain made an appearance in Singapore!

Who’s would you say is one of the most recognisable Korean artistes in Singapore at present? Bae Yong-joon? Lee Byung-hun? Kwon Sang-woo?

Not anymore, we’d reckon. The brightest Korean star in Singapore right now is probably Jung Ji-hoon, better known as Rain. The 24-year old came into town for the first time last month as part of his Rain’s Coming 06/07 concert tour, set to dazzle his local fans with a fantastic performance. One that would justify die-hard fans spending $488 for a concert ticket.

Rain also met the local media during an almost hour-long press conference held at The Jewel Box up on MountFaber. Perhaps he was tired out from his early-morning arrival, or his injured arm was causing him some pain, but Rain rarely cracked a smile the whole time. It was only at the pleas of photographers at the end of the Q+A session that he gave us a glimpse of his grin, and a little wave.

teens got to squeeze in two questions for the mega-star, and this is what he had to say...

teens: How do you feel about this concert being one of the biggest ever held by an Asian artiste?
Rain: The concert has been pretty successful, thanks to the support of many people. I believe this is the biggest concert tour an Asian artiste has ever held, and has brought me to many different places like Hong Kong, Las Vegas and now Singapore. I have put in every effort into this concert, and I am quite happy with its success so far. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my Asian fans, including my fans from Singapore, for supporting me on this endeavour.

Let us support his wish. I think Bi had realized that life is too short after that accident he had in Hongkong. I felt that many had overlooked it, it was so fortunate that it had not been fatal and so he can still savor that 'happiness" he longed for that we all know based from his interviews.

Rain's contract with JYP will expire in May and it is speculated that he may not renew it and follow suit with Bae Yong Jun, Lee Young Ae and Lee Byung Hun and become an independent. JYP signed him up 5 years ago at only 5,000,000 Won. Rain does not earn as much as we think but should he sign a new contract, it should be at least 2000 times that amout to 100,000,000,000 Won this time around. His management company said that at the moment Rain is busy doing the world tour and this issue will have to wait until then but they would not mistreat Rain. Rain would be in concert in China and tickets will start selling close to March 1. He has confirmed that he would be there for a fan meeting to promote the concert next month. Singer Rain, a “star of Asia,” has recently knocked on the door of the American music market with his concert at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. He will likely work with top American star Omarion, who is dubbed “the second Usher,” to produce a joint album and act together in a film.

During Rain’s concert in New York on Feb. 3, the second day of the scheduled performances, Omarion displayed his impressive dancing ability onstage. During the concert, Rain once again called him onstage, hinting that he was pushing forward with a secret project with the American star.

Since both of them have singing, dancing and acting abilities, fans, journalists and those from the entertainment industry who filled the concert hall to capacity that day, showed extraordinary curiosity about what they were planning.

On Feb. 9, an official from Rain’s agency, JYP Entertainment, raised public expectations about their joint project, saying, “These two young men, who can dance, sing, and act well, can work together to release a duo album or act together in a film.”

Fans snatch up pricey tickets to catch Korean pop star Rain in City

Over 70 per cent of the tickets for Korean pop star Rain’s concerts in HCM City on March 10-11 have been snapped up already with local newspapers describing it as unprecedented.

The 4,000 best seats, each of them priced at VND2.5 million (US$156), were sold out by last week.

Organisers of Rain’s shows, Viet Nam’s D&D Advertising Company and Korea’s Enterone Entertainment Company, decided early this week to increase the number of tickets for each show from 20,000 to 24,000.

Rain, also known as Bi, will perform as part of his Rain World Tour 06-07 and his foreign fans have bought some of the most expensive tickets. Over 1,000 Japanese fans have even booked rooms at the New World Hotel where Rain will check in on March 7.

The superstar, one of the best-known male singers in Asia, will sing 19 Korean and English pop songs at each concert on what will be his second tour of Viet Nam. He first came in June last year for a 19-minute concert in HCM City.

Rain, 24, real name Jung Ji-hoon, was initially a dancer who now combines his amazing dancing skills with his smooth-voiced singing.

His popularity in Viet Nam has been rising particularly with young people following his lead roles in South Korean TV series Let’s Go and Full House shown on HCM City Television last year.

His world tour started in December and will last until May, taking him to 11 countries and territories including the US, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, China, and Hong Kong.

The organisers of the shows said the cost of staging them, chiefly sound and light, would be $2.8 million. Equipment for the shows has already arrived in HCM City from Singapore and Australia.

A 600-strong security force from Yuki Co along with 60 youth volunteers will maintain order at the shows titled Rain’s Coming to be held in the 7th Military Zone Gymnasium in Phu Nhuan District

"I could not get a ticket for Rain’s show in HCM City last year and I’m desperate," said 18-year-old Tran Thu Hien. "I’m happy that now I have a ticket for his show next week in HCM City. My friends and I like him. He is a star. He’s handsome and he’s a good dancer," she said.

Hien along with thousands of other Rain fans, who are anxiously waiting for the sight of their idol, will wear T-shirts printed with his photos at the concerts. — VNS

"Rude and arrogant Singapore report (Newsis 3 Mar, 2:23pm).
In representation of the management company of Singer Rain (25), Mr Hong Seung Song commented on the article which was "unworthy of mentioning", and said that they will be "making a legal reponse through international lawyers".

Hong saidm "Even we were shocked at the slander made towards Rain, who is developing rapidly in Asia. In future, we will need to pay more attention while being overseas. The report by local media in Singapore is groundless. "Needless to say in the airport, even in the hotel where he was residing, or inside and outside the concert stadium, Rain had always greeted his fans humbly. No matter what, Rain himself is not such a person."

Moreover, "how can it be possible for him to be full of smiles the entire day?" "Even when he smiles 10 times, just not smiling once evokes unhappiness." It is puzzling indeed. JYP has asked the publisher of this fictitious report to make a corrective report immediately. If the said media does not apologize and clarify appropriately, they shall take the publisher to court for slander and untruthful report.

The report made on 2 Mar by this electronic newspaper also criticised Rain for demanding "special treatments" during his concert in Singapore on 21 Jan, saying he "unsmiling during the press conference" and calling him "a difficult guest in the hotel".

wow, this is great. making public announcements/ giving hints as such. i just love for rain to be happy. he deserves it. he has worked so hard since he was a teen. he is 25 and if he thinks he is ready to settle, he should go for it. i was actually discussing this with a friend last week that he probably wants to marry b4 he enters the army. 2 yrs later, he would be going home to a beautiful wife and probably a daughter who looks like his wife.he definitley is one happy guy since the changsha FH promo with shk.

Rain in Vietnam for World Tour

Singer Rain has visited Vietnam to give a performance in the country’s economic center of Ho Chi Minh as part of his world tour. The top Korean singer will hold concerts at the city’s QK Stadium with 25,000 seats on March 10 and 11. Earlier on Thursday, he held a press conference where some 100 newspapers and broadcasters attended.

Arriving at the Ho Chi Minh International Airport by private jet and dressed casually, Rain gave a brief interview with local broadcasting company HTV, where he said, “My condition is very good and I am really looking forward to giving a performance here.”

He also waved and smiled at his fans waiting for him there. Some 1,000 fans shouted “Rain,” holding pickets in the shape of the letter “R,” and took pictures of him. A high school girl said, “I first became his fan because of his good-looking appearance. But I also got to like his sweet voice and powerful dancing. Many of my friends are also his fans and even my mom is his fan, so she let me come here.”

07.03.13 Unexpected GOOD responses in Vietnam~

Rain's world tour in Vietnam won good comments and the audience's responses were unexpectedly GOOD!!

Rain's Vietnam concerts was unexpectedly successful!! Rain held two concerts at Military Zone 7 Stadium, Ho Chi Min on March 10 and 11. There were about 15k - 25k audience in each concert and more than 100 media followed up to report his world tour.

Rain had a 19-min short performance in S-fone concert held in Vietnam last June. Although more than 20k audience, most of them are Korean. However in this Vietnam world tour, Rain attracted fans from different Asian countries. There were quite a number of Vietnam fans who couldn't afford the tickets, but they still gathered outside the stadium and cheered for Rain. In overall, audience gave good comments that the concerts were wonderful~ Every song was quite impressive and Rain's charisma on the stage was fabulous! Vietnamese media commented that Rain's dancing skill is comparable to MJ and among all foreign singers, Rain is the most popular.

Vietnamese official media highly praised Hallyu and promoted more learnings from Korea, such as how Korea promotes their cultural values in overseas. This is one of the grand concerts held in Vietnam, it is undoubtedly excellent in terms of costumes, props, dances, lightning, etc.

In his two-hour concert, Rain sang 21 songs including <I'm Coming> <It's Raining> <Touch Ya and I like you again>. Before this, he mentioned his intention "Try Vietnamese bihoon" and gave the locals a good impression. More than 1000 security guards and bodyguards were hired for these concerts. The concert equipment is more than 50 tonnes in total in order to create the desired visual and audio effects.

VietNamNet Bridge – “Vietnam being chosen as one of Bi-Rain’s Asian stages helps to affirm Vietnam’s status in the integration age,” said Nguyen Trong Ngoc, President of D&D, the organizer of Rain’s show in Vietnam.

To have a Bi-Rain performance in Vietnam, D&D had to start the invitation process one year ago and experienced many difficulties. The Korean partner had to be persuaded that Vietnam had a capacity to organize a world-class programme which the Vietnamese public would be interested in.

D&D efforts seem to pay off, especially for the Vietnamese entertainment industry. “Rain’s coming” is paving the way for performances by other international artists who may now be less reluctant to perform in Vietnam.

“Bi-Rain has more than enough to be a star. He has good looks, communication charm, performing skills and good health. He makes the best of his dancing ability. As for supporting technology, there is nothing further to be said than that it is impeccable. Bi-Rain’s show wasn’t just his own show, but the work of many first-class international showbiz experts,” said Quang Dung, a Vietnamese pop star.

With the contribution of many leading specialists in the international showbiz such as stage director and choreographer Jamie King, video director Dago Gonzales, production director Thomas J. Hudak, and light director Roy Bennet, Bi-Rain’s show met international technical standards.

Most of the songs in the show were sung in Korean. The near-ending performance was imbued with features of Korean culture such as the Korean flag, traditional clothes, Korean arts, as well as Asian dragons, which help to reveal the cultural message of Bi-Rain’s world tour: It has been the Republic of Korea’s ambition and plan to introduce to the world the symbol of the Korean national and culture. It wasn’t just business considerations that urged Korean Air to sponsor Bi-Rain’s world tour.

After Rain’s show, other Asian stars such as BoA and Seven from Korea and Edmund Chen from Singapore are planning to visit Vietnam in 2007.

Vietnamese stage specialists certainly did learn a lot from Bi-Rain’s world-class performance, and they will continue to learn from an increasing number of stars’ performances in Vietnam in the future.
