Whenever he starts out, his fans who knew everything would know of his every schedule. When he goes to Dubai for fliming, there'll be a "tourist group" following. When he sits in business class, there will be xu fans who will be fixing their seats beside him. When he gets down the plane, there will be recievants who will tell others outside of his arrival.

For example, during his few times in HK, xu fans would arrive one plane before his. When news that he would be coming out of A64 gate, they would wait there for XU. Jerry Yan's stress shows, shouts out

Jerry Yan craze the whole Asia with his role as DaoMingSi in Meteor Garden 2 years ago. This year, with the price of HKD $ 6,0000 per episode, he took out half year of his schedule and acted in a drama, White Tower, which was seen as the top dramas in Taiwan, hoping to show rating miracles once again.

As the male lead, Jerry have started work for White Tower for several months. Everyday, Jerry would become the doctor Su Yi Hua in the show. Jerry worked hard to examine acting skills. However, earlier on, there were rumours that because of his poor acting skills, he was being scolded a "pighead" by Director Cai and his confidence level fell for some time.

As the spokesperson for Oral B, he came to HK for a day to attend a event. Jerry who has the title of Bao Long really slimmed down alot. However, he still showed his bannered smile. As to how to act out Su Yi Hua, this role, Jerry said it's important to be engrossed in the role but he don't have any experience of being a doctor. Previously, the fliming crew arranged for him to go to the hospital to do "intership" and observe. He saw how doctors did operations for patients, but he felt giddy when he saw blood.

Jerry faces pressure when fliming White Tower. Jerry, who looked brave, admitted that he did cry before. Asked if it is problems to do with his acting skills ? He said, "When you manage to act out a certain role, the Director would be happy, you'll feel that your acting skills went up, so this is how i cried."

Jerry has a rumoured girlfriend, Lin Zhi Ling, which got many guys jealous. When reporters asked more about his relationship life, Jerry laughed and said half of it in cantonese, "I don't pa tuo! You guys reported it than i knew i went pa tuo ! But i really did not!" It's rumoured that Jerry would be giving a dog to Lin Zhi Ling, asked if he is a warm and romantic person ? Jerry's eyes gave electricity and said, "It's very romantic ! I shouted I Love You to someone on the streets 6 years ago. Many people saw it, although it is embarassing, but i do it for the person i like. If i were to meet the next one who loves me, i'll do that again , because i want to give her happiness !"

When Jerry meets his love, would he ignore his career and get married ? Jerry said without thinking, "Yes! It's best i can do it at 30 ! Jerry said his requirements for his partner is simple. Someone who'll listen to him talk about his problems, However, he said, "As a celebrity, some problems should not be said so easily!"

Yes, on Valentine's Day 6 years ago, i screamed "I Love You" to her in a very busy road. The passerbys thought they met a insane person, but i myself know this is romantic. I would even go to the supermarket and queue up to help her get private stuffs, the employees looked at me with funny eye expressions, i'm okay, it's quite crazy, move all the way foward.

Jerry Yan ‘Longing for someone to caress my head’

As Oral-B Healthy Smile Ambassador in Asia, Jerry Yan attended the ‘Oral-B Meet Jerry Yan’ event in Hong Kong on the 14th of October. He chatted, took photos and played games with more than 30 fan representatives from all over Asia.

As the sole media personnel from Mainland, {Shen} had a chat with Jerry Yan for over an hour after the event.

Before the interview, the fans wanted me to rely this to him,‘30 marks a Man’s maturity, he needs to set up home and then establish his career.’

This was told to him word for word and his answer was beyond anyone’s expectations. ‘I long for a love as passionate as Dao Ming Si. To have a space in time where I could totally be at ease; for that someone who would caress my head when I am down.’

‘I am like Dao Ming Si when in love.’

It was such a relaxing chat that it slipped my mind when the subject of ‘Love’ was broached. Before the interview, I was cautioned about this type of questions.

Perhaps it stemmed from his filming of ‘The Hospital.’

He reached Hong Kong on the 13th afternoon and was still filming in Taipei the whole morning. So he had a mild cold due to his hectic schedule. His nose seemed blocked and was sniffing now and then. Later on he politely apologized for this.

He admitted that since ‘Meteor Garden’, he has yet to come up with any significant works. Those with him and he himself are in anticipation of ‘The Hospital’.

{Shen} : You play a doctor in ‘The Hospital’, many people have had bad childhood experiences with hospitals like the white robes, masks etc, do you have any?

Jerry : It’s quite strange for me. Actually I have never been to a hospital when I was young. As we were poor, if I had any cold or any minor illness, my dad would give me a jab.

{Shen} : Your dad is trained?

Jerry : No, he just picked it up.

{Shen} : Isn’t that quite of dangerous?

Jerry : I rather liked getting sick actually . . . . . .

{Shen} : Weird child.

Jerry : Ha ha! My Dad will love me more when I get sick. (Pause for a moment.) In my family, females are more favored. Like during mealtimes if my sister gets angry and just leaves in huff, my dad won’t say another word. But if I even chew with the slightest sound, he would give me a tight slap. (A short pause.) My dad passed away when I was in my first year of Senior High. Working as a seamstress, my mum couldn’t earn much and her health wasn’t good. Since Grade 5, I have been working. Jobs like gluing boxes for packaging toys, a construction worker, a bartender and so on. In fact, I’ve done almost all kinds of jobs. Even in doing business, I had to have some wits about me. My home was in the countryside so everyday I have to take a 4 hour trip to school. With that and work, I really didn’t have much time left for school.

{Shen} : So you long for someone to care for you?

Jerry : One should long for that growing up in a single parent family. Like when in love, there is someone to laugh and cry with me. In love, I am very much a one woman man like Dao Ming Si. At times, I might even a little domineering and unreasonable. Everyday I just want to have her in the palm of my hand.

~ Why Do I Get Dumped Every Time?

At the Press Conference before the interview, Jerry Yan was trying his best to chat in Cantonese with the Hong Kong reporters. He was asked if he will take off his clothes like Rain and pit muscles with him; if he dared to have a bed scene with Sammi Cheng like in the ‘Everlasting Regret’. . . . . . One gets goose-bumps at how gossipy it was. Many a times when his Cantonese was inadequate, he makes up for it in Mandarin.

After his ‘gossip’ session with the Hong Kong Press, he was a little down when he returned to his room. Looking out of the window, he took a few deep breaths. Yet beyond the window lie the hustle and bustle of the harbor and the simmering of the waters. Another Jerry Yan is being reflected upon the glass. He ‘tidied up’ his hair, turned around saying, ‘Can we take the photo now?’

Within 5 mins, Jerry Yan was able to tidy up his mood. What about when he has setbacks in love?

{Shen} : When in love, one would do all sorts of silly things.

Jerry : Right. It was on the Valentine’s Day 6 years ago. I was at the busiest street and I shouted to her at the top of voice, ‘I Love You!’ The passersby thought I was crazy but I thought that was romantic. I even went to the Supermarket to get personal items for her and the store assistant thought I was strange. But it doesn’t matter to me, I was just charging ahead like a lunatic.

{Shen} : Doesn’t it sound ridiculous now that you have thought about it?

Jerry : Like watching ‘Meteor Garden’.

{Shen} : Later why did the both of you separate?

Jerry : Once I had to go into the Army so we had to separate. We were just singing at the KTV then we sang till both of us cried in each other’s arms. The other times, I wasn’t sure. Why is it that I took such care and loved without any reservation but I was dumped each time? Perhaps I was too good to them. They felt that it has become a habit so when something bad happens . . . . . . Sigh! It’s really hard to explain. I heard an old song a few days back. It was Alex To’s ‘Fang Yi Ke Xin’ and I very touched.

{Shen} : Many setbacks in love?

Jerry : Many times.

~ Lin Zhi Ling and I . . . . . .

Jerry Yan has a habit when he goes out. He has to wear a hat and carry a backpack full of stuff like he was training his shoulder muscles. He said that he feels more secure this way.

The impression I had of him before was that he kept saying his usual words, ‘That’s right! That’s right!’ And after that, nothing was explained properly. So he has often been ‘blacklisted’ during interviews.

This time he unexpectedly mentions about the field of love and so I decided to step on the land mine of ‘Lin Zhi Ling’.

{Shen} : As for the next question, you need not feel that you have to be candid. You can choose not to answer. (His assistant immediately stood up, ‘What are you going to ask?’)

Jerry : Just ask, it’s ok.

{Shen} : Lin Zhi Ling and you . . . . . .

Jerry : It was like reading a novel whenever I read about ‘Jerry Yan and Lin Zhi Ling’. A new plot every day, in fact the media seems to know more about ‘what is Jerry Yan doing today’ than I do. I think you would have friends who are ladies too. I was a model before so naturally I would have a lot of good friends. Coincidentally it’s ‘Model Fever’ in Taiwan now and she has became popular so everyone talks about us.

{Shen} : You didn’t clarify?

Jerry : What’s the point in clarifying? The next day a new version will be on the news. I just want to protect my friends. It is too hard to fall in love with someone in the Entertainment Circle. Even if there is a chance to get to know each other, there won’t be time to develop anything.

{Shen} : What about you now?

Jerry : I long for a love as passionate as Dao Ming Si now. To have a space in time where I could totally be at ease; for that someone who would caress my head when I am down.’

~ Behind the smiles of ‘Shao Ye’


Jerry’s fans still call Jerry Yan, ‘Shao Ye’ like in ‘Meteor Garden’.

Having been with Jerry's fans, I pieced the fragments together into a picutre of ‘Shao Ye’ behind the smiles.

Every shot in the commercial is a smile. Initially when the camera is on him, he will automatically smiles flashing his pearlie whites. After a few hours, his muscles stiffened. At the end of the day, his mouth seems locked in position. Even when he smiles, he isn’t sure what is he smiling about.

He said that he is not a smiley type. In fact when he first entered the Entertainment Circle, he does not know how to socialize at all. ‘If I don’t need to meet people everyday, I can be very sloppy in my dressing, with stubble and becoming very dispirited.’

He was smiling to another artiste once but got a cold shoulder in return. It was then that he understood, ‘If I am moody when I stand on stage, it will definitely hurt a lot of people.’

Before the event, Jerry Yan took time off to see the dentist. It was said that this dentist is Jackie Chan’s personal dentist and the most prestigious in Hong Kong.

The arrangements for a personal appointment was so detailed. Three A4 sized papers full of information was faxed and still the agent had questions. Kept pressing for details like ‘What time will the car come? What is the room temperature? Do we have to sit on the sofa or chair?’

~ Don’t Leave The Gifts Behind

Whenever he is out and about, his ‘know-it-all’ fans are familiar with his every move. He goes to Jordan for a shot, the ‘tour group’ trails there too. He was in First Class and a fan was right next to him. He disembarks and those at the Airport would spread the news.

This time round when he came to Hong Kong, the fans came on the earlier flight. They received news that he would come out from the ‘A64’ exit so they stayed put. Then another reported that it was changed to ‘B’ exit. So all of them turned tail and ran. But then some said that it was false information and returned to ‘A’ exit. Who knew he eventually came out from the ‘B’ exit. The fans ran 4X400 meters to and fro ‘A64’ and ‘B’ exits till they gave him their gifts. At every ‘operation’, track shoes are a must for Jerry fans.

Up till he left Hong Kong, I was with him for the interview. Before he left the Hotel, he asked his assistant, ‘Where are the gifts? Don’t forget to bring them along.'

Japanese Version Meteor Garden, Ratings open up Red Plate

Taiwan drama (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=263103#), Meteor Garden, edited from Japanese manga (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=263103#) ever created a wave in Asia with it's 4 characters in the show. Just before the Taiwan version fixed it's road, Japan's TV station has now released the Japanese version to compare with the Taiwanese version. After it was broadcast (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=263103#), ratings opens up red plate, the team and actors (http://www.tsinoy.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=263103#) were all very happy.

Last Friday, Japan broadcasted it's Japanese version of Meteor Garden. It was only the first episode but their ratings were at 18.3%. Before it's broadcast, the team and actors were under pressure. Firstly was because the media's comparison between the Taiwanese and Japnese version. On the otherhand, whether the show could hit ratings was another concern. Seeing such good results, everyone heaved a sigh of relieve.

In the Japanese version of Meteor Garden, the way F4 appeared left a deep impression on everyone. The scene which the female lead punched DaoMingSi caused discussion, it's also believe because of the good results of the first broadcast of the show. As the team specially got Song Dao Cai Cai Zi to act as DaoMingSi's sister to hit him hardly, it's predicted it will be broadcasted in the 3rd episode. Because of Song Dao Cai Cai Zi's acting in it, the ratings is believed to go higher.

As to which is the better version, afraid that it would have to wait for the Japanese version to hit the Taiwan market before audiences can review on their own.
